Well, I'm Brazilian and I spent my childhood and adolescence in the 80's, so obviously I'm a fan of tables from that time, and JPSalas recently made beautiful versions of Taito do Brasil arcade tables, such as "Hawkman", "Vortex", "Zarza ", "Cosmic", "Polar Explorer", "Rally", etc, and are my faves in VPX.
That you started the video with my beloved Fish Tales has touched my heart, it was possibly the first pinball I played seriously and will always be in my personal top ten. Tales from the Crypt was added in a later update to this video. There are 4 official Updates which add (and sometimes, but not often, subtract) more tables. I recommend watching the video link in this comment, and update 4 to be fully up to date. ua-cam.com/video/vLPwWEgsYpw/v-deo.html Cheers, D

100% agree. I already had most of these in the list I wanted, but it had been a while since I looked for new tables and was worth watching the vid for :D
Also, anyone starting should explore using Pinup Baller Installer from Nailbuster. (All the visual pinball software in one package) - Be sure to read the directions carefully.
Honestly 38 tables is pretty good. Most of these were made in the 90s too, which shows how lucky some of us were to be born around then and enjoy them in arcades.
Thank you very much for this list! all of these covered tables are just awesome. Mine favorites are AC/DC (LUCI version), Fish Tales, Evel Knievel, The Addams Family, Attack from Mars, Medieval Madness, and Theatre of Magic. Elvis is very nice, but its gameplay isn't my favorite.
Great essential list! I have no love for Bigus Mods and always have issues with them, especially his choice of physics implementation. Both the VPW Monster Bash and Batman Data East versions are leaps and bounds better than his versions, and the best there currently is out there for those tables. The Monster Bash kicks your butt but in a rewarding kind of way ;-) . I presume you made the video before VPW LotR's came out, as that is certainly the best version available to date. You missed my favourite table now, Tales from the Crypt, also by VPW. Unfortunately, there is no good version of my favorite table (that I know well from FX3) and that is Red and Ted's Road Show. Hopefully, someone gets to this soon. I also have many other tables that I could add to the list as essentials... a sure sign that we are blessed with the variety available and the awesome work the VPX designers do.
After a lot of feedback on this video, I gave the VPW Batman a second chance and admit it is very good! The VPW LOTR is also visually fantastic and great (yes, came out after this video). I can't buy into that Monster Bash table though. Tried a few times, Plays fine, but I can't get over the way it looks. I think quite a few others have the same complaint, because there is a rumor Balutito re-skinned the table to bright original colors.
@@deateeshortz4385 Skitso wrote a note in the comments of VPW Monster Bash download to explain that the table's look is purposefully done to represent the original table's incandescent lightning (not remake with LED's) in a dark arcade. He based it on many reference photos and videos. I have a nice and bright screen so have no problem with the darkness. I love the physics and the way the flipper tricks work. The Balito mod is based on the Bigus one if I remember correctly.
@@PinStratsDan definitely not bashing Skitso (no pun intended). One of my favorite VPX Creators. Just my personal preference on the look of the table. I am also worried about future proofing these beautiful works of digital art. Bleeding edge technology, 4K TV's and Gaming Montiors=Blacks just keep getting blacker, whites just keep getting whiter. Some tables may be unplayable in the near future, if the dark table trend doesn't stop.
@@deateeshortz4385 that's just the thing... it isn't just black for black's sake. It is very carefully and meticulously lit and the playfield baked to create a specific atmosphere. Skitso (and the other top developers) use colour-graded screens so they make informed choices and decisions on lighting. It would thus look even better on a future screen with perfect colour representation and high contrast range. Either way... I'm all about the physics so can't play any of the other versions any more. I'll rather just push the day/night slider up or boost global emissions 😉.
When the Bigus Mods started appearing I loaded them up and in the main they were great.... but over time ,like many others, I've started to replace them. Two reasons for this ... First - some of the changes were minimal cosmetic changes yet the naming of the tables as Bigus_Mod now took all the credit from the original authors who put 99% of the time, effort and skill to create them. Second - most of them just seem to play a lot easier to the point where the fun / challenge of the table greatly diminishes. I still have a few Bigus tables installed that I still play as there is no other credible alternatives. These days though the tables that VPW and the like are putting out are light years ahead in terms of realism than the minimal tweaks made by Bigus.
Agreed. There is no comparison between VPW and Bigus. i have been upgrading along the way also (and should realistically send out an upgrade/update to the essential tables list). However, it is important to note that many of the best tables made, to date, are not 100% VPW (although they are my personal favorite team in the world). My favorite tables of all time are still Pinbot by Bord, and Cirqus Voltaire by Knorr. These have not been updated, created or tuned up by the VPW team. Realistically, as awesome as VPW is, they cannot rebuild/re-tweak every table on earth.
Been finally upgrading from the Bigus tables since I no longer use a 2012 work laptop with 500GB of valuable storage and I was wondering why shots felt so much harder to hit than I was used to! Lmao
This is only for modern (and mostly license themed) tables, though. If you're just getting into pinball emulation, don't overlook the countless great EM's and early Solid States from before the video game takeover! They are usually the ones that keep me playing for score the most tenaciously.
