It's one of the most tightly scripted 25 minutes of comedy ever written. Not a single moment is wasted from start to finish. People weren't anticipating you seeing any one part, just this master class in comedy writing as a whole.
The PC/woke brigade wouldn't let anything like this be made now.
@@davidz3879 They would lose there shit over the future trans episode. Poor little flowers. 😅
@@EarthlyEden1 That episode has, in fact, been canceled. It has been removed from the main streaming source in the UK. I don’t know if whatever source the Boomers are using still has it.
And now one of the greatest comedy writers ever can't get work because he called out the trans community for being evil, which they are.
I was literally just about to send the same comment!
I think they pulled it off with the 'Are We Not Men?' episode too
As a disabled wheelchair user, I find this probably the most divinely hilarious episode of all. People have occasionally said "Aren't you offended by the depiction of disability?" and then get awkward when I tell them it's probably one of the finest British comedy episodes. I have a wheely good sense of humour.
People getting annoyed for someone else is so irritating. It’s condescending as fook
I literally say "I'm disabled" in Roy's voice all the time. 😂😂 and my sister did pull the red cord while we were using the toilet and omg did we look at each other in panic. We were shouting it was an accident, don't open the door!
The whole point is that the joke is on Roy for pretending to be disabled, and he gets his comeuppance 😅
I think it's always interesting to see people's faces watching this. It's the worst possible thing that could happen that actually gets worse 😂😂
@@hipster01cg So do I! Particularly good for me as I'm in a wheelchair, so "Legs..." is also a corker 😂
this is arguably one of the best sit-com episodes ever, of any show in the world
This is a masterclass of how to write a sitcom episode. The fact that they introduced all the characters at the first season, and then they start the second one with this... beautiful.
Totally agree. It's genuine peoples' humour laid down for posterity lest we forget in our corporate liberal one party state
The sudden 'Moss-at-the bar' moment does it for me, not because it has the biggest belly laugh, but because it puts a cherry on top of the Jen-Roy wheelchair surrealism. I think Richard knows this too because he underplays it like a natural comedian would..
I actually wet myself laughing at this first time I saw it
The genius of it is they've been so focussed on Roy that you completely forget about Moss and the Staff toilet. And then your brain just fills in the whole story instantly and it's hilarious.
Yes! That cut to him is hilarious. And his facial expressions!!
The first time I saw this episode I cried from laughter at that. Such a simple joke but so bloody funny!!
@@Dayboot33 I kept thinking, in the back of my mind, "are we going to close up Moss's B plot?" and then it just happened and I lost it so hard 😂
Moss at the bar as Jen turns. Always cracks me up.
It's THE pay off of the whole episode lol It's the best one ever done.
Moss behind the bar is one of the best comedy moments of all time. Richard Ayoade plays it to perfection
Katherine Parkinson is absolutely brilliant in this. Roy in the wheel chair is hilarious and Moss working the bar is beyond funny but Jen's expressions are priceless. The point where she goes to the bar and see's Moss standing there she has this expression where she's clearly questioning her own sanity and struggling for an explanation.
Moss behind the bar is one of the funniest moments in British tv...... still makes me cry 😅
Can remember the first time I saw it. Roared laughing
Jen hailing a taxi at the end after some disaster becomes a recurring joke I love that.
Omg yes! TAXI!!
One of the best episodes of IT Crowd ever
Deadass I laughed so hard when Jen turned around an moss was like yes miss
@@ericv6502I nearly cracked my head for that 😂
The best episode, I think.
It was 100% the best episode.. 🤣👍🏼
Fun Fact: Richard Ayoade (Moss) married Lydia Fox, the actress who plays Laura Knightly in this episode. Also highly recommend a show called 'Wicked' in London.
The Fox acting dynasty!
I see Richard relatively often as he lives near where my kids go to school. Enough that he's known for being polite and respectful but not wanting to talk to people all the time, not asking for photos etc. Usually I've seen him out with his wife and/or kids so don't say anything.
@@jemmajames6719shame Laurence Fox is such an idiot
For me the star of the show in this episode is the editing, the timing of the key moments is just so on point
The Actress who plays Laura Knightly (Lydia Fox) is actually married to Moss (Richard Ayoade).
And this episode came out the year they got married (2007)
1 = Fish
2 = Chips
3 = Mushy peas
1 Sex
2 Sandwiches
3 Silence
This episode is gotta be one of the best episodes from this show. I have seen it so many times. Never fails to make me laugh.
The second half of this episode is the funniest continuous delivery of comedy I’ve seen on tv.
