Little tip. When finding where to put the Sub don't just put it where you like the look place it in all 4 corners testing one at a time then try some others places. If you have a friend or partner to help ask them to come in the room each time and close their eyes and tell you where they think the bass is coming from. You want to get it in a place that makes it impossible to tell where the sub bass is coming from. If you place on the left in front of you and its easy to tell its there then keep trying. Once you have it in a place that makes it impossible to judge where the bass is coming from then you will be getting the best experience possible.
Just set this system up with the Sony AV receiver ( STR-DH790 ) and a set of Micca RB42X which I used as my fronts. Makes an awesome 5.1.2 system and the subwoofer is incredibly powerful. I have it set at about 10 o’clock on the sub and negative 2 in my receiver and it vibrates everything in the living room. For an 8” sub it’s really hard to believe it puts out that much power. Even my installer couldn’t believe the quality of sound for such a low profile set. Great accurate review. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What do you think about Polk Audio OWM3 ? If 5 speaker with sub ? ,,, does the sound will be better than klipsch reference pack ? Because Polk Audio OWM3 have bigger speakers size
How much better quality and sound compared to the Visio 5.1.4 soundbar system. Leaning towards this pack and pairing with the denon avr s750 from Costco.
Keep leaning that way, my friend. 😀 I’m a firm believer that a good ol’ fashioned receiver+wired passive speakers is always a better option in the long run. More work up front to get it all hooked up, but more reliable and more powerful. That Denon is a great value, too. 🙌
Thanks for the input ordered the klipsh 5.1 and denon waiting on some speaker wire from Amazon to set it up! I need to order some stands from Amazon for the 4 satellites. I’m waiting for the klipsh bookshelves to go on sale at Costco to go 7.1.2. So was wondering what stands would hold the satellites for now then when I upgrade they would hold the bookshelves. Just wondering if u had any recommendations! Ty loving the channel!
@@MastiffRonin Yeesh...speaker stands are tricky, cuz most are ridiculously expensive for some reason. I'll leave a link to some on Amazon that might work. Otherwise, if you're handy and like doing DIY stuff, you might wanna build some nice wooden stands eventually. :) amzn.to/3xz6jQ7
Nice video dude! I got this same package back in November and I still find myself fine tuning the settings for it (never ends, I swear). I was wondering what you set your speaker levels to in your AVR settings? I know each person's setup will vary with distances and all, but I was just curious. My LCR are about 10-11ft away and my surrounds are about 8ft from my seating position.
I bought these speakers, 100ft 14 awg wire on Amazon, and a Sony STR-DH790, all for a total of $600. Best sound system I’ve ever owned, every sound is crystal clear and the bass is so perfect 🥲
Sorry, I have no idea. I’ve never reviewed the Logitech before. But one thing the Logitech has is more versatility, since you can plug it directly into a PC or TV. The Klipsch system has to be powered by a receiver.
Hello Ealan and fellow audio enthusiast. I'm hoping to get feedback/opinion. I’m a beginner and recently purchased this Klipsch Reference Theatre pack 5.1($350) and the 7.2 Onkyo TX-NR6050 av receiver($430) both on sale from Costco, still in the box. I’m planning to get some bookshelf speakers like the Klipsch R-41M or R-51M to use as my fronts to set up a 5.1.2 system. The other day I noticed this Klipsch Reference Cinema System 5.1.4 with Dolby Atmos on sale for $399 at my local Costco. I’m tempted to get the Cinema pack and return the Theatre pack. Can the Cinema pack be used as a 5.1.2 due to my 7 channel receiver? Also which of these 2 budget setups would you choose/recommend, an actual 5.1.2 from the Theatre pack or the Cinema 5.1.2? Or can we cancel out the Cinema pack’s atmos and use 2 actual height speakers? Lastly, which sub do you think is better, the 8” downward firing or the 10” front firing sub? Thanks in advance, I really enjoy your channel and congrats once again on your recent milestone.
The Cinema pack’s speakers are deceptively large (and the subwoofer is bigger), so if you want bigger, go with that. And if possible, I would go with separate height speakers instead of using the Cinema pack’s upward firing speakers for Atmos effects. They’re okay, but mounting actual speakers up high is far superior, if that fits in your budget.
@@ealanosborne Thanks for your response bro, this channel is freakin awesome. Sounds like the cinema's system bigger speakers really are better than the theater pack satellites (not shitting on the 5.1). What budget speakers would you recommend to add for the rear heights on the cinema system? Or maybe use 2 of the Cinema's satellites for heights and add bookshelf speaker like Klipsch R-41M/ R-51M for fronts?
Are you still happy with the klipsch reference system? What AVR do you feel that would best pair up with this system. Keep in mind I would like to add two maybe four height speaGers (LOL) at a later time. Also Marantz makes slimmer AVR with less watts per channel at a lower cost than the regular Marantz costing over a thousand and higher. Would you recommend a slimline less watt Marantz over a Denon or Yamaha AVR. I want to start with a 5.1 setup then slowly build to a 5.2.2 or 5.2.4 or 7.2.2. Please let me know your thoughts.
An interesting thing I’ve noticed is that manufacturers aren’t selling budget 9 channel receivers anymore (less than $1,000). I got my Onkyo TX-NR787 a few years ago for $499 after watching the price like a hawk, then jumping on it when it went on sale. But all manufacturers have discontinued that tier of receiver. No idea why. But the Denon x3700h is the best/least expensive I could find that was 9 channel, but still costs $1,200. Since you wanna go up to a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2, you’ll need 9 channels eventually, so might as well make that investment up front? There is a Marantz similar to the Denon that costs $1,699. Yikes! But of course that’s gonna be an amazing receiver. I’d stick with the big beefy receivers, as opposed to slim line, since you want to upgrade eventually. If you just wanted to stick with a 5.2.2 with small satellite speakers, a slimline would be fine. My Reference Theater Pack I still thoroughly enjoy. It’s good for me for now. I might upgrade my satellites to some SVS Primes down the line. There’s a chance we might be moving to a larger property 3 years or so from now, at which point I’d want to have a dedicated home theater room. Then I’d upgrade everything slowly. But for now? No need to upgrade my current home theater TOO much more. 😄
Ealan Osborne -thanks, For the advice. It really helps me to focus in what direction to go. I kept flip flopping between old school 5.1 or go with the Sonos Arc bundle. Is there a way to private send you something? I got a proposal through Best Buy and wanted to get your opinion on it. Or you can reach me at sal732s@yahoo.com
Update: So I set this up and it's great! Sounds better than my $1800 Samsung Soundbar at a fraction of the price; especially superior is the clarity, voices, and wider front stage. Question: at 2:35 you said to set the crossover to 110-120hz. What happens my Denon AVR set it to 90 after calibration? Should I change it?
Hello Elan. Thanks for the video. I took your advice, bought this theater pack, got a pair of R-41M for front L&R and used those two satellites for Atmos. Been two years, very happy. Now I want to upgrade the center speaker (keep R-41M as L&R), any recommendations? Klipsch R-52C?
Ah the lo pass thing. Should I change it? What do you mean it sets the crossover manually? I had Jonathan leave it on full out LFE. But 120 and I think 80 were choices.
Yeah, I’d leave it full out LFE, which is typically a crossover of 120 Hz. That’s best for this little system since the satellite speakers can only handle frequencies as low as 110 Hz, so setting speaker and subwoofer crossovers to 120 Hz is ideal, so that the speakers and subwoofer are all on the same page. Speakers handle everything from 120 Hz and up, and subwoofer handles 120 Hz and below. 👍
You are, BY FAR, the best content creator I've seen in a looooong time... and I watch HOURS of UA-cam. Your delivery... SPOT ON!! SUBSCRIBING FROM NJ!!!
Hi Ealan, I was wondering if the center speaker is the same as a sound bar, and if not, do you recommend using one with this system? Thanks for the info and love your videos.
The nice thing about this system over a soundbar is that you aren’t confined to the width of the soundbar itself. You can make the left, center and right speakers as close or far apart as you want. But using a soundbar just for a center channel? I don’t think that’s done easily, and I don’t think it would improve the situation all that much anyway.
Great video! I’m curious. I own this Klipsch Reference Home Theater Pack 5.1 system. Do you recommend toe or no toe in for surround speakers with this system?
