One piece old artstyle had alot of atmosphere to it especially the sunrise, sunset atmosphere not to mention the night time.. and that nostalgic blur effect when they first introduced Crocodile was so good it is hard to believe how old this anime is.

I would have liked to see how, after alabasta, his perception of the navy and the government would have changed, leading him to want to rise in the ranks to change things while he remained for luffy what garp was for roger
He didn't become weak, the guy already has arms haki. But the people they are facing are stronger. Look at his defeats, law who was a warlord, doflamingo who was a warlord, vergo a vice admiral, and in tashigi body he lost to luffy.

I think this moment is the catalyst for smoker to have that realization. In this scene though smoker is torn between his debt of gratitude and his honor as a marine in going after luffy. A really well written moment. Very underrated

I know Zoro is badass, and everyone like him, but Luffy judgement of characters is so respectable to me. He so genius about that. 3.Luffy never kill anyone. 4.Our captain is so damn the best MC ever! 5. I love Luffy, he deserves to be called Captain of the StrawHat.
Oda is a great writer. I haven't seen this anime in a while way before Smoker introduction but this scene show cases his character, morals, and way of life really well. Smoker letting them go was one of the hardest thing he ever had to do considering he had to question his own beliefs and what place has he with the Marines. That's very admirable. Smoker also had to swallow his ego and tried very hard to not acknowledge the kindness Luffy has afforded him. Haha
