Thank you for making these. They are really high quality and it's clear that you care about what you do and i love you for it :)
HistoryMarche do you have any book recommendations on hanibal
Please continue doing this in such great detail please! You're amazing!
Please do part 2 :)
Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed the video. The series will be continued of course, I'm planning around 10 episodes. There's a vote currently on my Patreon page where patrons will decide on what topic will be covered next, but after that video I plan on making episode 2.
Carthage is by far my favorite civilization to learn about, but there's one thing about them that makes reading on them VERY annoying. Every general is either named Hannibal, Hanno, Hasdrubal, or Huno. And there's like fifty hannos and hunos a piece.
Oh I agree! The Barca family alone wasn't very inventive when it came to names. It's like having 10 sons, 5 named John, 5 named James... But, the Barca family gave us Barcelona, otherwise Messi might've ended up playing for Real Madrid - a most dreadful prospect :)
HistoryMarche Could not have put it better my friend!
Go to Mexico.
Nothing but Juan,Jose,Jesus,Jaime.
JK.
Maybe George Foreman was Carthaginian.
There was also Mago.
Absolutely quality stuff. A brilliant take on one of the most fascinating and brutal conflicts of the ancient world.
Thanks man! Love to see you!
Hey! It's History Time! Can't wait for your next video.
Hannibal's march to glory
i've seldom had such enjoyment watching a series, i learned things about Hannibal that i've never learned before despite being a history buff for several years, well made folks.
Thank you very much for the positive feedback. Hannibal is one of my favorite historical figures. Part 3 is under way and should come out in September
Proud of the history of my country...im from tunisia and carthage ruins still here today..thanks for the good informavtive video
Part 2 is finished, will be out today in early access on my Patreon page.
The romans never produced a general that even matched Hannibals brilliance; and Julius Ceasar was a genocidal maniac. What he did in gaul would make Hitler blush.
@Alex P. Unfortunately that was Hannibal's downfall. If he was at least a little bloodthirsty to sack Rome, history would be very different.
Carthage was more technologically advanced than Rome at the time. Economically superior, much superior fleet and ship technology. The Rome you like to refer to was post Marian reforms, which were around 100 bc. Barbarians do win usually though, think of the mongols; they conquered all the advanced civilizations of that time(and no, none were in Europe).
@@alexp.2897 They had all of that and the Romans still managed to win so tell me how is Carthage better? You can't even argue that Rome is THE GREATEST EMPIRE ever to exist!
The strategy Hannibal used against the Iberians at the Tagus river is similar to what he used against the Romans at the Battle of Lake Trasimene. Using campfires to fool the enemy, and then pulling a surprise ambush attack for the win. As Sun Tzu says "All war is deception." Hannibal was such a brilliant strategist that I sometimes wonder if he got his hands on a copy of The Art of War before commencing his campaign against Rome.
Gauls under Roman rule: "I hate Roman rule, let's help the Carthaginians."
Guals under Carthaginian rule: "I hate Carthaginian rule, let's help the Romans."
Spudgun Official oh shit hey spudgun. Love your Vic 2 stuff
Did you watch the video ?
Spudgun Official, almost like they really didn’t want to be somebody’s vassal.
Carthage: You broke the treaty and took land on our side of the Ebro River.
Rome: You broke the treaty and took land on our side of the Ebro River.
Oh god oh fuck, spud has seen a MAP.
man the story of the punic wars never gets old no matter how many books and documentaries you would delve into. This epic rivalry between the awesome 2 cities, wars on scale never seen before spamming arround the entire Mediteranean, massive land and sea operations and most of all the perfect theater to reveal the geniuses of legendary generals.
My goodness this have to be the greatest roman generation. Survived the Hannibalic War and was apart of the rapid expansion of the Republic into the Greek East, taking on powerful and established Alexanders succesors.
And the fact that Polybios actually lived not far in time from this period (unlike pretty much the other historians dealing with Roman republican history ) and that he accompany Scipio...errr son ? (dont know which one ;)) makes the things even more authentic.
Right, I'm off to bed. I'm still not back to full health and I stayed up to upload the video for you guys. Then, as usual... I stuck around to answer some of the initial comments before bedtime. But my body and soul is spent. I need to replenish them. And my IQ points are also wasted, all 30 of them... need to recharge.
