- The difference between first and second place in the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event is $4,000,000. Dario Sammartino has been engaged in a grueling heads up battle against Hossein Ensan for hours. Putting his tournament life on the line, he makes a sharp play with pocket kings in a bid for the world championship, but will it be enough?

Idiotic turn shove. If Dario stopped and looked for just a second, he would see that Ensan has his hand written on his shirt
Derek Y well played
really the mistake was just trying to bluff a fish
This is great
Nice comment, Derek Y! I guess We can consider it the greatest tell of all times. :)
He has to call. A fish would rather fold the KK there.
WILL HE GET THERE??? ... he didn't... k bye
Pierre Morin lol it was a disappointment
It's kind of a spoiler when you say it's the last hand. The bigger stack must win in that instance.
@@HopyHop1 Unless ...

Ensan tanked almost as long as he did in the K9 hand against Gates. You could tell the raise really put him in an agonizing spot.
Check those glasses for x-ray vision
Only a patented Hellmuth call with the chip shove is quicker, lol
Pzda yumaa
DP: "Will he get there?"
Me: (*reads title that says final hand of main event...*)
Me: "hmmmmmm"
Yes the stacks weren't even so the title spoiled it for us all thinking part of Doug's followers (which is maybe 10% ?). By the way, this old way of finishing the main event right now in July is much better than the "November Nine" it was in fact one of the biggest mistakes in WSOP ever. Maybe it helped to get some more hype to event and watchers but anyways, good decision to go back to normal tournament style where you don't go for a pause for months.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Not to mention way to much yap coming from his mouth. Could get the same thing from a 3 min video.
Bad feeling this will be the last Polker Hands for a while.
No way bro. Nicky Ps MTT course just came out. Doug been churning and burning these outs with record number of views. Hell, you can still get Doug’s “how to crush heads up in 2011” for a dime piece.
Maria Ho not playing WSOPE this year?

Indeed with this whole Coronavirus thing going on.
Damn. Predicted the future my guy.
Honey, he snap called with pocket kings!

The idiot called with kings honey.. Can you believe that? I cant Fn believe he called with kings... Unbelievable!

Doug I'm so happy you're doing these. Thanks for the best informative/educational poker vids on UA-cam.
relax bro
Thank you for all the recent poker hands!! It’s been awesome having so many lately. Hopefully you keep up with them
Doug, at the minimum, you gotta buy Jamie dinner...she worked in, not one, but TWO Upswing plugs during last nights ESPN broadcast.
JK needs to stay on that booth lineup for next year. Hope she makes it farther next time though.
“Let’s see if he got there”
“He didn’t” 😂😂😂
Doug, I swear. With your sense of humor, I don't think there's many if any other poker players I would have more fun with at the table or having a drink. That last video ... Don't fold Queens had me laughing softly for over 24 hours on and off. Good show indeed
and the hand with k9ss when he said "a min raise, a move that you would not see so much, because is bad play" LMAOOOOOOOOO
Yikes
Given what I’ve seen of the final table I guess Ensan calling wasn’t really a surprise. He seemed a better person to bet against when you actually had something rather than try to semi bluff
He was a very aggressive player throughout the tournament, nothing wrong with going all in with all that equity. Ensan could have had AJo or anything.
@@willowandluka5302 Ensan most prolly would almost never ever have had AJ in that situation, the way he played that hand. Not in this life most prolly in a wsop main event heads up. Not once. Most prolly. The dream about that so called "equity" stays just a dream of 10 million dollar and the Braclet. Just a equity dream. Not much worse in reality.
@@willowandluka5302 AJo really?
Ensan did everything right, the other guy played the hand like a total retard. I think the reverse implied odds make the turn (facing the third consecutive bet that says monster) a clear fold. I think Ensan's snap call tells you that this was a really bad play.
@@herzwatithink9289 If you watched the entire final table though, Ensan was bluffing a lot. So he could easily have air here. Against a tighter player I could see folding but not against him when you can probably induce a fold a large percentage of the time.
I think Ensan pretty much broadcast his hand strength all night. Doug you nailed it when you commented on his post flop bet of 15 million. Disappointing that you would even consider shoving once you miss the turn. Ensans turn bet was also strong.
We at home can see all the cards and know how straightforward Ensans betting was. But I have to give props as he milked every possible chip from every winning hand. Some say that's what makes a pro a pro.
All BS aside, I did appreciate the WSOP content Doug, well done.
Guys my UA-cam is bugged. 4x uploads in like 2 days. Anyone else?

