This session gives you some idea of just how powerful they were when they played live. Go look for some live footage from their first couple of years and see what I mean..
Oh yeah, the Jam in all their punky glory, bursting with enthusiasm. Whether you thought the Jam were merely a mod revival band or rather a legit card carrying member of punk class of '77, there's no denying the band had a thrilling intensity to their music. All Around the World/ Carnaby Street was a single (7/8/'77) and tracks 1-3 showed up on their second album This is the Modern World (11/4/'77) Unlike their initial Peel session (also posted by the terrific Vibracobra23) where the songs were played very close to the album versions, here it sounds to me they rev it up a notch and I actually prefer these Peels to the album versions. After their first two lp's in 1977, the Jam moved away from their punk roots, becoming a VERY popular band on the British charts. Amazingly they scored 4 top 10 albums and 8 top 10 singles, 4 of which reached # 1. Quite a testament to their evolution.
Early punks and amazing, including the Legendary Paul Weller , who is still going strong......Amazing......The Peel sessions brought out the best in a lot of bands......
" The Sense Of Urgency " The Unwavering Velocity " The Jam's New Wave Credentials Were Absolutely Cemented " As This " Vintage Peel Session " Amply Demonstrates " !!! From Adrian Browne 1965

The Jam were the original Mod/Punk crossover band. Had I been a music hack at the time, I would have labelled them "Monks"!!! ;D