These days, it’s good to invest in a 7 channel AVR to give you the ability to expand in the future. Sony STR-DH790, Denon s760s, Denon x2700h, Onkyo 6100 depending on your budget. 🙌
Oh daaaaang! The gauntlet has been thrown! 😄🤘 Don’t forget a receiver - this speaker system doesn’t plug directly into a TV. Something like the Sony STR-DH790 or Onkyo TX-NR5100 is usually what I recommend since it’ll give you 2 extra channels for when you want to expand to a 7 channel system. 👍
@@ealanosbornefast response and I just subscribed because of that! I picked up a Denon AVR S760H at Costco and also getting Atmos Sony Speakers (SSCSE). 😁
@@XenomorphLV426 Oh hell yeah, well there ya go! 😄 I’ve had people in the past not realize you needed a receiver to power the speakers, so I just wanted to be sure. 🤘
My husband just bought one of those with 700 dollars?!?! I’m confused, now. Anyway he said that the company didn’t had the wires for the speakers?! I thought is completely wireless! We don’t know how to proceed or connect all those 4 speakers!!?? Some advice please!
This speaker bundle requires an AV receiver to power the speakers, since the speakers themselves are passive (non-powered). They do not plug directly into a TV. I recommend 14 gauge speaker wire to connect these speakers to an AV receiver. I also recommend a 5.1 channel AV receiver to power the speakers, like a Sony STR-DH590, Yamaha RX-V385, or Pioneer VSX-534 as a few examples.
Thanks so much for your help. My hubby bought the Yamaha receiver also but we still have to buy the wires for the speakers. It's very inconvenient in some ways, in my opinion, if we set up the speakers in tge walls we will have wires all over the places, anyway, would be great if those would be wireless, lol
I bought this when I first got back into home theater and honestly for a all in one it’s a great system especially on sale . I think it’s one of the better htib systems out there . Grab yourself a budget avr and you could be up and running for 600-700 bucks that’s a good deal for everything and a good starting system . I eventually returned it though and bought a full klipsch rp series 5.1 but sold that as well lol now I have svs ultras
For sure! I had the Denon S540BT receiver for a hot minute, and it was great for a 5.1 system, especially in these modern times with its Bluetooth music streaming, 4K pass through, and smart phone control via an app. Did its job well for less than $300!
@@ealanosborne hey thoughts on using this with acoustimass 15? I want to use these satellites with the bass module since the Bose cubes aren't that good
Yes, for the most part. Sometimes it’s just wind, reflections of voices, rain, music, etc. And then at times sound effects like ships passing by, or bullets. So yeah, always active to varying degrees 👍
This is what I got. Amazing so far! Although you might not need 200 ft. They sell different lengths. Hi, I'm currently using the Polk audio Magnifi SR 5.1 System, would the upgrade to the klipsch have a noticeable improvement in the home theater experience?
Yes, this would be an improvement over a sound bar. But since this Klipsch system is a traditional wired speaker system, you would need an AV receiver to power them. Like a Denon S650h or Yamaha RX-385 or Sony STR-DH590
@@ealanosborne Thank You, since I don't live in the US , the reference pack+ shipping charges come around 600 to 700$ , do you think its worth the cost?
Does this require a receiver and if so which budget receiver does Dolby atmos? Speaking of which can you add 2 more speakers for atmos? Does this support THX/atmos?
I literally go over your question in my other video about piecing together a budget Atmos system. Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/eUHwoqeeAKc/v-deo.html
So, I get that this system thumps, but the big problem I have with my 5.1 system is not hearing dialogue. Admittedly, I have some acoustic challenges in my home...namely that it's an apartment with the HVAC exhaust right next to my damn TV. And there are limits to how much I can turn my system up because of the neighbors on the other side of the wall. But the biggest thing I care about is dialogue. Why is this such a problem now? How does this system perform for being able to hear people talk?
It does pretty well, considering it’s Klipsch, which is most known for its “bright” characteristics. But it’s not just you. It’s quite the well-known issue these days, having dialog less intelligible. I use subtitles pretty much all the time now when watching movies and TV shows with my family. Just curious, have you ever considered a wireless headphone system? Like the Sennheiser RS 175? Im trying to get my hands on that system to see how good it is with movie watching. 🤷♂️
I haven’t heard the Z906. Although the Z906 is a simple way to connect a PC to some surround sound. This Klipsch system requires a receiver to power the speakers, so it’s more of a baseline to grow a traditional wired surround sound system. 👍
@@ealanosborne I was thinking of making a 5.1 system with the Klipsch R-51M speakers and the R-100sw from Klipsch, what you think about that? I have a denon receiver
Hi Ealan thanks for the review! Im thinking to buy this but first wanted to know if you think it is worth upgrading to the fluance elite compact for 500$.
Thanks! Well, the Fluance I’ve never experienced in person. BUT…on paper it looks to be superior to the Klipsch system: Bigger speakers, bigger, more powerful subwoofer, bookshelf style speakers instead of rounded little satellites, etc. If your listening space is medium sized to medium-large, I think the Fluance is worth the extra cash. But again, that’s just me looking at the specs online. So take that with a grain of salt.😄
Correct. Denon s650h or 660h, Yamaha rx-v385, Sony dh590 for 5 channel are great. Or a 7 channel receiver if you want to add 2 more speakers later, like the Denon s750h (or s760h with a Costco membership), Yamaha rx-v6a, Sony dh790. 👍
Yo Ealan. My nephew finally set the system up. So on the Sub there's a faze thing. What's that do and what's it for? Also the power switch has auto or on. What's auto do?
Hi! Phase is just if maybe there’s some boomy issues or not enough bass due to the location of the sub. Try testing it with phase at 0 and 180 degrees and see if there’s a difference. It might not do anything, or maybe it makes an improvement after all. 😁 “Auto” means it will be on “standby” mode when not in use, then kick on if it detects low frequencies. “On” just means it’s always on. 🤘Happy listening!
Hello from Chile! What is the ranking order of sound quality among the Klipsch Reference Theater Pack (5.1), Klipsch Reference Cinema System (5.1.4), and this Jamo S 803 package with the Jamo S 808 subwoofer?
Buenos dias! I haven’t personally heard the Jamo set, but I would say it is very similar to the 5.1.4 Cinema System since Klipsch also owns the Jamo brand. But the Jamo set is definitely better looking, compared to the typical black speakers of Klipsch. So I would say Jamo is best, since it sounds great and LOOKS better too! 😁🤘
Hay Ealan I was going toget these as you know for My Onkyo TX-SR 373. But Amazon has the cinema with Atmos 1s for $300 80 something. Now the 373 obviously isn't 9 channal. That being said as they are better speakers minus the 4 atmos channals should I be theoritically able to connect those to the 373?
Oh most definitely! Speakers are speakers, so you can still connect the 5.1.4 Cinema System to your Onkyo. On each of the 4 main speakers, there are two sets of speaker terminals - one set for the main speaker, one set for the Atmos speakers, so you just don’t need to connect the Atmos speakers. Easy! 😁
can I use the Costco Yamaha TSR-700 7.2 / RX-V6A ?? I just bought both of them....the Klipsch speaker pack at $120 off started today and the Yamaha is $70 off. ... I also bought the Klipsch R-51M book shelf speakers to take advantage of the 7.2 surround of the Yamaha....any thoughts? comments?
Yeah, you’re the second person to mention they got the tsr-700 since it’s on sale at Costco. I read the specs and it sounds like an awesome receiver. I have another video about getting a budget Atmos setup from scratch that includes the R-41M speakers too! So you’re on the right track!
Hello, thank you for the review and information. I've had an Onkly DTR 5.5 receiver only ever connected to my dated Bose AM5 which still sound incredible. But time has come to replace with a 5.1 set of speakers. I found this set and made a purchase via Amazon (expected delivery this week) since Costco was out of stock. The set should be more than sufficient to improve what we had previously in our family room, really looking forward to hearing it all. Once again, thank you ... very helpful info, well done!
How durable is the sub? I set it to 50 percent on the gain and it is insane how boomy it is, almost makes me worry about blowing it out during a big explosion haha
I did the same when I used this system. Set the dial to 50%, sometimes even only ~30%. Unfortunately since it’s fairly cheap, the box itself can’t handle its own strength, hence how quickly it can get boomy. But it sure beats no sub at all! 😄🤘
