China's City of Glasses: Danyang 丹阳 📹 Opening A Shop in Shanghai 🇨🇳China Weekly Vlog

- Join us this week as we take a road trip from Shanghai to Danyang, Jiangsu to visit the Glasses City. Hop on board as we indulge our taste buds in the aromatic noodles and foods of Danyang before exploring the five floored mall dedicated to all things glasses and eye health. After 4 years of wearing the same glasses (infrequently oops) I have conceded to becoming a full time glasses wearer and what better place to get my eyes tested than the famous glasses city?! It may be daunting figuring out how to get your eyes tested if you're an expat or student living in Shanghai but you can pretty much walk into any glasses shop and ask for an eye test. Danyang is definitely the cheapest place to do this with the fastest turn around for getting your glasses made too.
After driving back to Shanghai we catch up with friends for a relaxing cafe dinner in Songjiang. Once again I visit Korea town with friends for my favourite Korean BBQ and try the delicious toasted marshallow coated ice cream that the bustling street vendors have to offer.
Recently, my best friend Eva has opened a shop on Anfu Road in downtown Shanghai. This street is a well know photography street famous for its high end fashion boutiques and vintage stores. I feel so blessed to have been able to help Eva move into the space, set up furnishing, check out the stock, and attempt to assemble to custom sofa. I always took pleasure in watching shop update vlogs and videos of others setting up their businesses. I hope this behind the scenes of a shop opening in China gives you an insight into all the work that goes on behind the scenes for everyday people here in Shanghai, China.

I think a popular traditional practice would be eating mooncakes and drinking tea under the beautiful 8th month full moon. It's also a romantic time for young and old to feast with lanterns surrounding them.

The benefits of waking up early is the stunning sunrises. The sunsets in Shanghai are always spectacular too. Every day has a blessing. As for the poster, they took the picture after we won a 20rmb voucher at the compounds music festival a few months ago so I guess they consider that payment enough 😅😅
Did your friend sent back the customary made sofa? I think they forgot to compensate for the screws. Nice video, l definately will go to China one day, and proably take you on your recommdation to go to glasses city to buy my glasses. Congrats on being famous in China, who does it feel? She asked the building uncle to help her to make holes so it could be fixed, it was easier than hiring a delivery driver to return the sofa 😂 Danyang is definitely the best place for glasses, they are so cheap and good quality, and they will make them there and then for you! As for being famous, soon my head will be too big to fit into the elevator 😂😂😂

Such a great vlog! And it's official, I'm getting ripped off when I buy my glasses here in the city.
Right?! These glasses didn’t even have a price on. I had no idea how much I was going to pay, they were all so cheap but good quality still. They still had lots of designer glasses at like 3000rmb but that’s still not too expensive compared to England! So much choice!

Hi there! Which city is better for Eyewear products? Danyang or cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen? Which city should i visit?
100% Danyang. It’s known as the city of glasses. Aside from this, there isn’t much to do there compared to other big cities like Shanghai or Guangzhou so I wouldn’t recommend a special trip over to Danyang unless you are close by (Nanjing or Shanghai), otherwise I’m sure Guangzhou and Shenzhen have appropriate places, they just might not be as plentiful or affordable. The great thing about Danyang is that all the glasses places are in one big mall so you don’t need to waste time shopping around and they can make them there for you usually within an hour so you don’t have to special order them

We live in the countryside of Shanghai where there are lots of stray dogs
