      Is there a comparable ball feel you can think of? Maybe semi-soft like a regular Q-star or a little firmer like a Get Sum? Thanks!

      I would say get some, cut red, and TaylorMade noodle all kind of have a similar feel

      Been trying to. I've even been testing two golf balls in a single day sometimes. It's been a grind but it's going to be worth it here in a couple weeks

    Before you change the 5 hybrid out for a 5 iron, I would highly suggest going with a higher lofted fairway wood. So easy to launch and control. A 7 wood or 9 wood would be my suggested woods to try depending on what distance you need to fill.

    • @stevenagy9441
      @stevenagy9441 7 днів тому +1

      Agree! Some sort of a non-iron to represent long clubs is definitely welcome data. Adding a long iron would be great, but since LOTS of average golfers don't/shouldn't really be hitting long irons, showing that bit of data for average golfers is a real plus.

      Absolutely. I think I'm just going to make a video for season 5 and let everyone vote on it. Get some good ideas and then go with something different

    Once again a well done video. Question: I've seen various testing that seemingly indicate that matte finished golf balls perform very poorly in wet or damp conditions. If my memory serves me correctly, the issue was lack or no spin on the ball when wet. Have you seen or heard this ...or tested for it? Love the channel as always Nick.

    • @davead6578
      @davead6578 7 днів тому +2

      You’re correct. The matte finish retains water on the surface. MyGolfSpy reported on this.

    • @GolfBallAddict

      Yes I've heard from many different publications of that being the case.

    I’m old enough to remember when Surlyn was the newest & greatest thing to hit golf and golf ball ( wound balls) ads actually boasted the product used Surlyn! Also, if you knew, you would use Surlyn balls on long holes that needed woods and balata on par 3 holes using irons! At least, that was the story, probably a golfing urban myth at the time

    • @GolfBallAddict
      @GolfBallAddict  3 дні тому +3

      Makes sense. Honestly a lot of it is just marketing mumbo gumbo. So many people are obsessed with urethane now. I have people who won't play a golf ball that hasn't made of urethane when in reality there are plenty of surylyn balls that do just great.

    Mr. Addict, in your expert extremely qualified opinion, what ball would you say is most comparable to the Chrome Tour in the midrange ($20-40) price category. if money was no issue i love the Chrome tour it is my ball all the way through and dont mind playing it when im at a nice 18, but when im playing home course playing some 9 holes or whatever for practice id like a plan B alternative. thank you for the advice

    • @GolfBallAddict
      @GolfBallAddict  3 дні тому +1

      Sorry for the delayed response here, there are two golf balls that might be worth your time. I just included them in my most recent upload of the best golf balls you never heard of.
      The Spalding SD tour and the Lazarus golf ball are both three piece firmer models that come in at $20 a dozen. Really great value for what you're getting and if you like that firmer feel it could be worth a shot

    • @GolfBallAddict
      @GolfBallAddict  3 дні тому +1

      That's tough. I would say it's very close. I definitely am more intrigued and the Jack version due to its alignment aid. I would play either but I would say there is a slight advantage to seed

  • @jonnyappleseed5305
    @jonnyappleseed5305 7 днів тому +1

    Seems like this company has really planted a seed in your recommendations list!
    I also want to echo another comment i read. I would also be more interested in a higher lofted wood instead of a 5 iron. I'd love a 5 or 7 wood. I'd even be down for a 3 wood. When i think beginner to average golfer, i think package set of clubs. That's where all my golfing friends and i started, and pretty much every package set comes with a 3 wood. Nowhere near as many come with a 5 iron.

    • @GolfBallAddict
      @GolfBallAddict  3 дні тому +2

      Really good feedback. I appreciate it. I've actually thought about this over the last couple days and I think what I'm going to do is once the season is over I'm just going to let everyone vote on it. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts about what club they would like to put in that place of the five iron. If everyone wants to go a different route such as full wedge shots, maybe some pitching wedge, whatever the case may be. I'm down. You guys are the consumer and I am here to serve

    If you’re interested in distance, you should be interested i the golf ball finish. Matte-finish golf balls retain water because of that finish and you lose significant distance according to MGS.

  • @scottdean27
    @scottdean27 7 днів тому +1

    I feel like all the matte cover balls, except Callaways, have really great durability. Matte Maxfli’s, matte Oncores, matte Titleist Velocity, all seem to last sooo long. I like that because I lose a golf ball very infrequently and my two home courses only have “cart path” pads right next to the tee boxes so my shots don’t hit cart paths either. I hit the ball with enough speed, height, and spin that I don’t need to worry about not having enough backspin, and my courses do a very good job of keeping the courses and greens watered sufficiently. What golf balls do other commentators find to be exceptionally durable?

    • @GolfBallAddict
      @GolfBallAddict  3 дні тому +1

      You're not wrong. Some of the best durability I've ever seen on golf balls is from the Matt versions. So I 100% agree with that statement. The Matt versions do not hold up in water though. So if there's any dew on the ground or if it's raining good luck. However if it's a nice dry day and you play in the afternoon, you can bang those things against car pass and trees and whatever you like and they still be in prime condition

  • @davead6578
    @davead6578 7 днів тому +1

    If you’re interested in distance, you should be interested in the golf ball finish. Matte-finish golf balls retain water because of that finish and you lose significant distance according to MGS. Rain, dew, water hazards are poison because of that finish.

    • @scottdean27
      @scottdean27 7 днів тому +1

      I know mygolfspy says all the time that matte golf balls spin less, especially when wet, but I have never seen them say the matte ball or wet matte ball goes shorter. I believe it would depend on the golfer. If the golfer doesn’t generate enough ball speed and ball spin and height, then less spin would likely lead to shorter carry distances, but perhaps more roll out. For golfers that generate an average or above ball speed, enough or more than enough spin, and enough height, a lower spinning matte (or wet matte) golf ball would likely actually carry a little further and also roll out a more (like a “flyer” golf shot). If the golfer doesn’t have flagsticks tucked behind bunkers and/or has wide openings at the front of the greens, less spin probably won’t hurt the “second” golfer scenario, except on short sided chips or pitches when the ball is wet from dew or rain.

    Would really like to try SEED golf balls, but even with a 10 % discount , the cost to buy 1 dozen Country Mile balls is almost SIXTY dollars Canadian. Some day will have to get a friend who is travelling in England to bring me back some, but when I can get Vice for HALF that price, I just cant justify it 😖 Pity.

    • @GolfBallAddict

    Notwithstanding how good the factories make their balls for so-called brands like Seed, which is the same one where Vice makes balls btw but not being honest with their customers is really a turn off. A 355 dimple pattern? BS Ridiculous. Consumers need to sue these types of brands for false advertisement.

    • @GolfBallAddict
      @GolfBallAddict  3 дні тому +1