@@ealanosborne Yeah I dialed it back 5db in my receiver just to be safe, it still packs a punch but now I don't feel like it'll blow out. Now I'm just trying to set my other parameters. I have this pack, with a 2 up-firing atmos speakers, and a 7 channel Yamaha receiver. So far its very impressive besides war scenes. When watching force awakens, the scene where the storm troopers invade the village is underwhelming during the assault, great after the assault, and then when we cut to rey in the ship it sounds amazing. Not sure why that is but I'm working to fix it, also the usual differences in volume from scene to scene aren't perfectly fixed by the reciever but its all in the process👍
For the piece, yes, it’s a great little entry level system, and is surprisingly powerful and detailed with how little the speakers are. Music sounds pretty good too!
Good video. I am planning to get this and bookshelf 2 speakers to add them as front left and right and the surround speakers for a 5.1.2 setup. Also, planning to buy a denon S750H. What do you think about this setup?
I literally have another video talking about almost the exact setup. And yes! Get the Denon. If you have (or know someone who has) a Costco membership, that Denon S750h is on a ridiculous sale until Nov 19th! ($320!) ua-cam.com/video/eUHwoqeeAKc/v-deo.html
Sony STR-DH790 for budget, but if you can spend a little more, the Sony STR-DN1080 is better, or the Denon AVR-S650H on the same level as the Sony, if any happen to be on sale
Yes, it is a traditional wired system that needs to be powered by a receiver. You can get away with 16 gauge wire, but I usually go for 14 since it’s a little more resilient, although a tad pricier.
Thanks again for this video. I went to my Costco they had ordered a bunch left over from Christmas. I got it for 299.99 as they are blowing them out because they have so many left. Can't wait to hook them up.
So how are they?? I need new speakers for my Onkyo TX-SR 373 and I did touch them at Costco. I'm blind by the way. So yeah they feel cool. Now they had them unplugged from the demo shelf. So couldn't press the demo button to hear the,m. Does the sub really vibrate the room like a car sub would? I mean the kinda vibration he described is car stuff my guy. I wouldn't be surprised even though it only goes to 38 Hz cause I have heard some other Klipsch subs at Costco and brugh they hella sound like a car sub. What AVR did you use with them?
Question for you, it used to be that you knew that 8ohm was for home use and 4 ohm where for car audio. I ordered 5 home theater speakers, but after the fact I noticed that they where 6 ohm speakers. The home theather amplifier ( I just got a yamaha tsr-700 from costco ) I think it can handle different ohm loads. Will using the 6 ohm amp have any effect? do you prefer 8 ohm? whats the deal here?
Oh sure, that Yamaha will still be fine. And even if you had 4 ohm nominal speakers, it would still be fine. It's just better for 4 ohm speakers to have more power driven through them. 6 ohm is still close enough to 8 ohm that it's not gonna matter much.
Of course! 👍 That’s how I hooked it up, with an RCA subwoofer cable. I’ve messed with the wireless capability a few times and it worked flawlessly. But I still prefer to keep it wired.
Im so frustrated, I bought the klipsch theatre pack 5.1 And can't figure out how to make it work or connect the speakers. No videos on youtube. Can you help?
This is a basic tutorial on how to do it. It’s not the theater pack specifically, but the gist is the same. Hope this helps! ua-cam.com/video/qkiyLe2zSSc/v-deo.html
Hi, I have denon 7.1 receiver and klipsch 5.1 reference pack. I want to add 2 in-ceiling Klipsch speakers. Can you plz suggest what goes best with this setup I have. Thanks...
You sure can! A speaker is a speaker. It just depends on if your receiver can decode Dolby Atmos and has at least 7 channels. 😀👍 Then you can put speakers wherever you need to.
Do the satellite speakers plug into the sub? I would like this set but don't want to run speaker cable from the satellite speakers by the seating area to the receiver.
They do not plug into the sub. That’s typical with most soundbars these days. But there are fairly cheap 2 channel rear speaker RF wireless kits to make the surrounds wireless. I’ve never personally tried it, so I’m not sure if there’s a better brand over another, so just Google it. 👍
I got the Refrence pack. But oops either I forgot or mine didn't come with wires. Is there a particular gage my nephew Jon should look for? I guess it's gage. But I mean how fat or thin and so on?
@@ealanosborne Ah okay 14. I'll tell him then. After we hook it up and I've used some lightsaber duels to make sure Jon got the channals right I'll try that Quitij seen from chanber of Secrets. I've listened to each of the 6 WAV files of it via my pro media Klipsch speakers for PC. The $120 ones. I got them at Costco. But yeah I'll try that. Ah the wav file thing. I rip my own DVDs with a share ware called DVD Audio Extractor. If you do it in WAV you get choices. You can do it in Stereo which is the default so you can listen to it on an audio player. Mono I don't know why. But then you can do 6 channal. Now we get nifty. Either a 5.1 WAV you can load on something and play Via your AVR or the real cool cat thing is tell it to save each channal to it's own WAV file. Bam you'll know now what comes from each speaker. It numbers the files even. It's 1 threw 6 and 4 onbviously is the sub. I got it to in a messed up way cause it was on an old 90s PC rip the HD Master track of a Blu-Ray. It was 1 threw 7 then cause the disk was 1 of those 6.1 movies.
I'm actually planning to buy the same. Then upgrade one step at a time. Do you think it would be possible to upgrade this to a 5.1.2 Atmos setup? I'm not really familiar how to setup Home theater. What I'm planning is to buy these speakers then upgrade the two front satellite speakers with a Klipsch RP-600M book shelf speakers. Then I'll be placing the satellite speaker on my ceiling instead. I'm not sure if it is possible though. Will the sound be unbalanced? since RP-600M seems to be a pretty powerful speaker.
Astro Tomato One step at a time is what I’ve been doing as well. And that’s actually a great idea, using the front satellites as the eventual height speakers! Since the heights are generally where music and atmospheric/ambient sound effects live in an Atmos system, the RTP satellites are more than capable of handling those types of sounds. Way to think creatively!
Dude! So crazy you posted this, I literally moved this same package to my Costco shopping cart a couple days ago. Haven't pulled the trigger on a purchase yet😅, but leaning towards it. Was also considering the Denon receiver from Costco, (the only one they sell apparently 🤔 ) What do you think of those? What's a good budget amp or receiver that would suffice?
That Denon is great! At one point, I had a 5.1 Denon Receiver comparable to the one Costco sells, and it was very nice. Quality 4K video pass-through, excellent audio, good connectivity thru mobile apps, etc. DO IT! 😄
@@chronot1342 Probably the Onkyo. It's got just a touch more power than the Denon, although their room calibration software isn't as good as Audyssey (which comes with Denon), so you might be doing a tad more manual corrections. But pound for pound, Onkyo over Denon just by a hair. But the last thing to consider is music. Yamaha is a clear winner when it comes to a great hybrid home theater/music receiver. And the Yamaha makes it MUCH easier to create a whole home music listening experience all controlled by the TSR-700 (if that's something you're into). Otherwise: 1) Onkyo 2) Denon 3) Yamaha
Would you think pairing these with a set of ceiling Atmos speakers would be a good idea? This one seems better suited for my reciever than going with the Cinema series you also reviewed.
Oh sure! Atmos specifications are kind of similar to the specs of the little speakers in the Klipsch Theater Pack, so using this system as part of an Atmos system is totally doable! 👍
Even though the Klipsch Ref Theater Pack needs to be hooked up to a receiver to work, I still think a receiver+Klipsch discrete surround sound system beats a soundbar system in the same price range since you get a larger sound stage than the fairly narrow stage you get with a soundbar. And the subwoofer that comes with the Klipsch system is just so powerful! Just my opinion, though! 😀
Yes, you will need a receiver to power this speaker system. Denon s650H or Sony STR-DH590 are good. Or if you want to have extra channels in case you want to upgrade to an Atmos system later, check out Sony STR-DH790 or DN1080, or Denon S750H, or Yamaha TSR-700. 🙌
Not a dumb question! 😀 Yes, you do need a receiver. Sony STR-DH590, Denon AVR-S650H are a couple good ones. Or if you want to have 7 channels (so you have the option to add 2 more speakers later), Sony STR-DH790, Denon AVR-S750H, Yamaha RX-V6A 👍
... It's an okay setup. If you're an audiophile I wouldn't recommend, it's decent but there is much to be desired. But hey, $300 isn't bad for what your getting. Just don't expect to be blown away

