Hi Everyone! This was a highly requested video and I apologize for being behind on my videos (was not feeling well & was super busy last week) - but it's HERE!! Soft Gamines & what to wear if you have this body type. And a BIG THANK YOU to all my subscribers!! I hit 1k last week and I wanted to thank you all for being here ❤. I hope you enjoy the video 🥰!
What I recognize is thatI like the higher, rounded necklines and tapered sweaters. I recognize these look best on me. Going to watch this video again! It’s been such a struggle. Never would have typed myself as a gamine, but I think I might be.
This is the best video I've seen on this, so extremely helpful. I think you have confirmed i am a soft gamine! I was stuck between soft classic, soft gamine, and theatrical romantic, but I'm comfident I'm soft gamine now because my shoulders are slightly sharp
thank you, this video was so helpful in determining my type between soft gamine and theatrical romantic! in particular, your points about soft edge details, rounded details, and tapering - those are things i’ve noticed suit me, and it made so much sense when you explained why they work well for the SG type! in fact, one of my favorite button-down shirts has both slightly puffed shoulders and wrist tapering lol… now i totally get why that seems more flattering on its own than say a classic crisp button-down, which can feel a bit too angular on me. also probably why i gravitate towards looks that really juxtapose what in my mind i classified as “masculine” & “feminine” or “soft” & “hard” - like wearing a more flowy dress with a leather jacket or blazer, as opposed to like a dress with a cardigan which feels too “soft” for me… almost makes me look kind of wishy washy or bland, if that makes sense?
ive been wondering for a few years, since i discovered kibbe, if im soft gamine. im 5'2" and def look petite so that narrowed it down from the beginning. other than that, i havent given it much thought again until recently. welp. this video confirms it. i have dressed like this completely on my own through trail and error for years now. always high waisted bottoms, shorter slightly soft draped skirts, rounded details, subtle peplum hems, interesting collar details, lantern sleeves, contrast, tapering at ankles and wrists. all of it. lol
Omg ! Yes I often say I am stumpy But I wouldn't want nobody else to say that to me lol 😆 compact ..broad shoulders .. And soon to be 48 and yet still shopping in the teen sections😩 lol just going through these videos trying to RE discover me ! And gaining a new Perspective on self love now that I can have a name that fits my specific body type ..I felt lost for so many years trying to figure out what works best for me ! Now I know ..thank you for this ... What a,sweet early bday present!
@myleneamelie thank you kinda funny I was traveling on the subway today trying to figure out each woman body type lol I still get confused between the classics 🤣 but I definitely know A "ME " type when I see one...I just sat to my wow there are "mini" of us 😁 btw I think I'm a cross between soft benine and soft flamboyant cus I have no hips lol but that's why I look good in men's Levi's jeans ..no need for curves . 😁
I could be a soft gamine at 1.56m. Someone said I could be a flamboyant gamine like Penelope Cruz and Lady Gaga or even a soft natural. Someone said in a way some soft gamines are little softnaturals.
Thank you, & I have! I have a flamboyant gamine body type ☺️ ua-cam.com/video/KqY8zeMsFoA/v-deo.htmlsi=WlSsYX-8TWsJvINC I’ll be doing more videos on my style and why I dress the way I do ☺️. Thanks for watching!!
Is the shoulders a defining feature of soft gamine? I'm similar in some ways to this but also to soft classic. Although I'm only 5 foot 1 and have sloping shoulders.
A lot of Soft Gamines have some angularity in their shoulders - HOWEVER, the entire system is on a spectrum and so variations do exist and you don’t have to have angularity in your shoulders to be a SG. It’s possible to exist (and be a mixture) in between SG & SC!
Thank you for your video. It was very informative. I am torn whether I am soft of flamboyant gamine. I know I have petite ( I have had to taken so many tops and dress because I was swimming in them even though they should fit everywhere else). I have angular shoulders that are slightly wider than my hips ( I think by 1-2") , but I am narrow and compact. I don't know if I can't see myself objectivity and that is the problem 😅. I have a rounder oval like face and pointy chin. My hips seems rounder than some flamboyants I have seen, but I have lost weight and am quite thin so am I really round. I am small busted, but there seems to be a roundness in my bones behind it and I have lost weight so I feel like I am less curvy there than some soft gamines (except for Olsen twins). My arms are slightly long, narrow hands that appear average or maybe long. I am 5'3 so size 7 1/2-8 shoe seems long to me for my frame, but I don't appear too long. I know from years trying gifted thrift store clothes that geometric shapes look really odd on me. I don't know if it's because of my face/essence, or what, but angular things like that are just wrong on me and look like I am wearing someone else's clothes. My fear is that I am might have my biases and maybe what looks odd to me is not. I am comforted that waist definition, fitted/ tailored items and coloring blocking work for both because I really don't know.