Get better! Your videos are great, I really enjoyed the episode about the Muhi battle. Good job. I learned about that event in high school and later on the university, but it was still refreshing, and made it lot easier to look the greater picture. I know your videos takes time and lots of work, so I just wanted to congratulate to your work,
HistoryMarche We thank you for the effort :) and greatly appreaciate it!
Best videos , better than Baz battles but still not as Kings and generals
@Napoleon tas Me too I was thinking the exact same thing, Kings and Generals is top tier stuff
Great work sir!!! Much respect.
I loved the sheer number of units being moved around, and the real-time events being shown clearly. Great video.
Superb content. I've read so much on Hannibal and this campaign but still learning little details from this. Fantastic
Thanks. Knowing that someone found insightful bits and bobs in my videos is a great feeling!
Sure thing! Cheers from Shanghai
No--Hannibal was Semitic.
my countryman Hannibal ...Tunisia
Read Imam Ali quote about learning from history@@HistoryMarche
I really like the strategies Hannibal used, most of them being traps and secret flanking that show how cunning he was
Also, This is a really good video, because in the same amount of time of all your videos, you mashed a lot of battles instead of one, and detailed the strategies perfectly
As graphicly clean as BazBattles and Invicta, as easy to listen to as Historia Civilis... There are lots other channels I could cite, Kings and Generals, Hystoryden etc your young channel is right there with them.
Keep up the good work dude, you just won another sub.
Thank you very much. I'm glad you think well enough of my channel to compare it to other great channels. Welcome to the channel!
Great video, loved the new animations, + the swinging signs at the end, that was really cool.
Like the bird, owl at night, building and other sound effects...adds a lot :)
I have been at Sagunto Saguntum really cool site mixture of pre-Roman, Roman medieval and later fortifications all copy and pasted together-worth a visit.
@ P0pShotz - Indeed, great content over on Epimetheus!
Oh, it is Epimethus. Great videos!
The subtitles are hilarious: "Hannibal: "I'm a big shot now!" Rome: "We noticed!"
Hehe, thank you. Chat bubbles in part one are meant to convey the absolute clusterf*ck that was Carthaginian-Roman diplomatic relation. Their dispute over where the Ebro river is located is hilarious.
Levantine here and so was Hannibal and all Phoenicians/Canaanites. Thank you for not making the same mistake History Channel did with Hannibal depicting him as something he wasn't. Keep it up. New fan.
Welcome to the channel.
ACE true bro
I was sad that he made him look like sub sharen African
He wasn’t
He was from the middle east
Within a minute I was completely floored by the production quality. It's something I have rarely seen and something that I would definitely not have expected from a new channel with just a handful of vids.
I fully understand that it takes a while for each new part to appear. Thank you very much!
Thank you for the generous feedback. You are most kind. Welcome to the channel.
3 years later, and we're still not all the way done with Hannibal. The production quality and effort of these videos cannot be overstated. It truly is incredible.
Excellent video: I love the way you went into glorious detail with respect to Hannibal's conquest of the Iberian peninsula (a subject often overlooked by many historians).
You are inevitably going to become huge in no time. The visuals are phenomenal.
I am from Rusicade, modern day Skikda in Algeria. Fun to see my town appear in such ancient history map.
@loveinheaven2020 runi what is this had to do with berber amazighs?
@garnbroek stfu we help you too much look what numidians done for carthage but
We don't want to stay under the rule of the Carthaginians masinissa was right about it
@loveinheaven2020 runi he's dumb as fuck aghyoul
@loveinheaven2020 runi ok i get that you hate Islam but why being racist( calling Arabic Arabish)? That actually shows the kind of mentality the haters of Islam have.
@loveinheaven2020 runi u are a stupid berber who have no noticable history ,, carthage and phoencians were semetic ,coming from a tunisian specifically from utique
pig
I love the history about Carthage and in particular Hannibal Barca and you're doing a bang-up job telling an epic story! At the same time it is some fantastic graphic work that has been done for this video, it really binds everything together. I sincerely hope that this series will continue! You can never get too much Carthaginian history! :). I've already watched it more than 10 times :)
Thank you very much for watching. Welcome to the channel. The series will definitely continue, but between Hannibal episodes there will be videos that cover other topics. I'm planning about 10 episodes for Hannibal, so there will be 1 Hannibal episode, then 1-2 videos covering other topics, then 1 Hannibal episode etc. The series is long so I have to mix it up a bit in order to please all viewers. I'm very much glad you liked the first episode that much, stay tuned there will be more :)
Much better coverage of the second punic war than Ive seen before! Great job. You can really visualise the context here.
