Glock Model 30s 45 ACP : What's the Deal?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 гру 2022
- I've been a fan of the Glock Model 30 Compact 45 ACP Pistol but it's thick. The Model 30s is also in 45 ACP but has a much slimmer slide and Barrel. It's makes a big difference with felt recoil and Concealed Carrying. Honestly, I didn't know about the Model 30s until about 6 months ago even though it's been out for years. #GlockModel30 #45ACP #Glock
We're taking a look at the advantages and disadvantages of both, but I'm really interested in how they shoot side by side.

I used to have a 30s but my EX wife sold it while I was at work one day. I'm divorced and single now and I really miss my Glock...
Sounds like she mightve committed a felony.
😂
😂😂😂😂
Haha! Sorry Bud! I would have been single if that happened to me
You should have kept it on you!
Bought my 30S when they first came out. Still love it. A very concealable .45ACP sledge-hammer.
Sledge hammer is a perfect description
U have to be Thor to carry the chunk.
Sledge Hammer .
@@pauldvorsky1969 I'm huge. It helps!!
@@pauldvorsky1969I pocket carry mine in an Alabama pocket holster
The Glock 30s is one of the most accurate Glocks that I have ever fired and is the one you’ll most likely find in my holster on a daily basis. Thank you for the video.
G30s is my every day carry, has been for about six or seven years. Shoots soft and straight, reliable and no one ever said you can't carry a spare mag or two.
I didn't want to like the Glock 30 until I shot one. It was hands down the most accurate. 45 I have ever shot.
Ditto.
I love mine
Even more than the G21?
@@donsal.t.1765
I have and love that one too but I shot my 30 better for some reason...
@@Jonnydeerhunter hmm probably less recoil bc of shorter slide. Sounds like a pistol I'll be buying soon enough 😁
@@donsal.t.1765
Could be. If you don't have big hands you may not like the grip. It is definitely made for man hands lol. I personally like it Alot.
Everyone always talks about the trigger pull of a Glock but when using the pistol for what it’s designed for you will never realize it. These are not target shooters they are people shooters.
I've had a 30S since they were made available to the civilian market in 2013. Recently picked up a G30Gen4 and have to say, although chunkier up top, the recoil is noticeably lighter, especially with 185 and 200 grain +P loads. And although I have Talon Pro grips on my 30S, I prefer the stock texturing on the Gen4.
Do you prefer one over the other? I love my 21sf. 30s is not available in California. I keep checking out the 30sf
@@jorges2000 My preference is the G30 Gen4. I keep all my Glocks stock (except for sights) and the trigger is a bit cleaner than the Gen3’s out of the box. The grip texture on the Gen4 is what sold it for me along with the larger magazine release.
I might buy a new factory re built Glock 36 .45acp .... it's the newer US version with a tactical rail.
The 30s is one of my main carry pieces and I love it... Its the hands down best carry .45 ever and its the most versatile .45 ever (able to accept the 13 round G21 mags)
The 30s is in that perfect sweet spot to carry with a 3.8 barrel and 4.8 height (easier to carry then a 19) its also the hands down best handgun choice for people in 10 round restriction states because your not sacrificing anything or nerfing your capacity...
I found a sleeve to put on my G21 spare magazine and it turns it into a full size grip. Plus I get three more rounds with it.
@@eddieengland9886 yeah the X grip.. I have one too.. But when I carry I carry with the 10 rounder in.. And a 13 as a backup
@@cadian122
That's what I do as well. Sorry about that, my comment was a little confusing.
I love my 30s.
I've had it for years.
I would love a 30 to go with it.
The thick grip may not feel as comfortable as a Walther, but the blocky grip wedges into my hand and is very stable. So even though it doesn't feel as comfortable, it shoots better because it's so stable.
I've gotten the same impression on my g30. When I mess around with it at home it feels huge in my hands. But when I take it to the range, grab it from the holster it feels fine and I don't notice it. And I have short fingers.
I have a 30 and I love it..
One of the reasons why I got the 30S was because my hands aren’t very big. Double stack 45s are problematic for me on follow up shots. The SF frame married capacity with 45 power in a platform I could handle. Best of both worlds.
Your reviews are Always among the Best available ! Thanks for including the weights ! Never been a glock fan but this one does interest me.
