  • There is always a debate over whether to buy EXC250 or EXC300. Many riders will say that the 250 does not have enough power and that the 300 is a much better engine, but I cannot agree with that. Both bikes have their pros and cons, the 250 is quite interesting to ride and gives the feeling of being easier to control than the 300. While the KTM 300 has the advantage of having strong bottom end power and giving you more grip in tough conditions.
    I am here to show you that it is also possible to ride KTM150 and have fun, of course this engine does not have much bottom end power and that is big disadvantage in hard enduro. Because you always have to use the clutch and be precise with throttle. The KTM 150 is very light and awake, full of power. The ideal engine for training and advancing your hard enduro skills. Each bike has his own soul, I like 150 more and it is more interesting to ride. There is always a smile on your face when you hear his sound. But 250 or 300 i would choose when i should compete in the enduro race. Because a bigger engine tires your body less, gives more traction on the ground, and of course would be a better result in the end.

      Yup. But if the pilot remains the same then better/more suitable bike can make the difference between getting though the trail or failing on a hill or obstacle.

    I have 8 years experience on the 300, 1year on the 125 and now 1,5 years on the 150. In the 2,5 years on the 125 and the 150 i learned more than in the 8 years on the 300.

    I had a 150XC-W and now a 300XC. The 300 is less fatiguing and easier in technical terrain. The 150 can do anything the 300 does but it is harder.

    The smaller cc 2 strokes sound so good too. The 250s and 300s don't have that pissed off chain saw sound.

    nice vid! i have an old ktm 125 and im totally happy with it. ideally i would have prefered a used 200 (since i cant afford the 150) cause 200 has the weight of 125 and almost 250 power, but the ktm 200 motor is very hard to sort out

    Nice vid and good comparison.
    I'm on my 2nd year with 150tpi. Moved from 250tpi to this and could not be happier. After complementing it with tsp ecu & head I could go a gear higher and lug it like 300 when needed. At the moment it's the best bike overall I've had, keeps cool, quiet on low revs, reliable and super fun on speeds under 80kmh. Most of my riding is slow technical stuff and learning the basics.
    I now have new 300 and will be swapping between the two whole year to see which I actually like more.

    I sold my -19 Beta 300 for a -18 KTM 150 sx for the reasons you mentioned, a lot more fun to ride and the weight of the 150 is a lot less. I love the aer forks aswell, awesome to be able to change the the pressure for different terrains. Soft and plush for enduro and stiffer for sandy mx tracks. Are your bike a 2018 aswell?
    And for bottom end power you can allways go down to a 12 front sprocket and maybe a 51-51 rear sprocket. If you got the money you can allways invest in a Lectron Billetron or a smartcarb2. Heard that the JD jetting is good too.

    Genuine question - I had 2019 250 EXC as my first enduro bike. Currently learning on GasGas 280 trial and I am about to pull the trigger on 2024 Haski 150. I am 185cm and 100kg without gear. I want to LEARN to ride and to be more aggresive on the gas. No plan racing at all. Wondering will bike “suffer” under my weight and might need quicker rebuilds? Also, will 12/50 help in hard enduro, as well as heavier clutch plates/weights?

    Yeah, the Aussie legend Shane Watts was one of the first guys to use the smaller bikes to his advantage in the GNCC races in the states. He was beating big bore bikes on 125s and 200s.

    Couldn't agree more, 50% of the 300cc riders would benefit more and would be able to learn and develop their skills faster with that same bike but everyone keeps thinking that power is everything...
    Love your videos with the 150, you have to try the 150 TPI to compare the bottom end power difference.
    You are riding the 150SX, right!?

      I been riding my ktm 125 exc for over 10 years and i still think it's enough for me. But it was getting old and i want my enduro road legal. 300 made more sense

    I have a 150 and I weigh 135 pounds at 5’9 I would say ideal bike for people around my size. I ride anywhere from extreme enduro to sand pits to motocross tracks and it handles anything I throw at it easily

    Had a no hour 16' Te125. So much fun. Tight or technical. Even single track could stay ahead of the 300s. Wot. But so lightweight. Guy wanted it for his wife. So I got a new 19 Te150 to replace it.

