- Jacob & Stasia Larison - We drive to the south side of Death Valley and camp on "The Slabs" on BLM. The views of Funeral Mountains Wilderness area and Pyramid Peak are incredible. We absolutely loved this BLM site, as it’s so remote and not a lot of traffic coming through. Very peaceful and we will be back! We drove into Death Valley National Park and explored the colorful landscape and lowest point in the US (-282ft) elevation)!

The area you are camped at is the site of the Valley Crest mobile home park, also referred to as “3000 foot”, which was one of two company owned sites for employees of American Borate Company, working at the Billie Mine, to live at. I lived there during the summer of 1982 when I worked at the mine as a mining engineering intern. My trailer was right across from the swimming pool, which is now filled with dirt. My wife and I stopped there about 5 years ago, with a rental car, when we visited the national. I’d like to come back some day with out camper, and boondock on the slab that was next to my old trailer where I lived. Each trailer had a full shed awning over the slab.
@section3253, thank you for sharing some history on the area. I always wondered what the mobile park served, for park staff or mining operations. The views are incredible, we really enjoyed our stay here.

@@larisonlifestyle yes I saw the guy that passed away too , we were driving by and saw him hiking and he looked fine, he was like less than half a mile from his car , and later heard he passed away when he got to his car , it was the day it was 131 out, yes we live in Pahrump NV
