Still using mine. I watch TONs of films, play video games all the time, and every couple weeks a long music session. The system is fantastic across all uses. As audiophiles will rightly say though, no system-in-a-box PC audio system is top level. You need satellites that are larger than considered convenient. The 906s lack in certain ranges. Its simplicity in setup/use and space saving is worth the tradeoffs. I have an unconventional PC setup which doesn't use a desk, so surface space is at a premium.
My Altec Lansing 641 computer speakers just conked out a few minutes ago; it served me a good 20 years. Now I'd have to find a replacement for it. And I think the z906 would be the perfect one to replace it.
I find that the 906 sounds like music played through a tin can.. Go online and find a good used Logitech Z-5500 you’ll find plenty, these out perform the 906 all away around. The sub is bigger and it also has volume boost which the 906 doesn’t have. Myself I think Logitech took 2 huge steps back when the design this unit.
@@joewatson3261 too late. got the z906 more than a week ago. you're definitely right, the satellites sound tinny and it took me quite a while to 'fix' the sound using my gaming rigs eq to up the mids a bit. The subs don't go as low as my Altec Lansing 641's and not as punchy. A bit muddy lows than what i was used to, imo.
I have Logitech Z560 and Z-2100. Both THX certified speakers from 20 years ago. Both still sound phenomenal. Only problem with them is their volume knob starts crackling loudly. Annoyingly loud too. I just use my computer’s volume adjustment. I might pick this up for the digital volume knob alone.
Why they don't add an HDMI input for direct uncompressed surround sound is beyond me. 5.1 over S/PDIF is hit or miss, and it certainly can't support newer formats. Sadly, I think everything has just gone headphones anyways.
What is important to note is that the Z906 was reissued a few years ago. The power amp was built with inferior components. The transistors burn out even at moderate volume. Mostly the front left and front right channel are affected. The cable for the decoder has been shortened, it has undergone a massive degradation overall. All who buy it from now on should know that it will not last as long as the old Z906.
Yes,I bought one and had problems with the front right speaker just after a few weeks.I got an replacement and did the same thing. When I want to play with bass even at 50% volume I have craclking in front speakers.I cant use it properly, its really frustrating.I want something as powerfull as the Z906 but I cant find anything cheap as the z906
Mine ran like a champ for 8 years. Finally lost front left channel on the amp. I've abused this thing since new and I never used the stock 5 satellite speakers. It's been running 4 Polk Audio TSi100 and matching center channel (don;t remember the model) speakers this whole time. Excellent system.
I think these guys are rather underpowered for a true surround sound setup, but they make AMAZING 2.1 PC speakers. The speakers are good-looking and unobtrusive and the sub gives them a lot of oomph for their size. They sound great at moderate near-field volumes.
In practice, I do actually use them a 2.1 speakers, since most of the media I consume is just stereo. But I do love them in surround mode with the right source like TV shows and movies!
mine lasted 2 years approx. a loud pop came from my center channel busting the subwoofer board..The center speaker is doing fine. im still using 5 speakers on a cheap yamaha receiver.
I have another model 2 speakers & subwoofer bought it around 10 years ago with my computer & works like charm still , after about 10 years bought a NEW Gen12th/ I9 desktop computer & monitor & Bought this model 5.1 version with my new computer for $400 from Amazon over blk Friday , cant believe u said paid $300 should be cheaper now, i got ripped off lol, .... but will see when all my stuffs comes & put all of them together...is REALLLY f*n GREAT brand & quality speakers & Products & this model would be really Powerful speaker system for computer, glad the system kicking it still & U happy with it about a decade pass cant wait👍
1 year ago I came across a Logitech Z906 only subwoofer and control, I had a set of speakers Harman Kardon sat ts7 which I did not use I combined them and it turned out perfect
Her Marcus, out of the bunch of videos and reviews, you were the only one straight to the point. I´m looking for a Surround system for a whle and I think I will get me this one! Thank you! From Costa Rica!🚀
II"ve had this system inside my semi truck for about 8 years stills works great and sound is best I have heard of any computer speaker system,,, my system at home is only one II have heard sound better, but that's not exactly a computer speaker system but home theater system lol
You won't regret it, I bought them 9yrs ago and this is hands down the best set of speakers I've ever bought, I run them through a Creative Z SE soundcard and the sound quality is exception, still crisp and no distortion.
