1:00 I think mushrooms were the first foods to be added into the game very early on, interestingly there red mushrooms depleted health upon eating them rather than healing, so it is kind of weird that they got used for stew
There are a few mushrooms out there that can make you sick if eaten raw, but are safe to eat after being cooked, so maybe the red mushroom in Minecraft is one of those. ...Or Notch just didn't think that hard about it.
It's actually pretty easy to remove the toxins from fly agaric, and they are regularly used in cooking in some parts of the world. I guess we can just assume that Steve learned about parboiling them before eating them (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria#Culinary_use )
Besides; there are mushroom irl that are edible (obviously) and minecraft's mushrooms aren't really named and made to be anything specific (like chocolate cookies to parrots for example).
Besides, you can't eat mushrooms raw in this game and the fact that you can't make stew from nether shrooms says something.
It would actually be pretty cool if they harmed you when eaten raw but were fine in the stew

I play on a survival server where we have disabled elytras, it is actually so much more fun and more interesting. Also tall and angled builds are so much more impressive

I find it funny to imagine they actually _backported_ the Elytra to an older version to do this.
resourcepack + lighting engine changes(in newer version, but extremely unlikely), or just backport the elytra.