Thank you kindly sir. Part 2 is being made right now.
No thank you!! Can't wait!
This has to my favorite history channel ever,From the young moment as a child, I always loved history and this channel reignited my passion of history.
If you like this sort of content be sure to also check EpicHistoryTV, BazBattles, Historia Civilis, Kings and Generals etc.
HistoryMarche already subbed to all of them
Thank you for showing the 'less important' battles (people just show Cannea and the two others and thats it). Pls show what Hannibal did for 10+ years in Italia after crushing 50k+ Romans. All youtubers just skip this part entirely.
That's the idea! Hope it works :D
Here here!
Depth and nuance are near dead... This style of vid doesn't lend itself to either very well but its nice to see something other than what's already out there for us to consume.
He basically got chased around and harassed by the Romans
@Romano Coombs I cant say that I agree with your statement that Zama was a draw, it was a Roman vicotry, and it was key to defeating Carthage, but I do agree that Fabian was very important as well and that without him the war could've been won by Carthage, but I don't think Rome (the city) would've fallen after losing at Cannae if that's what you're saying
Proud to be Carthaginian 🇹🇳❤️
You are Tunisian descendent of Carthage (unless you live in the city)
Most underrated history channel in youtube. One of the best ones i have ever seen so far. There is no other channel better than this one
Best coverage of this campaign I've found on youtube. Most videos race for the engagements on the Roman peninsula and so fail to establish the genius of Hannibal as a commander in these previous battles against the Gauls. Can't wait to watch Part II later today.
Thank you very much for your kind words.
I'm a simple man, I see History Marche I upvote
Hannibal: "I am a Big Shot Now"
Rome: We Noticed!!
Proud to be Tunisian and proud of our history ♥️🔥🇹🇳
This animation is brilliant. It really helps you visualize much better where all the strategic / geographic landmarks are. Super high quality stuff!
Thank you very much for the kind words.
At first I thought Baz battles was the best channel , then I saw kings and generals and changed my mind then I found Ancient History guy then I saw the true BEST CHANNEL
HISTORY MARCHE
Oh wow that's a huge compliment. Thank you sir.
HistoryMarche by the way I am uploaded my first video soon , probably today
Channel name = Fun history
I will mention you as you inspired me
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
YES, I've been searching for a video about Hannibal's genius in battle for ages, it's perfect ^^.
Keep it up , looking forward to seeing part 2.
Thumbs up before I even watch it. I've study and seen the story of Hannibal a million times, as I'm sure many of you history-philes have also, but I'm sure the quality of this video will be second to none.
It is so depressing to go watch these videos and realize how many people care more about the fake lives they are living in than learning from the past with awesome depictions like this. Job well done mate.
One of best historic educational video's ! Amazing depiction of battle strategies. Please continue ...
Continue I shall :)
The effects are absolutely incredible, not to mention the historical data used. I'd love it if you'd do the Battle of Posada, too!
I wish I had found your channel sooner; as a lover of history and high quality videos of said history your channel has blown me away becoming my favourite place to find and watch videos
Really glad to hear that. Welcome to the channel!
wow great video. So much accuracy and very simply put with out skipping much details. I think its gonna be great series of second punic war. Cant wait for part 2.
Loved the mini "squares" in that siege battle
He launched attack on Rome at age of 26 ,and i am thinking of doing mba at that age. Seriously legend
I really appreciate that you made a video about lesser covered events in the Punic Wars. By lesser, i mean anything besides the Battles of Trebia, Tresamene, or Cannae. This is how I learn history, and i cant learn anything when everybody keeps talking about the same events.
Glad you you found the information in the video useful. Thank you for watching.
Thank god more historical and battle simulation channels are popping up. all of you are amazing
definitely the best new channel on youtube!
Thank you sir, thank you.
I love me some good old Ancient Rome History.
This was very good. Not enough channels have the nerve to include a bit of humour, which also breaks up the incessant slaughter that these wars were. Very nicely done.
Thank you for the kind words.
Best historical battles channel
Thank you sir.