It evens out the low frequencies throughout the room. 👍
Thanks! And yes, you’ll need a 5.1 channel receiver or some sort of amplifier to power these passive speakers. And this Klipsch theater pack doesn’t come with wireless speakers, so you’ll need speaker wire to pass the audio signal from your amp to these speakers. I personally have a media closet where my receiver is, then I cut holes out and fished speaker wire behind my walls so I could mount these speakers on the walls in my living room with minimal wires being seen. I prefer satellite speakers compared to sound bars, since they give you a more discrete, detailed sound stage, but I understand the sleek aesthetic look of a nice sound bar. Good luck! 👍
@@ealanosborne Thank you! This is some great information. Honestly, I would have just bought the set and later realized I needed an amp. But I do agree on you detailed sound stage. Either way, I plan on getting a set of Klipsch whenever I move out of my rental and start owning my own home. Thanks for the quick reply!
Ealan, great video very informative! I know nothing about sound systems so please excuse my ignorance, but I heard you mention connecting the system to a receiver… is this a piece of equipment that you need to make this HOme theater system work or is it a standalone system?
That’s correct. You do need a receiver to power these speakers. Pretty much any intro receiver will suffice - Denon s650h, Sony STR-DH590, Yamah RX-V385. 👍
Would you recommend getting a better klipch center speaker like the R-52C and a pair of floor standing R-610F for a semi budget 7.1 system or is the center speaker not much of an upgrade ?
@@ealanosborne I already have a receiver that will do 7.1 at least. It's about 2 yrs old. I've gotta check the model number but it was a pretty decent one 2 years ago

