Okay so I’ve seen a lot of live action so I think the use of the matrix slow motion but fast moving characters wills help. Anime shows a human element that’s is disconnected from our society but when you see the matrix it’s still standard for action film. People need to be okay with a bit of extra flash on screen I think to enjoy. Scott pilgrim is my the best second example where people just accepted that it’s more animated then what is usually. Also some people express themselves in animated ways as well in real life so I can see subtle good animated movie coming but, film writers understand people so idk why it’s so hard to makes development subtle in films. But maybe it’s the average movie goer who doesn’t think about films

Now Netflix's shills are saying it "wasn't supposed to be good." If it wasn't supposed to be good, then why was it made? To inflate egos? Maybe it was just to rejoice in the destruction of a classic anime and to see the tears that its real fans shed. Either way, it wasn't worth it.

I think for me the worst offense of this series is how some claim this “improved” the anime. When I heard that I nearly popped a vein. Bad enough Netflix produced garbage but to have the audacity to make that claim is BS. The original series had its problems but there’s a reason why it is just as beloved now as it was back when it was made. It was timeless. Watanabe and his team put so much effort and care into the series and had the talent to boot. This reject series can’t even claim that. It would be one thing if this series actually improved the small issues of the original but it doesn’t. Overall F Netflix. F the people who arrogantly try to defend this series and try to claim that this is better than the original. Not in a million years.

Some of those ''creators'' can't do anything by themselves. They make reboots/remakes/adaptations of previous works, mutilate them beyond recognition except for few references and try to sell it as better or fixed. Those works aren't made of love for the original. It's made out of spite to ''make those fanboys cry''. This people would paint over the ''Mona Lisa'' and call it an improvement.

Every single person in this anime feels like an actual individual with flaws and desires. But Netflix turned them into cartoon versions of them. This is a parody. How can they claim they improved on something that was nearly perfect. Fuck that.

One of the comments here said something about the anime feels more mature without the swearwords and that person is absolutely right. The anime has some humor, but is overall pretty serious and mature. It deals with mature themes in a very good way, it does not shovel every info into your brain, it leaves space for imagination or in other words: it makes you think. The US Netflix BS version shovels everything into your face... with a sledgehammer so that every dumbo knows whats happening and does not feel "left out". A typical modern Hollywood problem, dumb it down so it appeals to everyone, while actually appeal to noone.

Some stuff gets changed between dubbing, but either way definitely not what he wanted to happen. Also, I feel jet was changed due to his VA being black, and Faye is just a really bad personification of her anime counterpart. Gren was a perfect character for trying to get people to empathize with the idea of gender dysphoria. This was back when the series first came out, and people had a harder time expressing themselves. It was helpful and liberating for people to be able to point to the character and what was done to *him* and say, "How would you feel if someone forced gender changes onto you?" But this push for a supposed "non-binary icon" robs people of that. Never mind that anime and games are more and more presenting us with characters like Astolfo or Venti. Hell, even Crim from Reviewers, a silly show, but a legitimate character with both sexes who expresses primarily as a feminine male. But, of course, those characters don't specifically refer to themselves with western gender terminology, so they're tossed to the wayside in favor of ruining an excellent case study in gender dysphoria so pop culture can have its "icon". I'm sick of such nonsense. It really is just all about appealing to demographics and trying to take their money over here.

The whole concept of the show is to kind of mimic classic westerns (one of the any inspirations for the show tbh, there is even some oldschool James Bond in the show) which a lot of that has to do with the fact japanese writers at the time took a lot of inspiration from western works. Many old shows have the same set up. Main character with a haunted past that drifts around with a main cast of characters they are loosely connected to but are never fully focused on. (Even fucking Doctor Who follows this format due to how widely used it was) However they all have defining character traits. Which allows you to not really have a congruent story and tell many small isolated stories with said cast of characters

The fights, the music, the characters. It grabbed me immediately. I won't say I loved every second of it, but I don't think there was an episode that I didn't at least find something to enjoy. I had already heard about Netflix making a Cowboy Bebop adaptation so I gave the trailers a crack and didn't immediately hate it. Well, I didn't die, but it was pretty bad lol. We pirated it so we wouldn't have to pay netflix for the experience and we watched the whole series
General consensus was "the show on its own is aggressively mediocre, but as an adaptation it fails on all counts (with the possible exception of jet)"
The fight scenes were comically bad, Faye is written like a teenage girl trying waaay too hard to be "badass" and just comes off as obnoxious and immature. Like weekend points out, the show refuses to take anything seriously, which subsequently destroys the tension of any situation.
They bastardized way more characters than even I expected. Some characters I completely failed to recognize. (Granted, I even as recently as I watched the original, I had trouble remembering everything, which definitely didn't help)
We didn't like the subplot with Jet's daughter at all. I personally felt it unnecessary. Jet and Spike don't need any more motivation to grab bounties than simple survival, and the added wrinkle of Jet's daughter really doesn't add much. There is one episode where Spike turns Jet's need to get things for his daughter against him to keep him from leaving a planet that Spike needs to be at but other than that (and of course getting captured in the last ep) Jet's daughter basically adds nothing.
Netflix Bebop completely fucks the Syndicate lore from the original anime, as well as rushing Vicious's coup, *and* completely castrating Vicious as a character. Half the time, Vicious does Joker-like "I make crazy faces and do dumb shit I'm so insane and unpredictable" that with the right actor could have been good but with the Vicious they have just makes the man look stupid (we audibly laughed at Vicious's face more than once, which is more than we could say for the jokes)
The other half of the time, he's a pathetic loser, with not a shred of intimidating aura on him, with a need to be respected that he never gets. Not once were we even remotely interested in him. We actively made fun of Vicious throughout, nicknaming him "Viscous" and often just lamenting how pathetic and ineffective he was.
Overall, the show wasn't as awful as I was expecting. The dynamic between Spike and Jet worked well enough, and I am a sucker for the whole "different people get together and form a non-blood family" thing. The sets looked amazing, for sure. But the Netflix show, like any Netflix adaptation, is all style with no substance. 4/10, just watch the original show lol