I lived in the US for 10 years. Early on, purchased a TV from American. I was told to drive around to the loading dock to collect. There was an older guy and a kid, 18 tops. I was chatting to the older guy and I could see the young guy in my peripheral vision staring at me, clearly wanting to interject.
I turned to him and he said, word for word, "Are you from England)?
I say "Yes"
He says "Do you know Stuart"?
In the background the older guy put his head between his hands!
Watched this with my family and my dad laughed so hard he had an asthma attack and we thought we might have to take him to the hospital for a a little while 😂 so funny it almost killed a man.
The "hold my hand - no, that's not my haaaaand" line had me in stitches. Amazingly well written episode
This is what we've all been waiting for, when the show really takes off. And now we get Douglas.
Love matt berry
FATHER!!!!
Unhand me priest!!!
The episode as a whole is amazing but the reveal to Jen of Roy on the wheelchair then Moss at the bar is class. There’s still more to come. FATHER!!!!!
SPEAK, PRIEST
WHERE IS YOUR GOD? WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?
FAAAARRRTHAAAAA! 🤭 -x-
Death is near! Death is everywhere! Who's that knocking on the door? It's Death...
AMBULANCE! I NEED A BLOODY AMBULANCE! I'M NOT JOKING!
Watching people watch this unbelievable episode for the first time is one of my greatest joys.
1 turn up naked
2 bring beer
3 don't stand in front of the TV!
The producers were worried about the ratings, but when the live audience came into the studio the second season, and so many of them were garbed like Moss with all the pens in the chest pocket and such, they KNEW they had a big hit!
I would say for me the best bit is when Jen turns around to ask for a double whisky and sees Moss. This is definitely the best episode of the whole show for me.
Jen turning round to Moss at the bar is possibly my favourite moment in any comedy
They get wilder as they go, some mind blowing episodes coming up. The exercise episode, the german cannibal, Peter file, the Internet and street countdown. Are amongst the finest in British comedy ever made. Can't wait to see your reactions.
Lmao, Roy's delivery of "I'm mad for craic" is absolutely hilarious 😂
Jen turning around and seeing Moss at the bar is the funniest thing I have ever seen and is the hardest I've laughed at anything.
It gets me every time, but I can still remember the first time I saw it years ago. I laughed so hard I might have done myself an injury. Perfect comedy 😂
The whole episode is like a setup for that one "punch line". It's the best comedy pay off ever! lol
As a retired member of the IT Crowd, I can honestly say that I have worked with people just like Roy, Moss & Jen. I’ve responded to support calls by asking if they had tried turning their computers off and on again. Been shouted at by a user because her desktop computer won’t power on some days. I suspected that one or more of her colleagues was pranking her by unplugging it when she wasn’t looking (I never told her, all she ever knew was that I fixed it).
Jen:"WIllies, willies, I like willies..."
Roy:"It's "I LOVE WIllies."
Jen:"What?""
Roy:"I LOVE willies....
Bartender:"Sir, can you keep it down?" XD!
Roy:"I'm always using the disabled!"
Moss:"It's ILLEGAL!"
"I'm disabled!"
Love the part with Jen turning and Moss being behind the counter. And the repeated smashing of the glasses.
"Me legs doon't work!"XD!
"I thought we could make it work between us, because you looked a bit like a MAN!" LMFAO!
Also my mum says Congrats on the new baby, she loves watching these with me and I'm actually disabled so it hits in so many layers and my sister pulled the red cord one time accidentally and it was very funny and we panicked. Leg disability like LMFAO. We always say "I'm disabled" in Roy's voice.
I've been waiting for this episode since the first reaction, I watched it on live tv and couldnt pause it so i feel like the chaos and rapid unravelling was such a punch, i remember bursting out laughing as soon as Jen turns around to see Moss behind the bar.
I think this episode is just one of those rare times where we weren't looking for any specific moment. It's just a brilliant episode from start to finish. Though my personal favourite is when Moss gleefully shouts "Hello" at one of the actors. The innocence in his voice truly cracks me up!
This is my favourite episode of the it crowd, brilliant
One of the best episodes ever written of any tv series, the bald bloke in the wheelchair in the bus at the end who talks to Roy is Ash Atalla is one of the producers
He also produced The Office.
All the episodes from now on ramp up to solid gold comedy. Every episode is just on a higher level than series 1.
We were all waiting for ‘im disabled’. And everything after that.
Here comes Douglas!
Btw, the actress Roy was enamored with is played by Moss’ real life wife.