Hey buddy it's me again I had a question to ask because I'm about to do in wall speakers on my surround sound on the advice that you gave me and I saw what he had some in-walled subwoofers have you ever tried those or do you recommend them or anything like that plus I never prescribed to patreon but I think I should cuz you give some damn good advice handle you know in the theaters system and stuff thanks
I've never experienced in-wall subwoofers before, but I'm sure they're good to some degree! It might not perform the best compared to a normal subwoofer since they have to be pretty slim/narrow to fit inside a wall, but depending on your room, it might be perfect! 🤷♂
Can this plug in directly to use with a laptop without using a receiver? My trusted Aiwa NSX-MT960 of 23 years finally crapped out on me. This old thing would really rock the house down at even 1/2 volume levels.
Unfortunately not. These are passive speakers, so they need to be powered by the internal amps of a receiver. And these need to hook up to a receiver with speaker wires, so there’s not really a way to interface directly with a laptop.
@@ealanosborne OK, thanks. I think I'm going with the Yamaha 4950UBL. It comes with 6 speakers and the receiver for just under 500 bucks. Then I'll be back in business.
Depending on the receiver you use to power it, yes. Almost all receivers nowadays can stream audio via wifi or Bluetooth through whatever speakers you have connected to them. 👍
Do you think this would work well with 17ft. tall ceilings in a very open living room? I keep seeing this set pop up but I wonder if I need something just a little bigger.
My living room is roughly 18x18 with 10’ ceilings, open concept into the kitchen, and my Reference Theater Pack does pretty well. Sure, I’ll be upgrading them some day since it is such a large room, but it’s pretty remarkable that these little speakers still handle big sound in such a small package.

