This makes the thermostat and water pump replacement job I just did on my W212 E63 look like child’s play by comparison. Holy smokes you have zero room in that engine bay!
The Factory way and the Jonny way :-) Good tools make a big difference and quality tool makers that answer the needs of their clients are awesome, I have collected Mercedes and Volvo service tools over the years for 70's and 80's models and many of them are now long redundant compliments of newer tool designs, Nice to know its still occurring.
One thing about working at home, you have things that just aren't at the shop. I have a couple of extra pool noodles just for working on cars that I don't care if grease gets on them, that I stuff down into tight areas below things I'm taking off that might break if they fall all the way down and hit the ground. Also helps to keep them from getting down to an area that they might get jammed in and take a lot of extra time to get back up and out.
I like watching videos like this and reminds me of why I don’t really want to work on other peoples cars. There’s so much that has to be removed to get to one part and things can break like tabs or snapping a bolt. Shoot while you are filming a UA-cam video you should watch some to help you with the belt. I watch a lot of videos and it helps a lot.
@@The98deville Porsche has a programme for classic car parts such as 911, 928 etc.... but I think the Macan will never be a classic, when its life is over, it will become a frying pan.
New subsccriber, but knew about you for several years! I work on my 42 car collection, and I thought I was the only one who forgot how I did something to a car years ago! The only car I have close to a BMW is my 1999 Bentley Arnage with the BMW 740L engine! Much respect from NC!
Back! I was so worried there weren't going to be anymore after 2 months. Then just this morning my Subscription to the channel disappeared. I commented on Hoovie and Wizard's that you were gone, then did a search and the channel showed up there. Re-subcribed and on the same day a video came out, yeah!
I wish you would find the solution to the ubiquitous Honda S2000 off-idle stumble problem that literally no on on earth has a definitive solution for. I know you are not a Honda guy ... but I have thrown the challenge down for you! Thank you for your skill, professionalism, and your willingness to share it with the world.
Hey Johnny. You can make your life a lot easier, buy yourself a roll of .060" lock wire, use it to secure anything, so if you drop it, you can easily get it back. The pulley you just removed, lock wire around it, secure the ends to a water pipe, rubber hose, etc., and never worry about dropping searching for anything again!
Ninja do you think they made it so hard to replace so you don’t cheap out on the parts and to buy genuine parts! Sneaky Porsche. Happy to see you back my friend Respect from Greece
Great job! Enjoyable video. I would have had to replace the water pump while I was in there, but I understand customers have their limitations when also paying for your expertise.
I have an issue with my 2009 3.6 l Audi Q7 as the mechanic replace the head gasket as it was leaking and now I have a ssssss noise on back of the engine also doesn’t run as fast, hard brake’s and low mpg. Need to find a good mechanic in central Florida.
Nice to see another video, thought the Ninja went to rehab due to working on these cars!! haha. German cars are so fun to drive but such a PITA to work on. If the Germans could just make things easier to work on they would have the perfect cars. With everything going EV guess it won't matter down the road. Bummer.
Dude would make a great F-15 crew chief...LOL I had MANY MANY a shift doing things like this on my aircraft....so now I know I can do the thermostat and water pump on my 2018 Macan GTS(same color too!)...lol
"Don't cheap out on the parts it's not worth the labor" Yep, put a "good" alternator in my 9-5 only to do the same job 1 year later with the "better"(Bosch). This involves 2 jacks, one for the body, one for the engine.
I appreciate the idea of not cheaping out on parts, especially on a car like this. So I take it then that Zerex coolant is just as good as the OEM stuff or other German manufacturers like Liquimoly and the like?
Missed you, but i can see how you've been buisy, seems like the more emissions garbage covering the engine bay like octopus tentacles, hiding common failure parts that usually require maintenance, like the thermostat, belts, alternator, starter, and the many plastic components that become brittle and break due to the heat produced by the engine and exhaust, less people want to work on the stuff, which kinda gives a good shop like yours a llot more work. G-d bless y'all, looking forward to more video's.
The Car Ninja saying “stubby” reminds me of a mechanic friend who had a trainee back in the 80s. He was working on a car and the trainee, let’s call him Tyler, was ‘assisting’. The mechanic asked for a stubby Phillips, Tyler pretended to look for the screwdriver, he was taking too long a time. The mechanic was getting impatient and started shouting “pass the stubby Phillips! Have you found it, it was right there!!??” Tyler was getting upset that he couldn’t find it, and at being shouted at. The mechanic didn’t know that Tyler didn’t know what a stubby Phillips was, Tyler was too proud/scared to fess up. (Mechanics DID THINGS to trainees in the 1980s) The whole scene ended with Tyler screaming “WHO THE F**K IS STUBBY PHILLIPS, I HAVEN’T SEEN HIM, WHO IS HE, DOES HE WORK HERE?” 😮😂😢
Watched this video maybe 50 times. Can confirm that I was able to do this job in my parking spot at home. Took me about 7 days due to lack of tools. I would recommend getting the Porsche O-Ring Lube because the silicone did not work for me and the o-ring lube just popped right in. Thank you!
We missed you, Jonny! Shop still looks immaculate!
Great to see you back Mr Ninja
He's a sir, or doctor even. Genius, nice guy too.
Great to hear the shop is busy to the point you're bringing in more employees! Says a lot about your expertise and service
I think Jon and Mason are gone. Leaving Jonny, Ben and the two new guys.
Jonny is a freakin' boss. Doing all that blind by feel up to his armpits in the front of the car. Glad to have you guys back!
Great to see you back. "You could do it at home" - Now that's funny. I certainly couldn't.
Thanks. I wish you were local to me.
Watching the knowledge in that brain at work is always impressive.
Missed you Jonny!!! Glad you’re back and you were gone for a good reason!!
What was the reason, if you don’t mind my asking?
Good to see you washing your hands before getting in the car, I’ve seen so many that don’t
Great to see you again. You make auto repairs look easy.
He really does make it look easy, it’s anything but 🤷🏼♂️😃
I would’ve changed the water pump as well while you are in there!

Watching Jonny work is gracious.
Definitely taking notes! 📝
Missed you ninja
Glad to see you back at it man and always cool to see a Porsche on the channel
That's always nice when ninja tips to save time on how to do repairs that saves time. Nice Job🔥👍
Thanks for the video, it's always a pleasure to watch a talented technician. 👍
Missed you Mr ninja

Good to see you again Johnny, I'd like to see what happens to that engine 30 years from now, with all those plastic parts.
As long as it makes it thru the warranty that's all Porsche worries about which is sad considering the cost premium of their vehicles.

Love the confident way he cleans up before starting it up, I wouldn't dare tempt the Motoring Gods that way...
Engineers are the bane of mechanics and technicians whether it be for autos or industrial process plants
It’s so folks can’t do it themselves 😏😡
They design so maintenance after 3 to 5 years is ridiculous. 11 to 12 hours to change starter motor on Audi Q7!?
So glad you are back! You have been missed!
Glad to see you back Johnny! :)

There is the right way and then the Ninja way....
Another advantage of filming is that you can use it for training or to refresh your memory

When they design these cars, they should place more emphasize on how to maintain them, rather than looks.

Jeepers creepers, I am SO glad I don't have a modern German car... Feel for you working on this junk all day long.