I have a TV on the wall above my computer desk. Can I, also have the TV added to the speakers and change the input to watch tv with the surround sound and then when I am done watching TV, I can change the input to use the surround sound for the computer. I am new to this type of thing. I spend most of my time in the basement editing photos, looking at tv, etc... and want to set my area up as my man cave.. I have a MacBook Pro, so I am assuming there should not be any issues.
I use this on my TV. Thing is I only use the three in front, but for some reason it won't play sound that's coming "offscreen". It works when I plug in all of the speakers, but I'd rather just use three to avoid the wires across my living room
Back in 2020, I was setting up a budget home theater system, so I got a set of Z906 in 2020 for $279 (the lowest price appeared on that year was $249). Really like it. But, I had to move to another state two years later, and I decided to give them away as a gift to my then-roommate. Haven’t expected that the price never drops to this level ever again. Currently it’s $379 on Amazon. I guess the inflation really hits hard on this one. If I want to get one again, I definitely wouldn’t buy it right now (consider its age) unless the price drops to the same level as before or even more. Otherwise, I would just save more money, move on, and level up to a Dolby Atmos speaker system in a foreseeable future.
I now have the Sonos Arc sound system and absolutely love it but this Logitech system was my surround sound system for many years and holds a special place.
Mine just crapped itself and i love it so much i might get the same one again. Looking for options rn tho if anything as good or better for the money has come out.
Some HUGE pros are: DTS and Dolby Surround decoders with optical connection, compact size and good quality sound. And the biggest con is that non-sense "control console" thing, I had some different surround systems and that "control console" is so out of that world and ugly compared to other systems. Surprised that after 10 years they still doing that. And as I remember it is HARD WIRED and non detachable from the main block.
My 9 year old set just died. Two lights, and the "reset" of pressing the input button for eight seconds does nothing. It seems that a pair of resistors is probably to blame. It was great for the time, exceptional value at the price initially bought for. Not sure what to do now, as the satellite speakers themselves seem fine.
Nice soundrig you got there. I got Logitech Z-5500. Had it for well over 10 years. Sounds still amazing. Last year I bought a modern tv, 55-inch with WiFi and I saw that I could use the optical cable from my TV to the soundsystem. The sound are very crisp and watching movies are like being in a movietheatre. That's bloody amazing. But I can't live full out tho, I mean I live on the 3rd floor. One day me and some friends had BBQ-party, but no music so I opened the windows and putted the system on almost full. Well, it was daytime, no reprimands on that, but some unlucky events the landlord have been standing inside my apartment and yelled because the music was a bit high few times. "ONE MORE TIME AND I'LL KICK YOU OUT!!!" So yeah, I can't live full out with the speakersystem. It is great punch in the system I would say. A friend of mine got the same Z906 as you do. Well, I was listening on it. It is a great system, but for some reason I couldn't hear the very crisp sound I got in my system. And well, yeah his subwoofer didn't have the very very low bassresonance that I got. But it differs 2 inches on bass tho. Yours 8 and I got 10.
Z5500 was excellent. Unfortunately my control console for it bricked and I couldn't find a replacement. RIP one of the best 5.1 systems I've ever seen.
@@DrakonR Yeah, the LED on the control console are out, but it still works like a charm. Geez, I dunno. Had it for atleast 15 years I guess. Never had any problem but just the LED in the monitoring that went out. Just sat my ass down and counted the years. It is bloody 15 years this year. But well, I still got my NES 8-bit I got when I was 7. Also still working like a charm. I am 42 now, soon it will celibrate 40 years in my pecision. And no, that's the only thing in the world I never will sell in my life. I will die and demands to be buried with it. :p
Excellent video! I have a question, does it sounds the same if i use the Digital optical input, Digital coaxial input, RCA input, or is there a difference in the sound?
