I found out how this works: You need to pause the video, place your finger on the side of the wheel and wait for one second. Currently only a few apps are supported. Try it with the TV from Apple app.

Coming from a 10-year-old Apple TV - I needed a new one - obviously... If I were to only need a new remote I figure the $60 price tag would be well worth it. How can a remote control be so great... 1- quickly open a new app with Siri 2 - new trackpad becomes intuitive very fast 3- having a mute button on it is well worth it - not having to dig up the television remote - Same applies for the volume and ability to start and shut down both with one power button. 4- the size is just right in the hand - the flat sides (ala iPhone 12) is gold 5- Rechargeable battery 6- Being able to easily use the controls (most used are the mute, volume & pause buttons) without requiring to pick the remote up is also nice (for me 50% of the time) Lots of smaller remotes are not so well designed in that way! After a few more days I end up using all of the buttons in that way & less so the trackpad part.
It’s a really cool remote but it still lacks an input button. I wish Apple would add an input button (could go on the top left of the remote) and then make the power button turn the TV on / off with a quick press and turn the AppleTV off with a long press. Then it’d be the only remote I’d need as I have my AppleTV and video game consoles hooked up. As of right now, I’d need the Siri Remote + the TV remote just for power and input.
If you press and hold the TV/Control Center button and the Volume Down button at the same time you can restart the remote itself. We had to do that the other day when the remote would no longer control the volume.
Anyone having issues with the jog wheel feature? It won’t allow me to scroll the wheel to fat forward or rewind. When I first got it, that feature worked but now it makes me fast forward or rewind the same way the original remote did. Any feedback is appreciated.

If your new siri remote refuses to pair, make sure your TV is updated to 14.6. My TV4K was still on 14.2 despite automatic updates being turned on. I manually updated to 14.6 and finally the new siri remote decided it would actually pair when I held the back and volume-up buttons. To update manually, go into the settings app, then go into “System,” then go into “Update Software,” and update. It will take a while so don’t do it while you “need” the TV.

No you are not. Mine does the same thing. I called Apple and they confirmed that this function isn’t set up to work on UA-cam videos. I also tested it on Disney+ and it doesn’t work there either. I appears it only works on Apple TV+ content.

Great Video, My Question is there a way to completely turn off my Samsung TV with the Apple TV remote. NOW, the Apple TV remote only option is to put the Apple TV to Sleep, so it does turn off the Samsung TV for 30 seconds, and then the Samsung TV comes back on requiring me to use the TV remote to power off the TV. Just got it but in my bedroom, I just use Chromecast to watch UA-cam. Now that bedroom tv does not recognise it so when I tried to cast last night, it turned on my living room tv. Is there a way to bypass this or add my bedroom tv to my Apple TV set up? Thank you! ^..^

The original remote, which I hated, had the ability to skip forward or backward 10 sec with a right or left click, and here's the key... and keep playing. The new remote will skip but stops so you have to click the center to start playing again. Well that sucks, why does it stop playing? Oh and I can't get the rotate scroll to work for jogging or FFW
On the new Apple 4K, why does it abort streaming shows and return to the menu? I tried setting the Sleep Mode to never, but that did not work either. I could not find anything other than the Sleep Mode to change. Lastly, I Restarted the unit.
Will the power button turn on\off a soundbar and TV that aren't connected thru HDMI-CEC? I know it has IR control, but how flexible is this really?? I know the Amazon and Google remotes give you the power to control all devices via IR. I was hoping Apple would do this as well!
you yayada'd at light speed past the pip section. also, new info says that for scrubbing through a video quickly you should swipe back and forth. the circular motion is for fine control once you've reached the section you want and in some apps and situations it will simply rock back and forth a few seconds on each side. oh, and my major annoyance is that i can't get the audio output to 'stick' with my sonos system. you can set it in control center or settings or at the top dropdown, but it won't survive a pause and even just drops out at random and returns to the tv speakers which is supremely annoying. /guy
Too bad CEC control is broken with this latest software/firmware. Won’t wake my Nakamichi or Sony TV properly consistently. Paired back my old 1st gen 4K remote to the new box and cec works flawlessly. So mad at Apple
Hello Brother, I am having an issue with my new remote. Out of the box i installed youtube and other apps. Its Forward or Reverse touch is not working properly. Down half circle forward from left to right while upper half forward from left to right also which makes it unusable as complete circle. If you scroll completely it will go forward and reverse. Hello everyone, i get the solution. Its a technical thing and you cant scroll like iPod classic out of Box. For netflix and apple tv+ you can first press middle button for stop and then just rest your thumb on forward button (only rest not press it) immediately you can see the small vertical line convert to circle now you are able to move in a complete circle. For youtube its not working for me.
I am having a couple of issues with this new ATV. 1) my remote keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. This did not happen with my ATV HD model that I replaced with this new ATV 4K (2nd gen). 2) Some of these gestures don't work with some apps. For instance the "jog wheel" gesture doesn't seem to work with any other app but the appletv+ app. Also, I use the Spectrum app in lieu of a cable box. Right now the back portion of the d-ring doesn't work as it should. I am guessing that these kinds of issues will be fixed when these apps are updated?
So who is the expert here. I used to be able to see HomePod on the audio tab by hitting down button on wheel. Why doesn't Apple TV auto connect to HomePod? it's a pain having to get out of the content to go to settings then back into content. I gotta being doing something boomer-like here.

What is the "move to stores" option you showed when managing apps? Mine Apple TV 4k (tvOS 14.6) doesn't have that option and I couldn't find anything relevant searching the web.
I was perplexed too, but I figured it out. Andrew made a mistake and didn't realize this option isn't standard. When you create a folder, the option to "move to [insert name of folder]" now appears in the dropdown menu for the app. Andrew has a folder named "stores". I figured it out when I saw the image underneath "Method two" (3rd image down)on this instruction page: appletoolbox.com/how-to-work-with-apple-tv-folders-for-an-organized-view/ As you can see there are a bunch of "move to" options in that image. entertainment, cooking, instructions, etc.

Buttons aren't illuminated, no indicator to tell you it's charging - two huge lacks for a remote that costs this much.
I only started loving my remote when I got a rubber grip case for it; which gives the slippery device some great grip feel.

Siri and Hulu give me the most problems it always start on season 1 instead of what i was watching last . Which is season 14 or shark tank

The old remote does everything this can just in different ways, the only new thing is the dedicated mute button and the scrolling got more precise

The shuttle function on the scroll wheel doesn't work properly with UA-cam. It goes forwards then backwards as you scroll. Am I using it wrong?

The only thing I found is the new remote won’t keep playing when you skip 10 seconds, as the old one did.
