It should be mentioned that the Android app for the Zhiyun 4 is really bad. Lots of reviewers saying the Zhiyun 4 is really good but they seem to exclusively use iPhone. Many functions of the Zhiyun do not work on Android. I initially bought the Zhiyun and had to return it for the Osmo.

I bought my smooth 4 today, and i have sofar tested it with both Oneplus 5T and a S9+...and it worked like a charm, the 4k60fps isnquestionable though. however all of the other functions did work except 3 issues with the opo5t, which was random BT disconnects and also gimbal stops working after using object tracking, which by the way worked very well and smooth on both phones. the third issue on the OPO5T was the zoomwheel, its choppy as in all other android reviews, which makes Vertigo effect impossible. However, the vertigo and zoom worked very well on the S9+. worth to mention is that it jist verybrecently i think 29th of june came an app update for ZY Play, so they are atleast doing stuff. im not ready to give up mine for sure.
mckenley mason it does work, 4k@30fps. but i have not yet verified the recording, to see the overall quality. and to add on my experience on the smooth4+android. i have had a really good time with it, all functions work except vertigo on the opo5. also i find having the camera settings to manual can improve your shots greatly. good lightning, low ISO and 60fps is nice. also i have only had a few bluetooth disconnects, since the patch object tracking works better. except on iphone. object tracking on iphone is very slow and non reacting. atleast with the IP i tried it with i think it was a 6 or 7. Batterytime of the smooth is also very impressive. 😊
I like the features of the Zhiyun Smooth 4 but I feel that the DJI App is more refined and the object tracking is much better not to mention if you use Filmic Pro, which a lot of mobile filmmakers use, you can control Filmic Pro with the zoom trigger and joystick.
I love my Osmo Mobile 2! I got fantastic time lapse and hyper lapse shots as well as nice stable footage. You're right about the build quality and feel of the osmo mobile 2. I feel like even a cheap rubberized grip would have gone along way to improve the feel.
Waiting for your Hero 7 Black and DJI Osmo Pocket. Thanks for being one of the few reviewers who make videos at a UA-cam compatible 30/60fps framerate. Most of the other "experts" 24/25fps reviews simply have too much Judder to figure out if the shakiness is from the product or my monitor waiting for a new frame 6 times per second. 😎👍
Smooth 4 is the better buy just need a software tweak. It looks professional with more features and capabilities . the jock wheel that zooms and focus , the front triggers I’m sold , technology put into it , I honestly believe it is worth buying for the low price they are selling for to take entry level professional video shots

With the Samsung I’d go with the DJI. Unless you want all the buttons it’s the one I prefer and works pretty darn well. Someone commented on Monday’s video that Zhiyun gimbals have always had a problem with android devices 🤔
The smooth 4 works best with iPhones, and theres features on the Smooth 4 that others dont have such as turn the gimbal one side facing something, then your B point on another side and then press start and it moves itself from A to B, theres a video of some indian sounding guy that did it and it works very well.
The Moza mini-mi looks like the gimbal to watch out for. A 300 gram payload, wireless charging, and some attractive features make this the phone gimbal to look at when it releases this month. I've been waiting to pull the trigger on a cell phone gimbal for awhile and am going to jump on the moza and pre-order.
Really love your videos. One suggestion you may want to consider normalizing your audio so that your dialog matches the volume of your music. Not an issue in this one but is a big deal in others. Have to keep my finger on the volume button on my TV remote. Keep up the great work!
The Everyday Dad you can normalize in most editing apps. I'm sure your know this but in the Adobe Creative Cloud world you can use Audition to match the dialog and music. If not there are plenty of apps to help match audio levels.
Great review! Yeah, Android users should shy away from Smooth 4. Zhiyun have crippled the functionality for Android users. NO 4k, slo mo only at 720p, no hyperlapse and the app in general is buggy. I updated the firmware twice and the ZY Play app three times and still buggy. Returning my Smooth 4 to get the Osmo 2. Cheers.
Thanks for the comparison. Yet, for my use, all of these types of gimbals are much too limited for my needs. There are 2 reasons I returned my gimbal, which happened to be the Osmo mobile two. 1. none of these gimbals offer a remote to control the device, such as mounting on a tripod at a party or other event (it's a solely hands-on device) and 2. none of these gimbals offer any automatic function to record video or take random pictures while slowly rotating automatically in a programmed direction on a tripod. Without these features, I find that I can just use my stabilized camcorder or just the stabilized mobile phone. Let me know if I am missing something about that concerns these 2 features.
I think the loss of the joystick control and 360 rotation (why does nobody mention loss of 360?!) was a mistake on Smooth 4 design. I'd still like to get one to try it out, but with all those hardware buttons tied to their app it's less usable than Smooth Q in a phone native camera app.
Netcruzer RC TECH CARS yes you are right. I checked a video which filmed by a boss in a retailer. He said,in 2018,manufacturers try to keep price low. But the costs are increasing,especially labourer cost in China! So they can do cost reductions just only its design and materials. You can find out all these gimbals with affordable price,they are rarely designed with 360 rotation. That design would be higher class,in other words,you need to pay more to get it!
I was able to get my 8 plus to somewhat balance and charge using a 90 plug cord. You can’t do a lot of big movements, but if you are doing small movements, I had no major issues.
swooshdave I used that angle plug and it causes the phone to stick out a bit more which throws the balance off the gimbal. But it still works as long as you don’t jerk it around much
swooshdave the moza gimbal coming out this month will charge your phone wirelessly so something like the 8 plus won't have a problem. It's also rated for phones up to 300 grams and looks like balancing won't be an issue.
Do you have to fit your smartphone dead central in the gimbal before using it ? My phone (Nokia 7+) has the on/off button almost exactly half way down the side, meaning the gimbal clamp would interfere with it. Is there any solution to this problem ? Now I know why iPhones are so popular with vloggers.