There are minute sound differences but unless you're an extreme audiophile you won't hear that much of a difference assuming you're using good wires for all of the inputs. The advantage of using optical for example has more to do with the fact that there's less wires than the quality of the sound (it's also probably the best sound quality too tho so there's that, and the most universal input across modern devices)
@@2MinuteReviews There is a headphone and line out, not a mic. I would love that too but most PCs don't have a Mic input on the back to go with the surround outputs. The mic is normally only accessible from the motherboard header and no one even makes a PCI blade adapter or anything to get the mic to the back of the PC. :( I use a Sound Blaster X4 USB audio DAC to get a mic input on the desk.
got these and returned them as i had the older logitec z5500 and sound from a quality, bass and loudness point of view just couldnt compete with the z5500. its been 7 years since i sold my z5500 and ended up with a katana v2. now i was hopinh to see improvements in the pc speacker market and wow there really is a huge lack of choice and i dont feel any significant improvement over the z5500. wheres the 7.1 gone?
One note, if you want better sound from your headphones do not use front controllers on your case. You should always try to use the back end connector (ideally via a discrete sound card )
I like this system too I just wish they would upgrade it to support hdmi and bluetooth audio And for them to be able to decode the next level of dolby and DTS audio. Such as Dolby True HD and DTS HD.
I do sound design for movies and tv series. You won't believe it but I use the z906 to monitor my work in 5.1 in my home studio. I love, LOVE this (was going to say little but it isn't) system. Everything sounds great in these speakers and I even use this system as a reference for mixing. I already had a pair of reference monitors which I use to eq stuff and create sounds in stereo. I needed a way to verify the 5.1 placement of sounds in the mix, and for this, I needed a 5.1 monitoring system. Buying the z906 system saved me from having to buy a discrete 5.1 professional monitoring system which would have cost me close to 6 figures! 👀. 🙏 Thank you Logitech for building this system!😅❤❤❤❤ 10/10
I considered it, but decided it would not be meaningful. In between, there would be the effect of my mic and then the viewer's speakers. So much gets lost on the way.

@@2MinuteReviews no,,, the sub only works with this logitech controller(ie controller won't plug into anything else), as for the other speakers you could use any other of same impedence
Do you get 5.1 on your PC out of them? I got told you can't have the surround sound 5.1 without an RCA connector, because AUX will keep it only 2 channel or something is this right?
@@Blockah Hey Bro, did you figure it out? I also have the colored ports u mentioned back of my motherboard? Are they enough to connect all the wires and get 5.1 surround?
@@siddu7549 Yeah they were enough I think as I recall, but I soon found out some games weren't meant to be played on 5.1 channel anyway, so that was kinda disappointing lol - Ended up selling it in the end!
Wow... my subwoofer (specifically, the sound processor) died five years later I bought them. Sadly, the impedance of the speakers is 4 Ohms, so they aren't compatible with most home theaters. The saddest part: they died just after I connected them to my new (back then) TV through optical. The only response I got from Logitech was "we don't sell parts, buy a new set".
