Breaking III allows lower tiers of pickaxes to drop higher tier blocks when broken. For example, a breaking III iron pickaxe could be used to get Obsidian

i think there should be a way to dye elytra like leather armour, so you can really personalize yourself. also tools could also be trimmed, but it may not be as noticeable because its an item you won't be holding at all times, unlike armour where you only take it off so you can put other armour on/repair to put it back on
edit: i forgot about capes, but not everyone has rare events they attended, or optifine and money to get one. i think those capes should be special, and dyed elytra could be a stand-in that is less special but still cool

no please, inventory management would be hell. the way i discard excess wood of a different type is by crafting them into sticks because i 100% will use them later for tools or villagers or what not
A nice way yo get different color ladders would be to use the unused 'middle top' and 'middle bottom' of the bench with the appropriate wood type.
So you have the normal 'H' pattern, but the 2 spaces are oak or mangrove, est. Much like how fences and fence gates work for the different types