What most people call "nitpicks" a talented writer would call love for details.
Sure, small details don't make or break the product, but just look at any visual medium - whether it be movies, video games, comic books, cartoons, manga or anime - and you will see that the ones that stood the test of time are usually the ones with a lot of love for small details.

Instead of doing a side story, they did a fanfic. There will be no season 2. Not with this crap.
When I looked for it on Netflix, I couldn't even find it. So they already know that this is trash.
They should've released this on CW. It might be more worse than Batwoman.

Another problem with Faye is in the anime she's a gunslinging femme fatale. In the movie she's a foul mouthed lesbian martial artist because reasons. She's a female Spike who swears a lot. but hey, they got to check those boxes. Lesbian ✔️, Hispanic ✔️, strong female character ✔️ woke ✔️

Why are people surprised that Netflix butchered yet another show adaptation? It’s Netflix, they either hit or miss

It's funny, All these years I've grumbled and complained that 2D is the peek of any format only to reach the timeline where everything animated is getting live action remakes only to prove my point. Could this show have been better if not for the ULTIMATE cringe? Sure, but the anime is already that.
As a species Humanity has represented itself at the dawn of mankind with 2D cave paintings detailing epics and waifus just as we still do today, it is within our DNA to maximize our representation via drawings and no matter how much the normie menace craves to see their vanity played out on screen with live action and realistic 3D they will always feel the emptiness within that they can't explain, THAT WHICH EATS AWAY AT YOU FROM INSIDE IS YOUR SOUL SCREAMING FOR WHAT CAN ONLY BE GIVEN BY DRAWINGS!
So remake away I say, sink all their money into nonsense, let them, it only proves our point to the normies more and more, that there is no "but if only they did this" because making live action as good as animation is impossible.

I can agree and disagree. If an animation wants me to sympathize with someone on a human level it's going to have a harder time than live-action. Say a guy's tire blows on his way home from work. He's tired, he's miserable, and he's gotta change that tire. You film this scene and we watch a person struggle through a difficult situation and we can see ourselves or someone we know in the place of the character. There's nothing glamorous about it, and that's part of what helps us sympathize. The same scene either wouldn't be as affecting in animation, or would require a lot more effort (staging smaller moments to draw us into the scene, more involved camerawork, etc) to achieve the same effect. OR we could see the character's strife in an outsized way only possible in animation (the sun overhead perhaps swelling to a gigantic size as the man works, emphasizing the heat. Or the guy's fingers tying themselves into a knot only for him to blink and realize he's hallucinating, that sort of thing)
Now, on the other hand, if you wanted to make changing a tire look beautiful, or COOL AS FUCKING SHIT, animation has got you covered. That's because animation is meant to convey things that just wouldn't work in live action, and vice versa. "Anything too stupid to be said is sung," as Voltaire once opined, although I think we could more accurately replace "stupid" with "emotional." The same hold true for live action and anime. You want me to give a damn about your emotional coming of age story, either it should be live action or the protagonist should be piloting a giant mech. Otherwise, what's the point? Animation makes things beautiful, but some things need to not be beautiful if they're going to ve affecting. Anyway, this is way longer than I meant for it to be so I'm going to stop talking now

@@masterprick1 Except the entire point of the term "whitewashing" is to lambast White people being cast as non-White characters, which means the term becomes pointless when bigger roles have non-Whites cast as White characters. In other words, "whitewashing" is a term used by people who are Anti-White, to accuse a show of having a bias for White people. So accusing this show, which is blatantly Anti-White, and is made by people who are unabashedly Anti-White, of having a bias for White people is stupid, when they are clearly biased *against* White people.

Best part of the show was Jet. Spike was decent. For live-action sci-fi television, it wasn't the worst. But yeah, Cowboy Bebop never needed a remake, and this remake seriously pales in comparison to the original. Stop remaking things that don't need remakes.
Wish John Cho and Mustafa the best. See you Space Cowboy.
