I bought one of these brand new when they released. It's the one pedal I've held onto for more than 20 years. I think there was a manufacturing defect that no one noticed. I've had 2 friends buy one because they loved mine. They both complained there's was too dark, sounded nothing like mine, and the treble control did nothing. Well, when I opened them up to investigate, I noticed that upon original assembly the C22 capacitor was bent over and shorting out. I bent the C22 capacitor back into place and in a way it couldn't be moved when I reassembled the pedal. This fixed their treble problems.
Your crybaby mod kits were the start of me tinkering and learning how to solder. This lead to being able to build pedals from PCBs and performing mods to mainstream ones. Thank you very much for offering a fair service and actually responding to questions over the years. These videos are the icing on the cake as we finally get to see the wizard behind the curtain 🤗
Your little plexi sounds fantastic. I disagree that the Deep knob sounds bad on the Marshall however. Its just personal taste. The top end i think you did somewhat fix. But that Marshall pedal is a weird beast of a pedal. Either way I love the sound of your Marshall. And you sell them remarkably cheap, 40 quid in a kit or 80 built!
Hi Guys, I wanted to share my exp. I bought this pedal used in a mint state for 80$. From the start I did not like the depth and clarity in lower end tones, especially when playing riff and chords, mid and treble were sort of inn-responsive, with a little to none effectiveness when combining color of the tone. What i did is actually just removed C22 capacitor and voila, the pedal is a different beast, sort of combination of Boss DS-1 and original MK1 sound blended together. Mid and treble are highly sensitive now and only harshness that I can see is when I crank the knobs from 3 o'clock and higher on gain and volume while using high amount of treble and mid to the sound. Anyways, perhaps I will try this setup later on, but I highly recommend at least that you guys do C22 removal, as your pedal will be on a whole new level. My setup now is: Gain-3 o'clock, Deep-9, Bass-2, Mid-12, Treble-10, Tone-3. All the best.
Best mod for this pedal is to put a black marker on the marks on the knobs i cant see anything how this is set when i use it I am listing to this on monitors and i cant hear a difference with the mod i always liked the JCM800 sound so i prefer the pedal stock
What does it do, I use my LPB-1 as a clean boost AFTER my od and distortion (acting as a preamp) with great results, as opposed to it being the first thing after my guitar.
I recently went back to my "analog" phase coming from a few years using a Fractal Audio Systems AX8, it sounded pretty good for direct recording but I couldn't get it to sound right through my 212 cab, now I'm using my twenty something years old GV-2 as a preamp with a couple of pedals before and after it (OD and a clean boost) into a TC Electronics BAM 200 and I can't get enough of it. There's something about analog circuits that just can't be replaced IMO. Edit: UPDATE I caved in and ordered a Little Plexi today, my GV-2 has a broken gain pot (fell from basically full stack height many moons ago), I recently ordered the replacement pot and I might modify it to MKI specs to use as a backup, or leave it as is. Will update when I receive my Little Plexi :).
Your pedal was definitely better, however your point about picking one up dirt cheap still makes a good deal if you just want to spice up your tone. Can I make a request? I have a mod kits “persuader deluxe” tube pedal and was wondering if you had any ideas on how to really make it growl? Thanks, keep the vids coming 😊
Hello, excellent video. very interesting and informative....I would have liked to listen to the Marshall Guvnor GV-2 with the Gain pot turned to the maximum to know the differences in the saturation of the modified pedal. Could you show it please?
I've had 3 of these things and had a different sound come from each, one sounded muddy all the time with hardly any treble but had a fuzzy sound when the overdrive and treble were turned all the way, the other two had a perfect low, mid, hi, i used on all sorts of speakers and cack when I had no 'proper' amplifier and got a marshal amp sound. It's Like these things need kicking around a bit first 😂
Hi, he entirely bypassed the deep section, does it reduce the overall volume as this demo indicates? Btw, i went through your video first, very impressive and with strong arguments :) after i mod mine as you suggest, i will go to your channel and leave my comments, Cheers!

I love the "Storytime with Kieran" format to your videos these days.
Hope you had a great birthday!

Hi mate had the mk1 myself swapped for another pedal bad move but have the G2 and it's not too bad.