Actually my z5500 died on me. I took it to repair shop who told me exactly the chip needed which I purchased online. Most of logitech parts were off the self parts. I had the z5500 for nearly 15 years
@moneyzonetrader HI. I bought Z906 in April 2023. I use an external sound card, to which I connected both RCA cables and a digital optical cable. On Netflix, the program should automatically play 5.1 audio: if you connect it with the digital cable, the LED at the top under DECODE automatically lights up, so you can watch the film in 5.1. I connected it to a computer in a 25m2 room, I can hear the 5.1 effect very well, that is, the sounds actually come from where the scene takes place and you can't hear them where there are no one. I mean, if the noise is only from front of you, behind you is silence and you hear rear only if there is noises behind, this means it is real 5.1 However, if you find programs, even on Netflix, that do not have 5.1 encoding, even if you have digital cable, real 5.1 will not work. At this point, I suggest to use the 3D button, which simulates 5.1 quite well. In this case, I think it is better then nothing. I hope I could help, I am italian and my english is not good. Hi
I just purchsed the Z906 but have one issue... after about an hour or so of no use (no input), the controller switches itself off. Why does it do this and how can I stop it? My Logitech Z-5500 never did this. Sometimes it refuses to turn back on again until I manually unplug the sub-woofer from the power socket. Very annoying!
@@2MinuteReviews ***UPDATE*** I found out (after a bit of research, that the Z906 has a "Standby Mode" and to disable it you press and hold down the LEVEL button on the remote until all the LED's around the Volume knob disappear, about 5 seconds. I need your help. I don't know how to connect my PC to my Z906 for a true Dolby 5.1 experience. P.S.: Which port will provide true Dolby/ 5.1 surround sound? I don't want to experience fake or simulated surround sound.
If your Motherboard has an Optical Fibre input port, then you can get true surround sound. But 3.5 mm cable can not transmit Real Surround sound audio.
How do you connect Iphone 7+ To the speakers. I have special cabel white that goes to the Iphone but I do not know where to put it in the subwoofer that will work?
You take what most people call an "aux cord" or a 3.5mm audio cable like your headphones use but it's on both ends of the wire, and you plug it into the side of the control box below the headphone jack (he shows those jacks in this video) Its that simple.
All i can say is if it brakes don't buy the newer model/revision. I had a 2011 model (which died) so i bought a 2022 model and it sounds nothing like the older one (in a bad way)

The subs don't go as low as my Altec Lansing 641's and not as punchy. A bit muddy lows than what i was used to, imo.
@@zenkizenki I have a 5500 set, and have heard a 906 set with no EQ. The 5500 satillites actually sound worse. The sub is better tho.
I've never had any issues with that volume knob. Works great!
Why they don't add an HDMI input for direct uncompressed surround sound is beyond me. 5.1 over S/PDIF is hit or miss, and it certainly can't support newer formats. Sadly, I think everything has just gone headphones anyways.
That could be a nice addition in a future model.
Thanks for adding this info! I'm happy I have the old model.
I did have the sub itself turned all the way down since I had both a 10" and 12" sub from polk audio.
Sounds like a great setup!
some of the best bang for buck speakers of all time. I just wish they would do a new version with a better sub.
Thanks for watching!
What's wrong with the sub now? It hits hard very hard.
mine is 9 years old and still works great in games
It's a great system!
I've been using this device \ system since 2020 August, and I'm fully satisfied from every angles.....
I am too. It's a great system!
I just got mine last year and I'm loving them!
It's a great system!
me too, i don't think there is anything else as good as this, and with such a deep base, nothing can compare.
It really is a great system!
mine lasted 2 years approx.
a loud pop came from my center channel busting the subwoofer board..The center speaker is doing fine.
im still using 5 speakers on a cheap yamaha receiver.
That's a shame. We should expect more than two years from a system like this.
For a system that will last a long time, it's still a decent price!
1 year ago I came across a Logitech Z906 only subwoofer and control, I had a set of speakers Harman Kardon sat ts7 which I did not use I combined them and it turned out perfect
Great solution!
Her Marcus, out of the bunch of videos and reviews, you were the only one straight to the point. I´m looking for a Surround system for a whle and I think I will get me this one! Thank you! From Costa Rica!🚀
Thank you Kevin! This really is a great sound system. I use it every day and I love it.
I have a MacBook Pro, so I am assuming there should not be any issues.
is this system already an active speakers or they need av receiver ?
I use this on my TV. Thing is I only use the three in front, but for some reason it won't play sound that's coming "offscreen". It works when I plug in all of the speakers, but I'd rather just use three to avoid the wires across my living room
I'm lucky that I can have my speakers to the side, instead of behind me, so the wires are not a problem.
