I’m having the same issue tonight. Just did a firmware update a minute ago and gonna try it again tomorrow after I give it a full charge. Fingers crossed that it’s not a bad unit.
Thank you for posting this. I'm glad I'm not the only one having trouble, but my problem is the exact opposite. My gimbal forces itself into portrait mode. I keep balancing it horizontally, and it forces itself back into portrait mode. Last night, I filmed with it balanced horizontally, but the video was sideways, as if the gimbal insisted on using portrait mode while the phone was positioned sideways. I just got off of the phone with DJI. At first, they kept insisting that I was not balancing it properly, but telling them about your video helped them listen. They asked me to send it back for a repair. Hopefully, I won't have to pay for it.
I've had my OM2 for six months and I just tried portrait mode for the first time today. Same issue as what you have. That's how I found your video. All I wanted to do was see if it would capture a better 360 pano compared to bring in landscape mode. Now, I'm going to see if I can send it back for a replacement without any of the packaging. :/
Turns out you need to tighten the knob on the back! When it is loose it does this on mine on both portrait and landscape orientation. When the knob is tight, no problems!
Mine doesn’t work either and thought I was doing something wrong. Glad to see it’s a hardware issue. Not glad that so many people in the comments in this video alone are having issues. Time to head back to Apple!
got mine to work finally!!! 1) turn the handle controls so that they face the ground 2) hold osmo by the first arm near the handle 3) balance where phone display faces the ground and "up" is away from the handle 4) turn it on while initially oriented like this and make sure no vector is resisting your grip
Chris Brockhurst i have the same problem. A friend bought it from an apple store and brought it to me in Sénégal. I Can't do portrait. Should i give her to return it?
Any idea what to do if you can see part of the Mobile 2 in your shot? I use a Samsung Galaxy S9 and I can see part of the rotation motor on the right-hand side of my shots. I've tried it with and without the case.
I tried that but if you push it out in the cradle, you have to rebalance by sliding the cradle closer... putting it right back where it was before you slid it out.
Chris Brockhurst that's okay, I've return it and waiting for my replacement. But the technician was kinda annoying coz he said that it's normal bcoz the gimbal isn't balanced :(
Nando Sang Putra well mine was properly balanced and it didn’t work, did exactly the same balance on the new one and it’s fine. So there’s definitely a batch out there that don’t work properly in portrait id say. It’s great now it works though!
Chris Brockhurst yepp, I even ask dji support via facebook messenger about this problem, and they said even if the gimbal isn't balance, the motor should work fine, though the battery may drop faster
I don't have the noise but my iPhone 7 seems to be not heavy enough to weigh down one side to make the balance equal... either really annoying or I'm doing something wrong.
I live in Ghana (Africa), and unfortunately we don't have an apple store, so i didn't even consider getting a warranty because sending it back to the states would be a hassle.
I did everything you did here and mine doesn't work either. It doesn't make a weird noise but it flashes yellow and doesn't stabilize properly and just gives up. Works fine in horizontal just a little confused. If anyone has a solution lmk!
Please I need your help,,i really hope to answer me because i cant find a solution... I just bought Osmo 2 and I already have s10+ Samsung...so i balance my phone in gimbal perfectly but my problem is this...when i try with the joystick to turn the gimbal left or right it doesn't do a horizontal flat move but it does something like a wave movement and lose completely the flat horizontial move that normally should do,,i am so disappointed 😭😭
I am also having trouble in setting up in portrait mode! . If I balance it completely, then the phone is set up in such a way that part of gimbal is visible in the camera, which is kinda obstructing my vid
Chris Brockhurst iPhone X , I got that last weekend . Directly from DJI, I tried once only to set up but not successful I will give a try again to see if the issue persists otherwise DJI should do something.
It should work ok then.. I have the iPhone X and it works ok (since I have the replacement) and don’t have those issues. Might be worth posting on DJIs forum
Finally I am able to Balance the gimbal perfectly in portrait mode, though it was more clear in your video, how to set it up rather than the actual Demo from DJI, Thanks!. But part of the Gimbal is visible in the camera view. Seems I will have to report to DJI, and see if they can do anything..
Okay upon watching this video now, I have two problems. One. Yes mine does the same thing Two. I have Galaxy S9+ and I can see the gimbal's arm in Vertical mode, does anyone else have this problem?
If you have the same issue I would recommend returning/exchanging, there was nothing I could do to fix it and when the new one arrived it didn't have that issue. Hearing alot of people with the same problem in portrait mode too, being able to see the arm that is.
That’s what I was going to say! The balancing seems like the hardest part, but you can only use it in selfie mode, turned to portrait. Otherwise, you see the arm. Today, I was recording a motion timelapse for IGTV and halfway through the gimbal just failed and continued recording in landscape. I’m probably going to return this and skip the iPhone gimbal and just invest in a crane or ronin for my big-boy camera.
I had the same problem until I realized the I didnt tight up the big nob :D now it works perfectly! :D
I am facing the same problm. Pls Can u explain hw u fix this .
I’m having the same issue tonight. Just did a firmware update a minute ago and gonna try it again tomorrow after I give it a full charge. Fingers crossed that it’s not a bad unit.
hopefully the firmware update fixes for you Craig. Nothing worked for mine, it was definitely a dud unit. The new one works great!

