After almost 30 years, the "Chase" music still gets my heart pumping like crazy! And the soundtrack was slower here, in Europe, so that version is even more stress-inducing than the one I was used to hearing!
Beating this game as a child is one of my biggest accomplishments in life, it was my rite of passage. When I die I’m certain my last words will be, BUMMER! Thank you creative people for this rad game!
I remember spending an afternoon trying to beat this game. I pulled it off. The ending was a huge disappointment. It was terrible. You can't make people go through a 100 level game to give them that ending. It's seared in my brain forever. Still a great game though

This is the game that my mom read the cover for us kids back in '95, at the rental store. When she said "Kid Chameleon, a hundred levels" we were like "haha no way, we don't want to play a game that has 100 levels" because we thought it impossible to get through that many levels! :D
Did anyone else know about a crazy teleport trick to the start of World 3-1? I know there is a way to go to the final boss from the 2nd level, but this trick involved getting no hits, speed bonuses, no prizes, detour to get the Cyclone helmet, then grab the 10,000 point blocks in the 1st skull level under 30 seconds in the top right hidden section. Also, if you hold pause right as you lose your last life (perfect timing) you can Give Up at the prompt and go into the negatives ;) I obsessed in my youth
Is that the end of world 1 - 2. You climb up onto the block above the flag and crawl forward. Immediately teleports you to the last boss. This trick is intact in the mega drive collection for the Xbox one. And now I see, I should’ve read the rest of your comment. I did not know about that!
I got real exited that someone was playing Kid Chameleon on twitch and as soon as they got to Hills of the Warrior they beat it on one go and that was when I knew I was watching some bullshit. KC is one of my favourite games ever, and even I took a few playthroughs to remember all the traps.
Man this music brings back memories. I first beat this game with a little bit of help from my dad when I was about 9. No save states or anything either. Crazy thing is that I’m not like 30 years old but 16. I don’t think I’ll ever meet anyone my age that loves this game as much as I do
Im 43. I loved this game when I was in middle school but I could not beat the Forced Entry level. That was the farthest I could go so far. Like you had to jump over some rubber while the screen on the left was a machine that was closing in on you.
@@tuatara80 think the trick with that part is not to hit the jump button; once you're amidst the rubber blocks, just kind of bounce through naturally. Good luck if you pick it up again :)
I'm 44 beat this game with my uncle when I was 11 then in my 20's just to see if I remembered the portal route to beat the game. So mad years later I found out there was a secret warp on the first boss to the last master lol.
When I think about the game I got most excited about as a kid, it's a tie between this and Sonic 2, but if I had to pick one game that embodied the "feel" of the Genesis in the early 90's, it's this one, hands-down. Such a classic.

@@SuperPCGamer I'm not gonna lie though. That commercial was the single reason why I wanted a Sega Genesis over a Snes even though I was currently a nes kid. The snes and Genesis were both great consoles that had their strengths and weaknesses over the other. Sega's main problem was they got a little too ambitious and aggressive and really wasted a lot of time and money on things like the Sega CD and the 32x.
SuperPC Gamer SNES was a little too concerned with pleasing parents. Not allowing blood in NHL ‘93, No blood in Mortal Kombat, etc... whereas Genesis didn’t give a damn. Look at Splatterhouse 2 and 3. The SNES also had inferior sound. The SNES came out a full two years after the Genesis and the muffled cheap sounding SNES never reached the level of audio that the Genesis did. Kid Chameleon is just one example. The audio is not the crispest I have heard but compared to some SNES titles like Turtles in Time it sounds miles better. Virtually every cross platform sports game sounds better and plays better on the Genesis. NHL ‘93 and NHL ‘94 come to mind right away.

Fabulous. My only complaint is that when I press pause, the sound doesn't echo. (Also, there's a noticeable lack of "DIE!", particularly in the Cave theme) ;)
Time to hear this soundtrack for reals. This was definitely one of the more fun platformers out there, even though I had no chance of actually completing it.
First time I played it on my Mega Drive the WALL level (the chase) got me nervous later on I stuck on that crystal crags I cant recall the name of the level God's revenge or smth not sure, it was before the final boss !!

I am 24 and this was one of my favorite games for the Genesis, despite being a little before my time! If anyone has played the game “Skul” for PS4, that feels like a spiritual successor in terms of gameplay. KC is such a classic.

I remember borrowing this game to a friend circa 1992 and having tons of fun with it. The wide range of transformations and crazy level design was something else! Also, it's one of those Mega Drive soundtracks that scream "North American style" which is awesome! That cultural variety and sound distinctiveness within the Mega Drive library are further reasons why this system is so important and fascinating to dig. And the GEMS sound driver was the source to many other great soundtracks, most of them sounding very American too (very "Genesis-esque" one could say) as do Global Gladiators, X-Men 1 and 2, Demolition Man or Comix Zone!
This is definitely one of the best games on the console. LOVED it as a kid, finally beat it as an adult by using save states, and I think now that I'm getting older I might be ready to do it without cheating. What a great title.
Just managed to beat the game in a 2.5 hr sitting, 16 years after my first time playing. Will always be one my favorite Genesis titles, and the music plays a big part in that. Thanks for the high quality upload 👍
It's quite a feat! I got the game when I turned 9 and was excited to try to beat every level...and never actually managed it. I got as far as "Beneath the Twisted Hills" and gave up without realizing how close I actually got.

But when the machine becomes self-aware it begins to disappear children that play it, digitising them when they lose to trap them in the game forever. That's when Kid Chameleon comes in to beat the Wild Side at its own game and free the local kids.

Of all the games not to have a save feature...This game rules and I loved the different paths you could take. Even if you wanted to cheat and warp to the final boss on the second level.
its because of the GEMS sound drive, it can use the CPU to pull some tricks (like different set of instruments depending of what its on screen or what character you are playing). Probably the slow down is what affects the music.

Nu Romantic Productions did the music for this game as well as the OST for Chakan The Forever Man, among others. Both brilliant soundtracks. On a side note, I loved how when you died in this game, the last notes in the song would ring out into the level title screen

Nu Romantic Productions did the music for this game as well as the OST for Chakan The Forever Man, among others. Both brilliant soundtracks. On a side note, I loved how when you died in this game, the last notes in the song would ring out into the level title screen

I know that Chakan didn't have great sound by the standard of Mega Drive games at the time, but I still like the music. Understand?

Yuzo Koshiro, Technosoft, Michiru Yamane, and Bo were the best at using the Megadrive's sound capabilities, which were much greater than GEMS would have you believe.
When does Kid Chameleon get a reboot? :(

Not necessary. The original game is still perfect and awesome to play.
I remember being so bad at this game when i was seven, I only played it for the sound track.