I'm soo excited. I am eagerly waiting for my 5.1 Klipsch setup to arrive. It only costed me ~300 bucks (I think 320 after taxes). Great deal. I tried the Sonos 5.1 setup with their sub, their new white sound bar and 2 rear speakers and it was soo underwhelming. I immediately returned it despite trying to move the sub in different settings. I think Sonos is for people who are not audiophiles. I hope this thing is better then the Sonos.
When it was my main home theater setup, it did the job much better than I was expecting. But I’ve upgraded since then. But that’s the beauty of starting a foundation with a receiver+wired speakers - upgrading over time! 🤘
@@ealanosborne definitely. It's a decent starter speaker set for me. Adorama was running a black Friday sale hence the only reason I bit the bullet. Initially only ordered the speakers (sub, and 4 "wireless" speakers that make it a 5.1). Later today I cancelled my ordered and reorder ed to include the receiver from some brand called Onkyo. The total there was $628. I figured if I'm going to get my first starter set, might as well get the proper setup.
@@ealanosborne reading reviews for this guy, it's apparent that I'm gonna need cables for the "wireless speakers" is that true? So only the sub is completely wireless it seems. Hmm slight bummer. If you could share where you got your cables, I'd be forever grateful.
@@AteebTallaat Oh, yes…it’s just the sub that’s wireless. Here’s a link to some nice 14-gauge wire. Not sure how much you need, though. You could also get away with 16-gauge if it’s cheaper for you. But I suggest 14-gauge now, since it’s stronger and thicker for any future upgrades 👍 amzn.to/3cOMwmD
On paper, they’re actually pretty comparable. The Klipsch satellites are slightly bigger and go down to 110 Hz as opposed to the Canton’s 120 Hz. I know personally how impressive Klipsch’s subwoofer is, but I’m not sure about the Canton’s. It’s nice that the Canton system comes with its own wall mounts. But also since Canton seems to be European, I guess shipping would be a big factor, depending on where you live. I’ve heard it’s ridiculously expensive to ship Klipsch outside the U.S. So if you live in Europe, the Canton is a solid purchase. If you live in the U.S., Klipsch for sure. You can find it much cheaper at certain times of the year. 👍
Hey man! Great video and sound effects ahaha A question: Between a onkyo ht-s3910 and these speakers, what you would recommend buy today? I'm a gamer, music and movie user and have a Samsung Q80T waiting the next gen console. Thanks 🙌
Thanks so much for the compliments, Richard! For a 5.1 system, I would personally avoid any HTIB that also comes with its own receiver (like the Onkyo HT-s3910). It usually means the internal components of the receiver are pretty cheap. I would recommend getting the Klipsch Reference Theater Pack, the Denon AVR-S650H, and some 14 gauge speaker wire from Amazon. It costs more up front, but it'll last you a lot longer and give you better performance. As far as an Atmos system is concerned, you'll usually need to spend at least $800 and get a receiver that's at least 7.1 channel. I'm actually releasing another video next week reviewing 2 budget Dolby Atmos soundbar systems, so those might be an option for you too! Be on the look out for that when it comes out! :)
@@ealanosborne Woo thanks for the quick answer 😁 and explain me in detail what's better Ealan. OK, I need help then. I have this htip, a Denon avr s660h, and an LG TV with both optical and ARC. I cannot for the life of me, get it to sound decent. I did the auto setup with the mic, and it still sounds like garbage. Please help!
You can use a 5.1 receiver like the Denon AVR-S650H or the Sony STR-DH590. But say you'd maybe want to expand to a 7.1 channel speaker setup sometime in the future? Get a 7 channel receiver like the Denon AVR-S750H or Sony STR-DH790 to leave you the option of expansion. Thanks for your question, and thanks for watching, LaVonna!
Honestly, with regards to the Enclave, it comes down to personal preference and/or how your home theater space is set up. You can get the Klipsch Ref Theater Pack, Denon S650BT and 14 gauge speaker wire for roughly the same price as an Enclave II. But with the Enclave, each speaker still leaves you tethered to a wall since they’re powered and need an electrical outlet nearby. But if you have bookshelves or something to hide the power cables, sweet! I’ve actually never experienced WiSA technology personally, but I’ve heard great things! I trust the sound quality is excellent, but me personally, I like the control I have over each speaker (EQ and volume level) with passive speakers and a good AV receiver, and being able to hide most of the wire behind my walls. I would love to review the Enclave, tho! Hopefully once this channel blows up, Enclave will wanna send me new toys to review. 😄👍 Tell all your friends! And thanks for your question!
@@ealanosborne I wish there was some other model for product reviews, if Enclave sponsors the video 😅 won't have so much confidence then, thanks for your video it does help especially the part where you explained the scene and the sound parallel. Good luck!!