Megan Frisbie that’s a new issue I havnt heard of? They seem to be good with getting it replaced so I wouldn’t worry 😀
Thank you :)

There’s definitely an issue with some of them. My replacement works great!!
Turns out you need to tighten the knob on the back! When it is loose it does this on mine on both portrait and landscape orientation. When the knob is tight, no problems!
Hmmm wish my issue was that simple 😂
@@chrisbrockhurst in the video it wasn’t tightened on the back the first time. Could have been the problem
I have the same issue, I return it now waiting for new one and finger crossed that would be fine and no problems in portrait mode!!
Vladimir Dobrasinovic new one has no issues and works great 😁
top! I get new one tomorrow so lets see!
Mine doesn’t work either and thought I was doing something wrong. Glad to see it’s a hardware issue. Not glad that so many people in the comments in this video alone are having issues. Time to head back to Apple!
David - take it back and get another, there is no fix other than a new one. Seems to be a common issue with all cheaper mobile gimbals
@@chrisbrockhurst Thanks! I'll be sure to do that! I've been creating content for IG Stories and this would make a huge difference!! Cheers!
it's vibrating because you didn't tighten the rear
knob
Love this already! Super nice works great
I also had the same problem. Then I figured out that I didn't tight up the knob behind it ... And walahh it worked perfectly
Wish that could have fixed mine 🤷🏻♂️
I got one today, can’t get portrait mode to stay stable, thanks for posting this, ours maybe faulty
theres definitely an issue, send it back and get a replacement, my 2nd one works great.
Anyone thinking of buying this?
got mine to work finally!!!
1) turn the handle controls so that they face the ground

3) balance where phone display faces the ground and "up" is away from the handle
4) turn it on while initially oriented like this and make sure no vector is resisting your grip
neaumusic I tried that, and no luck 🧐 mine was definitely faulty because the new one works fine!
Chris Brockhurst i have the same problem. A friend bought it from an apple store and brought it to me in Sénégal. I Can't do portrait. Should i give her to return it?
Apples warranty is normally international, check with your local Apple store.. if you have them in Senegal?
Any idea what to do if you can see part of the Mobile 2 in your shot? I use a Samsung Galaxy S9 and I can see part of the rotation motor on the right-hand side of my shots. I've tried it with and without the case.
Todd Stowe hmmmm weird, might be the size of the s9. You could try pushing it further to the left as far as you can and rebalance
I tried that but if you push it out in the cradle, you have to rebalance by sliding the cradle closer... putting it right back where it was before you slid it out.
Nice. Thx you
Thanks for the headsup! I canceled my buying right after watching this!
Do you find any fix to the problem? I have the same problem :(
Nando Sang Putra the fix was to return it and get another one, something was broken! Probably not what you want to hear, sorry!
Chris Brockhurst that's okay, I've return it and waiting for my replacement. But the technician was kinda annoying coz he said that it's normal bcoz the gimbal isn't balanced :(

Chris Brockhurst yepp, I even ask dji support via facebook messenger about this problem, and they said even if the gimbal isn't balance, the motor should work fine, though the battery may drop faster
Nando Sang Putra that’s exactly true, same applies to my larger crane.
WOOOOOW We use it!
I don't have the noise but my iPhone 7 seems to be not heavy enough to weigh down one side to make the balance equal... either really annoying or I'm doing something wrong.
I have the same problem going to return mine bummed I wish it worked
fingers crossed the replacement works for you
Mine works but the thing behind it blocks the view and its annoying
hmmm I don't think it should do that. something must not be right
Hey what's the water can? Need this in my life ;)
i have the same problem, also bought it from apple but no warranty *sigh*
how come no warranty?
I live in Ghana (Africa), and unfortunately we don't have an apple store, so i didn't even consider getting a warranty because sending it back to the states would be a hassle.

Is that Texas Thrift??

Hemank Narula glad you got it balanced, yeh DJIs tutorial isnt very easy to understand!
Preciso muito aprender inglês!!! Gostaria tanto de entender o que diz!!
with the help of google translate... Eu não falo português, mas o google translate faz. Sim você faz :)
Dice funciona todo bien. Pero no en vertical jajaja
I had the same problem in the start, and then it just stopped randomly xd
MKVD not sure if that’s good or bad 🤨
Chris Brockhurst yeah... Seems to be fine for now 🤔
I had the same, just send my back.
fingers crossed the replacement works!!