I bought the 30S a few years ago. Only thing i hated about it was the gap between the mag and the frame. Real finger pincher for sure. Thankfully, the Pearse base plates fix the pinch issue. I carry mine with the 9 round mag, 2 regular 10rd mags for back up. As for accuracy, i can run a whole 10rd mag, all holes touching in the bullseye. Most accurate compact 45 i`ve ever owned. Thanks Don for the video. The 30S never gets much attention. I had hoped glock would have made the 30S in the Gen4, but they never did. I can only hope they make this 30S in the Gen 5 now. Now we wait, again. COME ON GLOCK! GET IT DONE! WE`RE WAITING! 😒
Sitting in my truck right now watching this, with my gen 4 Glock 30 resting in it’s Jackson Leather Works holster, enjoying the video.
I love 45 acp.
But, when I had to "Scale Down" I got rid of everything except 3 9mm pistols, 2- 5.56 AR's and a 20ga pump shotgun.
Love my 30 first handgun I ever owned. Bought it in 2003. I then bought a 21 Gen 5 love that I can use the 21 mags in the 30.
Yep I was amazed at how well the G30 shot !
I have had my Glock 30S for about 10 years and I carry it everyday with a Glock 21 magazine. 14 rounds of 45 ACP. I carry it in a Safariland paddle holster.
I just purchased the .45 Glock 30sf today! Thank you for this most excellent presentation!!!!
Let us know how it ejects? Mine has a super weak ejection.
Me toooo!
You’ll love it
@@raivkka4313 will do. Just ordered a Tungsten guide rod with an 18 pound spring.
@@Viziry will do. just signed the papers. 10 day wait now.
The Glock 30S was created because people were taking their Glock 36 slide and putting it on a 30 frame. It created a much easier to carry and lighter 45 that still held 10 rounds in the magazine. It also can accept the Glock 21 magazine and any of the aftermarket extendo mags. The only thing that it's not recommended to do is shoot 45 super. I haven't found anyone that seems to have tested that theory.
Reportedly there’s a different barrel you can use to slide in and shoot 45 super
I bought a model 30 in 1998. Not slim, not light, not particularly small. But a little diesel locomotive that throws lug nuts.
I bought a 30S back in early 2015 and I still carry and use it. I also have a few G21’s as well. I love my 30S.
The gen 3 model 30s has been my woods gun for years now. Reliable and accurate.
I have wanted the 30s for years
Just picked up a model 30s last week after watching your review definitely a sweet edc in 45acp. Being used to the 29sf this is even a little easier for cool weather carry here in Wisconsin I'm liking it for down in the city or up at the cabin. As always enjoy watching your reviews.
One other advantage of 30 over 30S is the 30 can take .45 to 10mm conversion barrels or Glock 29 barrels so you can get two calibers out of it (woods & ‘hoods). Thicker barrel and slide of 30 also allow .45smc cartridges to be used.
Great video, im happy you now have a 30s, I bought it when it first came out years ago,and always loved it, all my friends with regular 30 also prefer the 30s, thank you, merry Christmas to u and family
I’ve been carrying a 30s with an undercut trigger guard and a nine round mag since ‘15. Set up with that mag, 9+1, it’s grip is closer to a 26 than a 19 and conceals awesome even in the summer.
Excellent review, thanks! I absolutely love my GEN4 30
Love that my 30S fits in my 19 holsters with a small adjustment.
The G30 was the first Glock I ever owned. I bought it originally as a back-up gun before eventually getting a G27. I have always been impressed at how accurate my G30 is. Thanks for the video as always!
Had my Model 30 for 19 years now and love it.
I got my 30S in 2015 and so far still love it. It is great for inside waistband carry.
I've had mine for 12 years and it's a tack-driver!
God bless and take care...
Finally someone giving a .45 some love. I shot the Glock 30 when I went through the police academy and I have about 3k rounds on it.
I love my 30 Gen 4! Great video as always!
I actually keep this one with me wherever I go. I really like this gun packs a mean punch in a compact frame. Great video
You have a great show keep up the good work I enjoy it so much when you explain things very well and I know I can trust you about these pistols merry Christmas and happy new year sir
I love my Glock 30! I bought it about 10 years ago. It’s got a beefy grip but it’s a 45acp pistol. It’s worth it!
I EDC 30s. Nice easy carry. No issues……ever….. holsters galore…..change out slide release and guide rod to stainless for ease and knowing rod wont break….love it!!
