    My respect for solid state amps grew immensely the moment I realized they often came with shitty speakers attached to them, good work.

    thanks for giving me that idea, yesterday i did that exact mod to my ga10 and today i added normally closed jacks to two other 15w combo amps to give them external speaker jacks without adding a plug to the built in speaker.

    My niece gave me her old dusty Christmas combo. Not bad not bad...a Washburn "Washacaster" and a Yamaha GA10. I thought the 6" speaker was a joke. Even a beginner likes bass. I might plug it into my Marshall 4x12. Thought about using it to drive the piss out this old 6 Mullard EL34 SOUND CITY MkIV 120 input. The SC 120 has a '100v speaker line out from the Output Transformer. I'd love to plug it into an abandoned K-Mart or grocery store PA speaker system, as all of the old Bogen and such store PA amps are 100v instead of 4,8,16 ohm.

    Moral of the story. Greenbacks make everything sound good

    Just bought one of those GA-10's in new condition for 12 dollars. For what they are you simply can't beat them. A practice should be as basic as possible, it forces the player to use their skills to make the amp sound good - not the other way around. What you hear out of a basic amp is exactly the way you are playing the guitar, and thats the way it should be!

    This is a great idea to repurpose these GA 10s. I’m a bit of of a newbie when it comes to wiring sounds electronics. Could you possibly post a link for the jack sockets you buy? I looked all over Amazon but I couldn’t find those 2 side terminal ones. Thanks and great video!:)

    No amp has Bluetooth "out" only Bluetooth "input" or what's known as a receiver.........5:37 they're a little bit short because you cut them incredibly short for some reason 😢 I'm thinking a larger driver might just fit into the chassis?

    What about changing the speaker to a 10w 4 ohm

    I picked up a GA-15 for £10 (spares or repair) not working and fixed it for 10p with a new internal fuse, then I fitted a "speaker out" socket (really easy) and run it into a 2x12 cab, it sounds so much better than it has any right to.

    Hi Kieran I have the zoom GFX 8 effects processor but no amplifier,so my question is can I just run my electric guitar via headphones through that for practice by the way I'm asking because I don't have any headphones either, just asking before I go and buy some, bimble on bro
    Edit, turns out it does work 😂😂.

    any reason you why you can't use the headphone jack and a double male headphone cord to the 4x12?
    headphone jack >male headphone connection long cord ->mail headphone connection->4x12

      There is a reason, it's something to do with signal strength, it will work (somewhat) but it won't have the power. Better to do the mod shown or a variation thereof, it's not really hard.

    I was just wondering I know that this is a year old and apologies but is there anyway to play heavy metal on this?

    • @Anon-mk4ms
      @Anon-mk4ms 4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, buy an overdrive pedal and use that with the amp.

    I've seen a few people are taking these things and are literally cutting them down to make amp heads.

    I'm waiting for people and manufacturers to realize that what makes modern practice amps sound bad (both analog solid state, digital, and also tube) is the tiny cabs and speakers. I've owned vintage low powered amps (5 watts and less, both tube and solid state) from the 60s and 70s that came in larger cabs with 12" or 2x10" speakers, and they sounded Great. A combination of people wanting portability and manufacturers wanting to have the cheapest possible manufacturing costs is destroying modern low-powered amp tone.

    • @gmrspares
      @gmrspares  2 роки тому +2

      Agreed. A 5 watt valve amp into a 4x12 is perfect for me and plenty loud for most uses. Its the silly little speakers.

      Totally agree, I put a high quality set of headphones plugged into a 3w honeytone amp. Instantly you have fender bassman/ Peavey classic tone.

    • @Anon-mk4ms
      @Anon-mk4ms 4 місяці тому +1

      Yep, 100% right. I've been fitting speaker out sockets to little practice amps for years now and running them through a 2x12 cab, and the change in sound/tone quality is astounding, I would also say that using the on board distortion circuit is almost always terrible, they should fit amps with a reverb instead, which is a much more forgiving and useful effect for a beginner players in my book, if you want distortion then buy a pedal, a cheap distortion pedal will always be 100x better than the awful distortion circuits fitted to most practice amps.
