  • Filmed this house around 4 or 5 years ago and decided too return and see if it was torn down or maybe even luckily restored and saved. Beautiful old architecture and a stone on top of the house listing it as being built in 1861. Incredible old house with some neat old fireplaces and staircase, plus a old fashioned door bell from the early 20th century. Really glad I checked out the attic this time as well!
    Thanks for watching!
Here’s my video I posted in 2017 of my old video on this house. Not too much has changed besides a massive bee hive!

Once the foundation of a house is gone, it usually costs too much to fix it. Looks like someone tried, and failed to repair the foundation, and failed. Yes, it's sad

While it is a shame that these old structures go into disrepair, there could be many reasons why they are left in this conditon. The costs of repairs, possibly taxes, and possibly some properties fall into a probate situation. A real shame, however it is nice to have these historic places documented before the possibility that the structure is demolished. Hopefully it could be restored with any possible probability.

I think the same thing. You have to have the money to invest in restoring this beautiful home. I just told my husband, if I were rich, I would have a beautiful home like this restored to all it's glory. I would just LOVE it! All of these new places have no character and craftsmanship! Thankyou Kappy and Ruby. I love your videos.

I live close to this house and the brick house in the previous vlog. This house was actually moved from just down the road in order to save it from being demolished. The owner’s intention was to restore it. I’m not sure as to why it has not been restored. The basement isn’t original to the house. The original basement could not be moved since it was below ground. Thank you for giving us a peek inside the house. I’ve always wondered what it looked.

Kappy, PLEASE consider providing an anonymous tip to the local County Ag Extension about the honeybees. It’s possible a farmer lost a hive, or a beekeeper wants to create a new hive. Either way, with the loss of so many bees due to indiscriminate pesticide use, this very viable hive and queen needs to be harvested. Someone will be very happy to take charge of them and put them to work helping local crops!

Someone needs to save this beauty while they still can. Get those windows sealed up to keep the rain out. I can’t believe the inside’s not covered in mold and been covered in graffiti. Yikes on the bee nest! 😱😱😱
The big tank in the attic was probably their water system. Many large antebellum homes had tanks in the attics which were set up to catch rainwater. This provided indoor water to the home.

Somebody's mother (s) stood at that kitchen sink and washed the family dishes, and what a view she must have had! From the 12 pane windows, to the elaborate woodwork throughout the entire house I'm in love! It looks like somebody had high hopes of remodeling/restoring this house, but the cement and glass blocks sure mar the grandeur of this once spectacular home. Thanks Kappy & Ruby.

  • @anncrow3340

The faux marble look was what middle class people used, since most marble was imported, and expensive, and the date of the house shows it was started at the beginning of the civil war, when imports were even more restricted. If you had checked, you'd most likely find that faux marble fireplace surround was wood. They also faux painted wood, to make pine, or a cheaper wood look more expensive. Thanks for showing the attic, it was the only space not remodeled. Did you notice the metal stars on the outside? They were attached to a rod, that ran the length of the house, to keep the brick walls stabilized. Another great video, and hi Ruby!

    • @chrissytaylor5690
      @chrissytaylor5690 2 роки тому

Yes I've seen those faux-marble painted mantles in a lot of antebellum homes. A lot of times the painter would sign his name somewhere discreetly near the bottom. This is stuff that we'll never see again if it's not saved. To think that place was built right before the war and survived it and the owner didn't go broke in the years following like so many others in the South did. Sadly, that was the downfall of many of these pre-war homes.

The paneling in that first bedroom upstairs was the same paneling we put in our son's room back around 1990. Not a fan of their "remodeling" efforts. It must have been a beautiful house years ago. Beautiful farmland. I wish we knew the history of the house and why it was abandoned. The basement is definitely new. You can even see where they joined the new brickwork to the old. A lot of interesting things in that house. Enjoyed the visit.

If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will let me know. What a surprise that it really hadn't changed that much. Obviously not accessible to the tagging terrorists, which is great. if i bought one of these old homes i would completely modernise it. current trends and colours whilst keeping some of the original character. fan of the high ceilings and how solidly built they are.

Hi, you two! I'd like to see the overpriced, cookie cutter houses they build today-and tear out woods for- last as long as this! Thanks for a great tour! 👣

It is a shame! The brick house across the street from it was just torn down recently and I’m afraid that will probably be the same fate as this house! Just glad I went back and did a better video on it! Thanks for watching!

Hey there Kapps! How neat to revisit this home and compare it to how it was several years ago.
You know, that beehive reminds me of the days that I used to spend at my grandma's house growing up. Her husband, my grandfather, was actually a beekeeper and harvested all of their honey fresh from the hive, just as nature intended! He was always careful to use that old smokey stuff to calm the bees before collecting the honey. Well one day, come to find out, Grandma had accidentally poured the wrong fuel into Grandpa's bee smoker and the thing caught fire! He blew hot flames onto the hive, which greatly agitated the bees and caused them to go into attack mode.
When I looked outside, I saw poor Grandpa running around with the flaming bee smoker, with a cloud of angry bees following behind! By the time he got inside to safety he was swollen up like a puffer fish on the defensive!
Anyway, have a good one and thanks for the great video!

Love it. I hate seeing these houses torn down. But I suppose it is much cheaper to build new than try to undo all the damage time and elements have done. Thanks Kappy ✌️❤️😁

That door bell is awesome I just looked it up and they do sell them pretty reasonably priced vintage. I think I would rather have that than people pounding on my door. I have one window in my 1949 house like the one Ruby was taking a picture of only the upper half but I love it and wish all my windows were like that one. Anna In Ohio

This reminds me a lot of our house.I grew up in it and now my husband and I own it along with about 17 acres. It was built by the first banker of my home town. Unfortunately mom and dad remodeled in the 70s but still has the old charm. All original doors AND the porcelain white door knobs! I adore anything old. I like to think of the stories things hold. Love your videos! Tell Ruby hi. You two make such a cute couple! ...... Lisa 😊

Hi Kappy and Ruby!! It is sad that this house is being left to rot, it is absolutely gorgeous, and I cannot believe they are letting this one rot! If I had the money, I would redo it!! It definitely is a lovely place Kappy, thank you and Ruby for going back to it! Now that's one BIG bee's nest!! Wow! Don't think I've ever seen one that big before!! Tell Ruby not to run when the camera is on her, we don't mind seeing her!! She's your helper!! =) Nice work Kappy and Ruby! Thanks for sharing your explore and make sure you guys stay safe out there!! Peace, Kim ~

I bet that big wooden tub in the attic was a cistern. That supplied water for the house. Probably filled from a spot on the roof that they could shut off so it wouldn't over fill during heavy rains. Would also give some water pressure for the house in the old days.