Nice glock guns thanks for sharing sootch00 merry Christmas
Excellent information video!
Love my 30s!
Love your channel & all the great reviews ! I own a Gen 2 & Gen 4 model 21, a Gen 3 model 30 & a 30S, and a Gen 3 model 36. Love them all, close race between 36 & 30S, but have large hands so I'm going with 30S for tops. Plus my SF on the 30s has the bottom of the trigger guard slightly deeper at grip, and grip fully textured, feels & shoots great.
Ideal for me I'd like to have the 30S with changeable back straps to go with more of a beaver tail for the look then I like to have the flat baseplate for concealablity and the 21 mags with a good mag boot for open carry etc.
Glock 30S has been my EDC weapon for several years now. It is a fantastic weapon and it gives me peace of mind when it is on my side.
I bought a glock 30s, didn't like the recoil impulse of it, sold it, and bought the Glock 30 gen 4 , never regretted it! Sold my glock 21 gen 3, and bought a glock 41, hated the recoil impulse of the 41, traded it off, and bought a 21 gen 4 . I've also shot the 36 and I don't like it either. Something about that standard thickness glock 45acp guns that are nicer to shoot. Just my experience.
I just bought a 30S this weekend thanks you! 👍🏻 and I also bought a 19X too to add to my collection of Glock 19 Gen2 & G19 Gen5 and Glock 43X & Sig P228.
Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Enjoy watching your videos.
The 30sf and 41 are unpopular gems.
*sootch00* Still have my 30sf its a handful but still a blast to shoot. Thank-you sir for taking the time to bring us along during the video. GOD Bless.
Thanks Kevin! It's definitely a handful ...of power! lol!
God Bless you and yours!
@@sootch00 isn't there a 30,30s,and 30sf I see them on website but don't know the difference between the 30s and 30sf
@@LucrativePatriotyes the original gen 3 30& 21 have big thick frames. Then SF came out thinning the back strap to trigger length both in gen 3. The gen 4 with no backstraps added is same size as SF.
@@blkt6 so the 30s is gen4 and the 30sf is gen 3
@@LucrativePatriot the 30S is a gen 3 with SF frame. The 30 comes in Gen 3, gen3 sf, and gen 4.
I've been carrying a 30S for approx 10yrs. I like the 45acp cartridge. The 30S is the perfect gun for me in the way I shoot and carry concealed. Great pistol!
Great review. Thank you!
i have one, love it. great compact .45acp and it definitely kicks more than a steel frame 1911 but its very manageable and runs everything i put through it.
If you really like the thinner slide you can get a Model 41MOS which is the 45ACP with the same Slim Slide as the 30S except it has a 5.31" Barrel with the slide cut for a RED DOT. Its an awesome pistol that of course also accepts the 13Rd mag that everyone loves.
Both are great little handguns. The thickness of the grip on the .45 and 10mm Glocks does aid in soaking up some of that recoil impulse. I really wanted a 30s. I just preferred the Gen 4 grip.
Great video Sootch, Thank You! I absolutely love my Glock 30S! I have had it since it was released. A tad more recoil, sure, but that difference will not concern you one bit if this comes out of your holster to defend your life. On mine I replaced all the magazine base plates with the Pearce models that match the grip frame/finger grooves, replaced the front sight with a Glock branded night sight, replaced the rear sight with a steel Glock branded fully adjustable sight, put in a Ghost Ultimate 3.5 lb connector and fully polished the internals. I like the different mag options, though I can’t seem to ever find the infamous 9 rounders. For those that are unaware, KCI makes reliable 26 round magazines..if interested.
The 30s is awesome. Probably the king when it comes to size and round count, 11rds. You can use the flush fit 9rd mag too which is even more concealable. You can CCW it or put a light on it and use it for home defense. It is very versatile. The G41 makes a perfect companion. Basically the 41 is the long slide bigger brother to the 30s. With the 9rd mag the 30s is just bigger than the G26. I actually use my 26 holster to carry my 30s. If you were to get and have only 1 gun in 45acp I believe the 30s is the gun to get, period! Though I have a few other pistols in 45acp that I like better none of them are as versatile. It would be last to go which says a lot. You also should be able to put the 30s slide onto the gen4 frame if you wanted too.
Yup I agree. Even though it is a subcompact, with the 10 round magazine it really fits well in most shooter's hands like it was a full sized gun, while still being smaller.
