- Ain't Too Proud to Beg (LIVE!) 1966
The good old days, the good old days! What more can you say about the fabulous Temptations (Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin, David Ruffin, Otis Williams and Paul Williams!). Here they all are tall, young, happy and talented.......all together! Singing and performing their iconic hit "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" Some of Detroit and America's finest talents! Enjoy Old School the way it was meant to be!
Ruffin was the absolute best. Nobody can compare to him....then and now.
I love it when David Ruffin falls down to his knees. Boy did David Ruffin have some long legs. 8^)
My son learned how to do that
Wow, this is priceless. Its 44 years old, but we're still going to love it 44 years from today.
davidhertzberg1 51 yrs now🙂
David Ruffin stood out vocally, just like every member of that group.
1:33 Otis and David having the best time interacting with each other while doing this is the highlight of the video for me.
Wow, David's showmanship was unmatchable! RIP David.
I'm crazy about the first Temps. They were prefect together ❤️.
I agree with you, was thinking the same thing before i came across your post, David Ruffin may be the most underrated entertainer EVER.. When i see any Micheal Jackson performance I notice more David Ruffin traits then i see James Brown. I wasnt born in that time but i would place Mr. Ruffin in the top 5 live entertainers of ALL-TIME..THIS DUDE WAS NO JOKE..
And that voice can't be beat . He's in a league all his own
Them boys was smooth! Perfection
In these days, Motown was perfection. Songs, production, looks, voices, music, moves, nothing comparés to it...
RIP David Ruffin (1941-1991) RIP Eddie Kendrick (1939-1992) RIP Dennis Edwards (1943-2018) RIP Paul Williams (1939-1973) And RIP Melvin Franklin (1942-1995)
Number 1 is just the best 👌 👍 😍 That group is it
And that voice is to 🔥 die for
this is the definition of swag
good ahead baby!❤ 2022, love you these were the good days OK
I'm only 37, but the temptations are one of my all time favorites.
I’m 34 and the temptations are my favorite
Jesse Jaymes That means you KNOW GREAT MUSIC..Im 34 and my songs 10 WE OBSESS WITH DAVID RUFFIN
The originals are the best group ever
more boy bands need to go back and soak this music in cause this is the kind of records generations will want to keep for the ages! true inspirations, went through a lot and even though their not here physically their legacy is left through their music. still jamming it and its a blessing :)
Best Group Ever with DAVID RUFFIN!!!
Smoooooooth! Loving this in 2020. True talent and charisma! David Ruffin at his finest as well!
THAT WAS THE BEST GROUP. COULDNT NOBODY COMPARE TO THEM. FOR REAL. LOOK HOW GOOD THEY SOUND LIVE.
AHHHHHHH REAL MUSIC!!!
R.I.P. DAVID
Man as long as otis Williams keep makings temptations as long as he he's not going nowhere till his distinction of new temptations hes never goings homes too glory till hes runs out of temptations😅😅😅😅
When David Ruffin became the lead singer, a great group became an immortal group.
Great Song!
This performance actually took place on the show “Shebang” in 1967. Amazing song
During the early years of rock and through the sixties the performances on t.v. were rare and of course they were lip synching, acts didn't have the luxury of traveling to network shows with a full band so this was the norm. Sure the rare, real 'live' performances were awesome but I was just happy to see my favorite acts, especially Motown on the tube. That's just the way it was. I saw the big acts in concert but t.v. was just another way to spread the great music no matter how it was done.
Dave was misunderstood by many. Dave had some much talent.
I blew out or AM radio listening to Motown. When I listen to Motown, EVERYBODY listens to Motown!
AND I appreciate your downloading this, DetroitLives313!!!
I remember when this came out; I heard it on the RADIO!! My best friend bought their single in summer of '66--summer before our graduation from h.s. 1967. We must have wore that vinyl out! I do appreciate you & UA-cam for this video, so I can see The Temps and hear this song. Really, knowhair, get a life!
I LOVE THAT,,,,,,,THANK YOU,,,BEAUTIFUL,,
On this day in 1966 {June 25th} the Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" reached #1 {for 8 non-consecutive weeks} on Billboard's R&B chat...
One month earlier on May 28th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #13 and spent 13 weeks in the Top 100...
On the R&B chart it was #1 for 4 weeks, then Ray Charles' "Let's Go Get Stoned" replaced it at the top spot, but the Temps regained the #1 position for 4 more weeks...
RIP Mr. Ruffin, Franklin, Williams, & Kendricks...
Wonderful
On this day in 1966 {August 20th} the Temptations performed "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand...
In 1974 the Rolling Stones covered it; their version peaked at #17 on the Top 100
It was the 1st Temp record produced by Norman Whitfield
Thank you so very much for this information. It is very much appreciated!
this is a very good Video! Of david and the temps. thank 😊 you for the memories 2022!
Singing Kings of Joy
Bravo🎷🎸🥁🎶❤️💐
2021🥰
Too bad there aren't enough of these performances on youtube that have David on lead. Really is a bloody shame. Dennis couldn't touch David. Nobody could. Only two people I ever saw in entertainment who can touch him are Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury. Yes, I said it. Ruffin is in that same class, though he dont top them :)
@knowhair
Look, it means they are performing live as oppose to a blank screen or a picture of the album cover with just the audio playing. I don't know how old you are ,but in the sixties it was rare for musical acts to appear on weekly television programs and sing live. Not every show had an in house band and these appearances were mainly for promotional purposes only. Thanks for watching!
@GiamSession I agree!
AFTERNOON DELIGHT ANYONE 2024 ENJOY,,,,,,,,
David
Why can't this play on my iPhone 4gs in uk?
@knowhair To add on to what Detroit said there is always a possibility the band is off stage out of camera shot. They could be wearing microphones also. I won't say that this performance was live it very well could've been lip synced, it probably was, but I'm just saying you should take into consideration these things and not call people dumbasses over something you don't know everything about yourself.
@cadeclassic1095 There is no band off-stage. Listen to the original recording. It is THE record playing. I've been a professional musician for 47 yrs. and was a staff musician for a television network. I can tell ya, this is the way all groups performed back then, lip-syncing to their recording. P.S. - Wireless microphones DID NOT exist in the 60's (i just love all the crap on You Tube from people who don't know what they are talking about) NOT!
the temptations DID DAVID RUFFIN WRONG! he made them!
I agree you are so right !!!
Exactly
Paul Lawson plus everybody deserves a second chance
No he didn't once he got fired he was never as big again
This is what happens to talent. David Ruffin got sucked in like Elvis. Came from poor family, like Elvis, had talent up his ass, like Elvis, had everbody calling him God, like Elvis...get my drift The question is moot...Did drugs like...Elvis It s a pattern that is oh so obvious.. dare i say Micheal Jackson, it has to be hard up there in the spotlight and all..bewhere the head that wears the crown. I rather live my life in quite desporation and live 2 be 80, but, shit, what do I know
@knowhair Theyr black... they dont need microphone.
Bad use of parentheses. I love all the crap on UA-cam from people who don't know how to type.
WHO THE HELL CARES!?!?!
you do why the hell are you on this video?🤔
Dave was misunderstood by many. Dave had some much talent.
