Sanji was willing to sacrifice his life because he thought his was worthless, while Zoro was willing to sacrifice his because he wanted to protect his crew. I didn't catch this at first but its such a subtle yet powerful message
Sanji trying to sacrifice himself cannot be simply reduced to him thinking he’s “worthless”. That definitely has a part in it but doesn’t mean that his main reason isn’t saving and protecting his friends. Equating his willingness to sacrifice himself just to “he thinks he’s worthless” goes against everything Sanji has done and does for the crew.
It's more than proven that anyone in the crew would sacrifice themselves for the rest, this was a sacrifice for Zoro, he wasn't expecting to come out alive, in any case, I think Sanji would've experienced the same outcome, but Zoro forcefully took the hit instead because he simply cares too much about his crew
I don't think that's the whole of it. Granted, I think a partbof it is that he feels indebted to Luffy and by extension the crew and a feeling that they deserve to achieve their dreams more than he does is also a component, but to say that he doesn't care about the crew isn't accurate. Arlong Arc, where he fought for his own life to save Luffy's? Or remember Sabaody, where he ran at Kuma out of anger for his friends? If he really only felt worthless, he wouldn't have thought for the crew as hard as he did in any of these life threatening situations, he would've just accepted his death. He might not value his life all that much, but he values the lives of his friends
The thing many of one piece fans don't understand as well as 80% of Luffy crew... Is that how much he endures in the fights he has to go through. This is the exact reason why this scene is BY FAR the best Zoro scene there is in this anime. Because he first got a "little taste" of what Luffy has gone through on Triller Bark... and not only did he SURVIVE through all of it but Zoro took it, survived through it as well and felt it all and now his respect for Luffy gone over the top because he knows what it feels like for his captain to take this fights. That's exactly the reason why Zoro basically did ask Mihawk his "enemy" to teach him. Because only after this Zoro really understood how far up Luffy is and how much stronger he has to be. This scene is so small but does so many things for the story many people dont even understand how much this scene really is.

Wow. This arc Zoro consecutively fought Ryuma, endured the fight with Oars, survived Kuma’s Ursus Shock which wiped out most of the crew, and he STILL went on to take all of Luffy’s pain and was still standing. Zoro is the GOAT

One of the most goated anime moments of all time Zoro is an absolute legend. Thank you so much Oda for making this amazing immersive world that has captivated me and a lot of my friends for years and years
There is something poetic about Kuma reading a bible after this, zoro in many ways just made a very christophonic sacrifice, taking on the pains and sins of luffy, and bearing it for his salvation, even saying nothing happened could very well be a phrase of “it is finished”, like it is completed, anime rarely manages to make me cry or demonstrate strong biblical themes, but this, this does put a smile on my face
Actually this just reaffirmed it. He already showed that when he draw the line for luffy in regard to Ussop and how things must be in a ships crew for things to function smoothly.
@@asiansushiamv835 truly worth rewatching that moment again. 1 thing I thought was the case but was t sure, is that Sanji backed up zoro on that point.
In hindsight you knew as soon as Luffy got Zoro out of those knot's in the yard he was going to be the 1st mate. The music, the fact that the author CHOSE to have Zoro be the first one to join the crew, Zoro's ambition to be the best swordsman, all of it says Zoro is the 1st mate.
The slight shakes with the scene at 1:20 make it add to the effect so much. Showing him barely able to keep standing, off balance but still holding himself up. I loved Zoro already but this moment solidified it for me.
i love how brooke simply understand the situation and immediately knew this was not something to be discussed even tho he literally just joined the crew
One of my favorite things about this is how Sanji was the only one who knew what was going on and still kept it a secret. He must’ve treated Zoro’s injuries and washed the blood away so he would look “normal”. It shows how much respect the crew has between each other
One of the most classic memorable moments in history for Zoro where he understood just how much Luffy was going through to make all their dreams come true
Zoro has an insane level of loyalty and willpower. To not only endure this ridiculously high level of torture but to keep what happened to himself so that Luffy wouldn't feel bad about it.
