Nami's constant unease, Usopp's fear that is worn on his face like constant mask and Luffy's stoic stare understanding what this fight means for Zoro. It's all perfect. Luffy was willing to stand by and watch his own Vice Captain die in front of him if it meant he died fighting for his dream. I hope all of these guys are getting a raise.
I love how he didn't verbally make a spectacle of Yoru. The calm of it. He didn't raise his voice in the slightest, and his delivery of it was just peak!
Because it makes sense. The Black Blade is the strongest sword in the world... to the world's swordsmen. But he knows the truth, any sword that you put powerful enough Haki into can become The Black Blade. The sword is the strongest because HE is the strongest.
@@PEARLSTOTHEPLAYERS when he reads zoro achieved black blade status in the newspaper he'll show up to their next meeting with his sword painted a random color and go "And this is the color your sword takes when you go even further beyond"
This is what live action supposed to be, what a great scene. The emotional and the realistic of each actor is on point. Zoro and Mihawk is nailed it on this.
zoro is nowhere near as ambitious as the anime tho, makes his defeat obvious, in the anime you would slightly expect hope from zoro and then its ripped away
Something I've only just twigged is that, if he wanted to, Mihawk could have easily cut Zoro in half with Yoru. The amount of control needed to cut Zoro and avoid gutting him is another example of Mihawk's skill.
I mean, in his first scene he slices both a pistol shot and a cannonball with a single swing and with so much precision that both pieces of the pistol shot go in the perfect directions to hit two people that were behind him. I feel like that's a more impressive feat of dexterity.
Later in the series we're told about the difference between power-type and speed-type swordsmen. Mihawk bridges both, establishing him as the true top master.
@@vaiyt We're also shown later that master swordsmen, like Mihawk, are able to cut only what they want to cut and nothing more. Honestly, I can't wait to see Zoro learn to cut steel.
Also, he doesn't have a Devil Fruit power or even a crew on his own. He only sails with a small ship but somehow he knows every single place in the seas including The Marine Base. Also, we never see him have a single scratch or scar throughout the series and he's also super rich to live in a big ass castle alone (until Perona and Zoro have to stay for 2 years because of Kuma) This man and Shanks are still the most mysterious characters in One Piece even for 25 years of running.
I also like his little hint about haki (you're strong but strength isn't everything), there are some episodes where they really get the most they can out of the dialogue
@@dark3rthanshadows "It's easier said than done"? Sure. No one is saying it's easy. But at least they tried. And only because Oda wouldn't let them do it at all if he didn't get complete creative control. It's not supposed to be easy. Easy is just putting out another POS adaptation that ruins everything about the source material like Cowboy Bebop or Dragonball Evolution. Easy sucks.
Had the opportunity to meet Steven Ward earlier this year at a ComicCon, super cool guy, didn't mind fulfilling my request of re-enacting the scene where Mihawk cuts Zoro (me playing Zoro of course 😆). My top 1 coolest ComicCon experience by far. Thanks Oda, Perfect casting choice 🙏
The duel was so good, they combined some great use of fastened CGI and practical choreography. Mihawk's voice, style, mannerisms were Perfect. Straight out of the anime. Zoro's no-nonsense retorts were nice. Mihawk saying "Magnificent" to Zoro's resolve was just chilling and emotional.
Mackenyu nails those emotional moments and fights scenes. But I hope Zoro vs Mr 1 is more like Kenshin vs Enishi in choreography. I want an original fight rather than trying to copy the anime/manga.
Why the fuck did they cut his dialogue. This was supposed to be a harsh moment for those that paid attention to zoro’s techniques. Zoro busts out his secret most powerful technique and doesn’t even scratch Mihawk, even the name is meant to be ironic. “3000 worlds”, despite zoro having only seen the east blue and knowing little of the world as a whole.
Let's not forget, though not blatant, this was Mihawk using his observation Haki in full effect. I love how they still subtly show the haki in the beginning before we ever truly know what it is.
I was not interested in watching this series but this has changed my mind. They took one of the most important moments in the manga/anime and gave it everything they could, there were little adjustments for live action but overall they kept the core of it. Zorro’s sheer bloody determination and integrity as well as Mihawks disdain that grew into grudging respect
I LOVE how in highly powerful or swift attacks they yank the camera a little bit and also skip a few frames so it actually looks like the characters move much faster than we can see.
The actors did a great job portraying the characters, and the special effects were awesome. The sword clashes, the blood, the scars, the emotions, everything was on point. I especially liked how they showed Zoro’s determination and pride as a swordsman, and how he refused to give up even when facing the world’s greatest swordsman