Sony STR-DH590, or Denon AVR-S650H. Or if you find a great deal, Sony STR-DH790 or Denon AVR-S750H which are 7 channel receivers, in case you decide to add 2 speakers at a later time. 👍
@@ealanosborne thanks man! I didn't expect a quick answer but you provided. : ) I too saw these at Costco yesterday and decided it might be time to upgrade from a sound bar.

How do you only have 6K subs? Great humor, great review!

Nice video dude! I got this same package back in November and I still find myself fine tuning the settings for it (never ends, I swear). Klipsch Black Reference Theater Pack 5.1 and Logitech Z906 5.1 Which one better ?
Sorry, I have no idea. I’ve never reviewed the Logitech before. But one thing the Logitech has is more versatility, since you can plug it directly into a PC or TV. The Klipsch system has to be powered by a receiver.

I know they aren’t meant for music but when you play music on them is it good sounding?
I think so! Crisp high frequencies, lyrics come through nice and bright, and that subwoofer shakes the room with bass heavy tracks. 🤘
Question: at 2:35 you said to set the crossover to 110-120hz. What happens my Denon AVR set it to 90 after calibration? Should I change it?
Yeah, since the satellite speakers only go down to 110 Hz, I’d put it back to that, or even 120 Hz, and set the subwoofer crossover to 120 Hz too. 👍
Yes! I’d say that would be a good upgrade without spending too much money, but keeping your speakers timbre-matched. 🤘

@@ealanosborne Thanks very much!

Love the video. What avr would you recommend for this setup
These days, it’s good to invest in a 7 channel AVR to give you the ability to expand in the future. Sony STR-DH790, Denon s760s, Denon x2700h, Onkyo 6100 depending on your budget. 🙌

Have you ever tried the z906 from Logitech? How you think they sound compared to this Klipsch?
I haven’t heard the Z906. Although the Z906 is a simple way to connect a PC to some surround sound. This Klipsch system requires a receiver to power the speakers, so it’s more of a baseline to grow a traditional wired surround sound system. 👍

Oh yeah a 90 RCA adapter is fine. There shouldn’t be any signal degradation, as long as they’re gold plated adapters. 🙌
Do you need a receiver if I wanted to buy this sound system ?

