  • This week I built the inside walls of my Vauxhall Vivaro campervan. The old van didn't have premade panels that were fitted for windows, so I had to get crafty and create my own. It was challenging work, but I was pleased with my progress. Seems like the van is really coming together.

    0:09 Cutting the floor
    1:10 Fitting the floor
    4:00 Screwing the floor down
    4:14 Custom panel making
    7:00 Screwing on the panels

    7:45 Final words
The next piece of work is felting the interior and then I'll be on to building the furniture. Another daunting task. But, I'm sure I'll manage like so many others have before me.
    Thanks so much for watching.

Say Vauxhall vivaro 10 times whilst patting your head and rubbing your tummy. Love the excitement of the floor finally fitting 😍

Good progress. I would be totally useless at anything DIY. So much respect. I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. Maybe put some shorts on tiktok. 😁 I know it has a poor reputation but there are tons of similar people with a huge following, which I think you deserve.

Thank you so much. I’ve actually managed to do a lot of the felting already. Which means designing and building the interior parts. Very very exciting

When you put in the screws did you know it’s not going to damage anything in the vans metal frame? Like any wires in the way or anything ?

Yes. I checked the depth and location of each screw. Knowing that it wouldn’t pierce the outer shell of the van.

Ages ago Jamie but what length screws did you use and was there any issues with fuel tank etc?

Screwing through the floor was a bit nerve racking. I can’t remember the length of screws. But they only just went through the wood and then into the metal by about 15mm. Just enough to screw into the metal after going through the wood. Does that help?

I also looked where the fuel tank was and didn’t really screw much into that area

Does the felting help with insulation? Or is it for show?

It’s a bit of both to be honest. It’s a small layer of insulation and mostly for looks. It’s also pretty nice to lean up against when I’m lying in bed. It’s also dead cheap, wood is crazy expensive to buy. So even though wood looks nicer, it adds a lot of weight, is expensive and it pretty cold to lean against. Easy decision once you get past the way it looks.
You also spend very small amounts of time in the van so practicality is key.

@@jamieoutdoors that makes sense to me, I imagine I could acquire other colours too. Thank you for this insight. Like most here I plan to convert a van at some point :)

@@vampiricpanda666 oh yeah there are other colours. I have less windows in the van so I went with a lighter grey. But you can go even lighter or darker.