I finally found a glock 30s in my LGS after carrying the s&w shield 45 PC for 2 years. I added an oveerwatch flat trigger and xs sights I love the 30s even though it recoils more. It is my winter carry.
I used to own a G36 and was surprised how accurate and easy to shoot. I need to try the G30S.
Happy Holidays!!!! I love my 30sf gen 3, talon grips, trijicon hd night sights and olight baldr mini laser/light, home defense ready.
Carried the Glock 30 for years. It was my concealed carry for a number of years. I love the 30s as well. It was not a noticeable difference to me.
I ended up in going with the 30SF. Simply because I wanted the ability to use 10mm barrel/mags to have the option of 2 calibers. The 30S was considerably thinner, but couldn't find nearly as much aftermarket for it MINUS holsters. As the 30S fits 19 holsters... Take your pick. 30 holsters are a bit more challenging to find. IMO the 30 is too thick in a holster. I use a TechnaClip on mine. If you don't care about barrel swaps, the 30S is by far the way to go. The 30 is a thick boi, but I love it. 45&10 from one "compact" pistol.
For those not aware, the design & release of the Glock 30S was in part because of the elite LAPD/SAS 🕵🏽♂️🕵🏼♀️. After the major issues with custom made Kimber SAS line 1911a1s, the detectives chose the big Glock 21 .45acp guns. After carrying 21s for a bit, the SIS asked Glock to revise, modify compact 30 pistols. SIS needed 30Ss to carry concealed, undercover 🥸 or as a 2nd gun. Glock USA agreed to LAPDs terms but wanted the 30S to sell on the open market.
I wish Glock would just consolidate and put the 30S slide on the Gen 4 frame. That would change the game and maybe they will do that when the bring the Gen 5 version to market.
Bought my G30s on ft Lewis in 2014, been my EDC ever since, you can use the 13rd mags that come with the G21 and G41
I enjoyed the comparison!, thanks new subscriber now. Look forward to other video’s
Love mine. I use the 21 mag and a x grip. Polished my barrel added the extended take down lever and a punisher back plate , I painted the engraving white and a stick on grip. Also have the 23 round stick mag. Great gun my edc
I'm a lefty, so the Gen 5's really appeal to me more. I have a G19 & G26 both Gen 5 and absolutely love'em! I want to either add this G30 or G30s to my fold. Will Glock be making a G30 & G30s in a Gen 5 version? Oh! Great video as always Sootch00. 😎
many people don’t realize that a good portion of the recoil and muzzle flip is when the slide moves forward. to test it load three rds in the magazine. fire them and it’s quite noticeable when the slide locks back the recoil and muzzle flip less.
Love my 30 gen 4!! Things a beast might get his older brother next… not the 21 but the 41🤠 merry Christmas to all 🎉🎄
Appreciate the review.
Look forward to it!
Very informative and excellent video
I love your videos! Watch alot of them and I get good info thankyou for what you do and God bless you and the Republic
I've had a 21SF for a year now. Even that was just too large for my medium hands. I had to break my grip to reach the mag release, also had to purchase a Vickers tactical slide release. I love the 45 so I purchased a lone wolf large frame and that was the winner! I might put a short together comparing them before I sell the original lower.
About 10 years ago, I was able to get both a Model 30 AND a Model 30S. I love them both. Like you, I generally carry the Model 30S and have the Model 30 in a secure location in the house. I have noticed some difference in the way they feel to fire them. I wondered how much was the difference in the bulk of the handle fitting into my medium sized hand. I have a Hogue rubber sleeve on the handles which helps me maintain control, especially if my hands may be a little damp with sweat.
I see a sootch video. I click like and watch it ASAP!
The G30 can also shoot 10mm and 460 Rowland because of the beefed up slide
Been carrying a 30sf for quite a few years now and I love mine. The one thing I don't like is I have trouble finding aftermarket parts for the frame of the 30sf like magwells or even plugs if wanted. There available but hard to find. I carry mine daily while landscaping in myrtle beach sc. Mine has been though alot over the years and it's still holding strong
I love my G30 and conceal it very well even OWB. I carry a G21 magazine for my spare with a sleeve on it that takes up all the space and gives it a full size grip.
Great review!
