I am 64 and would dearly love to fly to Los Angeles, buy a clean 30 to 35 foot boat that I can sail back to Richards Bay where it can be moored as I live in Mtunzini from where you can watch coal tankers coming from Durban, ready to enter the Harbour. As a 15 year old with a 13 and 12 year old brothers, ɓought an open dinghy like an optimist. We learned the basics of sailing and I look forward to flying to LA, buying a 30 - 35 foot GRP boat and sailing that back home to Richards Bay I have seen 25 foot boats that my brother could use, in my name so that his creditors cannot attach a ɓoat in someone else's name. Once my brother is not likely to get the boat attached to sell to cover debts, it can be used as a deposit for a boat in his name

When I was studying for my A levels, I and my 2 brothers owned a Stanley Dinghy. It was a day sailor that we sailed on a dam outside of Harare in Zimbabwe. I retired on ill-health pension about 2 decades ago, but live just south of Richards Bay. I wish to fly to Los Angeles and buy a 30 to 35 foot boat and sail it back to Richards Bay, possibly via London to see family. I don't want a huge boat that cannot be single handedly sailed.
You have a lot on your plate and you are doing pretty well coping with it all. I remember A Levels, a load of hard and intense work. Don't forget your studies but make sure you have some fun also. James.
Yes, unfortunately I’m having to sell her, because I have moved to Dorset and we have upgraded to a Sadler 26 and it doesn’t make sense to have two boats. I’d like to buy her back once I’m done with school and go on a proper adventure. I’m slightly hoping she doesn’t sell in which case she will come on to the hard for the next year and a half and then I can go cruising on my gap year 😀😀

Yes, while in some ways 40ft is safer, if you are short handed then at least on a smaller boat you can manage anything that goes wrong!
