Great content Brian as always! It has been several years since I’ve painted but this surely motivates me to jump back on the several projects I need painted. Pondered many, many times just to take somewhere to get done and even top dollar jobs I’ve seen are yielding average results. Two thumbs up for sharing your tips and knowledge!
THANK YOU for clarifying the major differences in restoration work vs collision repair. So many people think there's only one way to do things.
Exactly!!!! Thanks for picking up on that
This is really awesome watching all the stages of work needed on this older vehicle before paint, can’t wait for the next one 👍
Great series. Thank you, I am just starting in on a 91 cummins to fix some rust, rock chips and faded clear coat. This is just what I needed.
Brian this is a fantastic series of videos for beginners, great information and tips for prepping for paint, can't wait for the next one 👍🏻
Thank you!
@@PaintSocietyat what pressure do you use the da
Thanks to you I fully painted my 240 and it’s looking really great! Thank you for all the great lessons and resources Brian 😁👌🏼
Great video. I'm glad to see someone has the heart and love for the industry to make videos and show/explain to people how to do body work and paint.
Your videos are always very informative and in detail and a source of inspiration for beginners and industry professionals, thank you for making me part of this series my brotha 🤙
Hi Pedro, Looking forward to watch your next video as well. Thanks guys!!
Thanks Pedro for coming always and putting in the hard work it takes !
Sir, thank you so much for the detailed steps. You answered so many questions I had for prepping and primer that no one else seems to answer in their "how to" explanations. I even took a Continuing Ed paint class that didn't give the tidbits needed that are in your video. Thanks again. I have 3 cars that need paint/bodywork and can't afford to pay someone to do the work. At least I can confidently get them to the primer stage confidently now. 👍
Awesome vid, we need more series like these, for old and cheap cars, to show that people don't need the most expensive equipment to start painting
Absolutely love your channel. I have learned much more by watching than I thought I knew and you simplify quite a bit to the point I think I can get a much better result from my last attempt which BTW wasn't bad at all but it just took me forever...
Very cool information and hints. Every time I learn more and more . Nice job Brian.
Love the collaboration between you 3 masters of painting @Paint Society @Scorpion Paint @Mario Paint Class 💯 👌🏼 Greetings from Amsterdam, The Netherlands!
Brilliant once again Profe, looking forward to the next one!
Great series man, it’s just what I needed.
Someone get this man a t-shirt that says "Etching Primer" on it.
These videos have been super helpful. Thanks a ton.
That SCT drum is fantastic! Can't imagine the number of abrasive sheets you'd go through (and the time) to cover that large an area.
Most excellent, specially telling the peeps to use self etching primer on the bare metal spots
My dad and I have a small shop and I got to say man I love looking at your videos !! I learned so much from them !
Thank you !
This is exactly the guide series I need for my sunburned Civic. Keep up the great work!
thats actually what I'm working on now. 2012 Black Honda Civic... Great motors, crappy paint lol!
there were some videos ago that i asked about this, because I just bought a fixer upper truck in the same condition. thanks now I get to see how its down first hand.
Hi Brian & Pedro! Nice work as usual, thank you for teaching! (I already know this faded old car is going to look brand new again soon! Live long and prosper 🖖 boys!
Awsome video ,I am doing a 77 olds I am not a professional but watch these videos is really helpful.
amazing, I've been waiting for these type of video.
Mr brian i am from morocco
And i love car painting it's my hobby
And i see your vedeos since 3 years ago
And really really you are master on this
Your vedeos are tutorials and study for beginners and reference for pro painters
You explain it in the way of sticks and this the most good things in your vedeos
Keep going and thank you !
Did you great work man !!
I love it when somebody is recording me, makes me pay attention to my work-
I like the way you are so clear in explaining what you are doing😅
Another absolutely outstanding video for people like me!
Great video I'm doing that same thing to my foxbody first time painter you help alot THANKS
Thanks for making these videos, helps alot!
Must tell you your lessons really teach me so much. Thx
Thank you for your useful information, keep doing it.
Always have great information and content 🔥
Thank you so much , Really learning alot. Great Job
Thanks Brian for helping another bryan fix his si lol this is the exact video series I needed
Nice. Gotta go back and watch episode 1.
As always, well done!
It is great information. I would love to see this in your garage with more diy tools. I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla that needs similar work. I will like to received a list of all I need to use to do the work. I feel so lost. I guess I am overthinking it. Great videos.
Outstanding video!
I take everything back. Your work is informative and easy to follow.
Can you make an episode to show what to when things go wrong? Dirt, silicone contamination, flies, loose tape. What do i do? When to stop and when to start all over again. Cheers. Jon
Can't describe how much I enjoy your videos. Biggest question always have is what's the air consumption? I'm stuck with 110v and run a 30gal 5scfm and a 6gal 2scfm hotdogs on another circuit both connected into a 20 gal holding tank. I want my next investment be gun (so I have a good reason to watch 10 of your reviews again) but i think another 30gal compressor my be what I should do. It's only a hobby I beg neighbors and my kids to ask their friends if I can paint their cars!