8:36 - the model 30s will fit into glock 19 magazines. That's very impressive.
you mean 19 holsters not magazines
I picked up on that too... LOL
@@Asidebar go back and watch the video at the highlighted time stamp and get back to me.
I just purchased my first ever 45 ACP and I bought a Glock. I must say I love how smooth it shoots. With the ammo been gigantic how it is you would think it’s a lot of recoil but it shoots so smooth
I have both the Glock 30s just fits perfect and is a little lighter but if you can handle the 30 alone it’s makes you better
I love your videos man 💪🏾
Got the G29 and yeah it is thick but really love it!! I imagine the G30 is similar in felt size
Recoil only matters at the training range as you will not be thinking of it during a self defense situation when the adrenalin dump gives you added strength and power to fight better. Of more concern is the grip and how it enables you to shoot accurately. I was at an outdoor range when two Spec Op type of guys entered. After they had shoot off a hundred rounds they were talking about their lack of accuracy. One had a Glock and the other a Sig. I said to them try switching guns and see how you do as a semi serious suggestion. They did so. After another hundred rounds they decided to swap guns because the results were so much better. That was a surprise and it made me realize the importance of the grip.
Love mine. Glock 21 13 round (with sleeve) magazine into my Glock 30SF....perfect.
My primary edc is a g30. I can shoot lights out with it. My spare mag is a 13 rounder with a sleeve.
It is cool how you always field strip and compare.
Great discussion on a couple of my favorite Glocks. I've got both, and carried both for several years. For me, the carryability of the 30S is quite a bit better. I have never noticed much shootability difference, though. The biggest thing for me, though, is that the 30S is only a Gen 3, meaning that I can't swap the mag catch (I'm a lefty). I really wish it was popular enough that they would bring it out in a gen 4 or 5. But other than that, they are both fantastic guns, and if it interests anybody, on Massad Ayoobs' favorites list...for a good reason.
If Massad recommends the Model 30, you know it's solid! Thanks Dan
@@sootch00 He does as he shot 3/4 " groups with the G30 at 25 yds!!!
Great video, thank you Sir!
I received one of them ammo loaders for Christmas and I Love it
You know that the 30S upper will fit the Gen 4 frame? I thought about doing that to dual wield 30Sesess, just for fun, I think.
My daughter hates Micro Nines. She tried them all. The best 9mm she likes is the M&P Shield Plus. I showed her that the Shield Plus and 30S are virtually identical in size and weight all around. I installed the lightest recoil spring i have (15lbs) in the 30S and she fired 135gr Underwood Xtreme Defenders. She noticed there is less recoil than the Shield Plus with that ammo and the slide is just as easy to manipulate. Both have 10 and 13 round mags. Now, the 30S is her favorite gun. I'm hoping that a Gen 5 will come out soon, I might have to get 2 of them. If not, nothing wrong with getting another original G30S and doing the same modifications.
Great review
Thanks
30S is not legal in CA so I bought a slide/barrel from a 36 and put it n my 30 frame. Works great!!!
Excelent Review and Comparison 30s vs 30 and G19 holster 👍
I have a gen 3 model 30(sf) and use the model 21 13rd mags with a xgrip adapter. I like this setup 👌
Best video I have seen on guns for a while. Everything I ever wanted to know about the 30 and 30s glocks. I may want to buy a 30s but I usually only buy guns that CT makes lasers for because I am old and eyes no longer focus on sights all that well. I am thinking maybe the G19 laser might fit but have to check what generation the G19 laser is made for. Liked, subbed.
Grabbed one up after this vid,.outstanding. lil 45 auto the 30sf,get 13 rounders with the XGRIP. it is Perfect. And great vid.
Nice review! I had a 36, but i didn't like it. I bought it right after my 30 and it seemed like a waste of space for only 6+1. So i never really have the 30SF a second glance. I'm happy as hell with my 30. I love all my Blocks... I mean Glocks. The 19 has been my daily carry for over 22 years. A Glock has been my daily carry for over 25. The 26 was my first love and with a factory +2 base plate I never felt like I was "out gunned." I have all the tiny Glocks, 42, 43, 43X, but for whatever reason everyday is a 19 kinda day.
Must as I want to, I can’t seem to get (fully) away from the .45 ACP. Good review. 👍
Quick note, sootch00
The 30S postdates the SF modification to the large frame Glock pistols. Thus, there are no Glock 30S that have the "exxxtra thicc" grip of the old G20/G21
