I've been using it for the past 2 years as well and it's been my mainstay. It's an exceptional camera.

I've been using the A7RV since it was released, and I can say it's the perfect camera for me (stills photographer). I paired it with the tiny A7CR, which is a mini A7RV, which I prefer for discrete street or travel shooting. I added an extended 3rd party eyecup for the EVF, and with that the A7CR EVF "good enough for what it's for".

Which eyecup did you get for the A7RC? That’s my biggest gripe about that camera. Even the 6700 has an eyecup :/

@@mikethecreativekiorafoto or Amazon choice. It’s not exactly premium quality, but it’s cheap and does the job, especially in sunny conditions.

@@chrisbrockhurst I agree with you., is not that is not worth the upgrade but look at the upgrades very minimalism, I decided to go with the Sony A7CII after selling my 2 cameras 7III. a month ago. and NOT buying the 7IV because first, was going to be almost 5 years older, compared to the new 7CII. with will be only 1-2 years old and has the same features except two that I don't really need. I love my new Sony A7CII. size wise, design, features, I just love it. hs it all.

Absolutely love my A7RV. Color science is a notable step up from the A7iii. Tons of connectivity. Obviously resolution - but along with that a ton of flexibility in size/format. And video is actually excellent for talking head style content which doesn't suffer from rolling shutter issues.

It’s interesting you say that you don’t see them out in the wild. I do video for weddings and SO MANY photographers are switching to Sony, and this is a top choice

Agreed Chris. I bought the A7RV to complement my A7Siii and over time the A7RV proved to be the better hybrid. It’s my go-to favorite. I do miss full readout, 120p after selling the A7siii, but A7RV is just a generation ahead, especially for autofocus.

Have it paired with a Sony 20mm 1.8 and Tamron 35-150.
Been my hybrid camera for the past, almost year .

I use the R ii ... bad ass beast in video and equal in photo. Hybrid mode there's no change in quality or anything. R series cameras are for whatever reason inside of camera clubs are so underrated

Fabulous for photo, less so for video, which is how I use it. Mostly I love it for it’s size & weight vs image quality, lens options and ability to extend lenses to the equivalent of 24mp full frame cameras such as Tamron 28-75 at 61mp and at a rotation of a dial, 42-110 at 26mp.

  • @Hobbies4Hire

Great job on the video Chris! Thanks for making it. I rented an A7RV one weekend and fell in love with the 61MP for cropping. I didn't really care about full-frame (I shoot my video work on an FX30 and my general purpose walk-around is an A6700) it was the resolution that sold me. If I want to make art this is the camera I reach for.

I've been dreaming about RIII for so many years and finally got it, I don't like everything, but I'll test it. RIII has always been rated very well, even now, but R IV never seemed to come out, all the glory went to V

Hi Chris, what is your approach to shooting the weddings, do you shoot everything at 60p ? Or do you keep switching between 24p and 60p throughout the day?

  • @yamato_photography

I had my A7R5 almost a 1 year now, although not used that must time compare to you but I very enjoy using it.
Recently, I saw the the rumors of A1 ii, at that moment I want it so bad but I think with myself: Am I really need that? Because I want a camera that can everything(Both photos and video)
Now I think I will stick to my A7R5 and probably wait for maybe A7R6 that hopefully have improved body(Like A9iii), speed(better rolling stutter) and maybe more fps in photos(15-25fps is more then I need)

I would definitely recommend testing it out ahead of time. I hired a second for a wedding a couple months ago and they shot using the A7RV on the lower megapixel option and it absolutely destroyed the highlights, in editing I could not pull back any highlights, so just a kind warning! Test before using at a wedding!

It's my main camera and I'm love with it, the only thing it's that I cannot manage the correct video format to edit in premier, every time that im trying to import a file premiere gets freeze, then I need to downgrade the quality of the files with the Handbrake app, which format can you recommend me to configure my A7RV video files?
Thanks always for sharing your knowledge Chris!

I’ve had good luck in Premiere with xavc-s. The file sizes are probably bigger but I think easier to process. Haven’t done much with 8k yet. Also, Catalyst Browse is helpful for viewing all the different Sony codecs.

  • @afferist

R V everything is cool, finally a good screen and viewfinder, but the most important thing I don’t like is that there is noise already at ISO 200-400, just like on crop cameras.

i've a7r5 and a7iii ...unfortunally i use so often the a7iii for sport events, for the giant files that the a7r5 produces.
BUT...i will update my macbook air with a new MacMini for editing stuff...
Can you tell me how work the healing brush tool on Lightroom with the M4 if you have it?!

  • @goodwolf152
    @goodwolf152 11 годин тому

A7rV is a monster. Only thing it can’t do is speed. Other than that, it’s sort of in a class of its own. To get what this camera gives you, you have to drop 7 G’s on a Leica that has bad autofocus and an even worse burst rate. Other manufacturers’ “hi-resolution” bodies offer 25% less resolution.
IMO, if speed is not high on your list of needs, an argument could be made that the A7rV is the greatest camera ever made.

I had the Sony A7RIII which is a great Camera and now cheaper than a Sony A7IV ! I also had the Sony A7RIV, now I have the Sony A7RIVA and the Sony A7RV, the A7RV I primarly use for tele Lenses because the IBIS is very good and the autofocus with tele Lenses for people, animals or birds in motion is very good. I swapped my old Sony A7RIV to the A7RV this summer when it was on sale at a low price. I can highly recommend the Sony A7RV !

Funny enough, I’ve been debating between getting this (a7rv) or the the a7iv. This camera will be used for photography and a secondary video camera to my FX3.
    Which one do you recommend?

I looked long and hard at both before buying the RV. So glad I did. It’s a fabulous bit of kit. Compared to the iv it’s way ahead. Particularly that screen and the extraordinary 61mp sensor which turns all my prime lenses into zoom. Go the RV. (I don’t shoot video)

Worst rolling shutter and soft binned or line skipped video (maybe that softness makes it cinematic...) :D. Plus crops in 4K 60, 8K, ... no thanks :D. I am waiting for the A7V in the Q1 2025. If they partially stack the A7IV sensor it will be the best hybrid with a Sony badge. A7rV... it is a photo camera. Even the A7IV is a better hybrid. It lacks the great screen mechanism but ... it is much cheaper.
PS yes rolling shutter is a problem that can be fixed in post a little but... no thanks.

BTW the A1 is soon going to be cheaper :) and I think it is a much better camera than the A7rV in terms of sensor and end results. The menus and controls are worse but the sensor is amazing for stills and video. No surprise they used it in the Burano...

      @urbanie 14 годин тому

its like medium format, the rolling shutter is indeed terrible. no video quality issues ive noticed though. works just as well as a7iv, a7siii. but atleast the crop is 1.24x instead of 1.5x