Thanks for the nice video. I got the Smooth 4 last week and had great expectations, but it simply didn’t work. The app did not connect to any of my phones (iphone 8+, Samsung A5 and wife’s iphone 8), so returned it today. Looks like a really cool tool (hardware), but until they solve their connectivity issues, I’d recommend to stay away from it.
Which works better with Filmic Pro? I think this is a key question not really answered on reviews. The OSMO has an option to set in Filmic and the Smooth 4 I don't think does. However, how well does the Smooth 4 work in filmic Pro?
i just got the Smooth 4 and it works just fine with my S7 edge, i was not aware of the problem ppl talk about. The only problem i found is that the zoom function works either too fast or too slow or skips some lvl´s of phone zoom steps, allso when u put the focus on manual and u are just 1 step away from the auto mode( its the last lvl of zooming in manual ), für some reason when u hit the record button it jumps to auto zoom it self and then quickly back to your pre set zoom lvl, so i had to cut out the beginning of the vid(because the focus changes back and forth 2-3 times) . But once u know this glitch , u can go around it by waiting 2 sec after u start the record, or dont start to record manula zoom at 1 lvl away from auto zoom lvl. allso another thing i hate is the angle the motors are allowed to work , u can swing ur arm only 60ˇ to the left but 100ˇ to your right, going over that and u will make the phone lose the linement of the shot. Allso u cant just turn ur gimbal upside down and film very close the road , the restriction of the motors prevent from u to to have it upside down , u have to have ur arm like somewhat 45ˇ (counting from the top) and then gimbal motors have spear space to work with your phone. I notest that this motor lock problem is not only at the 140 bucks model problem , but allso mutch bigger and mutch more "pro" models that go für 800 bucks, at that price range DJI had one where u can just run around your own camera (holding the gimbal )and nother would be wrong with it, but Zhiyun motor A only allowed 350ˇ spin.
It depends upon which cell phone you use together with the gimbal. Both of these gimbals does not work well with Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact. Then you easily will drop your phone that cost four to five times of the gimbal. These gimbals are only built for thin phones with a flat back.

The Procam 5 app. Feature called 4K Max, where it captures 12MP photos at up to 30 fps on iPhone 6s and later. Neither digital nor OIS video stabilization are supported, effectively solving the problem. The app's page says "we recommend the use of a tripod or a gimbal" in this mode.

I'm on the fence on getting the Smooth 4 because I have an S8 as an everyday phone. However, we have a spare iPhone 5S on our home, I just want to know if the 5S is good enough at the mean time for the ZY Play app?
They both do the same, using an iPhone will cause jitters no matter which you use. I’ve never taken real estate footage but I’d get something like the regular Osmo that has a camera built in and shouldn’t suffer the same effects.

