However, when it comes to the rear, it feels like a departure from the cohesive design, appearing somewhat flat and lacking the excitement of their new electric cars. It's like they had two different design teams working on each end. What do you all think about this interesting design contrast?

What's the hype around fake exhaust every car journalist has, I mean what difference does it make.... what will change if there are actual exhaust pipes in them... it's just someday a journalist decided to hate it and everyone followed him blindly
Mercedes have certainly shown inconsistency towards their coupes during the past 30 years. CL was originally applied to their renamed S and E Class coupes, when they became CL and CLK, and then to their 4 door coupes (CLS and then CLA). The 2dr coupes’ names went back to sharing model names with their saloon counterparts around 10 years ago while CL stayed, and remains, for the 4dr coupes. And despite its name the CLS is a 4dr coupe counterpart of the E-Class. And let’s not forget the CLC, which was a renamed, facelifted C-Class Sports Coupe. Moving to the CLK which, while supposedly marketed and priced as a E-Class coupe and shared similar design cues, were based on the smaller and cheaper C-Class’ architecture. And now we have this CLE, a car which has more in common with the C-Class’ version of the MRA2 platform and shares that car’s interior and wheelbase, but will no doubt be priced more as a E-Class coupe to reflect its name. Just like the CLKs. But all that aside, the CLE looks fabulous!
Set the sound system into surround sound and it’ll activate the headrest speakers. The 15 speaker system in the C class is 11 constant playing and 15 playing with active surround.
Respectfully, I wonder why they didn't revive the old CLK class name? This car is essentially is part of that lineage since the previous CLK was based on the C-class architecture, and used the C-class's interior and most of its suspension. Its a breathtaking design honestly, but the decision to not allow it to share in the absence of a B pillar (as previously mentioned) really brings the car down-market squarely into 4/a5/Q60/rc territory. Hopefully final pricing will be aggressive, otherwise it may run the risk of alienating upper-level Mercedes Coupe buyers.
The Mercedes names changed a few years ago to be being based on the last letter being a class level (So GLS is S-Class grade, GLC is C-Class grade). So in this case they are saying it is E-Class. grade.
@@gonzochild That makes sense, & we all saw that coming when they switched the ML to the GLE in 2016 to bring it in line with the main line model E class sedan or the introduction of the original "4 door coupe" CLS in 2006, which does the same thing this car does but from a squarely E class based platform. However I think there is slightly more validity in the older name. Particularly when this car is far less E class than it is C class.
The nomenclature of the C in CLK was taken from the CL at the time and was a play on saying it's the compact version of that. The CLK design was that of the E-Class.
@@yxdxb I'm aware of that & your right, but just like today the CLE is mechanically closely related to the C class. My comment is focused on both the on the surprising similarity me chin silly and asethtically in the lineages Clever marketing aside, just as the GLK, SLK, and CLK are all born from the C class chassis, so is this current CLE. The only technology I hoped for is to be able to do super-fast charging with the USB-C port. Just bought a new C Class a month back and am disappointed that its USB-C ports and wireless charging can only do normal charging. This is so outdated. Was able to do super-fast charging in my previous C Class through its cigarette socket, which is no longer available in the new models.
The point of not having the exhaust coming out of the tail pipe housings is because the fumes would deteriorate them in no time at all! They are just for looks like many other modern cars.
With reference to the missing headrest speakers. This is one thing that scares me when ordering any new factory build; are we going to actually get all the options and extras we pay for!?! Used cars or "existing stock" avoids this problem because you can view it before buy, but I always prefer new factory builds.
I like it... sort of. Fills the gap the CLK left after it got discontinued. But it's really the E class coupé with a worse interior. The only gripes I have with it is that it's a bit expensive (but that also goes for the 214 E class - and if it sells better than their EQE, who cares), the front is a bit boring and the engine/drive train options could be more exciting, at least considering the price tag. I'm sure the inline six is nice, but I just wish there was something more interesting between the 200 and this. The 300 with 4 cylinders just seems inconsequential, you really could afford some CO2 certificates to properly equip a sports coupé, guys... Oh, and cut the AWD.
Wow !!!! Love the design and the profile is genius. It looks like doesn't have a b pillar then you open the door and it's there..the only thing I didn't like was that rear lights don't connect as a light bar and on the bottom: the fake exhaust outlets
So basically a CLK… Yea I had a CLK 55 AMG back in 2004 and I loved it. But back then it sounded like a monster Mercedes Ffff up with not putting vents on the hood and have workable vents.
Absolutely stunning vehicle. Great job! However, the infotainment and gauge cluster are huge letdowns. Not a fan of the tablet style instrumentation that looks like an after thought and just slapped atop the dash and center console. Much prefer the layout of previous generations. Nice car nonetheless.
Nothing E about this. Its just a C coupe and should have been named as such. No pillarless windows is an absolute tragedy. The 2018 E coupe bodyshape with the two lines LED headlamps will always be the most beautiful E class coupe created. Even the midcycle facelift ruined it with just the two dots on the headlamps.
Mercedes have shot themselves in the foot completely with this. Price of an E coupé with the interior of a C class and without many of the special bits we love from the old E coupé. Rubbish. (As a spot of context I spent 10 years of my childhood in C207 E classes.)

Just bought a new C Class a month back and am disappointed that its USB-C ports and wireless charging can only do normal charging. This is so outdated. Was able to do super-fast charging in my previous C Class through its cigarette socket, which is no longer available in the new models.
Take a shot everytime Rory says "Distinctive"
Can’t wait to see the CLE AMG.
Great Video Rory!
Design and profile remind of an upside down bathtub on wheels with Asian car design influences for headlights
The way MB incorporates heritage and the future in second-to-none.
Awesome episode ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! The new AMG CLE 53 completes this vehicle into a sport GT, best of both worlds 🌒🌍
Excellent review!
How does this compare to the 2021 c43 amg?
So basically a CLK… Yea I had a CLK 55 AMG back in 2004 and I loved it. But back then it sounded like a monster
Mercedes Ffff up with not putting vents on the hood and have workable vents.
Why wouldn’t they do the pillar less design??
I love the seats !!
costs money
Mercedes have shot themselves in the foot completely with this. Price of an E coupé with the interior of a C class and without many of the special bits we love from the old E coupé. Rubbish. (As a spot of context I spent 10 years of my childhood in C207 E classes.)
Price is actually same as c coupe if you compare to the same gen c class sedans. This right here is simply a c coupe in larger
Beautiful looking car. Gorgeous tan leather too. Jury's out on the matt paint finish. Spoils the overall look.
"welcome to the interior of the new CLE. as you see it's got a lot in common with the C Class interior" ...BECAUSE IT IS A C CLASS -COUPÉ