    Great video and riding. It also depends on how much you weigh as a rider whether the 150 will climb as well as a 250 or 300. If a rider weighs 230 pounds vs 160 pounds, will have a big impact.

      I weigh 230lbs... I ride a 2013 KTM 125 EXC Sixdays. I ride hard enduro and have been for years. Ive raced and Ive ridden with some very experienced guys and my fatass on the 125 has always kept up and done every obstacle, because ive forced myself to learn how to pull alot of performance out of the bike. Weight matters. But not as much as you may think it does on a small bike. The only areas i have struggled in are very muddy climbs where the 125 has a tendency to spin.

    I ride both a 300 and a 125 regularly. Although the 125 is more than capable of being ridden in enduro, it is exhausting at least for me. I can ride alot longer at a fast pace with the added torque of the 3 hundo.

      Love your comment and totally agree. Each has its place and hard enduro is no place for sub 300’s. The lack of torque is purely exhausting. My sons only 14. Loves hard enduro and 💯 percent prefers his 21 model 300 exc over his 20 model 250 exc. the difference is night and day. I love how all these know it alls on small bores think that 300 riders just want more power. They fail to realise it’s all about the controlled torque the 300 delivers on the really difficult stuff and nothing to do with total power output. I think it’s the constant need for clutch slipping that causes most of the fatigue. 👌

    Also if you slap a high comp head, a set of v force reeds, a set of tire mousse with a hybrid trials tire in the rear you'll pick up alot of low end torque. The heavier tire carcass and mousse tubes add good weight to the rear tire acting like a flywheel weight for bottom end making it close to a perfect singletrack weapon. 👍

    There was a time when enduro had 125, 200, 250 and open class which was 251 and over, many manufacturers made the smaller bikes but the 125 and 200 were dropped and they only made 250 and 300 2 strokes.
    200 was a great bike for many, even the Honda XR 200 was an amazingly capable bike and it was a 4 stroke, many even say the 250 4 stroke is a better all round bike than the 450 like the 200 was than the 300.
    With a smaller bike you have to ride more aggressive than a bigger bike but it is less fatiguing to ride, no need to hang on as tight.
    Check out a certain Shane Watts, he was amazing on a 200 and beat many riders on bigger bikes in world enduro in I think the mid to late 1990s when 2 strokes were the kings.

    The 250 TPI is the sweet spot......, its the best of all of them, can do everything a 300 can plus more, much easier to live with, easier to ride, less energy, more nimble, best of the TPI bunch

    Hi,I have a question.I have yz250f and i usually play with clutch in forest,will I burn clutch plates in a short time if I will doing this.Somtimes you can feel smell like something is burn.

    I had a ktm 300 and it was an awesome bike, no complains. Right now i bought a beta 200 and the bike feels really light and easy to manuever. Althought, its a bike that demands more of the rider and it takes some time to get used to it! Besides that its really a great bike and awesome to ride

    If this was a tool review channel you’d of just done a side by side comparison between Flathead & Phillips screwdrivers made by the same company. There’s a good reason that races are broken into size classes. They’re different tools that essentially look the same from a distance & basically do the same job. Only once your hands on it’s painfully obvious they each have they’re own specific purpose for being made.

    Is there much of a difference between the 150sx and xcw, if so what are they and why is he using the sx for enduro??

      I own both bikes....recently picked a basically new '18' SX with .2hrs on it.....the XCW motor is a bit pig-like compared to the very quick SX.....first off, the cdi boxes are way different, the SX is much better/more aggressive even with added 18" rear, the engine of XCW is weighted with FWW and starter, and is prone to bogging, so jetting is even more critical for XCW. After 2 days of riding the SX, it has much better snap/throttle response and bark compared to XCW, the one thing I haven't tested is putting the SX cdi onto the XCW, which should be pretty interesting.
      Stock gearing 6 speed on SX is 13/48, XCW is 13/50, the SX motor still has way better punch/pull with stock gearing and 18" rear....for the Texas area, don't need anything more than 13/48 or 49t for woods racing, bike just flat out rips, 49t will easily climb fair sized stuff....really depends how much top end you want to sacrifice. Had I known back in 2017 the difference between the 2 bikes, would never have bought the XCW. Also, I run Keihin 36/39 Dicks Racing carbs with V-Force reeds...best of all worlds setup, bottom end snap with top end better than the typical 38mm MX'er carb.