Im debating between these two at the moment. Seen a couple reviews and I'm swinging to the smooth 4 but youtube comments seem to be the opposite. Mainly due to software but this is something that can and will be updated on the app store so with an update inevitable in the not so distant future would people still suggest the osmo 2 over the smooth 4? I will be new to using a gimbal and people are also saying that the osmo 2 is easier straight out the box. But i am willing to learn and perfect the use of the gimbal. Qn. When using Oneplus 5T on smooth 3, I had issues when I change from Landscape to Portrait. The phone won't be able to be in perfect upright position due to the space limitation. Is it the same for Smooth 4? Thanks.

I just got the Zhiyun yesterday, took a few videos last night and I didn't have any problems with the app crashing. I'm using a galaxy S9, upgrading to an S10 on the 10th so that should be interesting.
It’s a counter weight I had on hand from my feiyutech g5. I’m sure you could get some heavy things from a home improvement store that you could use in lieu of.
It is bizzare that neither company mentions Android phone compatibility list. 85% of people use Android. It is down right scam if a phone can't shoot 4k in zy play or dji go app while using their gimbal product! How hard can it be for Zhiyun and DJI to warn their prospective customers before purchase? E.g up to 1080p 30p, Samsung s8 note8 s9 s9+, up to 1080p60p, oneplus 5, up to 4k30p, pixel 2, up to 4k60p, iPhone x
I'm using zs4 with samsung S9+ (zy app 1.94 fw 1.76 last one). Zy play : 180 pano not always working. 3x3 not working at all. Slowmo : not yet tested. Sometime the gimbal become uncontrollable (I don't know if it's the fault of zy play or if a had a defective unit!!!!!). Gimbal guide is not good : doesn't explain correctly how the PF or lock mode is working. You always have to hint, experiment or search on web before understanding how the gimbal works. Zy play not well explained to easily understand how to use it (it's not a user friendly app). Zy play don't notify you about firmware update (you have to check manually on website ... I hope that zhiyun will correct all android users's issues in a future and nearby fw or zy play update.
I first bought the Zhiyun Smooth Q gimbal but returned it because the ZY play app is absolutely horrendous for Android. Read the reviews for the app on Google Play.. it really is that bad.
I have an LG G6 and ran into all sorts of issues with the ZY Play app - tracking did not work very well, when filming the camera lost focus and the only way to get it back was to restart the app, and other issues. Which is really too bad since the gimbal itself was nice. *Edit* I bought an OM2 today, waiting for it to arrive

I saw another review and the Smooth 4 did not track at all. It could not lock on the target. Did you have the same experience

Well, that's what you said already. My assumption is that they don't really want you plugging a phone in while the gimbal is flailing around.

The app did not connect to any of my phones (iphone 8+, Samsung A5 and wife’s iphone 8), so returned it today. Looks like a really cool tool (hardware), but until they solve their connectivity issues, I’d recommend to stay away from it.
Which works better with Filmic Pro? I think this is a key question not really answered on reviews. The OSMO has an option to set in Filmic and the Smooth 4 I don't think does. However, how well does the Smooth 4 work in filmic Pro?
i just got the Smooth 4 and it works just fine with my S7 edge, i was not aware of the problem ppl talk about.
The only problem i found is that the zoom function works either too fast or too slow or skips some lvl´s of phone zoom steps, allso when u put the focus on manual and u are just 1 step away from the auto mode( its the last lvl of zooming in manual ), für some reason when u hit the record button it jumps to auto zoom it self and then quickly back to your pre set zoom lvl, so i had to cut out the beginning of the vid(because the focus changes back and forth 2-3 times) . But once u know this glitch , u can go around it by waiting 2 sec after u start the record, or dont start to record manula zoom at 1 lvl away from auto zoom lvl. allso another thing i hate is the angle the motors are allowed to work , u can swing ur arm only 60ˇ to the left but 100ˇ to your right, going over that and u will make the phone lose the linement of the shot. Allso u cant just turn ur gimbal upside down and film very close the road , the restriction of the motors prevent from u to to have it upside down , u have to have ur arm like somewhat 45ˇ (counting from the top) and then gimbal motors have spear space to work with your phone. I notest that this motor lock problem is not only at the 140 bucks model problem , but allso mutch bigger and mutch more "pro" models that go für 800 bucks, at that price range DJI had one where u can just run around your own camera (holding the gimbal )and nother would be wrong with it, but Zhiyun motor A only allowed 350ˇ spin.

