    Ive had the pleasure of working for Swallow since before Matt took over from his dad, the bay raider 17 is one of my favourite designs to sail, second only to the storm petral.
    I've met Andrew Denman a few times on his trips over to visit and its good to see what a fine job he's made of the build. Congratulations
    In reference to a question i read in the coments, the beauty of the mizzen is that in a sudden squal you can sheet it in, the boat will weather cock to wind, drop the main and your good to go with a well balanced sail plan. No drama at all and quick to instigate
    You can also do a nice trick of sailing backward off a lee shore holding out the mizzen while steering

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  3 місяці тому

      Thanks Bill, I haven't intentionally tried to go backwards...normally it's the tide. Thanks for watching and the comment and I can't wait for the next Bay Raider 17 to join us, which is currently being built by Andrew, cheers Paul

    Thanks for another calming video. I noticed the built in step or MARLOU’s rudder and it reminded me of the steps on the rudder of my old Herreshoff 31. I don’t know why more boats don’t provide that convenience/safety feature. Being able to climb aboard from the water certainly outweighs any added drag.

    Really like the Bay Raider series boats. Still trying to win lotto so I can afford one (sadly). The Welsford Navigator is my other choice, but hard to get second hand in Australia. My last yacht was a Bavaria 32, lovely easy to sail fixed keel boat. However, the cruising dingy offers so much adventure in Australia. There are many rivers to explore on the east coast, then Moreton Bay, Harvey Bay and then the Great Barrier Reef.

    Another great video. I own the Bayraider 20, they are beautiful boats. Maybe an idea for a video is to go over different rigging types and there benefits. It maybe a little controversial since everyone has there favorites. Also when you guys are planning a cruise before you know wind conditions, in general how far do you plan to go in one day?

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  3 місяці тому

      Hi different rig options is a good idea. We tend to post a Raid about a month out for 1 or 2 nights. As we sail mainly in inland waterways, we normally pick a destination that will be out of the wind at night....so we always have a few options . Unlike in Europe where they tend to go up estauries to a town. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

      Well the mizzen traditionally balances the jib if you don't have the main up, so you can sail with 2 sails up instead of reefing.
