    I have a gen 1 R8, and I will keep it for as long as I possibly can. It's my favorite car in terms of design and I believe the round edges make it timeless compared to the gen 2 which has many sharp lines which I believe will age much faster.

      Congrats for owning an R8 dude! It’s my dream car that I’m working up to right now.

    • @pkbeast
      @pkbeast 7 місяців тому +6

      I too own a Gen 1 R8 (manual), saved up half the cost and bought it last December. Aiming to pay off the rest of the car and finish up the mod list I've created (all tasteful and/or reversible) by end of 2025. I do find that it's greatest gift is also it's greatest curse for me. Beautiful and timeless design, one of the last manual supercars, little to no depreciation left, the Iron Man effect and the overall reverence garnered from the community car guys and non alike, means there's very few places to go but down.
      Big goals like the R8 is what motivates me to save up and put in the overtime. Thought about possibly the Gen 2 Honda NSX but running costs would be too much to keep both, let alone the up front purchase price, so it would end up being a side-grade or maybe even a downgrade. Don't get me wrong, I totally get that this is extremely a First World Problem, but for anyone else like me who uses an R8 as a financial motivator, also think about what your next project (car or otherwise) may be after this, as the R8 is the crème de la crème in this price point.

      hard disagree on that. Sharp lines does not mean it will age faster just like how having round edges don't make design timeless. You need to take into account whole design and how those lines are used.

    • @pkbeast
      @pkbeast 7 місяців тому +2

      @@MarkoLomovic Actually yeah. I read @13H saying round edges makes a car timeless and thought of those teardrop shaped wheel arches on vintage cars that look so sweet. Then I read your comment on what you do with the lines, thought about it deeper and realised that a mid-2000's Fiat Grande Punto is rounded yet looks bland as hell.

    I agree the 458 was the best. 488 was still very nice. F8 may be the least attractive of that evolution, but ill take it over newer ferraris. It still looks like a Ferrari, and doesnt have a pontiac-toyota (which does a better job with hammerhead front) Front end. I think the R8 is no longer competitive to the 911 or Corvette. Its eclipsed by Mclaren and folks will spend more for the Huracan. Then you need to realise what you are competing with and while the r8 is an amazing car that I personally love very much, it just isn't established enough to expect it to compete with lamborghini and ferrari. so unless you undercut on price, it ain't gonna happen. The problem is that the people that love the car can't afford it and the people that can afford it don't love the car :(

And that’s before we even get into the already confirmed departure of Audi from sports car racing. I don’t like any of it. @@AlcatrazCrylake if you paid even remote attention to F1 and F1 news, you’d know how worthless “official statements” are. Last season, Ferrari told us nothing was wrong and that Mattia Binotto was staying. Then it was announced that he was being sacked in favor of Fred Vasseur. Then Alpine’s farce with Oscar Piastri and how they announced he was racing for them when nothing of the sort was agreed upon. Now I’ve got the feeling that the whole thing with the F1 teams coming together and teaming up against the FIA is the next thing (it seems like a done deal, but the fact that they all used the same official statement word for word and the rather ominous interview Sky Sports had with Christian Horner seems very off to me). In other words, don’t trust anything that comes out of F1’s mouth: almost none is it is consistently true

    I have the same issue with the 3rd revision of the r8. It creates bulk in an awkward spot and while I thought there was awkwardness to the 1st gen and the refresh, it had a more cohesive design. had the 3rd gen simply moved that body line up on the intake, it would be a hard one to decide on who wore it best. Aside from that though, something I find unforgivable on the R8 is the use of fake vents by the quarter window. That is abhorrent on a car of this price.

    LM concepts are more developed by the time we (the public) see them, so this goes to show why so little (at least aesthetically) changes in the design.
    Now this is not all LM projects, but it is based on what trends I typically see in the car industry.
    Fun fact, my favorite r8 is also the V10+ and that was a famous car for me n Forza Horizon 5 when I made the "meta-CORTEX" Matrix themed race livery. My most successful car in any Forza game really. And it was perfect, that it was the best car I had in game, because it was my favorite out of game too.
    You can see examples of the livery I made and published in fh5 on my channel if interested, and honestly would be wasting my time on this comment if I didn't ask you to tell me what you think of the few liveries I made, and the tracks if you have FH5 to test them
    RIP r8
    Ps huge question
    If people arent buying THESE then wtf are they buying, and lets explore that mystery as a video idea?

    I agree with you a electric R8 would be just wrong. It should stay as a legend and I think Audio could create something new and exciting with ev tech.
    But a electric TT would be quite nice actually, a electric roadster isnt something we have.
    A driver focused car would be nice, it doesnt need ludicrous high acceleration. Maybe something similar to what Hyundai is doing with the Ioniq 5N these fake funny shift simulations or hell what about a real gearbox

    I disagree about your take that a specific model can't or should not be an EV. It really shouldn't matter what powers a car. All cars will be EVs in the future and developing new ICE tech and maintaining supply chains for such a complex machine is steadily becoming a luxury that most car companies won't want or be able to afford. Electrification done right should give more freedom to designers and allow for more interesting cars. Why can't the future R9-R10 or R48V shouldn't be able to perform and look as good or better than previous models.