Today i lost a very important companion in my life and this scene was similar to how i was today, i was crying so much but with a serious expression to hide my sadness
And this is one of the main reasons why zoro is my favorite one piece character. He’s a badass and he has undying loyalty to luffy. Honestly that scene gave me goosebumps the first time I saw it and Kazuya did an amazing job here
There's no one more fitting to be Luffy's right hand then Zoro. Even though it isn't official but everyone knows Zoro is the vice captain. He was the first one Luffy recruited and the only one he sought out after hearing about him. He's the first one to back Luffy up in a fight. He's one of the pillars that holds the crew together that much is for sure. Zoro is only second to Luffy for my favorite character in OP.
No its official everybody realizes zoro to be vice captain its just he doesn't always have to be a ben beckman that mostly namis job but when luffy is losing sights or he has to beat the other vice captain he truly becomes a first mate
Realizing now that the reason Zoro says "Nothing happened" wasn't to look cool. He is mirroring Luffy - Luffy almost never complains about how much pain he's in. He just bears it because he has to as the captain. He can't let his crew see him falter
I love that the scene is genuinely implying that Zoro died before the reveal. Like of course he wouldn't die, we know that because he's in future episodes, but imagine watching this or reading it in weekly releases. That shot of Brook's face and the way all the scenes are framed really made it seem like Zoro genuinely died taking Luffy's pain which makes his "Nothing Happened" line perfect
Sanji and Zoro would never admit it, but they both very much care about each other. I love those small moments of care and respect they show towards each other every now and then, even if it’s rare.
True friend: Sanji wakes up and the first thing he does is notice Zoro is missing and searches high and low despite having a hole in his heart and left lung.
I love this because not only does it completely solidify zoros dedication and commitment to his crew mates and not to mention his overall badassery, but it also shows Sanji’s mutual respect and love for zoro. While they typically never seem to get along, deep down, Sanji is also a ride or die straw hat who is lo key best friends with zoro. The straw hats are built different.

This is when everyone knew that Zoro would forever be Luffy’s right-hand man
Sanji fans denies this so many times and did not believe he is the right hand man 🤣, always need someone to confirmed it
Actually this just reaffirmed it. He already showed that when he draw the line for luffy in regard to Ussop and how things must be in a ships crew for things to function smoothly.
@@idealicfool True, how could I forget that moment lol
@@asiansushiamv835 truly worth rewatching that moment again. 1 thing I thought was the case but was t sure, is that Sanji backed up zoro on that point.
In hindsight you knew as soon as Luffy got Zoro out of those knot's in the yard he was going to be the 1st mate. The music, the fact that the author CHOSE to have Zoro be the first one to join the crew, Zoro's ambition to be the best swordsman, all of it says Zoro is the 1st mate.
My mom: "Honey how was school today?"
Me: 1:19
The slight shakes with the scene at 1:20 make it add to the effect so much. Showing him barely able to keep standing, off balance but still holding himself up. I loved Zoro already but this moment solidified it for me.
The VA did a great job, Zoro sounds like he's struggling hard not to decimate his pants from the immense pain.
i love how brooke simply understand the situation and immediately knew this was not something to be discussed even tho he literally just joined the crew
Really makes you shudder to think what made him lose an eye if he survived THIS completely intact.
MOUSTACHE KUN HERE U AREEE :3
i think its just an aesthetic choice
Raleigh too has that same scar covering his left eye 👀
coincidence... I think not!!
@@laughingnotlooking at least he can still use his eye
@@ztephone4267 what makes you think Zoro can't 👀
Here's a tip, history in One Piece repeats itself.. Also Usopp's lies come true.
Comes harder after the last chapter.
Everyone: Zoro is so awesome! Nothing happened!!
1097 Readers: 🗿
Zoro fr really had buccaneer level durability this early on. Different.
