      if it was already finished and bug-free with all the features working no support is needed at that time I would happily publish it for everyone for free. The support is needed now to continue the development because it is not a simple tool

    hello!!! great work. I've got some questions.
    First of all if you' know when the plugin will be available in plugins manager and if there will be some kind of ad at the moment of the release.
    Then if will be available an option to calculate the volumes of different geological units.
    thx and have a nice day

    • @MiningGeologist

      The plugin will be available if it gets enough support ( there is not enough support so far), you can the roadmap on the website to check the progress , and yes you will be able to calculate volumes for sure

    Looking good so far. How long until faults are part of the model?

    • @MiningGeologist
      @MiningGeologist  Рік тому +1

      Definitely, faults need to be part of the tool, this is just a proof of concept it is not even 20% of what's going to be in the final version!

  •  Рік тому

    Impressive. Congratulations and much encouragement on the work that remains.
    Lots of questions from the video you shared.
    What type of interpolation does the add-in use? Will it be possible to modify it? (Kriging, IDW, TIN, other ways?)
    What kind of export will the generated models allow (Tif, IFC, DXF, etc)?
    There was another geological modeling attempt some time ago that seems to have fallen by the wayside: Albion (From Oslandia). Did you know about this project; it might be interesting to see why it did not conclude.
    (Etc.)

    • @MiningGeologist
      @MiningGeologist  Рік тому

      Thank you for your comment, @César. Your questions are quite insightful, and I'll do my best to provide detailed answers:
      Our add-in currently utilizes a Radial Basis Function (RBF) for generating implicit surfaces. Although we are exploring the possibility of adding more options to control the RBF, we may not incorporate more than one algorithm for building surfaces. This is to ensure the plugin remains user-friendly for non-specialists. However, various interpolation methods, including Ordinary Kriging (OK), Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW), and Nearest Neighbors (NN), will be implemented for grade estimation. Being an open-source project, the flexibility to modify or enhance the source code will always be accessible to all users.
      As for the export formats, the plugin will support common image extensions (JPG, PNG, TIF, etc.) for 2D data like section images. For 3D data, we are committed to providing support for both DXF and OBJ formats. The DXF will cater to 2.5D surfaces and 3D meshes, while OBJ will be ideal for 3D manifold solids. The ubiquity of these formats in both mining and non-mining packages ensures users can easily import the exported 3D files/drawings into different software.
      In terms of the Albion project from Oslandia, I'm aware of its existence, but I can't provide a comprehensive reason for the halt in its development. Based on my understanding (though I can't verify this entirely), Albion was fully integrated with QGIS, meaning that the QGIS 3D viewers and 2D canvas were used for digitization and interpretation. Albion, to the best of my knowledge, used digitized information in sections to create triangulated surfaces, functioning more like an explicit tool. However, these observations are based solely on my limited familiarity with the software and may not be completely accurate. Our Implicit Modeller, in contrast, operates more like an external software, executing all computations and manipulations through external scripts, including 3D visualization. Even though it exists as a plugin within QGIS, it interacts directly with QGIS inputs, such as layers and databases.
      I hope this clarifies your queries and I am open to more discussions regarding the plugin.