They did this moment of the Baratie justice, and I liked the switch up of having him be the main villain over Don Krieg given how important he was for Zoro's early development.
I felt like it was a bit of a missed opportunity. Krieg served so many purposes at this stage of the series. He was the big bad bounty in the east blue, chased back out of the grand line in shambles. He really was there to drive home just how AWFUL the grand line can be. The weather, the directions, and the random monsters, some in human skin, that you might stumble over. It made it clear that the grand line is a BIG DEAL and its not something to be entered with a stupid grin and breezy self confidence. Then he served to make the viewers (and straw hats) see how scary mihawk is, and how irrational events can be. His entire fleet slaughtered and him chased down to the baratie over a ruined nap. But it also shows us the determination of luffy and crew to fight, to keep pushing on, and show they can handle someone on kriegs level, only for zoro to be squashed by a mihawk that honestly LIKED the guy, and that makes it even more terrifying. I mean, if he got crushed that bad by a dude who likes and respects zoro and his goals and determination, as well as his outlook on being a swordsman, how bad would it have been had he been angry?
@@chrishubbard64 Yes but there's only so much you can fit into a live action series like this, and between showing a random pirate who gets his ass handed to him early on, and one of the Seven Warlords who are MAJOR antagonists throughout the entire show, the choice is clear.
@@chrishubbard64he was also a true test of Sanji's morals. Gin and Krieg both served that purpose. Sanji was given two chances to kill a wanted man and save hundreds in the process but he chose not to. Whether or not to feed Gin and Krieg was a moral dilemma Sanji had to face and he chose to stick to his philosophy and feed them both at the price of putting Krieg back on his feet and making him able to take over the Baratie. Mihawk simply killing Krieg obviously ruins that initial character development.

I got an idea. Oda said that One Piece was initially not meant to be that long and the warlords were planned to be the main antagonists. What if they adapt that version? We can still have Skypie and Marineford but we will likely not see Kaido or Big Mom. Shanks might be the strongest warlord or canditate in this version.

3:46 WTF why nami holding usop hands 😂
I think they're holding hands because they are worried about Zoro and they are friends.
It's all platonic. Oda was very specific to Netflix that he doesn't want romance between the strawhats.
for emotional support, you dumdum
@@spinningpig2347it's not romantic...
Usopp's and Nami's dynamic in the anime is like that too. They hold hands, hug each other when they're scared. It isn't romantic at all, it is just a cute dynamic they have. I'm glad the encorprated that here
The dialog is so good in this show. It perfectly captures the essence of the characters without seeming too cartoony.
Ikr? Normally it seems so tough to adapt anime or game dialogue to a live action setting, but this show, uh, shows that only a few alterations are needed to make it work!
They actually did a great job on the look of all the characters. Doesn’t look to over the top but still match the description of the characters
yes, they didnt overdo it.

I agree with you bro this scene is on 🔥 🗿🗿🗿😂😂
Yeah, and then he goes to respect at the end.
I've never watched One Peice, the pirate guy who wins goes hard
Goathawk ❤🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
@@solaris9426 woo zoro cutting more than steel , to cut without even cutting

Mihawk literally doesn't blink, probably explains why he looks so terrifying all the time and one of the reasons he's the best swordsman
Oh wow I never noticed that in the anime and now the live action you’re onto something
He also makes constant micro adjustments with his head just like a hawk. Nice subtle addition compared to the manga and anime.
I made a compilation of best fight scenes from One Piece, check it out!
Also, he doesn't have a Devil Fruit power or even a crew on his own. He only sails with a small ship but somehow he knows every single place in the seas including The Marine Base. Also, we never see him have a single scratch or scar throughout the series and he's also super rich to live in a big ass castle alone (until Perona and Zoro have to stay for 2 years because of Kuma)
This man and Shanks are still the most mysterious characters in One Piece even for 25 years of running.
I also like his little hint about haki (you're strong but strength isn't everything), there are some episodes where they really get the most they can out of the dialogue
This is what happens when you stay true to the source material. If more anime adaptations come out this way, then I am down for more.
yes and no it's not that easy said than done a lot of adapting is hard and they had a big trouble adapting.
@@dark3rthanshadows "It's easier said than done"? Sure. No one is saying it's easy. But at least they tried.
Mihawk saying "Magnificent" to Zoro's resolve was just chilling and emotional.
the "that remains to be seen" is the line that gets me every time
Mackenyu did well in portraying Zoro's subtle inner turmoil from powerlessness in face of Mihawk and it was beautiful how it turned out.
Mackenyu nails those emotional moments and fights scenes. But I hope Zoro vs Mr 1 is more like Kenshin vs Enishi in choreography.
I want an original fight rather than trying to copy the anime/manga.
@@CosmoLav everyone will complain lol
Why the fuck did they cut his dialogue. This was supposed to be a harsh moment for those that paid attention to zoro’s techniques. Zoro busts out his secret most powerful technique and doesn’t even scratch Mihawk, even the name is meant to be ironic. “3000 worlds”, despite zoro having only seen the east blue and knowing little of the world as a whole.
People can nitpick as much as they want but this was bloody marvellous.🙌🏼👏🏻
Let's not forget, though not blatant, this was Mihawk using his observation Haki in full effect. I love how they still subtly show the haki in the beginning before we ever truly know what it is.
I dont think he needed Haki here, juat pure skill. Zoro was miles away from making Mihawk need to use that.
not every dodging sequence in one piece is observation, zoro was dodging kumas paw spam attack flawlessly without using haki

I made a compilation of best fight scenes from One Piece, check it out!
I can't take this seriously... But at the same time, this is actually really good. It's almost a perfect representation of One Piece.

The best casting out of sny anime adaptation ever . Mihawk is 10/10!
They did this moment of the Baratie justice, and I liked the switch up of having him be the main villain over Don Krieg given how important he was for Zoro's early development.
But it was at the expense of Sanji’s early development though.
@@Dovahkiin11they can still redeem it since season 2 will cover tge arc where Sanji is on X Games mode all the way through
I felt like it was a bit of a missed opportunity.