Can you do true summer color palette for soft gamine. I can’t find that kind of content anywhere. It’s hard because with gamines colorblocking looks so good on us however, true Summers it is recommended monochromatic. Having a hard time balancing that out. Also, can you recommend clothing websites for soft gamines and true summers, 🥴 love love love your content brilliant 🎉🤗
Hi! Thank you so much for watching!! Great questions, first answer is I do not believe there are any style rules or archetypes linked to colour seasons (I believe your body type & essences drives most of that). Rule of thumb is to first prioritize your body lines, second make sure they're in your colours and top it all off with styles/accessories that match your essence. I'll be doing a video on this soon! Second answer is YES!! I'm in the process of creating an account on 'Shop My' where I will have sections dedicated to body types, colour seasons and essences (so you can browse those and check out the types of websites I use for each).
This actually is possible! I view this entire system as a spectrum so don't let the "types" feel like you aren't included or not part of the system! You are, you just may fall within two body types and it's 100% possible
Huh it is so hard to decide if I am FG or SG. I am inverted triangle shape, with a bit angular face... But I am fleshy. Dont know if I am very fleshy FG or very sharp, maybe drier SG (Dramatic and Natural essence)
It is a spectrum, so it is possible! My advice would be to film yourself wearing each of the lines, walk around, move and you'll be able to tell which feel and look more natural on you 😊
I hit I’m soft gamine but not sure I am 5,1 and have a rectangle body shape but I can see my body is not straight is more a little bit soft in my thighs and body and I do crab clothing that’s straight but also soft .. please help ❤️
Hi! If you feel like the Soft Gamine clothing lines work best for you over any other body type, then you might be right! I also offer body typing (as well as other analysis) if you need more help :). www.myleneamelie.com/appointments
Literally everyone types me as a soft gamine but I'm the opposite of dainty and delicate I'm super wide and big boned and the least dainty girl I've ever seen. What else could I be?
Hi! Yes there are lots of body types that Kibbe does not account for, I do however mix a lot of his to create new ones. I’ll be making videos about those soon ☺️. Which includes what you’re describing!
Maybe! If these lines really work for you, it could be the case. SGs don't always have a much bigger bottom than the top (but it could be the case if overall your shape leans gamine)
I’m a soft gamine. I’m 52 now and I know short skirts are recommended for us but now I would rather wear longer skirts and dresses. Anyone have any ideas? I do also have a casual lifestyle so styles I can move freely in are best so not pencil skirts.
Depending on the climate where you live, I find a lot of SGs who no longer feel comfortable with shorter dresses/skirts look great with tights on. Some Soft Gamines too can look great with styles just below the knees (just ensure it has structure with a soft edge to it), I wouldn't recommend a pencil skirt as it can be quite tight and too severe on SOME SGs. Look for softer a-line types, that should help!
I've always dressed as a soft gamine (even before I knew what it was), but in my early thirties I started to get uterine fibroids, which has eradicated my waist definition and makes me look always pregnant. Now 10 years later, I recently had embolization, which means they will shrink a bit, but I don't think I'll ever get my waist definition back. Now I don't know what to wear and always feel frumpy. I'm so short and soft (though not overweight). I wish I knew what I could wear to make me feel comfortable and flattered again! I spend my life hiding in oversized jackets that make me look wider, shorter and also just really inelegant. Like a rotund little child. Anyone have suggestions for a flattering silhouette for a pregnant-looking soft-gamine?
First of all I want to start off by saying your body (no matter what condition it is in) is beautiful & perfect the way it is 😊. I unfortunately cannot do much analysis without seeing pictures of you, but my suggestions based on your description would be to focus more on narrow and tailored clothing (not oversized) that'll help to keep you from looking shorter and wider. So a mix of soft gamine & soft classic will be helpful I think. You could experiment with empire waist too, but keep everything tailored and not oversized if you do this - again this is based on your description, so please take this advice lightly or you can always contact me if you'd like a professional advice on dressing your specific structure. Hope that helps a bit!
@@myleneamelie Thank you, it does! My wedding dress was actually empire line - way before I had fibroids, I just loved the Jane Austen aesthetic lol. I will give that a try!
This was helpful, because I have had trouble figuring out my body type. I think I am a soft gamine. I am 5'2", with narrow shoulders and wide hips. My flesh is soft. I look good in most of the styles you talk about. I am not lush enough to be a romantic, but I have wondered if I might be an ingenue (at the age of 75). I do have delicate bone structure, short arms and legs. I do not have the rounded face or large eyes that I see in lots of pictures of gamines. My face looks a little more classic. I also wonder if my hips are too large to qualify me as a gamine. It's like I have a gamine top and a romantic bottom, with soft flesh on my arms, thighs, stomach, and hips.
Sounds like you could maybe even be a theatrical romantic! I’d have to see photos of you to do a proper analysis, but I’m doing a video on TRs this week, so check it out 😉. Also our faces don’t always match our body structure, so that’s normal!
It looks a bit separate from you the soft gamine clothing you have.Short , breaking lines. But you are a flamboyant gamine yourself.May be if we see the whole body it will not look separated from you.

Are you wearing looser fabric/bigger sizes to try and hide your curves? That could be why you feel that way. I started wearing slightly more structured clothes, and people started asking if I'd lost weight when I hadn't. 'Conventional' wisdom says to wear a looser fit when you're plus sized, but for us, I think that's the worst thing we can do.
