Paint Correction - Burned Through Clear Coat - How to Blend

- This episode side tracks away from the progress of the car but it has been a blemish on the car that has been driving me crazy. A while back i wet sanded the clear coat and burned through it exposing the basecoat layer. Rather then leaving it i decided to do a paint correction. I visited my local body shop, spoke with the reps there and they gave me a good insight on what to do and try. If i failed i would just simply re clear the whole panel. Luckily it didnt have to come to that and the repair came out excellent. It requires a good solid week or so before i wet sand and blend the 2 separate clear coat jobs together but i think the issue is solved. i used a 2k clear coat along with a blending solvent to allow an effective transition between the clear coat jobs. Enjoy

Was depressed because I wet sanded through the clear on the new paint job on my truck. That fix seemed pretty easy peasy - I feel better now. Thanks.
Thanks for the great video. I just sanded through basecoat on a bodyline as well so this helps. Btw, I dig your TMW sweatshirt! I'm also a fellow Hodgetwins fan.
Great job man - I need to do this on my 9th gen Accord coupe this weekend, super helpful to see the blending process in action. The first time I tried to use blending solvent I got a couple runs - you really do need to just mist it on there.
Hello, a question, I used duplicolor base and clear coat and have two issues. Me repair is not as shiny as factory finish, even after buffing and polishing. I don't think the clear coat was applied heavy enough and the quality would ever be shiny enough. Questions, would it be advisable to scuff my repair and use 2 k clear? Would the factory finish match my 2 k spray repair? If I use the 2k, would I simply be trading the mismatch repair from not enough shine to too much shine?
Thanks
Dust coat is a great way to make orange peel in your clear. You want your first coat of clear to look like your last. As glossy as possible without runs.
Good job.
Info on the aerosol clear please. Thank you.
I know this is an older post, but if you still need the info the aerosol clear is Spraymax 2k glamour high gloss clear coat part # 3680061.
So if wet sand through clear you use solvent to fix?
Use a solvent blend to merge old and new clear together vs just spraying on new clear and creating a layers edge which overtime will chip away
So will it fix my issue?
Worked for me, been a year and is looking good
