Walking through that street with the beautiful art tiles. All around him is graffiti, but those tiles remain untouched. So much respect and reverence for their home. But at the same time, the graffiti adds a touch of flavor all its own. Remarkable.

To me, this is my substitute after No Reservations/Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain. Paul makes the places real, he's genuine and that is what sells this for me. I enjoy being along the journey of exploring new places, new foods and being respectful to those things similar and different.
Paul seems delighted and celebrational with every small detail.
Such Joy. They can have a great time, or detour in the limelight, exchanging solid family for fluff.
I wish he could recover his original life partner.

This video not just showed many the variant of food but Paul introduced history and amazing Eroupe culture.
I am so happy I came across this series of videos! So far I have visited San Fransico, Ireland, Norway and Spain. Paul is a great tour guide! Thanks for the videos. Really enjoy them.

I lived in Madrid for many years and yes, the baking is astounding. San Gines (churros and their larger cousin, porros) on a Sunday morning, with the paper, a cup of cafe con leche, a cup of chocolate, and salty, crunchy churros. The best.
I am surprised he didn't go to the monasterio descalves which is very near Mercado San Miguel. They are cloistered nuns who were given special rights to sell baked goods. You step up to a wide round wooden turntable in the wall, ring the bell, and their bakes of the day rotate around insuring that no nuns come in contact with outsiders. You choose your galletas (cookies), tortas (cakes) and say how much you want. The large turntable at last turns and there are your goodies. You put the money onto the table and off you go. Their biscocho Santiago, a dense olive oil and almond cake is the most divine thing I have ever tasted.
Maybe he didn't miss it....perhaps they wouldn't allow filming.
They did mention something to do w/nuns baking near the beginning. He responded re seeing nuns w/flour all over there black outfits.
Never know w/out asking first though.

There’s another brit... Richard Ayoade and his show The Travel Man, he ends up going to that monastery and got some sweet bakes from those nuns. And like u said, they exchanged money for baked goods thru a ‘turntable’🤔

Almost every episode Paul is like believe it or not, I've never been to '...'. It's like he's never been out of the UK!
His father lives in Spain. He must have been there before. He's just overly dramatic - a showman.

Paul Hollywood's TV persona is lovable and engaging.
Brilliant series, great locations and the cultural uniqueness of each city illustrates why sooooo many people around the world make Europe their number one holiday destination..... because it's not one destination :)
His reaction to the empanada makes perfect sense. The apartment I lived in was above an empanada/bakery shop in Argentina. I had one almost every other day. I wanted them every day, but had to try to limit myself. I have tried and tried to find an empanada in the U.S. that compared to those and still haven't been able to find one... and this show finally explains it. The ones I had were more puff pastry vs. here where all of them that I have tried has been short crust. Just not the same.
I lived in Madrid. Amazing city. I loved chocolate con churzzos. Devine.

i just found this show and I’m absolutely addicted. I’m learning a lot and plan on trying many of these regional bakes. Honestly though I feel so bad for our kids who will never know life without people wearing masks and fearing getting sick.

I don't really get the eye-thing. They're...just eyes? Not saying others won't find them attractive, I just personally don't see it.
@@SilverXeno In my opinion, sometimes the color is beautiful and striking, sometimes it is the shape of the eyes. It really depends on the person, but I do think Paul's eyes are a very striking shade of blue.

Kathy Hartje but I have never seen it melted and used in pastry....cold lard in pie crusts is wonderful.

love these videos. I'd ask that Paul describe a bit more than the pastry in this one. What was in the filling, how did it compliment the lard pastry, where did the filling come from, develop from, custom, culture of influence. all that stuff would make this more "mouth wateringly wonderful."

Hats off to Paul! My mum once made churros for a Spanish friend - her recipe was for choux pastry which was piped into hot oil, drained & dredged in icing sugar. Boy, went down well!! We couldn't persuade her to do it again.☹😋

I am very surprised that having been a baker for so many years Paul has never been in Paris or Madrid. Bakers should travel all over Europe to learn from other cultures. The bakes there are amazing.

Ahhh that empanada looks so good!! 🤤 We were in Madrid last year and didn’t get any.
We did try the churro place. The chocolate was good! The churro was a bit hard for what I am used to eating back home.
I haven't eaten lard for over 30 years...I am vegetarian...organic butter...extra virgin olive oil very tasty and healthier