    Very long and hard uphills in my country you need 450 (exc) . When you ride on track maybe 150 is enough. But deep and high mountains where we ride 150 no way!

    Razmisljam o kupovini jednog od 150 cc, za sina, ima 14 god. i jos je zelen, mada vec vozi i mog 300cc, mislim da bi mu 150 vise pasao i vise bi se zabavljao, a i ja bih ga rado vozio 😂😂😂

      Ja ću isto sebi exc 150 uzeti, imam 23 godine ali samo 60 kg. Vozio sam 300cc od kolege, jako je to za mene.

      @@0mega911 mislim da ces bit jako zadovoljan njime! 300 cc stvarno umara, moras biti u dobroj kondiciji da bi ga drzao 4-5 sati...a mi budemo cesto i puno duze u sumi....ja imam preko 100kg i fizicki posao radim, al svejedno me umara!!
      Na kraju sam sinu uzeo Gas Gas 125cc, cross. 150 cc od KTM-a kojeg sam racunao kupiti, prodan je....ali smo pre zadovoljni sa Gas Gas-om! Okretan, lagan i pun klinac snage ima u visokim okretajima....stelamo ga po malo, da bude puniji u niskim, kemijamo...🤣

      Hvala ti sto si odgovorio i bas mi je drago sto si nasao motor za njega. Ja sam pre sedmicu dana uzeo ktma exc 150 2024 nov na extra snizenju ovdje u Njemackoj, dolazi tek za 2 sedmice. Jedva cekam da ga vozem. Moj prosli i prvi motor sto sam uzeo je DR 650 bas dobru suspenziju ima i odlican je za lagane puteve, ali imam osjecaj da je sve tesko na njemu. 😂

      DR je legenda, kao klinac sam ga sanjao!! Ali, u usporedbi sa novim hard enduro motorima i jest tezak! Pogotovo naspram dvotaktnih motora!
      Uzivaj u novome EXC-u, a i kupovina takvog motora danas, pravi je pogodak za buducnost. Suska se da KTM od 2026. gasi proizvodnju dvotaktnih enduro motora, zbog sve zahtjevnijih normi protiv zagađenja i konzekventne kompleksnosti homologacije istih! Pa ako ga budes cuvao nekoliko godina, mozda postane trazen od kolekcijonara i imat ces nesto ca vrijedi pravu lovu....🤣
      Teza mi je malo nategnuta, ali mislim da nije nemoguce....ja svoga Rieju-a cu zadrzat, rijeđi je od KTM-a, pa ga mozda neki ludi spanjolac bude spreman platiti u budućnosti....

    How much do you weigh?
    You say you have to keep the revs down to
    prevent tires spin, and then say it has very little
    bottom end. I'm light and wonder if this might
    have enough low end torque for me in light to
    intermediate enduro..

    250 2 stroke - the perfect cc bike
    All this latest rave with an extra 50cc - people think more perfect. But this isn’t the case. The 250 is the sweet spot.
    So many clowns 🤡 on these 300 xcw now days. Much less snappy/playful/fun than 250. Oh and sound. Perfectly jetted 250 is music to my ears.

      -counter balanced engine
      -electric start
      -ALSO KICKSTART***
      -carbureted which makes more power and more reliable than TPI. which also by the way is far from perfected. Every TPI runs different than the next, and they all have finicky issues over the course of their ownership.
      The Carb’d years make more power. But the TMX Mikuni is garbage. Gotta replace with Keihin 38mm Air Stryker with a jd jet kit.

      @@mulliano420 I haven't bought anything yet and I don't think I can buy anything for a while. First I have to get enough money to pay for my motorcycle license which costs about $1000 (it's mandatory in my country) and then to buy a motorcycle which costs about $9000 and also to buy the very necessary gear (helmet, gloves...). All in all, it will cost almost $11000.
      Unfortunately I'm only 17 years old, I'm a student and my parents have little money so for the moment I'm saving every penny I have, I'm waiting to be able to work and I'm keeping the dream I've had since I was little: to have a motorcycle.
      I was looking for the best options to start enduro in order to have a specific goal to achieve and because I am very interested in this in general.
      PS: I can't buy a used motorcycle to pay less because there are very few on the market in my country and most of the offers sell motorcycles in bad condition.