Legendary speakers
I agree!
Brilliant concise review, thanks
How long is the cable between the console and Subwoofer ? Because read some saying it’s too short but yeah what’s too short…?
Had these for a few years really good love Logitech speakers also had z506 10 years about now
I'm looking at adding a home office, and am definitely looking at bringing a Logi system there as well.
I ordered it, and expecting it tomorrow! Better late than never I guess :D
I hope you will be very happy with the system!
These Logi speakers are GOD level systems man. The z623s & z906s they can be used years on years🤩🤩🤩🤩

I was happy with the price when I bought it. Must have been bak in 2011 approximately.
@@2MinuteReviewsThat was when Z906 was introduced. You got it early as a new model and it’s definitely worth it.
I now have the Sonos Arc sound system and absolutely love it but this Logitech system was my surround sound system for many years and holds a special place.
I definitely love mine!
Mine is 10 years old and still sounds as good as the day I bought it..
What a great system this is!
Mine just crapped itself and i love it so much i might get the same one again. Looking for options rn tho if anything as good or better for the money has come out.
Thanks for watching!
The control console may be an old design. But it works very well, and the volume control is very satisfying to turn!
That's a shame. Nine years is still a respectable lifespan.
Both sound like great options to me!

Excellent video! I have a question, does it sounds the same if i use the Digital optical input, Digital coaxial input, RCA input, or is there a difference in the sound?
I haven't tried. I just use the analog cables on my system.
Still an amazing sound system!!!
It sure is!
Awesome description.......straight to the point.

Can you plug in both a headset and a mic in that control console?
There are ports for both, but I've only ever tried headphones.
:( I use a Sound Blaster X4 USB audio DAC to get a mic input on the desk.
thinking getting this for my projector
It's a great choice!
got these and returned them as i had the older logitec z5500 and sound from a quality, bass and loudness point of view just couldnt compete with the z5500. its been 7 years since i sold my z5500 and ended up with a katana v2. now i was hopinh to see improvements in the pc speacker market and wow there really is a huge lack of choice and i dont feel any significant improvement over the z5500. wheres the 7.1 gone?
That's a good point about the selection available. I guess 5.1 and 7.1 is a bit of a niche market.
i have this item and still going strong but am trying to find out how powerful the headphone jack is
I don't have a way to measure that. But I do regularly use the headphone jack with my Koss Portapro, and it works great.
One note, if you want better sound from your headphones do not use front controllers on your case. You should always try to use the back end connector (ideally via a discrete sound card )
That's a good tip!
I like this system too I just wish they would upgrade it to support hdmi and bluetooth audio And for them to be able to decode the next level of dolby and DTS audio. Such as Dolby True HD and DTS HD.
That would be a great upgrade. But since it's an old model I have, I don't expect a lot.
I love their is an aux input on the console for devices that have an headphone jack or a audio out
Yes, it's a great feature to have!
I haven't actually used other Koss products, so I couldn't compare. Though I would not expect super specs at this price. But I love them!
please do a sound test comparison of Logitech z906 and LG XBOOM LHD687
Great idea! But that's not a system I have access to at the moment.
I had no clue we could change the volume of the individual speakers dammmmmmmmmmm thx ! xD

Would have loved to hear short sound demo
I considered it, but decided it would not be meaningful. In between, there would be the effect of my mic and then the viewer's speakers. So much gets lost on the way.
0:35 Why do you have a VGA cable looking thing plugged in? Don't you only need the three aux cables up top?
That cable is for the control console on my desk.
Hello sir, i have purchased Logitech Z906 yesterday after watching your video and a huge thanks for the review which you have provided was really helpful for me but i am unable to connect it to my laptop can anyone please help , thanks in advance 😊
This kind of system isn't really suitable for laptops. You may need a separate USB soundcard.