Another great video. I'm not suprised at the amount of Growth the channel has seen, great work. I've been around since ~600 subs, and now you have ~15,000, just wow.
Welcome back man! :D
I love your content
Thank you sir.
The best animated documentary of the 2nd Punic War ever seen: very detailed descriptions, beautiful animations, great music and sound effects (seems to me Rome Total War style). I almost forgot, your British accent is very elegant and very understandable, thanks a lot!
Wonderful video, best one yet! I have read so much about the Punic wars but there is something about how you present it all that gives me shivers and makes me want to stick my nose in the books all over. Great work! Keep this up and when i finish paying my student loans this summer I will have no choice but to become q patreon supporter!
Thank you for the kind words. Good luck with your studies!
Dude. Your videos are Beautiful! My favorite out of any similar channels. Thank you!
Just found this channel and im stunned by the work you put into your Videos. Im watching a lot Channels like this one, but your on of the smallest and best.
You are a great storyteller combining immaculate research with a captivating narrative and graphics with a bit of funny texts added...i think makes your videos a pleasure to watch. The punic wars are my favourite reads in historical warfare and your videos just add to the thrill! Thanks for making this.
Thank you for watching. Part 9 is nearly finished.
@@HistoryMarche i just binge watched the punic war series from Part 1 to part 7 across the night and morning and now in the middle of the battle of Ager Falernus. Cant wait for Part 9. Waiting eagerly for the battle of Cannae!
Thank you so much. This is the quality content i've been looking for.
Fantastic video! well done! There's not much content in internet about the Hannibal's conquests in Iberia.
I love history channels like these but this one is better than others because most others skip over the smaller parts of campaigns such as the siege of Saguntum but you showed the whole thing no matter how small it was. Keep up the good work, I am a huge history buff and love this channel so far
Thank you very much for the generous words. I tried hard to squeeze in more battle events along with a campaign map that follows a complex story, without making the video too long.
voiceover is amazing, animation is amazing, information is amazing, presenation if amazing, everything about this video is great
can't quit subscribing to so many history channels❤
great video !! greetings from tunisia homeland of ancient carthage
Thank you sir.
I am from Carthage...In Tunisia :)
Beautiful country.
Respect from Morocco to the sons of Carthage.
Brothers of Morroco
What I loved about the Ancient Carthaginians is that tombs would read "here lies a son of Tyre". They remained close to kin to their Phoenician city states.
Have you done dna test to see if you have any Levantine/semitic connection? Hannibal was a Phoenician and Phoenicians colonized and built Carthage.
Spectacular quality, keep these coming please!
I congratulate you. Sound effects, your pitch, map graphics and battle graphics were excellent. I found no historical errors. Music was wonderful. I also loved the setting. 10/10 keep it up!!!!
Thank you very much
I can’t watch these without needing to sit down to begin a serious Total War pc binge.
Great video 😎
Haha, feeding the gaming addiction :)
Dude the timing on this could not be more perfect since I’ve been on a Punic war binge as of recently. Great vid must see part 2 soon
Complement it with Invicta's awesome 4 part series on the First Punic War: ua-cam.com/video/HOk6ppoQrkw/v-deo.html
I think this would be the best history channel soon.
Thank you kindly sir.
What was more impressive:
Hannibal's trek over the Alps
Simon Bolivar's trek over the Andes
You earned my subscribe since the Battle of Vaslui
The same applies to me :D
And I have to say. What a great video was this one too. Can't wait for the next part.
Best of luck to you guys. May your efforts flourish and grow this channel into something truly amazing!
Deceneu ar trebui să îi sugerezi autorului să facă ceva despre războaiele dacice :D
Riften City Guard Salut. Desigur. Chiar am facut asta la video cu Vaslui. Cred ca am lasat 10 randuri cu sugestii :D
So that's the BCE era series that you were talking about!
thanks for all of you for bringing masterfully edited war history lessons to us.
Thank you for watching.
This is brilliant. I'm so happy I found this channel
Glad you enjoy it!
@@HistoryMarche I've seriously never seen anything of this caliber on UA-cam before. Keep up the exceptional work.
Greatest military tactician , Gengis Khan , Hannibal and Sun Tzu
Cao cao and Cyrus the great
If History Civilis and Kings and Generals had a baby it would be History Marche!