      @@nytrex_tlnb damn man! I’m sorry to hear it. I’m from the states, 20 yo in college. I’ve just been buying used bikes, started when I was 16 or 17 on dirtbikes, but I’ve been riding atv’s a little while now. Last bike I bought has turned into a project, a 1997 kdx220 and it’s kinda turned me off used bikes given how much I paid for it.. do as you’d like but if you’re brand new to the sport, try a smaller displacement. I think 4 strokes might be the best to learn on and the fuel injected ones are gnarly. If you wanna do 2 stroke though, I think the kx112 is attractive, though for enduro the yz125x is almost the same cost as an enduro 300. 4 wheelers/atvs are a blast too, in your case I would snag the best deal you could find and get to riding sooner, but I understand completely wanting to hold out for the big boy, just know stuff can turn sideways real quick on a near 50 hp dirtbike

Concerning atv's I actually started to ride some a few years ago (when I was around 11 to 12yo). My father and brother love atv's so I started on a little chinese 125 that my brother had bought for himself, it was pretty cool but I was reaching the limits very quickly. 2 years ago I started riding my dad's CFmoto 500 from 2008 and I like it, it's pretty fun but I'm very small for my age because of a medical condition (I'm barely 160cm/5'2" for a little less than 45kg/100lb I'm still growing a little bit but according to a specialist I'll be a little less than 170cm/5'7" at my maximum height). For this reason I find that even though it's fun, a quad is too big for me and I also need a license to ride it, so every time I ride it it's illegal and risky.
      I really looked at the different options and which one will be the best for my use, and I think I'll prefer a 2-stroke rather than a 4-stroke although a 4-stroke is easier to ride. I want to do some slow riding in the forest (never exceed 50kmh/30pmh), I want to be able to go everywhere without getting into trouble and eventually ride some small or medium hills and do a little bit of crossing (I like trial riding too).
      The kx112 is not available in my country, the yz125x is not homologated so we are not allowed to ride it except on small private grounds like motocross tracks. I'm currently very interested in the beta 125rr (it's the cheapest new 125 2 strokes I've found) or the Rieju MR200 Ranger and if by some miracle I manage to have a little more money than I expected, I'm thinking of getting a beta 200rr.
      Apart from that I have a question:
      Would you recommend me ADV or Enduro gloves? I need gloves to get my license, the lessons and test are on the road but then I would like to keep them for enduro and atv however even though I will only be doing enduro/atv once I get the license I will still have to do some road riding to get on the trails, so what do you think is the best option?
      The law also imposes to wear CE certified gloves (European protection standard)

      @@nytrex_tlnb just whichever ones you’re more comfortable with. I’m really only familiar with MX gloves and I like the Fly brand pretty good. but I have no idea on enduro gloves

      @@eng.ricardogarcia good to know. I’m trying to decide between 150 and 250. 5’7 190 and ride about 5-7x per year. Mainly flowy single track, 2 track, hills once in a while and occasionally a little intermediate rock gardens. I want the 150 and I like the weight of the 150 just not sure if I will regret not going 250.

      @@DMobley232 I'm 1,74 m and 75 kg. The major aspect I found is the lower velocity that I can put at the last speed, and the more change requirement. But I have more fun and control at tight sections - thats the major reason that I got the 150 2t. I you could make a test drive before, you'll decide better 150 or 250

    The 150 is not for beginners everyone riding a 300 should have to ride a 150 for a year to up their skills before owning a 300 again. I have one in the stable right next to the 300 and when I start getting bored with the ultra tech trails I ride I pull the 150 and torture myself some more lol

      I agree, 150 is a lot more fun and you can learn a lot with it. Of course the 300 is easier to drive and better for the enduro.

    Of course its competitive if the riders good lol But much harder for the average rider to ride at that rev range all the time. Much more forgiving on a 250-300. Why else does NO pro race a small bore in the series.

      300s are the ultimate crutch bike and thats okay. If your main goal is to just ride fine get a 300 a 28oz flywheel and a recluse. But if you wanna actually ride a 125-200 even snappier 250s are much better at skill development