Yeah absolutely, I use the native camera app on my s9 when using a gimbal 👍
It depends upon which cell phone you use together with the gimbal. Both of these gimbals does not work well with Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact. Then you easily will drop your phone that cost four to five times of the gimbal. These gimbals are only built for thin phones with a flat back.

I bought my smooth 4 today, and i have sofar tested it with both Oneplus 5T and a S9+...and it worked like a charm, the 4k60fps is questionable though. however all of the other functions did work except 3 issues with the opo5t, which was random BT disconnects and also gimbal stops working after using object tracking, which by the way worked very well and smooth on both phones. the third issue on the OPO5T was the zoomwheel, its choppy as in all other android reviews, which makes Vertigo effect impossible. However, the vertigo and zoom worked very well on the S9+. worth to mention is that it just very recently (i think 29th of june) came an update for ZY Play, so they are atleast doing stuff. im not ready to give up mine for sure.

The Procam 5 app. Feature called 4K Max, where it captures 12MP photos at up to 30 fps on iPhone 6s and later. Neither digital nor OIS video stabilization are supported, effectively solving the problem. The app's page says "we recommend the use of a tripod or a gimbal" in this mode.

They both do the same, using an iPhone will cause jitters no matter which you use.
I’ve never taken real estate footage but I’d get something like the regular Osmo that has a camera built in and shouldn’t suffer the same effects.

Im debating between these two at the moment. Seen a couple reviews and I'm swinging to the smooth 4 but youtube comments seem to be the opposite. Mainly due to software but this is something that can and will be updated on the app store so with an update inevitable in the not so distant future would people still suggest the osmo 2 over the smooth 4? I will be new to using a gimbal and people are also saying that the osmo 2 is easier straight out the box. But i am willing to learn and perfect the use of the gimbal.

Qn. When using Oneplus 5T on smooth 3, I had issues when I change from Landscape to Portrait. The phone won't be able to be in perfect upright position due to the space limitation. Is it the same for Smooth 4? Thanks.

I got 3 questions (since I can only purchace one of them):
1) Osmo Mobile 2 just got free mode et full follow mode, isn't not hard to record video with it without Only pan follow because it was the only mode that I was using on Feiyutech SPG. With Joystick it's definitly not the same
2) Did you experience a lot Zhiyun Autofocus search during you shot ?
3) I love smooth 4 for his Shortcuts + Phone Go but the Software and compatibility with Android is much higher on Mobile 2... If you have to go for a shot this afternoon but only 1 room is still available for one Gimbal ib your bag...which one you will take ? (Hard one :-) )

I just got the Zhiyun yesterday, took a few videos last night and I didn't have any problems with the app crashing. I'm using a galaxy S9, upgrading to an S10 on the 10th so that should be interesting.

The lower thirds are just regular fcpx. The scrolling text with the specs is a purchased plugin from motionvfx called mcallouts 👍

It’s a counter weight I had on hand from my feiyutech g5. I’m sure you could get some heavy things from a home improvement store that you could use in lieu of.

It is bizzare that neither company mentions Android phone compatibility list. 85% of people use Android. It is down right scam if a phone can't shoot 4k in zy play or dji go app while using their gimbal product! How hard can it be for Zhiyun and DJI to warn their prospective customers before purchase? E.g up to 1080p 30p, Samsung s8 note8 s9 s9+, up to 1080p60p, oneplus 5, up to 4k30p, pixel 2, up to 4k60p, iPhone x

I'm using zs4 with samsung S9+ (zy app 1.94 fw 1.76 last one).
Zy play :
180 pano not always working.
3x3 not working at all.
Slowmo : not yet tested.
Sometime the gimbal become uncontrollable (I don't know if it's the fault of zy play or if a had a defective unit!!!!!). Gimbal guide is not good : doesn't explain correctly how the PF or lock mode is working. You always have to hint, experiment or search on web before understanding how the gimbal works.
Zy play not well explained to easily understand how to use it (it's not a user friendly app).
Zy play don't notify you about firmware update (you have to check manually on website ... I hope that zhiyun will correct
all android users's issues in a future and nearby fw or zy play update.

I first bought the Zhiyun Smooth Q gimbal but returned it because the ZY play app is absolutely horrendous for Android. Read the reviews for the app on Google Play.. it really is that bad.

I have an LG G6 and ran into all sorts of issues with the ZY Play app - tracking did not work very well, when filming the camera lost focus and the only way to get it back was to restart the app, and other issues. Which is really too bad since the gimbal itself was nice.
