really glad I found this. GQIS gives me post concussion headaches lol but I really want terrain maps so I appreciate it!

Hello Hatari, Can you please tell me if there is a way to put the geological strata on this cross section, because what you showed is a topography line, but does not have any geological information. Thank you.

I'm still waiting for this to come on qgis

How can you include geological data in the cross section? You only doing topo profile section.

By creating for each geological layer a tif file. Usually made with borehole data by filtering all borehole with the same geological layer i.e. cretaceous... the mark them in the attribute table, then click on the shp file go to safe selected features only and store them as the new layer as a shp point file. Then use the points and use TIN to create the Tif. So u get all the crossection lines from each layer. The hatch has to be added manually either by using cad or something else... I think qgis can't do this yet

Pls let me know if there is a tool to extract river polygon (along the shoreline) from DEM in qgis?

That's easy. Use ur dgm file the tif file woth xy an hight value. Then just filter min and max level in which the river is. Then only the river an dthings that are the same hight show up. Then mark them and safe them as a new shape file. Now just delete the contour lines that don't belong to the river and done.

    Hi!
This tutorial is excellent. However, I have a contour file (dxf or shp format), but can't use this terrain profile plugin to create cross-sections from contours. Every time I click terrain profile button it asks to select at least one raster layer.
Do you know if there's a way to create cross-sections from contour maps (.shp or .dxf file)?

+Umair Asghar You have to create a DEM or rasterr file

+Hatari Water do I have to interpolate the surface b/w the contour lines? any specific recommendations for interpolation?

+Umair Asghar Convert from lines to vertices, and then use spline, idw or krigging