Dude, same! I would of reported it to UA-cam for an obvious malfunction if I didn't happen to love it so much.

Doug's hand breakdowns are the best. No stuttering, barely any jump frames, a hint of comedy and valuable poker theory to study. Doug, really appreciate it man!
....Because if you call 17, you call 22
Fucking Jack Effel I swear. This guy could fuck up a wet dream.
Teo where are you? Do you still vlog? Haven't seen you at Niagara in a while.
Imraan Bulbulia hey Imaraan, yes it’s been a while since I’ve been at the Falls. I have dropped my live volume considerably and transitioned back into playing online MTTs on certain weekends. Just trying to balance family time! It’s easier playing poker from the desktop Lolol. Although as the online series has slowed down on PS I might hit up Rama from time to time.
I’m looking forward to the Niagara series in October. I think I’ll be able to hop into that and play. The WSOP got me pumped 😎.
How’s your poker grind? Hope all is well
Too soon
First of all, Dario should be embarrassed on that hand you are referencing (not the hand in this video) where the shove was miscounted. WHY?
1. He is a tournament player and this is a rule from ALL tournaments (and cash games for that matter) that it is the PLAYER'S duty, NOT the dealer, to KNOW how many chips you are calling.
2. I'm sure he DID know the rule, but:
3. He did NOT complain until AFTER the flop came and he missed his 10.
4. Then he whines, full well knowing the rule, but AFTER waiting to see if he hits his set.
I have no respect for that, and LESS respect if he did NOT know the rule. If you want to be 'world class' at a game, the least you can do is know the rules of what you are playing.
Now, on to Jack. As I said, this is a WELL KNOWN rule by any poker player of any quality. So Jack's actual DECISION *WAS* easy.
Jack went ON to say "It could have been 30 million, and if the dealer says 3 million and you call, it is STILL a call" which AGAIN is correct. So, now we have some CONTEXT for his unfortunately misunderstood comment of 'You call 17, you call 22' which *I* feel he meant the same thing as, you call 3 you call 30.
I don't believe for a second that he was saying "Any player that would call 17 M would call 22M in &&ANY&& situation " which is the way the situation has been twisted. He *IS* saying, "You said 'call' and no matter WHAT the actual amount of chips is, or what the dealer announced, you have called it."
Give the guy credit to know the difference.
Doug - just wanted to drop a note as I never comment on videos but your channel does a great job of mixing in entertainment/humor as well as informing players what to do during each spot in a band making it very “balanced” haha! Keep up the videos man really enjoy watching each and everyone.
The theme of the last few videos: “He made the right play! Did it end up working out? No. Cya!” Hahahah
I hate the small chip stacks. I want chip mountains back.
Yessss!!!!
On behalf of dealers everywhere. We are against that. Apart from being visually appealing it’s a headache verifying stacks especially if it’s close and wastes clock time where actual poker can be played.
It’s also much easier to see how much your opponents have.
wicked3000 visually it looks cool but it’s a nightmare to count stack sizes.
Same! That and the non stable camera shots. I liked the zoom in moving cameras lol
I agree from the dealer's perspective (and for sake of game speed) that you need bigger chips, smaller numbers of chips. Yeah for TV purposes it looks cool, but when a standard 3bet requires multiple stacks of chips, there's too many small chips in play. Plus, those new 5mil chips are just so damn pretty to look at.
What a crazy year in the main! Thanks for the video Doug.
Doug you've really improved your game when it comes to ending the vids, love it
Normally I would love a shove here, but against Ensan, I think its a call. He's been hero calling for the entire final table, most famous one was his river check raise call vs Gates with top pair. He has the chip lead and has the reputation of calling light here. so I'm not a fan of the shove. Regardless, kudos for Sammartino for making it to 2nd place ans shoving with a draw. GG
Hint, final hand... 2:1 chip lead. Not much thinking to guess who got busted.
To be fair, the 2:1 chip lead is mostly irrelevant - only that one player was actually ahead. If it's a final hand and one player is ahead, that player is winning.
@@jaxsonbateman ?????????????????????
@@jaxsonbateman The ONLY Thing that matters is the chip lead lol. If Ensan is in the chip lead and we know this is the last hand, then Dario has to bust.