Is it possible to use different speakers & subwoofers?
I imagine so, but I haven't tried.
@@2MinuteReviews no,,, the sub only works with this logitech controller(ie controller won't plug into anything else), as for the other speakers you could use any other of same impedence
How are they selling for the price it does, if it's 10 years old?
I don't know. But I think it's a good product still!
After 9 years of excellent service, my controller is not working anymore, no sound coming up. It's gone.
Nine years is not bad! Still a great product in my mind.
the control center might be bad. those speakers are using serial port with thst controller. so an arduino with customcode might work
Do you get 5.1 on your PC out of them?
I got told you can't have the surround sound 5.1 without an RCA connector, because AUX will keep it only 2 channel or something is this right?

@@siddu7549 Yeah they were enough I think as I recall, but I soon found out some games weren't meant to be played on 5.1 channel anyway, so that was kinda disappointing lol - Ended up selling it in the end!
what did you pay when you bought it? as of today it is almost $400
I don't remember, it was over a decade ago.
i was going to buy the z906 but have read reports of the system having a overheating problem
I've heard that as well, but never experienced the problem myself. I make sure to give the sub plenty of space for airflow.
Wow... my subwoofer (specifically, the sound processor) died five years later I bought them. Sadly, the impedance of the speakers is 4 Ohms, so they aren't compatible with most home theaters. The saddest part: they died just after I connected them to my new (back then) TV through optical.
The only response I got from Logitech was "we don't sell parts, buy a new set".
Oh no, that's unfortunate.
Actually my z5500 died on me. I took it to repair shop who told me exactly the chip needed which I purchased online. Most of logitech parts were off the self parts. I had the z5500 for nearly 15 years
I there a way to set the subwoofer to auto start with your TV, Chromecast, etc? I always have to use it's own remote to turn it on so I rarely use it.
I don't know. I turn on mine manually via the console when I switch on my monitor.
Just picked this up from my local FB marketplace for US$30 - so excited to set it up this weekend for my gaming system!
Great choice!
sir i have pc with 4k samsung monitor and motherboard with optical in. Can i enjoy netflix in real 5.1 system with with speakers? plz help thanks
I would imagine so, but I haven't tried the optical connection on my setup.
Hi
How can I connect this speakers to my pc and tv at same time?
There are several different connections on the back you can use.
@@2MinuteReviews thank you. I will look into it. 😇
Does this work for TV?
Depends on the connectors you have on your TV. But I haven't tried it.
Definitely not supposed to do that. Contact the retailer and have it fixed.
I use the three cables between the sub and the sound outputs on my motherboard.
do you need amplification ?
No it's built-in. I just connect the 3 audio cables from my PC: front speakers, rear speakers and center/sub.
My Logitech Z906 keeps shutting off, console panel keeps shutting off. Does anyone know why this happens?
I haven't had that problem.
My 5 speaker not working just hear sound on 1 speaker why it happening?
I never had that problem. Maybe you only connected one cable from the PC?
How do you connect Iphone 7+ To the speakers. I have special cabel white that goes to the Iphone but I do not know where to put it in the subwoofer that will work?
I think you need one that separates into left and right channel if you want to connect to the sub.
You take what most people call an "aux cord" or a 3.5mm audio cable like your headphones use but it's on both ends of the wire, and you plug it into the side of the control box below the headphone jack (he shows those jacks in this video)
Its that simple.
All i can say is if it brakes don't buy the newer model/revision. I had a 2011 model (which died) so i bought a 2022 model and it sounds nothing like the older one (in a bad way)
That's good advice. I hope mine will survive for a few more years!

Hi Markus,
The other day a little black plastic clip on the back of the sub where one of the front left wire connects broke when trying to release it to move them. Do you know how i would fix this so that i can connect it again? Or do i have to throw the whole system out?

Ok. Thanks anyway
The control console died and I cant buy another one anywhere. Anyone knows where? p.s. Logitech service dos not reply to questions. :(