No way!!! I didn’t know that!
I did not know this
I’ve been looking forward to this one. A true classic
This how you know your co-workers are now your good friends, when they lean into whatever the hell is happening.
Whole episode was hilarious - I think for me I was waiting for the reaction to Roy on the chair lift and then Moss behind the bar! Reaction didn't disappoint! :D
If you pause it like you did to recover from each hilarity then it takes away some of the humour. 1st few times I watched this I was in tears with my sides split. It is a masterpiece in how to write comedy and the timing and acting are 2nd to none
🤣 I ve seen it so many times, but it stays sooo funny. Moss also my favourite caracter. (Richard Ayouade)
In the Netherlands we have toilet ladies, you have to pay a euro or 50 c, not just tip them. But they dont just sit/stand around. They clean the toilets in between and stock paper etc. They often work at shops, cafe´s and at nightclubs as well. I like it when I go out at night. People are drunk and thh toilets become so messy when the bar staff does a clean twice a night. This way you have clean facilities. A friend of mine did it at a (gay ;) ) rave, dressed up fun, put out some stuff like deodorant, mints, lollies etc and made a lot of money.
I think the 2nd half of this episode is the funniest 10-15 minutes of TV ever produced. Seen it multiple times now, and it still cracks me up.
35:16 is to this day probably the hardest I have ever laughed because of a TV series. I think I actually hurt myself xD that cut and richard's face are absolute perfection
FINALLY. The one we've been waiting for.
Ever since you reacted to the first episode I have been waiting for this one, possibly the most perfectly scripted and executed sitcom episode ever.
Shit, I was laughing my arse off when I saw the thumbnail just recollecting the various classic moments.
The biggest laugh TV has ever got out of me was this episode 🔥
queen literally laughed herself blind for a minute there 😂
This episode is just one of those special ones where it's just one gag after the other, almost no breaks. Super dense and yeah, I was hurting after it was finished :D
One of best episodes of any sitcom ever...what a way to start 2024 🎉
Having worked in theatre most of my adult life and come from a family that also have I can categorically confirm that backstage parties are exactly as stated. I once woke up under the stage and we couldn’t find two cast members, one was located asleep in the rigging cuddling a dog puppet (it was hound of the Baskervilles) and one was trapped in a prop mechanism, it took a big tub of Vaseline and 30 minutes to pull him out. Of the mechanism I mean. These were the more sedate parties. I’m legally not allowed to talk about one. I can’t remember a lot. Good times.
How to make your man truely happy.
Turn the heating off
Turn the lights off
And don't leave the door open
Simple
Queen Boomer totally called it with Moss getting 100% into the role.
Brilliant stuff, thanks guys!
I'd just like to say I've loved watching these with you.
I do get the terrible blues after christmas, and i want to thankyou for these, they are going to help.
The best episode of the lot.
Yes! I've been waiting for this episode! It's one of my favourites!
"What happened?" "I'm disabled" 🤣🤣
you know a show is top notch when it couldn’t be made today 😂
oh and that bloke you recognised was martin from benidorm!
Every time I see this episode, I think it's award-worthy.
Sometimes I wish I could forget everything about this episode just to watch it for the first time again, one of the funniest I've ever seen :D
Heat Magazine was a celebrity gossip magazine with fashion & beauty tips etc aimed at young women.
I was excited for the whole episode, not one moment. The whole episode is just amazing. When you rewatch it, you'll find new things to laugh at, it's just so exceptionally written.
There's a lot of foreshadowing in this episode and I'm all here for it.
For most of us, this is where the show really picks up. It has so many iconic episodes from here on in. I'm really looking forward to the football one myself.
I'm gonna say it some more Garth Merenghi's Darkplace. You'll love it. Seriously goofy comedy. It's genius.
Ball massage... I can't think of anything more terrifying.
The Moss reveal behind the Bar is one of my Favourite T.V moments ever 🤣🤣 literally crack up everytime
This is one of the funniest episodes in all off sitcom history.
The proper reaction to the chairlift scene! I've seen it countless times, and still have tears in my eyes as I type this.. ❤
Great episode, a few more to come. There was a Benidorm actor in there you missed recognizing. Nicholas Burns who played Jerome also played Martin Weedon in Benidorm.
Nah, he did say he recognised but he didn’t twig it was Martin. He noticed just after he said, we better go the show’s starting.
As an Irish woman?. I can confirm….we’re all insane
This is one of my favourite ever episodes on a show. It’s absolutely fantastic.