Love how Sanji immediately looked for him, they may be rivals, and bicker all the time, but are great friends at heart
Lets all agree this is the moment we went from loving zoro to staning him
Whats stanning
@@thedrunkengreybeareddwarf8431 a Stan is a combination of the words Stalker and Fan.
@@youreallygonnadomelikethat9179 Bruh I was exaggerating
To me it was when zoro makes a promise to luffy saying he will never lose again after being defeated by mihawk
@@ImPolonn To me when he said that I went from liking him to him becoming a choice for my fav one piece charater
He was basically half dead in this scene, but his determination and iron will made his heart still beat.
Seeing this after 1097 really puts a new perspectibe on it from Kuma's side...
0:41 when you laugh too hard
One of my favorite things about this is how Sanji was the only one who knew what was going on and still kept it a secret. He must’ve treated Zoro’s injuries and washed the blood away so he would look “normal”. It shows how much respect the crew has between each other
The fact only sanji, robin and brook know about this… he doesn’t even wanna flex it
Zoro best vice captain
I thought only Sanji knew
@@ijustbevibin0425 nah robin spied with her fruit and overheard what happened
@J so only Brook actually witnessed it happen
And two random guys
One of the most classic memorable moments in history for Zoro where he understood just how much Luffy was going through to make all their dreams come true
Most recent chapter just sent zoros stocks up a bit
Zoro has an insane level of loyalty and willpower. To not only endure this ridiculously high level of torture but to keep what happened to himself so that Luffy wouldn't feel bad about it.
Today i lost a very important companion in my life and this scene was similar to how i was today, i was crying so much but with a serious expression to hide my sadness
Honestly, I respected Zoro before this scene, but when it finally hit with his selfless sacrifice to Luffy, he gained even more of my respect.
No its official everybody realizes zoro to be vice captain its just he doesn't always have to be a ben beckman that mostly namis job but when luffy is losing sights or he has to beat the other vice captain he truly becomes a first mate
just look at the amount of blood that man has lost, all that purpleish red on the ground is blood, yet he's still standing AND speaking. What a lad.
Out of the whole crew, Sanji and Zoro have a mutual understanding that goes beyond even brotherhood. They basically share half of their braincells.
The man was told he would literally die if he took all of Luffy's pain, and he just didn't
Didn’t Oda say he did die but his soul got lost and ended up back to his body?
Realizing now that the reason Zoro says "Nothing happened" wasn't to look cool. He is mirroring Luffy - Luffy almost never complains about how much pain he's in. He just bears it because he has to as the captain. He can't let his crew see him falter
I love how Zoro did not just take Luffys pain but also did not wanna tell him because it would also hurt him
I love that the scene is genuinely implying that Zoro died before the reveal.
I came here after chapter 1102, holy s***.
Zoro act is the definition of: Being a Man. Loyal as hell
Sanji and Zoro would never admit it, but they both very much care about each other. I love those small moments of care and respect they show towards each other every now and then, even if it’s rare.
1:09 That face describe so well our feelings in that moment
This shows how much luffy was suffering for his friends.
Reading the new chapter made this scene more powerful. Peak piece
Its Been 15 Years since Nothing Happened.
Everybody talking bout Zoro but mah boi Brook witnessed *True Loyalty*
And they say Sandi and Zoro don’t like each other. They are just like brothers.
Brook looking speechless is a underrated moment
The fact, that Sanji is worried, is just absolutely great
@0:28 when sanji realizes Zorro wouldn't have let go of his swords for anything. Anything less than dying for.
This moment made me respect Zoro so much. Best Vice captain in one piece
Rewatching the "nothing happened" scene hits so much harder now after reading 1096
Wait until you get to chapter 1097
Zoro stood on his freaking BUSINESS!!!!!!
rewatching after 1097 hits very different fr
That is by far the most badass scene in every anime i have ever saw. I have seen it so many times and still gives me chills
Zoro is the epitome of stoicism. He's just that guy🗿💯
