Listen mate, youre not alone. I've been through a bit of a rough patch myself lately. It's alright to talk about these things and the fact that you've opened up a little bit even in a UA-cam comment section - shows that youre not bottling things up too much. A guy I barely know gave me a hug when he noticed I was going through some shit, felt a bit weird because a guy has never done that to me. It reinforced my faith in humanity and belief that at the end of the day - folk have the capacity to stop and help a stranger. I hope you're well pal

The American in the hat is comedian Rich Hall. He was quite famous in the US in the 1980's then sort of dissapeared off the radar in the US and entered the UK comedy scene later in life, preferring how the comedy biz works over there. The other American is Reginold D Hunter, who didnt have a US comedy career. He moved to the UK and his whole comedy career was UK based.

Interesting thing is, British panel shows are seen by many comedians as a real achievement, not only them but some actors as well, so regarding comedians check out Michelle Wolf or Trevor Noah on British panel shows but the best is still Carrie Fisher who said she discovered those way too late and was loving it.

The first American comedian is Rich Hall - originally from Virginia, he spends his time half in the US and half in the UK. The other one is Reginald D Hunter. Originally from Georgia, he's been in the UK since the 1990s. "The Duellists"! You're right. For some reason I saw the image and thought "Barry Lyndon". Stephen hosted the first 13 series (A-M), Sandy Toksvig has hosted since then (and they're up to series V). Both very good.

Gonna say, to anyone who hasn't seen them, it's well worth looking up the documentaries Rich Hall has done for BBC 4 over the years - originally they were all based on movies and cultural depictions of regions or themes, such as the Deep South, Texas, California, Native Americans, Road Movies, but the last three were phenomenal: Presidential Grudge Match (history of US election campaigning), Working for the American Dream (basically the story of the "Dream" and US Labour/Industrial history), Red Menace (Nuclear Bombs and the Cold War).

Well first off, from one history nerd to another, very impressed and proud of your correct guess on the matter of the end of democracy in Athens, that was an excellent display of knowledge.
Second, Stephen Fry is the original and iconic host of the show, and will always be my favourite, but of all the people they could have chosen to replace him I don't think they could have made a better choice than Sandi Toksvig, because she is excellent and has kept the show going for as long as it has.
Third, yes, if you've never seen Rich Hall before, find some videos of his because he's very funny. He's American, but lived in the U.K. and was on a lot of panel shows in the early 2000s, super cool dude, haven't seen him on telly in ages.
Fourth, please continue with the QI reactions. I used to watch and re-watch QI so much but it's actually been ages since I've seen a lot of these old clips, and really been enjoying watching them again with your reactions thrown in.
And fifth, just hope you, Queen Boomer, the Princess, and everyone reading this is having a great day. Peace.

The billiard ball duel remnds me of the duel twist David & Goliath; one slingshot rock thrown hits the mighty giant right in the forehead! So yep - maybe even if he'd used a billiard ball David would have had the same result!

I quite like Gyles but I do get the feeling that he is the embodiment of "Why let the truth get in the way of a good story". As you say though, there are definitely some that turn out to be true (like being given the original Fozzy Bear by Jim Henson).