I have seen this episode countless times and it still does not fail to make me collapse in laughter. King Boomer knows the three things to keep your man happy are breakfast, lunch and dinner!
I pulled a red cord many years ago when rather drunk. My thought process had been, "I wonder what this does". I distinctly recall replying to the concerned voices outside, "I'm alright, thanks, I pulled it by accident. Can you fuck off now, please?"
Moss's sudden appearance...that was the moment!
As soon as I saw this reaction video on your channel I knew I'd have to watch it right away, I was sure you'd both be in stitches from laughing 😂
Best parts imo, the actual Musical…just ridiculous 😂
Roy getting chastised by the barman for saying “I love willies” too loud.
Jen turning around seeing Moss and his facial expression.
All the bits with Nicholas Burns (the guy you thought you recognised but couldn’t figure from where).
And Jen's eyes ...
I'm so glad you guys liked this one as much as I do 🤣
As others have said the whole thing is good, but I notice the parts that totally destroyed you two were the exact same parts that had me creasing up - Moss at the bar, the agonisingly slow lift, etc.
The next episode is fantastic too, and in that one there actually are two very specific moments that had me on the floor. It'll be interesting if they also get you the same.
That woman who greets roy is actually richard ayoades wife.
Took me a sec, but the guys friend doing the bad Irish accent is the "posh" guy from benidorm with the wife that cheats on him with the barman
To answer your question, i looked for this episode specifically, in anticipation of your reaction starting from when they needed the toilet to the end of the episode.
It is one of the best examples of british humour, the perfect balance between mockery, self-mockery, cringe, deadpan expressions, sexual/innuendo, exaggeration and build up; without going overkill on any of them.
Only Fools and Horses was great for this balance too and had great moments in it (beware of the era of it if you decide to watch). A lot of other shows are good too, but tend to go overkill on certain aspects and lose the balance. Eg Inbetweeners is great, but some will find it too cringey at times.
Ps loved your English football chant reactions!
Queen B, i love your jingles. ❤😂 Your ball story is both hilarious and adorable. 😂😂😂
What an episode! British/Irish humour at it's best. Happy NY Boomers.
Knew you guys would love the part where he’s being lowered back down off the bus 😂😂 gets me every time
Moss at the bar is the linchpin of this episode. In isolation its not that funny but the timing in this episode is so perfect. Its fantastic writing.
Fun fact: the theatre is the theatre in Wimbledon. The shot with the wheelchair lift is by the bins of the Wetherspoons opposite. 😅
WHOASKED
In England if a glass gets broke they just grab another one and serve you, no shutting down the bar
By the way, the lady who played the actress in the theatre who’s super kind to Roy is Moss’ (Richard Ayoade) real life wife!
King Boomer is so gonna love Douglas, his Jay for IT Crowd.
That was a good episode. Probably my favourite IT Crowd.
That bit where Jen turns around and Moss is behind the bar, is my favourite part of the whole series.
I really burst on laughing at Roy being transported. 😂
Roy on the wheelchair lift, followed by Moss at the bar - brilliant!
I love your reactions so much, i've seen this episode a hundred times but this time i've been laughing as much as the first time
A friend I worked with pulled that emergency cord in a disabled toilet... while at a job interview! Caused a right fuss! LOL
This is the one we've been waiting for!!!!
This might be the tightest episode of any of its style of all time. There are some truely amazing British comedies, this swries being one of them, but this episode is just so well done, so trimmed of any fat. 10/10 would watch again
Moss behind the bar, one of the funniest scenes on TV ever 🤣. “Thats Classic Moss.” Fun fact: the actress playing Laura Knightly is Richard Ayoade’s real life wife, Lydia Fox.
"Moss" costarred in the American movie with Ben Stiller which I think was called "The Watch". And by the way if you want fast talking American's go to New York City. I also figured out that the Spanish language requires fast talking, because they have to get twice as many syllables in each sentence. I wonder if toilet guys are there to discourage damaging the place. "The Standard" newspaper photo will show Roy as a gay guy all over the country. And at the end Roy has to ride in the gay van a really long way.
Your knock the mic moment was hilarious. Enjoyed watching along with you, good to see that you 'get' the humour.
I don't know a single person who's watched this episode, and hasn't absolutely creased with gut-busting laughter at some point!
One of, if not the, best episodes of the show.
OMG been waiting for this in like FOREVER!!!!!! Happy New Year Boomerites
Thanks guys! I loved seeing you laugh. You made me laugh even harder when you knocked over the mic!! Love from the uk
This was the first episode of the IT Crowd I happened to come across. Talk about lucky!