Awesome tutorial. Wish you were in SoCal. I’d def bring all my cars to you.
Great video Brian.. Man that smart spray can primer sure save me in a pinch.
Excellent and informative!!

I learn something new everytime I watch your videos
Awesome video Brian.
Beautiful painting
I’m going to paint my own car using this guide 🤟🏽🤟🏽
I needed this thank you so much
Love the lengthy videos 🙌
Wow you really do learn as you go i did not know you had to wait for the primer to cure before wet sanding or even applying it i always just wait 5 minutes after i spray the 1st coat to spray the 2nd one and 15 minutes for the 3rd and i wait 1 day before wetsanding i was woundering why on someones hood when they primed and left it out for a like 2 days it bubbled up and was like a air pocked that could be peeled off thanks for the information paint society!
Looks great
great job as always!!!!......fan from algeria
Nice video , we do most of that work with simple tools here in my country , like we are in the 80s maybe 🤣 . I really enjoy your videos ♡ a big like
Great 2nd set
Excellent work 👍 👏 👌
Very cool informative and detailed "how to" video - great job!
I might try polyester primer next time, it's not supposed to shrink back.
Thanks for the video series Brian.
What much is the price for paint the car?
Pedro did a great job capturing you first primer coat......
Fantastic content
Very good congratulations
Good work Bro keep it up
Respekt. Super Videos.sehr gute Erklärungen. Gr.Harry
I have being waiting
good info
Awesome vid mate!!! I'm in the process of doing the exact same thing. My Ford has zero clear coat left and on various panels, I can literally chip pieces of clear coat off by hand. Some fun prepping panels is on the horizon for me. Cheers from Newcastle, Australia
Good luck mate. If the clear is flaking off you might want to sand all the clear off because if it's flaking in one spot it's probably going to peal everywhere eventually.
@@adamgruenwald2087 , yep I've sanded all the clear off as it has much disintegrated, car is now currently in 2k primer with 2k epoxy primer underneath. Just waiting a few days for the primer to get rock hard and to let it shrink, then wet on wet sealer then base and clear.
Hi Brian. I really want to open up my own business from home. I know I'll need a shop at some point but can you send me some guide for an at- home car painting busyness. I know my potential is cut in a home garage but I need to start somewhere. I have little experience but man do I love, love watching all these videos and the sheer joy I get from a final product...I can't deny that I might have a clear passion for this. I have a full time job but really want my own business. Your work is phenomenal and I take plenty notes. Any help would help. Trying to understand who regulates us, state and federal, etc.
Thanks in advance sir!! Love, love your work. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hey Brian I'm pretty sure you can answer this question....what's the difference between
LvLp and lvmp...thanks man keep up the awesome work you do
I’m loving this…thank you for sharing…cool name btw 😋
Thanks for spelling it correct lol
Great repair series for beginners and pros
Thanks for helping! Dropped your info in the description
@@PaintSociety cool beans
Can’t wait to see how you get rid of the Edge Mapping. That’s always my biggest fault when i do body work and put primer and paint. I always get the ring/island looking spots
Got the car painted. Nice and smooth
greetings from a car paint workshop in yogyakarta, indonesia

Would love to see if you could touch upon how to adjust and line up hood, fender, etc. gaps on vehicles. Maybe some tips, tricks for the novice possibly?
Only on the second video and I'm already very interested in it all!! Quick question if the clear coat is starting to peel should it be sanded down to the bare metal or just sand the clear coat off? Also if I still have a clear coat intact then what do I sand down to? I'm looking to color match a few rust-free things on my truck
I don’t know why but I always like the look of primer. Kinda want to paint my car that color.
Hey Brian thanks for your videos man 👍 ,have a question I been working on my mustang 1992 sanded down to no clear coat only paint ,some small dings here and there nothing bad which primer you recommend to use I'm in California no rust on the car
Hey Brian love your work brother, I'm in Australia and I have a project where i need to color match a bumper and a hood which are dark charcoal grey and i need to change them to a black pearl to match the car....also the roof has faded paint so i was going to respray that too...my question is.....can i just sand back the bumper, hood and roof with 380grit then 600 and then just spray the base and then the clear or do i need to apply a sealer or primer before laying down the base coat...? (no bodywork or repairs are needed) Thank you so much for all your content, really enjoying it and thank you in advance for your response...! PS can you do a short video on all the paints you use from primers, sealers, base and clear, including what thinners, hardeners, reducers etc. you mix including why, and the difference between 1k and 2k, water based, solvent based and what is the difference between all of those paint technology systems...!
Again Thank You Brian...!!
Sincerely
Ramsay
I really like your videos because they're very informative. The think I hate is that you touch the surface with your bare hands (like when you mentioned that the primer was dry). Even if you wash your hands a lot it still could have body oil on them, unless you wash your hands with MEK (you wouldn't have much skin them!!). Thank you for the videos.
