Of all of BMW’s recent redesigns/refreshes, this to my eye is the most polished and refined yet and will look better for longer than the other new BMW models. Happy about that. That said, I do still prefer the previous gen overall, especially interior.
The 3 series refresh was not bad either in my opinion
The old one looks way better to me, because it has less plastic chrome colored trim pieces (looks less cheap) and it looks wider and more stable (because of more horizontal lines in the front). I also think that the new one looks like it would have an ugly smile, because of the U-shaped chrome colored trim piece.
I can see that! The previous model was definitely handsome
There is also that M-styling that looks better imo
Both are very nice, perhaps minimally I prefer the former version, while @ADDY Green's criticism is, in my opinion, greatly exaggerated. I definitely like the new X5 better than the Audi g7 or the absolutely awful Lexus LX
Look at the interior of the lexus RX very much cheap gray plastic, next to it the interior of the X5 is beautiful. And you can have 6 or 8 cylinder engines in it in lexus only 4 :/

also worth considering that this is NOT the M sport trim which always looks better with a more sporty bumper and chrome delete.

Pre facelift X5 was the most stunning SUV on the market for me, especially the rear lights were so cool. New one looks very nicely but I still prefer preface version.
But new facelift for this looks way better than pre facelift but up to your choice
I think BMW is careful not to screw up the 5 and 8 series and the X5/X6 too much, but still experinent with ever other model. They seem to show much more restraint on these models.
Hate the big all screen trend, love the older instruments housing look !
Maybe it’ll grow on me. But I do not like any of the design features better than the current gen.
I love this refresh, it looked too overcomplicated before in my opinion. Now it still has the good proportions, but the details are simpler and classier
You should make a video of the generation changes to the X5 since it’s launch. Would love to see the stylistic traits that have been engraved into it’s DNA over the years 👀
It's so weird that they provide a 2WD X5. like the whole body is just for show-off, not even trying to have SUV capabilities
I think most of your comments are spot on. On the outside I dont dislike the changes and it looks more modern but I prefer everything on the previous model on the outside other than the tail lights. On the inside, I just can't accept iPads sitting on the dash and now we have flat screen tv's up there. I'm showing my age being in my 50's as I prefer fixed buttons to do things and you can tell that is quickly becoming a thing of the past in most manufacturers. Almost all BMW's look the same inside now to blend more with the electric line which just lacks character to me. I'm purchasing a loaded previous generation and keeping it until it dies and no more ICE vehicles exist!

@@joshuathomas512 i mean i suppose if you are someone who has been following x series designs for a while? This is my mom's first x3 and idk they never really stood out as like "woah weird taillights".
I love it too. Been driving for a month, and finally started to see both 2023 and 2024 side by side from their behind. I can tell 2024 taillights definitely better.
Years ago the X5 had a really solid stance and stately presence that was matching the ML/GLE. Now it looks like an X1.
X5s are not made to look like big eggs tho

I do like the exterior refresh and upgrade in power for the B58 engine, but I’m not a fan of the big continuous screen.
I've been driving my 2024 x5 for a month. the big screen is not bad at all. The one I hope they should keep is the gear stick.
All the new BMWs that will be released throughout 2023 and 2024 have a very consistent and beautiful design.

i absolutely hate the look of the new big screens in vehicles today. It looks like a video game console or something to me. I much prefer the look of the earlier 2023 X5 interiors.
2024 x5 frontal redesign is HIDEOUS, Not only the new x7. Maybe the M-Sports. but I'll keep my 2020 for another few years.
I have the pre lci. I don't know what they did with the headlights but that's but pop'd out to me the most. The new headlight design looks a little cheap. Those laser lights with the half halos just look so good on the pre lci

I really dislike those taillights, it doesn't fill out the housing like the previous, almost looks unintentional and maybe even aftermarket

On the new one, front bumper looks like snow plow.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful Mazda's designs are specially with the CX-90 really puts it up there with lexus and infinti, maybe not with the germans because thats just a class above.

It’s just a facelift mid cycle, you keep saying “ previous generation”.
why can't they put some effort into designing a more driver-friendly interior? mercedes and audi do it right. of course, their interiors are fully digital as well, but it looks like they've been really well thought out. bmw just slaps two funky ass tablets on the dash, adds unnecessarily weird looking a/c vents and calls it a day
Mercedes really? Go and test drive and see which continental brands are better. Mercedes is already dated and nothing special, and already loses out to other competitors. Mercedes also loses more on durability to other competitors. Even Audi, BMW and Porsche already ahead Mercedes
I'm just starting to shop for the 2024 X5. Good video but if you had not pointed out the lights being different I would not have noticed. Now I see the difference I like the 2023 look better.

I feel like this review did not touch up on the items missed in the cabin. For example, the rear seats have both still no recline, the back seats are not cushioned as much as they should be, why dis the 2024 leave the 2nd row passengers with just basics, there should be more luxury or amenities. GV 80 has a lot of amenities for rear seats including the option of 2 captain chairs!

