Thank you for watching, hope you enjoyed it. I flip outboards on the side and it isn’t always the most profitable but quite fun! And since you bothered to look in the description here is a secret: I’m saving up for sailboat that will take me around the British isles in 2026. And the boat in the thumbnail is a trapper 300, which would be my dream boat to do it in- but it will likely be something...

Great footage. Really caught the feeling of what it’s like out there.
Good to see that Über eats {dad's delivery service} was able to get a nice fresh sandwich to you out on your sale. The only comment would be that I would have preferred to see you do something with the plastic wrap vs just throwing it into the plastic into the foot well. As a sailor I don't need to tell you about how harmful that plastic wrap is to marine life!! 😮😮😮😮😢😢😢😢😢 And the most important thing about a bathroom break on your sailboat is to NEVER pee into the wind, regardless of Port or Starboard side of the boat!!! 😮😅😅😂😂😂
Happy boy ! I'd like to be as old as you.
I often sailed on my own on my old 38" with 40 knots. I was afraid but the pleasure of struggling with the elements was stronger. Now I am 77, when wind over 30 knots, I stay anchored. It is more careful. I saw there is three or four Brits in the "Vendée Globe". I hope one of them will win.
' Marine Biology ' Mr. N. the way to go. As for parental concerns , be that solo sailing or pulling beer in a pub , most parents have some negative thoughts about their ' little boys ' outings.. :) You seem very sure of the path you have chosen for the next few years and all I can say is ' go for it '. From this very ' old salt' I trust you make time to engage with some much ' younger salts ' in your travels. Cheers from Oz.
Thank you!
Never give up attitude... that's what I like young fella.
That's a long time in a Laser. You are amazing!!
Good morning Nestor ! I apologise, it is a long time I do not write you but I watch all your videos. I was sailing in Croatia with a little cousin. Croatia is the best country of my voyage round Mediterranean. It is too late to participate in the the "Vendée Globe". I hope there are British and I hope in four years time there will be one called Nestor Montagu.
Thank you! No need to apologise!
Really enjoying your content Nestor, keep up the great work!
Hey... I missed your live event... where do you announce that? Elsewhere, instead of doing 'boring' work during your gap year, why don't you check out some of the sailing schools that offer long term 'schooling'? The Netherlands has several that are solid. You literally sail around the word for an extended period of time. Just a thought.
I announced it on UA-cam as a post- should appear on your feed I think. Definitely an idea, hadn’t really considered it before
G'day Nestor ..... like your raw truthfulness style videos mate. Just with "pee" process, no kneeling or any other move that puts your body in a potentially dangerous situation needed mate. A hand held plastic jug mate does the trick and its safe .....
Thank you! And thanks for tip, that definitely sounds better lol
Great little boat, congrats! New to the channel so just catching up:). Btw, what is the British term you used for the head at 5:00? Never heard that one ahaha
Ha! It was actually french- in england we have a tendency to say french words with an intentionally bad accent
@@nestorandhisboat ahaha ok that explains it:). Been enjoying your videos; keep on sailing!
Enjoyable challenge. You must have a great sense of achievement and satisfaction.
What a great adventure taking on the elements of the sea! Great video!
Thank you!
My wife paddleboarded around the IOW! I did 60km of it and was shattered.
6:03 bloody seahorses 🙃
respect to you. i have an ocean cruiser and only potter about in or just outside the harbour.
Nesta, a bit late. If you haven't followed him yet, check out Patrick Laine, a Canadian, now living in La Rochelle , who does lots of solo sailing. Love your channel. Hope going back to school is not too much of a drag. Just think, half term in October 😅
Already follow him! Big fan of his channel, very technical indeed interesting- plus he has an awesome boat. Just one more year left of school then sailing!
Aww! Wow! Someone has good taste .. 😄 Putting off fixing the garden fence and using any excuse I checked out a bit of UA-cam and Nestor's Channel. Unexpected excitement and happy thoughts when you mentioned the possibility of sailing a Hunter Impala. I had an Impala for several years and myself and friends had endless fun with it. That was 1982 to about 1989 or 1990 .. I forget exactly. The boat is still going along somewhere in Cornwall I think. No. K9542 .... Goosebumps. A good boat that responds to proper sail trimming and tweaking. Up here in Scotland our biggest yearly yacht race event is the Scottish Series out of Tarbert, Loch Fyne. The overall winner for 2023 was an Impala sailed by a young owner (like yourself) and team who had resurrected and overhauled the boat themselves. All the Scottish and Irish millionaires wondering about money spent on their latest Melges or J Boats. LOLzzzzz I think of that now old boat with great affection all the time and just two days ago I found an old photo when cleaning out some boxes from life's hoarding of junk. I could never sail in one now. It's a two person boat for cruising although often we managed seven. Excess alcohol cures everything that's cold and wet. (remember it's Scotland and Scots). Great stuff Nestor
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying it. Awesome story, thanks for sharing, hopefully one day I will have one!
Thank you for pointing out the landmarks, it makes it more interesting!
Nestor......keep living this dream!!!!! WELL DONE!
Live your dream sailing. It's fun watching!