This is by far the best format (animation & information) i have seen. Keep it up.
Thank you once again great video! Your graphics are the best out of all the battle channels. Keep it up!
Awesome content and animations!
Thanks for your great work!
Much obliged!
Today was a good day for me
I love the maps you used for this video, especially the fact that you added the cities as well :)
Thank you very much
This is amazingly made, the map and the borders look so good and satisfying
Great video, loved the detail and animation. Looking forward to part two!
Thank you kindly! Part two is being made right now :) I hope to finish it by early-to-mid August.
Looking forward to it! Thanks for taking the time to respond!
Awesome work! Love what you’re doing, keep it up🙏🏼
Thank you for this wonderful video 👍greetings from algeria
Many Algerians love your channel
My mans Hannibal is the greatest.
Dude you deserve like 1 billion subscribers. Quality video. Brilliant stuff
Thank you very much :)
Great job! I've been watching your channel for a while and I love it!
loved how informative and detailed this video was on the Spanish theatre of war as this factor is often overlooked in the grand scheme of things but ultimately proved to be the greatest thorn in Carthage's side. Brilliant oratory and captivating camera work, a wonderful effort!
This is really good stuff, your narration also sounds very professional and it just sounds so good.
When this channel will hit big numbers I'll be proud to say I was here before 2000 subs!
... aaaand your comment just remembered me that I hadn't yet susbrcibed. It has been take care of now.
Oh man, I can’t wait for part two!
I think I've watched this one 5 times now... Every time a new one is uploaded I just start with this and move to the next... 3 installments plus a few extra just cuz they're really good, and Hannibal was the man, such an interesting figure and life with a sad ending that I don't think was fitting, cartaginian culture must have been hardcore ... I wish we had more info, the city must have truly been a sight to behold at any number of points in its history.
Thanks again for the quality uploads.
Thank you so much for watching. It's great to you see that the series has replay-value for you. Cheers!
@@HistoryMarche I just went ahead and watched all your uploads since I posted this.
Watching everything again back to back really did show how much things changed while still feeling the same... They've really sharpened up honestly, but to just watch a single video they are deceptively different and ever improving.
Really highlighted vlad was a serious leader and the Mongols at mohi was great!
Wish there was more info about the specifics of their battles so you could accurately create a solid series on any of them... Such proficient raiders and conquerors but so little has come down to us.
Great work, so glad you're uploading regularly and supporting other channels.
Keep the goods coming!
Carthage was certainly hard core. They were known to crucify commanders who lost, and the people practiced child sacrifice.
These videos are really high quality. I can already tell your channel is going to grow.
.. still waiting for part II! Looking forward to it
Don't worry the series won't be abandoned
I don't really care about the history and stuff behind the battles. I just come for the tactics involved and the battle itself!
Awesome videos you guys' come up with. As someone that's a big fan of Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, it's great to get a visual of some of the stories I've heard at length.
Thank you sir. I too am a great fan of Carlin's material.
Another high quality history channel. Love and support
Outstanding!
I'm subbed to all the similar history based channels, love them all, but your animations on another level!
The improvement is noticeable from this upload to the last, this is a cut above the others in animation but more importantly, its easy to follow mentally... But just like any of the other channels... A moments lapse of attention merits a rewind... Miss a few seconds of narration and you're behind, but that's the nature of the beast... No room for filler when condensing decades into minutes.
I wish I could suggest a "better" model for you to follow, but I THINK the masses have spoken and this is the preferred style.
Personally, the longer and more in depth... The better!
To be fair my absolute favorites are dan carlin and daneilli bolelli, but that won't fly on UA-cam and animating something like a 5-12 hour series just isn't possible for the channels here.
Keep it up, the subs are coming!
P.s.
Hannibal was really something else and doesn't get his due... While the romans might get more than they deserve... History isn't always fair...
Thanks! Glad you like the changes! Without the input from the viewers it's quite possible that I wouldn't have spotted even half of what was suggested. Cheers!
Great! You should do the battle of Marasti/Marasesti in WW1 in Romania,it was the most important battle from WW1 in Romania.
Yes! You've curtailed the voice form the Napoleon video. This is amazing! Bravo Sir, I could watch this one all day.
Three very years of content solely on just Hannibal, I can't wait to binge this and what other works HistoryMarche has created. I'm looking forward to it! :)
