    As a cosmetologist who often has brightly colored/ and pastel hair I can tell you that the reason using heat on your hair (whether hot water or hot tools) makes your color fade faster is because it opens up the cuticle (outer layer of your hair) resulting in the color leaving the hair shaft at a quicker rate. Cool water will keep the cuticle layer closed, thus preserving your color for the maximum amount of time :)

      So a stylist used hot irons on my hair the other time and said it was to close my cuticles because I chose not to trim my ends. I didn't like the excessive heat use because it was already straight.

    Hair stylist here! All of these tips are great, but one more thing you can do if you still find your color washes out easily is to wash your hair in your shower LAST. Even if you washed it with cold water, the heat from both your scalp and the rest of the shower will warm that wet hair right back up, making the follicles swell and open up so the color can leech out.
    Clip your hair up out of the way or use a shower cap so it doesn't even get wet until you're ready to shampoo/condition as the very last step.
    (This also helps preventing color mix/bleed if instead of pastel hair you have a lot of different bright colors in your hair!)

    My cousin (who's a hairdresser) taught that by mixing in purple food coloring in a non-transparent shampoo and conditioner can give you the same results as a store bought purple shampoo and conditioner. It's her little secret she does to maintain her blonde as she's not a fan of store bought purple shampoos. I tried this last time I went blonde and it worked for me

    Hairstylist here, and I’d have to say that you’re really on the money. Mixing your own depositing conditioner is a great way to save yourself some hassle. Also, be aware of the colors you’re using. If you like to change your hair color the two colors that are the hardest to cancel out are red and green. Any other color you can start to fade into others with refreshers, but those are deeply depositing colors. With bright/pastel colors try to keep in mind that heartless styles will save your hair’s life! I’ve seen heat completely strip out color! Pin curls, rag curls, hair wraps, and other heartless methods will help you keep your color looking great!

    The thing about dyeing the hair a bright colour and then making it pastel as it fades is excellent for pink hair, but it can go really wrong with bright purple, or blue hair. The semi/demi-permanent dyes often leave a lot of green residue on the hair after they fade, making it very hard to have a good base for a pastel colour without bleaching it again.

    A few months ago I got a detachable handheld shower head for like $20 and I just flip my head upside down to wash my hair with cold water without freezing the rest of me. They’re super easy to set up, too. Even with a normal shower head washing upside down helps minimize your contact with the cold water.

    I do all of this when I want silver/ lavender hair & tbh the thing that helps the most for my hair is to over tone it and let it fade (like what you recommend for obtaining pastel hair) & then just using my color/ conditioner toner every time I wash my hair and it builds up the color and keeps it pretty & its tbh the best way to achieve this color. I'm gonna go mix a bowl now cause ur hair is making me miss mine!!!!

    This is exactly how I maintained my white blonde hair. Especially the cheap conditioner and light dye tip. I'm not natural blonde for the time being as I got tired of the upkeep. Though I still occasionally do a conditioner with purple dye to get some of the yellow canceled out as my natural colour is a bit too golden to my liking.

    I was told that if you have silver hair you shouldn’t use purple shampoo because it’s meant to strip out any impurities so it mistakes the silver dye as a bad contribution. It could be totally wrong but that’s what my stylist said. Thanks for these tips! :)

    • @bonesfortniteblevins8186
      @bonesfortniteblevins8186 2 роки тому

      purple shampoo specifically doesn't strip impurities. shampoo can strip impurities, and will fade any hair dye, but adding purple or any pigment to a shampoo or conditioner will not change it's affect, other than color correction / coloring the hair itself. that being said, some brands of purple shampoo strip more / less color than others, as some shampoos in general have formulas that don't work well with colored hair / toned hair.

      1 1 pastel is probably the better opinion unfortunately sea and sand and sun (all the fun stuff!) fades coloured hair no matter what bright colour you are so good choice on switching up before your hols I mean go on hols with red hair just be prepared that it will not look it's best by the time you get back xx

    the reason why hot tools fade color faster is that heat breaks the hydrogen bonds in your hair and opens the cuticle so when you have a semi permanent color which sits on the outside of the hair shaft it disperses and breaks down the color sitting there causing it to fade
