    I had no idea you could have your dog with you on a plane if they are emotional support. I only knew about housing in 'no pets' apartments. I thought only Service dogs could do that on planes. Interesting. Still don't know if I could go on a plane due to my extreme anxiety.. but it'd probably make it a whole lot easier if I had my dog! And ignore all the mean comments about the emotional support thing! I'm 'young' and 'healthy', you'd never guess what health problems I have or what I've been through, and how horrible my depression was before I got a dog.. My girl has saved me, literally. Some people DO need them, so no one should judge, even if some people do take advantage of the whole thing. You also need a doctor to sign saying you need an emotional support dog, and I doubt any doctor would just randomly write a letter stating the need for one if someone didn't have any health issues. BTW I've been watching so many of your videos today, your dogs are adorable! Definitely want a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!

      I know this is a longish comment, but in case you don’t know this I wanted to educate you on a few things :).
      This is an old video, but new laws are in place so that only service dogs can fly. There are many reasons for this, but it definitely helps crack down on fake service dogs. Also, I could definitely see how ESA’s such as Herky and Milton could distract service dogs and that could be detrimental to their handlers. Now, only dogs that are task trained are allowed onboard.
      Regarding your comment about allergies, being hypoallergenic isn’t a requirement for a service dog, and in my opinion, a few sneezes is an okay price to pay for that dog to save a life medically or prevent a debilitating panic attack. Many people don’t realize this but panic attacks are extremely hard emotionally and physically and can leave a lasting effect on mental health, for months and years to come. Sometimes it even triggers PTSD.
      I hope this helps :).

      @@oliveleary661 ik they aren't even emotional support. Service dogs are much better trained. People just become too attached to pets and slap a label so they can go anywhere

      If you were to do this please make sure your dog is properly trained, because these dogs really could've been a safety hazard to an actual Service dog with their lack of public training.

      Your dog has to be trained though :) usually it's service dogs, but ESA's are allowed as well. A bunch of people get their dogs registered as an ESA through scams and they aren't trained. Just to get their dogs on a plane and it's illegal. So please make sure your dog is trained, that way you don't kicked off as well lol

      but unless you REALLY need to have an ESA, please don't just do it because you want them to be in the cabin of a plane, ESA's are a very big problem for Service dogs/assistance dogs (so they should have basic obedience to be let on a plane)

    • @helenfletcher4057
      @helenfletcher4057 6 років тому +1

      From what I've read in BC they need to pass the tests of any service dog. In the States it's much easier to just get a therapists letter and be done without serious dog training.

    • @Lavenderrose73
      @Lavenderrose73 5 років тому

      I have a letter from my VA provider, which my apartment manager has already said will be acceptable when I get my dog. But I have every intention to get her some good training and to make sure that people can rest assured she is worthy of her position. 4 Paws 2 Freedom trains people to train their own service dogs (and veterans are only charged for the dog and not charged for the training if it's service-connected), but anyone can take their obedience classes up to a certain point. I figure if they have helped a lot of veterans with PTSD, their obedience classes would be good quality too.
      ...but PinkRoseDolls is right, not everyone who has an ESA is taking advantage of the system. I understand I qualify for a service dog if I want one, but for now I'm just starting off with an ESA since my anxiety is worse in the mornings and she would be right there with me when I wake up.

      As much as it pains me to say this, because the owners seem like very nice people, and I love those cute dogs, but the owners are gaming the system. They do not have emotional issues requiring them to need these dogs. The dogs are either too big to be carry on, or the owners don't want to pay. Multiple articles talking about this. One owner came out and admitted she gamed the system: abcnews.go.com/Health/pet-owners-game-emotional-support-animal-system-fly/story?id=30064532
      For less than $100 you can fill out a form online and get diagnosed (online) stating you need a ESA. You get all the stuff mailed to you for the dog and never have to step into a doctor's office.

    • @puggirl415
      @puggirl415 3 роки тому

      @@hmj8469 I don't see how you know so much about these or anyone's emotional issues. People who have anxiety disorders are perfectly nice people who seem normal and healthy but they can just need comfort from the animal to avoid triggering and reacting to mean intrusive, judgmental people. When I am out and about so many people feel like they can just say crap to me whatever they want. I sometimes feel like I'm going to scream or cry if they don't leave me alone. It's better to pet the dog and calm down than react to the type of people that set me off emotionally because they think I don't have any issues and don't need the dog.