Man watching that primer being sprayed on is like a cool breeze on a hot day
Have you guys got a video on prepping a bonnet for filler primer with stone chips?
what is the yellow marker pen you used on the car? i couldn’t find it on your Amazon store.
Question for the group? I prime, 2 coat base paint but I probably made a mistake by waiting until the next day to paint my 3rd coat. I started spray painting and notice the wet paint start to peeling off it seem like if I put a paint remover. I did sand paper to fix the spot, I spray paint to even up the peeling. What you think cause the peeling? What is the best way to do 3rd coat of base since I am not doing it all the same day? Would have more issues on my clear coat 1 and 2nd coat? Thanks in advance.
@paintsociety Question.
I painted my 04 s reaming yellow Mach 1 5-6 yrs ago cause the paint cracked all the way to metal. So i completely removed it all to metal. I made the mistake of using a cheap single stage paint. That oxidizes easily and will not hold a shine. Paint otherwise has held very well.
So now this fall i will be doing a full repaint with bc/cc. My plan is to rough the paint, spray an epoxy primer(?), do minor body work, prime the work, then lay down bc/cc.
My question is, is my thinking here correct doing that over a single stage paint? I keep seeing alot of people mentioning sealer but not sure if i should be using that and if so, what stage of the job should i be using it.
Also not %100 sure how much i need for full repaint minus the jambs and such. Some brands ive looked at are a 2-1 primer and base color, figured a gallon should be enough...??? Clears are anywhere from 2-1 to 4-1. When i used the single stage it was 3-1 and honestly wasnt quiet enough. Thoughts?
As for brand im jot sure yet, not going super cheap but dont want to go too far on the expensive side. Was looking at Roberlo brand but most likely going with what i can get local.
Thank you for any help.
If i spray etching primer over 180 grit can i then spray urethane surfacer over that? or will i still have to go up to 320? I took my fenders hood and door down to bare metal
good😊
I have primed and block sanded and guide coated my car 3 times and I am confident that it is very straight. What do you do if there are some very, very, very small edges that got sanded through to bare metal. They are so small they are the width of a small needle. Do you get out the primer gun, mix a little bit more primer and try to spot prime those very small areas. It seems like I am going to be chasing my tail when it comes to these very mall break throughs to metal. Any input would be appreciated and thanks!
I am repainting my 66 mustang. I have to take all flat surfaces down to bare metal due to major cracks in the paint. It looks like worm marks like you would see at a beach. I am looking into purchasing the east wood prime roll on kit. My question is do I just use the epoxy primer on the bare metal or the hole car? Also is it OK to use other brand name paint over the east wood primer?
Its awesome to have these videos in series to help with learning on paint. Well done Brian, ure great motivator and teacher. Is there any specific reason not to prime the whole car? In our workplace we usually prime the whole car even though some panel has good paint in it still
Sound like your work place doesn’t know what they’re doing
@@jaym6187 well i did ask them and they said its important to get the whole body straight possible since the whole panel will be block down
on the rougher side around 13:45 into the video when you sand it with 180- do you then smooth down to 320 or do you spray primer straight onto 180?
How would you go about fixing edge mapping after the primer is sprayed down? I ask because I thought i had featheredged properly but I can see some edge mapping underneath the urethane primer surfacer.
Awesome learning vid, but, I noticed you touched primer area with bare hands, and then lay down prim coats on top... Is that not a no no? Also when spraying notice/seems like you have your gun angled over and not at 90 to panel. Just asking due to I'm learning and watching different u-tube vids. But I must add that I keep coming back to yours, since you have a way of explaining while filming. Keep up the great work
Can we use a regular orbital sander instead of the flat square type sander you are using?
Brian, I sprayed some some PGG- Shop Line primer 2K surface and it turned to be very rough (feels like 60 grit). I think I know what the problem was (high temperature and maybe low primer flow) but the question now is if I can still keep it after sanding it.
If there's portions of clear fading on an already old car, why does it make sense to keep any of it on if you're doing a full respray? Isn't there a risk of that clear failing over time?
For that’s and reason I sanded all the clear off most every part of my old dodge before I’m respraying. It’s obviously already old, dry and bad. Might as well not stack on top of stuff that is “almost” old dry and bad. It’s just more work 🤷♂️
If you read at 7:14 he sanded the clear coat off.. you can see only the clear coat was peeling the base was a stable platform to paint on though. In the perfect world down bare would be amazing but not everyone can afford that job
I have a 1988 560sel, N1NOBRWN part II in my playlist, that was apparently a victim of tree sap on the driver side quarter panel. Some of the spots got to metal and have formed surface rust. What would be the best way to sand it evenly and prime it to get it protected from the elements.
Hey! Can i use a orbital da to sand down paint?
I want to repaint a polyurethane spoiler that its clear coat is peeling but base coat is good and I'll be using spray cans.
I have sanded it down with P320 on damaged clear coat and the whole panel with P600 because I didn't have P400, do you think it should be fine spraying primer over it or i must use P400 sandpaper before spraying primer?
