I've heard that Apple is coming out with a new one ... but it will be pricey (of course). Our wifi provider has known that the remote is awful for a long time, so they built their own Apple TV remote and have been offering it for $12. I've ordered one, so we'll see. One last thing: Apple thinks everyone loves using a voice interface (a very poor one in the case of the Siri remote) in general. No, a whole lot of us don't.
I was unaware of the last tip and it's something I will often use. Personally I find speaking to Siri to go back, (e.g. "Go back 20 seconds"), when I missed some dialogue really useful.
It must be a wonderful remote control, but it comes with absolutely a minimum amount of instructions so be prepared to be driven absolutely crazy. Thankfully there are a few UA-cam videos out there like this one that will keep you from being locked up.
Seems like Apple took some inspiration for those swipe pads from those that were on second generation Zunes. They worked very well on those but they were also much simpler devices.

I learned a tip recently by accident. When in screensaver mode, swiping on the track pad lets you scroll through the different scenes. Tapping the pad bring up the location of the scene.

Here’s an added bonus: while viewing a video you can find out what time the show will end by tapping the pad to bring up the duration timeline and then tap again. This will show at what time the show will end.

Thank you for these tips. My Applet TV unit was continuing to flash and I couldn't see anything on the tv. Once I held down the Menu & the Home button for at least six seconds, three times, then it rebooted and now everything works. This saved me from calling the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Now the remote is charging and know how to reboot if this happens again.
Obviously, typing is better done from your iPhone, etc. using the app there! Thank gawd they fixed that, the last time I had to enter an Apple ID password (random) from the AppleTV 'keyboard', OMG. Copy and paste from 1Password to the app, done!
My Apple TV in is repeating episodes. Disney stan and Netflix is fine it’s just the Apple TV section is self ... There doesn’t seem to be an option. I’ve rebooted it and restored it and it still does it. 🤷🏼♀️

Any USB-A or USB-C to Lightning cable with do. Go to Settings/Remotes and Devices. Shows the battery level there. I do not agree with this video saying to recharge every month. Pretty sure this is using a Li Ion battery and they do not like being 100% charged all the time. Nor do they like a low charge. I'd say try to keep them about 30 - 60%. I have no idea how long charging takes. If battery gets low you get a warning on screen. I just did and the battery was at 16% charge and the last time I charged it was years ago (but we don't use it much, I picked it up used with no documentation, so operation and all it can do has been by trial and error.)
I HATE this remote. I can't even go from "Locals" to "Family" on the Spectrum app. This thing is going in the trash. You can use any kind of Lightning cable/power adapter combination, or even connect it to a computer. The battery is tiny and will charge from any of them.
Apple, who once prided themselves, in being more “user-friendly”, has become a company with products, that are extremely pretentious and confusing. Simply put, this remote is bullshit. Why can’t they just come up with something that is functionally straightforward? It’s only a remote control after all.....RIDICULOUS.
After year and years of using iPod click wheels, iPhones, and Mac track pads, I’d argue that this remote is fairly simply and straight forward to operate. Remembering all the button combinations may take some practice but the alternative is having a button for each feature and then you just have every other remote and probably still can’t remember what that bottom does.

There’s prob a setting in your TV. “Control off by HDMI” is probably set to yes. And “control on by HDMI” is prob set to no. Change that and it will work.

This remote is the most annoying handheld remote control ever created. One of the things we all love about remote controls not having to look at it, just knowing which button is which by feel. Also whenever you pick up a remote it shouldn’t engage a button. Every time I pick up this remote something happens on the touchpad by accident and it makes me want to throw it through the wall. Everytime. I don’t even know if I’m holding the remote right when I pick it up I always have to double check that I’m holding it correctly. It slips out of my hand constantly, they may as well have made one coated in olive oil. The best thing to happen to this is I got a universal remote which took over for this for IP control. It has tactile buttons, up down left right buttons, oh yeah those. Apple remote designer Idiots.

Is there a shortcut to easily go back to the 0:00 mark (beginning) of a youtube video you’re watching with just one to three clicks? Right now I am required to tap several times (rewind) just to get back to the 0:00 mark. My kid likes watching Blippi videos every morning but he likes to watch it from the start then not finish it, So the following day, when we play the same video, it starts from where we left off so we have to drag it all the way back to the start every time. A real trouble because my son would start crying like crazy if it takes me too long to get the video playing from the beginning. #TiredDad

To jump 10 seconds, you can just press down on the right side of the touch surface to make it click. Do the same to rewind it by clicking on the left side of the touch surface. To fast forward, pause the video then scroll right on the touch surface to fast forward quickly to wherever you want.
@@eldonphukuile Probably comparing it to a conventional remote with a left, right, up and down arrow and an OK center button. Apple should have ditched the track pad and gone with a more Roku type design. Would have been much more user friendly.

I put the remote on a table and used a Q Tip to navigate. I still couldn’t activate the football game.

It’s the absolute worse. I’ve ordered a case for it in the hope it will at least mean I pick it up in the right orientation.
I bought a cheap silicone case on Amazon. It’s completely fixed the mishandling problem. The added lanyard helps with orientation too.

To jump 10 seconds, you can just press down on the right side of the touch surface to make it click. Do the same to rewind it by clicking on the left side of the touch surface.
To fast forward, pause the video then scroll right on the touch surface to fast forward quickly to wherever you want.
You can also use the voice button and tell it to rewind and ff in any increment of time you want

@@eldonphukuile Probably comparing it to a conventional remote with a left, right, up and down arrow and an OK center button. Apple should have ditched the track pad and gone with a more Roku type design. Would have been much more user friendly.