“Auto” means it will be on “standby” mode when not in use, then kick on if it detects low frequencies.
Easy! 😁
@@ealanosborne Ah okay. They are labeled right? if not I assume the set for the Atmos 1s are on top.
which klipsch subwoofer would be a great pairing for this set?

can I use the Costco Yamaha TSR-700 7.2 / RX-V6A ??
Not sure why that is but I'm working to fix it, also the usual differences in volume from scene to scene aren't perfectly fixed by the reciever but its all in the process👍
tell me is this kit worth it? does he play musically well?
For the piece, yes, it’s a great little entry level system, and is surprisingly powerful and detailed with how little the speakers are. Music sounds pretty good too!
Your videos are super funny and objective / informative at the same time.
Thank you very much. That’s my goal on this channel! 😁👍

Nice presentation brother!I bought from Costco just $299 on sale.Just have a quick question which is the best AV Receiver to connect the Theater pack?
Sony STR-DH790 for budget, but if you can spend a little more, the Sony STR-DN1080 is better, or the Denon AVR-S650H on the same level as the Sony, if any happen to be on sale
@@ealanosborne Thanks
@@ealanosborne what about the AVR-S750H. Assuming the only difference is the amount of channels? S750 can utilize more speakers than the S650?
@@williamlaubscher3786 Yep! That one, too. That way you have that same option to add speakers later, if you so choose. 👍
Are the other speakers besides the subwoofer wireless? Need to know if I need to buy speaker wire and at what Guage.
Yes, it is a traditional wired system that needs to be powered by a receiver. You can get away with 16 gauge wire, but I usually go for 14 since it’s a little more resilient, although a tad pricier.
@@ealanosborne just bought it today
this deal is on sale right now for 269. is it really worth it ? Will it work on my PC?
Not directly with a PC, you would have to power these speakers with a receiver still.
Yo I'm hesitant because of the wireless sub, can you just wire hook it up? It has 2 rca connections
Of course! 👍 That’s how I hooked it up, with an RCA subwoofer cable. I’ve messed with the wireless capability a few times and it worked flawlessly. But I still prefer to keep it wired.

Hi, I have denon 7.1 receiver and klipsch 5.1 reference pack. I want to add 2 in-ceiling Klipsch speakers. Can you plz suggest what goes best with this setup I have. Thanks...
Quick question sir, can I upgrade this reference home theater system to dolby atmos if I buy a set of ceiling speakers as well?
You sure can! A speaker is a speaker. It just depends on if your receiver can decode Dolby Atmos and has at least 7 channels. 😀👍 Then you can put speakers wherever you need to.
@@ealanosborne I was trying to understand that thank you !
Yeah, you can get by with 16 gauge wire, but I usually recommend 14 gauge. A little more expensive, but more rigid and lasts longer. 👍

Can I add an additional sub-woofer Klipsch Reference R-12SW 12? Will this be good idea?
Do the satellite speakers accept banana plugs?
No, unfortunately. The holes in the spring clips are too small. It just accepts bare wire.
DO IT! 😄
They sell Yamaha or Denon receiver brah
8t actually might be Onkyo but they do have 2 choices
@@ealanosborne which is better denon or Yamaha or onto receiver at Costco?

is Klipsch Reference Theater 5.1 better than a dolby atmos sound bar 5.1 ?
Even though the Klipsch Ref Theater Pack needs to be hooked up to a receiver to work, I still think a receiver+Klipsch discrete surround sound system beats a soundbar system in the same price range since you get a larger sound stage than the fairly narrow stage you get with a soundbar. And the subwoofer that comes with the Klipsch system is just so powerful! Just my opinion, though! 😀
Can I use this directly with my tv or will I have to buy something to make it work. I’ve seen some people talking about using a receiver.

Great vid. However, do you need a receiver for Klipsch speakers? I like surround bars but also looking for something like this. Thanks!
Good luck! 👍

@@ealanosborne definitely. It's a decent starter speaker set for me. Adorama was running a black Friday sale hence the only reason I bit the bullet.

Canton Movie 165 or the Klipsch set?

And can use in a receiver whit Dolby Atmos?
This speaker pack looks so good! Thank you for your unboxing & Review, very well and good done.
What are your thoughts on Enclave cinehome2 ?? It being completely wireless are we missing on sound compared to these speakers?? Thanks

I want this set lol. But I need a receiver as well. Any budget oriented receivers that any of you would recommend? I'm not a HUGE audiophile so I don't need the best of the best.
@@themosesfactor7235 You are correct. It’s time to upgrade. 😄🙌
@@ealanosborne definitely gave you a sub. Thanks for the advice! Watching more of your vids now while playing Naval Action. 😅