Thanks for the no-spoilers videos, appreciated
every hand is someone bluffing the guy who has shown he won't fold a pair
Haha. Ain't that the truth. Haha
Which makes those people the real donks and not the person who calls them off...^^
Final table too stressful? Try Kimo Sabe Mezcal and get hammered like the pros. “Kimo Sabe Mezcal: If you’re seeing double, it’s probably just Omaha.”
Good advertisement !! Lmao
Great to see you back, Doug. Love your breakdowns. Please keep it up.
That's funny. "Will he get there?... he didn't." Really like how you emphasize the theoretical/statistical side of poker. 2 thumbs up!
This video is so right and makes a great point. The next few times that Dario is playing heads up for $4 million and goes all in on the turn with a strong hand, his opponent will have to call since his range is so balanced.
Tip of the day for any tournament final table...never go bust on a draw! There will always be another hand.
Now that's the smartest advice on this thread....should have folded preflop...chasing straights and flushes will send you to the buses, I use to deal poker on a river boat and this old guy that would often take a bus to the casino would always say that at the poker table when a player would miss his flush or straight...lol
By the looks of those pants, Ensan was going clam digging right after the tournament was over
Doug, I play a lot of morning daily tournaments with mostly recreational players. If there was some way to get video of the plays these guys make with your commentary, we would all have a good laugh!
So sick to finally see a top pro heads up for the title, Sammartino is the man
The endings to these videos lately have been classic.
Last year final hand - John Cynn nit-rolling with 3 Kings. This year final hand - Ensan snap-calling with 2 Kings.
Sammartino: *foooooollld* Ensan snaps.
Sammartino: god dammit
Glad Dario lost this after the whole 1010 vs QQ situation
Great vlog, loved the ending
jennifer tilly could’ve gotten away there, she always knows when you have kings
Why do you need to be balanced if you only play a few hundred hands heads-up?
Thanks for the video, Doug. Well done. I know Ensan snapped Dario off, but I would have liked to hear your analysis of what Ensan should have been thinking after the Dario check raise on the turn.
Given the dynamics of the heads up match I think it’s a check fold or a check call. The play was very straightforward pretty much all night. Many hands were going to showdown and the best hand was winning an overwhelming majority of times. I understand Doug is looking at these hands in theory but I just think the check shove gets a fold maybe 1 or 2 times out of 10 if you take table dynamics into play. Think the right play was to call and fold the river imho.
I agree with you. Going all in on the river is only folding a few hands that are winning. Maybe middle and bottom pair.
Don't they show flags next to the players name anymore?
Man, Sammartino knows how to look the part of 2nd place
Rule # 1: Don't bluff calling stations...
If there was one thing that Ensan did well on the FT it was his bet sizing. Made a few mistakes with small, oop river bets, but his bet/bluff sizes were excellent.
That was very hard final table and very good poker, Ensen from what I saw here and on the TV play really good, and I like it that when he decided what to do on the turn he already knew what is going to do on the river without wasting time (Hi Kassuff).
Ensan ran hot but he really didn’t make any mistakes. TBH tho, I hated his snap against Gary. Gary will have him crushed so often given his line
also quite a recognizable and established rail for a WSOP ME winner
Ensan told a good story from preflop all the way to the river, thus Dario should have called 35 M and if he missed then he would have left with 22 bb and and be able to continue the battle.
Not convinced we need to have bluffs in our range vs a station this big unless his betting the turn with air a ton, which maybe he is, idk.
Yeah good point. Vs better players who will bet/fold Tx and have more J8/QJ type combos I prefer the jam. But vs this guy we can probably lower the variance and either call/fold (folding seems insane but it's not really we have no implied odds on a 7 and only have a shitty FD with 8 high.)
If hes prepared to snap KK here then we can just wait to make a strong hand before jamming and take lower variance lines as bluffs etc. Such as high frequency delayed c betting vs 2 checks from OOP and small x raises vs his smaller c bets (which seem to be weaker hands.)
@@Demondoink1 Exactly. Ensan has a super tight range here, and is not capable of folding a big hand, which he always has here. Dario basically tried to get a fish to fold a monster, which just doesn't work. Ensan may fold better flush draws in this spot, but that is not enough hands to make this bluff profitable. I would argue a fold preflop as you are going to have a tough time realizing equity against a super tight range (Ensan was only taking this opening size with big hands as we have seen throughout the match, no doubt Dario was informed of this by his rail). Ensan's play had been very exploitable thus far, as we have seen Dario bluff raise the small turn size more than once and get it through. Imho, fold pre and keep exploiting post flop. "Getting a good price to defend" is not a good reason. MDF does not apply here, since Ensan is playing so far from optimal. Super glad he won!
@@fourlokouva calling ensan a fish when he had 2.1m on his Hendon mob before the main event lol
@@minimon3000 He's a calling station for sure, and also has had to be warned repeatedly and berated about angle-shooting other players in other tournaments so he's not really a good player or good guy.

