I know I sound like a broken record here but if you like RPG's and you want a good Modern day one? You need to pick up Dragon Quest XI and or Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant King on the PS4 or the Switch. They are both Excellent beautiful RPG's.
Dragon XI is one of the best RPGS ever made bare minimum at least in the last two console generations. I agree about Man of Medan too. It was too short and wasn't as good as Until Dawn Imo.

Just some random Chef yeah like others have said I’ll sit down to play a game and start browsing my library, can’t make a decision, maybe watch a UA-cam video for some inspiration, still not decide and will have lost like a couple hours lol. One thing I’ve done is itemize my whole library of games (about 850) on a website like backloggery.com. They have a feature on there called fortune cookie, when I can’t decide I will set some parameters like what system I feel like playing, if it’s a game I haven’t played yet or one I’ve been working on finishing, select open fortune cookie and play whatever it gives me

The one thing that puts me off a game is the word “GRIND”. I have big games like Persona 5 and Witcher 3 but haven’t even started them. I’m 42 with a full time job, wife and kids. When I was younger i would play a game on the second hardest level first then headrest level for second play though just to get my money’s worth. Now it’s started on default level and move on. The backlog is real. I’m hoping for more shorter games in future like “a plague tale innocent” I can’t be the only old timer that enjoys shorter story driven games.

#NO... I keep telling myself that one rainy/snowy day I would start to play a game in my collection/12 year backlog. I have been collecting games for nearly 35 years. The last 10 to 12 years it's been incredibly difficult to sit down and play a game for more than 30 minutes due to my family/work schedule. I play Call of Duty online 2 or 3 times a month because it's easy to pickup & play for 30 to 45 mins then head off to bed. I still collect from time to time when I find games I'm interested in for a decent price... one day I will have time to play BUT when that day comes... what game should I play??? 😳 #BacklogProblems 😟

Do you collect SNES? Maybe try playing some of those games as you can just pickup and play any time for whatever amount of time you want. I’ve found now I’m older it’s easier to play Megadrive or SNES games because they don’t have a 50 hour story arc etc and they are super fun to play and to collect. ;)

I feel that in some ways we have a similar pattern. We buy games we want to play. This is totally me. When something catches my eye and I want to have that experience I buy it. Most of the time this is fine and I feel ok about going through my library to choose the next game to play. Sometimes I get overwhelmed when a whole bunch of games come out at the same time that I want to beat and games that I want to play continue to release. I have very little self control when it comes to picking and choosing between a whole bunch of games I want to play.
I hope that I can get to all the games that I have at some point. In my head that if games ever go completely digital, that may be the time I stops buying new releases and just start hitting my backlog.

I'm an adult, a family man with a full time job. I have a PS4 and love gaming. Modern games require a commitment of time.
Thankfully, with the games I like to play Far Cry 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, you can save as you go along and pretty much start back from where you last saved. That has saved my gaming life.
Some of these games take me weeks to months to finish because of responsibilities and I'm a completionist. I spend a lot of money on these games and I want to get my money's worth.

Totally agree Reggie, as our time is limited, the choice of games to play becomes vitally important. My decision is shaped by four criteria: 1) GOTY worthiness, 2) nostalgia/classic factor, 3) personal preferences and 4) time required to beat (shorter is generally better, if 50+ hours, the game HAS to be a masterpiece). I'm extremely picky and go only for games that tick most of these boxes, that way I know my time is well invested.

You are absolutely correct Reggie, as a kid I used to play 5 or more hours a day, now as an adult I only play from 1 to 2 hours but not everyday. I'm quite fine with that because I'm busy doing other things. Either I'm working or spending time with my girl watching Netflix. I do buy a lot of video games but most of the time when I start a game I try to finish it. Right now I'm play Destroy all Humans 2 and I'm enjoying the heck out of it.

You know as sad as I am that things are going towards digital-only, a part of me can’t wait, so I can give up on buying new games and play my backlog. I work for a living, and if I never bought another game I could never play all the games I have. I’m kind of disgusted with this collector I’ve become!

I used to work 80+ hours a week and still had time for gaming every night, now I only work 40 a week and feel like I have so little time. For me currently, it's a struggle trying to balance my time on my days off between catching up on my housework, relaxing and spending time with my gf and her children. In the end I don't have much time for me in general. I keep collecting because I'm sure I'll eventually be able to play again, and I don't want to miss out on getting certain games before their value becomes too restrictive.

I know I just play the games that I like. I take my time with them and enjoy them. Even if it takes me a month or more to beat a game I’m OK with that and then I move onto the next game that I’m interested in. as an adult with a kid and a full-time job I don’t have nearly the time to play as I used to but I just take my time and beat them one game at a time. And I just look at my backlog it’s something to do when everybody goes to this all digital future they talk about.

I have actually gotten better in the past year or two about buying only one or two games a year at release. I bought Sekiro day one to play with a friend and I am buying Borderlands 3 day one to play with that same friend.
I have a backlog of somewhere around 400 games to play but most of my backlog is stuff I got for free through Twitch Prime, Epic Game Store, Playstation Plus and the rare free game through Humble Bundle, Steam or GOG.
Out of my entire backlog, I'd say I have about 100 must play games that I will be trying to prioritize over the next few years to get back on track. Here's hoping.

I also stay away from RPGs and games with a lot of reading text. I just dont wanna invest that kind of time in just one game. Love game pass for the convenience and trying out a lot of games. Saved me a ton of money already.

A lot of games these days aren't as 'good' in terms of how they were. Sure graphically games are better, but a lot of times, plot, gameplay, etc are not that good, but still worth it IMO.
The crazy thing is that back then, we had more time to play but less ability to actually get games. Now we have more money to get games, but don't have as much time.

My backlog has become ridiculous. If I never bought another game my entire life I think it would still take me 10 years to beat every thing I currently have. And I’m talking about great games . I play them for a couple of hours and love them but by be next time I get to play there’s a new game out that I have to try that’s just as good. Then they keep releasing all the games from 10 or 20 years ago that were once in my backlog before that I never had time to play. So I buy them just so they go back to my backlog again. Plus these games are too long. This is one situation that I just haven’t figured out how to handle.

It seems that depending on what season it is my gaming habits change so I learned to ease up on putting too much pressure on myself.
Having a library of games to choose from just makes the fruit of the gaming hobby more richer and fulfilling.

My time for playing games is about 45min to an hr every night after my kids are asleep. After they are asleep, i have little to no energy to even boot up a console. Its depressing. I need to leverage my Switch for playing games while im at work or commuting, but the joycons are so uncomfortable to hold and the lack of a d-pad makes me feel like im forcing myself to play on it. I need more ergonomic joycons and a REAL d-pad for me to fully enjoy the Switch. However, i do carry my Switch in my backpack where ever i go so I have it when i get the itch to play.

The people who ask this questions. How do you play all your games or why do buy games if you can't play them. Why do you buy groceries? Why do buy more than you need to eat that night?
Because you plan on eating other stuff later. Obviously its not food but its the same mentality.
Alot of the games in my collections I've finished them before or came close. Others are stuff that I want to play or got a taste of and want the full experience. I personally do blindly buy any game. Anything I buy I know what I'm getting.