I would prefer the sadler too (as obviousely your parents do) for your round-trip, if possible. Very stable and maniable in rough conditions which will probably occur in the north-sea part (always prepare the worst). If you'll preferably crew-up on this trip, i guess it's too early to speak about. Finish school first lol (Peter)
Thanks for your advice peter, it is a solid boat its true. I think it will end up being a fairly last minute decision. And in terms of crew, I would like to do a mix of solo sailing and with crew, likely doing North Sea and West coast of scotland with crew for obvious reasons lol
@@nestorandhisboat 👍
Cool boat! Nice home away from home
9:00 The best way to take in your mainsail is to heave-to. Bring her up on to the wind, then tack but leave your headsail cleated on the old tack. Now release your mainsheet and push your tiller hard down. The boat will slow down and ride easily about 60° - 80° off the wind with the jib aback and the mainsail largely blanketed by the jib. You can now drop the mainsail and, as it comes down, progressively take in the mainsheet and centre your boom. Secure your main, take your headsail across, pull your helm up and you’re back off downwind again. Three minutes, tops, if you’ve done it a few times. Heaving to is in danger of becoming a lost art in this age of scheduling and fixation on time and speed. Most boats will fore-reach at something like a knot or two, when hove-to, but with considerable leeway. In a seaway, it may make it possible to cook in conditions that would rule it out, otherwise.
Thanks for the tip! Really appreciate it. Never sailed with in mast furling before so completely new to me! Thanks
I learned Marine bio in Suva Fiji with USP and University of Auckland NZ. What ever you do - get a look at a tropical marine/ reef ecosystem. Its mind blowing. I did sale part time - but only small craft - started with a Starling.
Awesome!
Dame Ellen MacArthur sailed around the UK in 1995 at the age of 19. She went through the Caledonian Canal. She went on to do great things in sailing. Her book 'Taking on the world' is a great book. You did really well live, not an easy thing to do. Well done.
Take the offer to Newfoundland if you can, you will talk about it for many years. My grandfather was talking about it the day he died at 96, he loved his life at sea and as a sailor 😊
You have one of my favorite sailing channels because it's real and raw not so manicured
Thanks for answering. You my friend have a busy year to come
Nestor enjoying you sailing adventures, but the question is the Volvo around the world sailing adventure, when do you start?
Maybe one day!
Our daughter did the UKSA Super Yacht Cadetship, with a degree in Operational Yacht Science. Opens up professional sailing careers
This old boy is sailing round the world and highlights many of the issues one experiences when solo sailing similar in someways to Garrets Adventures but worse. www.youtube.com/@AdventuresofanoldSeadog
Plans: keep writing the pros and cons and parents tend to know you best so apply their pros and cons too. Then there’s you and your final decision. You know you.
Very humorous a new character- a sea hobbit. 😂😂. May all your plans be realised.
Great focus and great adventures, past present and future. And no not a salty sea dog yet!!
Thank you Anne for all the nice comments, I will keep thinking about the round UK trip and aim to be as prepared as possible
I know nothing about boats or sailing but really enjoyed your intelligent and thoughtful video sharing your hopes and dreams for the future. I liked the travelogue aspect of your Welsh trip. Do think about sharing your interest in marine biology. Not a stupid idea, now is the time to live your dream. Good luck with all you fo.
Thank you! Really glad you;’re enjoying the videos
Brilliant watch. Missed the live but pleased I got to it in the end. Looking forward to the next chapter!
Just got home from the pub bro..Dartmouth is pretty epic so you should come some time I have to fly back tomorrow sadly to get ready for my Uni return (that sucks) M5 and Bristol here I come : (
PS I dont know how to coffee comment..anyway Im going back to College next week. I have a friend at St Andrews ( very posh Uni) so if you go there I think you'll have a blast
Don’t worry I see all your comments here, sorry for slow replies. I think for me just St. Andrews being on the sea and near the mountains is all I care about lol! Hope going back isnt too bad
@@nestorandhisboat Same with you bro; I was happy to get back to Uni to be honest. Good luck with final year of A levels, it'll suck haha :D BUT St.Andrews seems a perfect location for you after your gap year. I've done it the other way around and will take my year after finishing. Have a great Autumn man and catch you in the Spring I guess
Very well presented Nestor. I enjoyed your live very much, and wish you well with all your plans. I will look forward to future videos and updates on your journey over the next few years. One quick question, with your interest in marine biology will you be doing a scuba diving course in the future?
Yes, I’m planning on doing a course come June/July. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks
Thanks so much David!
Great plan especially studying marine biology gives you yacht life also I have been watching wildling sailing from the start it's a awesome channel too also The boat boys is also a great sailing channel
Yes, hopefully I can get a job that requires me to live on a boat lol
Sounds like great plans. looking forward to following your journey. Your videos are very engaging also. So a TV career I am sure will be in your stars. But that's in the future. James.
Thanks James! Really glad you’re enjoying them
Well Done!
Nice , look forward to it 👍
Great vid. Good training, only way to learn is to do it. I'd look at an alternative to towing the dinghy when outside.
Good video, loved the area description history etc, looks like your driving on the top of a top loading cloths washer during agitation 😵💫👍 BTW forgot to mention how much your passion shines through on journey around the Isle of Wright, great vid/challenge, well done. 😉 Should you feel need to publish donor name, first name only, thanks. Hope your crewing adventures continue.!!!
Thank you so much again! Ha, I think that’s a good description of it! Glad you enjoyed that video. And will do! I’ve got an exciting two days of racing coming up so that’s next