What isnt in this video is the Flopped Straight on the last hand where Dario didnt go all in when it seemed like the best option
Always these aggressive guys winning the main. :)
Did anyone else notice how Ensan asked Dario how much he had left on the turn after getting called? This was the first time he’s done it in the hu match. That plus the big cbet as opposed to his normal 1/3, I’d say his hand looks pretty strong and he’s uninterested in folding.
Interesting take... I like it.
Exactlly, there was no fold equity at all.
If the cards had been played face up I think he still would have made the same move.
I don't understand how he can't know HU how many chips are on the table? He knows how many he has.. and what they've bet so far in that hand and this guy can't keep track of how many chips his opponent has left lol
I keep forgetting to buy the upswing lab with all this free content.
Dude stahp
I can't believe you managed to stretch this to an 11 minute video..
3:35 Doug Polk has been watching Negraunu Masterclass
Nice hand. I like how both players played. Sammartino has 27.3% equity OTT: The straight comes in 6.8% of the time OTR and the flush comes in 20.5% That leaves Ensan's overpair good the remaining 72.7% of the time. It's always tough to run into kings here, but I really like Sammartino's shove.
The shove is Dumb, keep chasing..calling preflop for 7M was DUMB.
So funny the snap call here from Ensahn & then the total slow roll from Cynn last year in the final hand w/ KJ on KK5.
Just proves that last year was a mega slow roll.
Just goes to show you tight is right. Won EPT with aces and now WSOP main with kings. EASY GAME!! haha
Love your hand and play analysis, I learn something ever time. Thank you.
Almost folded... Hahaha love Doug's comments
I find this is much more interesting with the sound off.
Ouch, 12 out's & it hits a brick... This time next year keep a seat warm for me on that final table lol...
La sfortuna di Dario è stata aver trovato delle board equity in una mano loose e terribilmente folle.
Godamn it that was tense... I was so hoping for Dario to get a spade.... And carry this on. Shit I love poker
The end...he didn't 🤣🤣🤣🤣
4:50 As an amatuer myself I really wonder, how people can ask in Heads-Up how many chips the opponent has. I mean you have to know your stack size and the number of chips available.. so just calculate the difference. I mean you could ask for a tell of some kind, but it does not seem like that here..
I'm not a "live reads" guy (though I do mostly play live), but Dario really looked like he was bluffing here....ok, let the roasting begin
I thought that the ANTE goes when its heads up or am I wrong about this
He didn’t do his little all in hand signal when he usually has it. Snap call.
Where can I watch this without commentary?
@9:30 I can understand the call, there are so many hands that beat you?
“Video Doug” makes sure not to say it was final hand to influence the analysis. “Title Doug” says “Whoops..lol...spoiler.”
Was interesting that Ensan did a couple of things differently in this hand than any other. First was he made it 11 million, when the standard opening from both players was small, at 1/3 they were both making it 7 million every time, and at 2/4 they were both making it 9 million. The second (and trust me I'm an internet player and might not pick up on this) was that on the turn he asked Dario for the first time in the whole match how many chips he had on the turn. Obviously this could mean a number of things, but at the very minimum it probably suggests he is more willing than normal to put chips in the pot. Feel like these differences would make me less inclined to jam turn than I almost ever would be given our hand strength and stack sizes.
Do you have any thoughts on all these people on Twitter (Kessler comes to mind) that think the BBA should be reduced for short handed play?
And THAT is as close as he ever got to winning the Main Event, even though he wasted ten grand every year for the rest of his life trying, and only cashed once, a decade later. Following Hellmuth's footsteps.
Ensan...the guy had Kings written all over him....
This is obviously a lot higher level than I have ever come close to playing at but I think the fact Dario took a long time to shove made it look like he was on a good draw rather than a set or made straight ... if when he checked he was thinking he may reraise all in to a bet I reckon if he did it instaneously (ie the all in after the bet from ensan) that would have looked stronger...
I’ve noticed that often people who reraise jam all in instaneously often have the nuts or a really good hand....but that’s as I said a much lower level