    Hi, I finally got my Cavalier puppy. Her name is Lady, she's a tri-color, and she's 5 months today! She is an ESA too, so I would be able to travel with her as well and don't have to pay pet rent for her or pet deposit, although I have one down from when Precious was still with me. I guess Cavaliers are small enough not to have to put in a carrier on the plane, then? I'm actually looking on UA-cam for Cavaliers traveling so I could see what kind of carriers they're in when they're in the cabin. That way, if an airline gets all pissy about having a carrier for her, I would have that to fall back on.

    They don't necessarily have to be emotional support dogs to travel on the plane. Once they can be calm is more important. They can be in their travel cages or on your lap once the plane has taken off or landing. I would never ever check my dog as cargo. So many end up being very sick or even dying at the destination.

      From my research, ESAs can travel on planes without having to be in a carrier and won't be subject to fees with a proper letter stating that your pup is an ESA as well as in homes/apartments that don't allow pets with the same kind of letter. Service animals are different and are allowed to be in all public areas and require different training. There are many ways to get a letter (different websites, your therapist, etc). I was just wondering how they went about making their pups ESAs. :)

    How did you know when to give them the calming pill before yhu got on the plain?
    How could yhu tell when to get them water on such a long flight? Were yhu worried about them peeing on the plain?
    Did yhu have to buy an extra seat for the girls to sit in between yhu guys?

    • @sariekat
      @sariekat 6 років тому

      LaKenya Buckson in the beginning she stated that she was limiting their water/food intake.
      The dogs are technically not allowed on the seats. I put a sweater down on the seat and my dog on top so I can rearrange and the flight attendant told me to not have my dog on the seat.

    A message from a service dog handler please make sure your esa have at least basic training and are not aggressive as they could attack a service dog and put the handler at risk ik most real esa are gentle but for our safety please

    They are so cute and they traveled very well. Something you might want to think about is not to use the walking sidewalks in the airports. I was a ticket agent for the airlines and one day a dog using the moving sidewalk with his partially blind owner got his foot caught in the sidewalk. It was an accident that could have been avoided. My best to you. Much happiness from Teresa

    Hello guys i'm having so many problem to find out the way to bring my female cavalier king charles spaniel with me on a delta airplane from italy to USA. I think that all the airplane companies make a mistake considering the cavalier king charles spaniel and the king charles spaniel as the same breed. Could you help on that?

      Marco, I'm planning on flying with my cavalier between Chicago and Amsterdam in April 2021/ My wife has severe anxiety that usually relies on medication to get her through the flight, but this time we are hoping to use Sophie as an ESA instead due to the side effects of the medication. Searching Delta's site turned up this page www.delta.com/us/en/accessible-travel-services/service-animals where there is a form named "Emotional Support/Psychiatric Service Animal Request" to download.

    Love these longer videos. This was super helpful. Hopefully you don't mind me asking but how long was your flight? I'm assuming the dogs went without going potty for more than 3 hours since you got to the airport.

    • @herkythecavalier
      @herkythecavalier  7 років тому +2

      Thanks for watching :) I'm happy these longer videos are well received. We'll keep doing vlogs I think :) the flight went suuuuper well. They held it for over 9 hours, but they're used to it. Some pups go on pee pads so dog parents use pee pads in the bathroom in the airport :)

    “Even with the pills they are still pulling” a ESa should not need pills they also shouldn’t pull. This is just a flexible excuse to have your dogs on your lap rather than under your seat

      Pumpkin The Assistance Dog C-S I would never do that. I am treated for anxiety and depression. I didn’t know it was even a thing ok? I normally live in New Zealand and am home in the US for a while and have just found out how prevalent this is. My doctor would write me a letter for sure.

    • @brookesmith5591

      oh okay, sorry just so many people are just getting esa's for no other reason other than to fly in the cabin. Just remember NZ don't have esa's (if you were to fly over their with your dog you might have to have them in the cargo)

      if you read the laws it is not restricted to one dog. Why don't you just find out what you're talking about before you comment. Emotional support dogs to play a big part in people's lives that have real legitimate reasons.