This shark eyes are great but I miss the traditional angle eyes. Think that's the x line bumper. With m bumper it will looks good
I totally agree with you. I hate the new iPad screens they’re ugly cheap and it’s easy I like fit and finished way better than big iPad screens.
Same like Mercedes but looks worst than BMW. Even C Class audio system looks weird and uglier including for interior

No, you dont want 22inch wheels because they wear out really fassst and make for a really stiff ride. Looks of 22in wheels are good up to a point.
Those aren’t L shapes in the break lights …. If you combine bother lights it makes a wide “X” shape for X -5 series

Not a fan of the front, it kinda reminds of the 1 series' front which is hideous imo. I like the rear though.
Removing (or failing a digital implementation of) the classic BMW mechanical gauge meters and their orange night light is a crime... I cannot connect with BMWs anymore...
I was never a fan of BMWs of years past with all the orange dash lights. I stayed away from them for that reason.
@@jeffs6090 I would fall asleep while dreaming about the BMW gauge cluster as a teenager in the 80/90s... A BMW i4 is too hard to get anyway and I don't care that my newly bought Model 3 doesn't have a gauge cluster since Tesla excels at other virtues...
you can configure the 2024 x5 and x6 models on the european configurators, and i've got to say that the m trim looks a lot better than the standard trim. especially when compared to their pre-lci older siblings
I hope they have a blackout package that changes the cheap looking silver plastic trim to black.

The kidney grille is limiting BMW design. Mercedes is able to just use the 3 pointed star with different grilles, which is great!

why do they insist upon re-inventing the angel eyes :/ and I find it comical that they were trying to find a new interpretation for the L-shaped-taillights and then just decided to copy+paste it again but inverted.
could've been worse tho. just wished they showed this same restraint on their other models...
they’re re-inventing for 2 reasons. 1) times change. brands have to change and make things look new and different to keep their customer base engaged. they still keep the element, but change the adaptation. and 2) bmw has been very clear that they want each product line to have their own identity in the brand, while still being identifiable as a bmw through it’s key features (angel eyes, L-shaped tailight, kidney grills, etc.) I actually applaud them for this and not doing what mercedes does where the C, E, and S class are essentially the same car in different sizes

I will say that even with bmw’s design approach, it’s obvious that some of their designs are a hit or miss. some are more conservative and restraint (X3, 3 series, X5, 5 series), while some models are more wild and out there (4 series, 7 series, X7, M3/M4, XM). But hey, taste is subjective🤷At least they’re giving us options. for example, someone might love the M3’s huge kidney’s, but someone else hates it (If they really dislike the M3, they can get an alpina B3, which gives them the same engine, but more restraint looks - A win for everyone!)
@@markm4123 I will say this- BMW is smart. everything they're doing is, whether people know it or not, 100% deliberate and intentional. not everyone, even car enthusiasts, will hold every single new BMW design to the highest degree of scrutiny. I'm starting to see more and more people justify their liking of the new M3/M4 because it looks more aggressive. People are getting accustomed to BMW's madness. the XM is a monstrosity, but it's gonna sell like hotcakes. I've seen several IX's driving around (to the dismay of my eyeballs.) But like you said, BMW does offer restrained designs in limited doses with the Alpina B3.
The pre-LCI G05 xDrive40i is by far my favorite. Not a fan of the LCI model

I completely agree with you! They look so cool and when they are engaged they make the car look luxury. The fog lights also make the front end look fuller and more intimidating. I also don't like the new headlights. To be frank - they look cheap.

I'm looking forward to the new 50e phev!!! Close to 60 miles of EV only range is perfect! However, I don't understand why the X6 doesn't get the phev. The coupe shape is more conducive for the EV aspect. Just like them making an iX3 (though not gorvthe US for now) and not an iX4. That makes no sense.

In my opinion neither looks better or newer..just slightly different.
Okay but still the old one looks better, old internal controls and buttons are handier. The only plus is the power that doesn’t add much to me as I dont live in Germany. For the 45e, perhaps 10km+ of electric range might give an extra sauce but not much of a significant difference.
The rear lights create an “X” as a whole, which actually is a surprise

I like the new infotainment I just hate that they removed the climate buttons, there’s plenty of space for them to have stayed. nothing wrong with having climate menus in the screens but leave the damn climate buttons alone
I love BMW but i just don’t get over the new design language. I hope it grow on me but for the moment I will pass my lease is up at the end of year.
I, for a fact, do know that these horsepower numbers BMW say their cars make are all lies. Add at least 100 more power on top of their “horsepower”
For the reasons Bembli articulated, the 2024 X5 front does not look as handsome as the 2022-2023 X5. But it still looks better than the current X7 front, which is as hideous as the Bangle bump on the 7 series sedan many moons ago. Also, I’m not impressed about the interior curved screen that, while looking sleek, makes the dashboard look cheap. Toss up on the 2024 X5 rear lights.
I hate that they remove the angels eyes from new bmw,s The E46 and the f30’s are still my favorite models ever, and also e60
I wished they put the 3 series lci or x3 lci style DRLs on the lci x5. These new headlights don’t look good imo.

I don’t like that steering wheel in the “updated” X5. I’ve seen it in other base models. It’s as if they designed it to look less good, intentionally for base model cars.

Front grill looks slightly lower than other parts making it looks unbalanced and less sturdy to me and rear lamp graphic make it look thicker than the previous from the side view

Nah not for me. i switched form Audi to BMW because i didnt want an ipad on the dash. i like driving, not swiping screens. theres a right way to do it, like putting the frequently used control on tactile button. like the way range rover has done
Oh look I can actually see this a new version of a car. Unlike Mercedes who does nothing but copy and paste. Mark my words, bmw will be a design Martyr, it's gonna be heavily criticized, but I'm sure it'll plant seeds for the future.