Thanks for this man this is soooo useful wow. I have almost all these tables but just started this insane hours consuming rabbit hole 4 days ago and now have lots of tables to replace haha! Hopefully cuz your vid is a half year old I don't replace a newer table that may be better. The curse of youtube lists lol
ua-cam.com/video/-hA0JhkJPXo/v-deo.html is Update#1. It includes updated versions of the tables on this list which have come out more recently, but not all tables on the list have been retuned or re-released.
Just reinstalling my VPin from scratch due to a dead GPU that managed to corrupt the SSD so this list is useful. FYI if you like Cactus Canyon it's worth the effort to install Cactus Canyon Continued... it's a much better game.
wow, awesome list indeed! would you happen to know if these are included in the Pinball Emporium table list? I found that awhile ago and haven't dove in too much, but LOVE your list - they look awesome! do you usually play in landscape, or do you play with screen in portrait at all?
Nice list! - Re: Addams Color Vs Black and white. What's the best way to run multiple versions of the same table to compare? Ideally the rom would be duplicated so that the scores etc are different. Is it as easy as duplicating the ROM with a different name and then modifying the script? It seems like that might share scores still. Maybe I'm wrong.
I am not a big fan of no good gofers, but Indianapolis_500(4K MOD) 1.2 is a slammin' version of Indy 500 (plays fast), and Rescue 911 is a fun Gottlieb table (v1.0 is the only version I've tested. Table looks decent, Helicopter works, all the bells and whistles).
Great video. I'm quite new to this. I'm guessing you find these files on vpuniverse or vpforums. How do you find the correct rom for each? Often there are multiple
Run the table without the rom. It will fuss that it's missing the rom by name. Then the best way to do it go to the roms section on vpforums. It's under the Visual Pinball tables / vpx section / ROMs. Click on the letter that starts the rom name. - Often there is a link to the rom on the table page. Sometimes the comments have a link to the rom for hard to find ones. Tables with multiple roms can get confusing. Generally start with the most recent version of one. It's easier to see when you go to the rom section. Site searches are kind of messy.
@@brucep383 I don't mess with the bin files generally. The ROM should remain zipped and placed in the rom folder in the vpmame folder. You can rename the zipped rom if needed to match what the table's script wants. If you are using a motion backglass file often labeled as b2s. The table needs to have the same name as the b2s file. Both go in your tables folder This is the video I learned from: ua-cam.com/video/p5zofnnOXJM/v-deo.html
You could also open the table in the editor, open the script and then do a search for "cGameName" which is followed by the name of the ROM currently used. This way you could also change to a deifferent ROM version if you wanted to for some reason.
@@deateeshortz4385 you couldn't be more wrong. VPW goes to great lengths to faithfully recreate these tables and are leaps and bounds more accurate than anything Bigus could ever put out. VPW literally rebuilds their tables from scratch according to the original manual when possible. They buy original plastics to scan and only use accurate original PF scans when available. So to say a dude like Bigus is more accurate when all he does is take other peoples work and change a few things is complete BS. If you like Bigus work better cool, but to say its more accurate is totally false and misleading to new people.
@@iDigStuff Everyone has a right to their opinion, and I love most of the VPW tables, but they went too far with that Monster Bash table. Here is a video of what a real Monster Bash table actually looks like. Judge for yourself. ua-cam.com/video/-m-WUGD6Q1A/v-deo.html The VPW table plays well, but looks like a brand new table that was left in someone's garage during a flood. Every time a play it, I feel like i am playing a broken table with the Bulbs burnt out. I will stick with the Bigus table for now, although there is a rumour that Balutito re-skined the VPW table with bright original colors, so maybe that is a go.
@@deateeshortz4385 In general, I will prefer a VPW table over all others, but I agree with you, Monster Bash is one of the instances where I do not. I encountered issues with the lighting, and balls getting lost during multiball. Unfortunately, the community around VPX designers is hyper-partisan.
The VPW version of this table, is my go to. Definitely a Data East table (pounding music, etc.). Plays very similar to Metallica. Many long targets, most of the action at the top of the playfield. I Like it!
Hang in there buddy, I'm writing an ebook (free/NameYourPrice) in which I go over everything a new user may need to know and learn to do to be able to dominate this great software to run any table (Desktop, Fullscreen, PupPacks, etc). It will be a little biased towards running horror-themed tables, hence the name of the ebook "Visual Pinball for Horror Fans". Yet, the info in it will (obviously) apply to any table. ETA: September 2023.
1) T-Zone shouldn't be relegated to "TOO MUCH STUFF ON THE TABLE". That's precisely why it's a classic. The toys are all incredible and the upper playfield is a lot of fun to play. 2) T-Zone is a Top Ten table for many pinball collectors. 3) The best version of T-Zone is the Skitso Mod 1.5, not the "2.1" version. 4) The Godzilla table on the left isn't the same and doesn't claim to be. While I'm not fond of the new "hybrid" tables which utilize modern JJP and Stern designs on old tables, it's still fun to play the old machines with the modern layouts. 5) How did you forget daphishbowl's "Batman '66"? That table is incredible. Also, I know it's a "forbidden" table due to copyright right now, but "Ghostbusters" isn't here either? Why? Lastly, I wish you'd gone in depth and named some good originals. Off the top of my head, JAWS (Future Pinball), The Evil Dead (VPX using the PY shell stuff), Tiki Bob's Atomic Beach Party (VPX - Reskin of Cheetah but with some awesome lighting effects and music), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (VPX), Stranger Things: Stranger Edition (VPX) are all great original tables. Otherwise, neat video and thanks for putting the version numbers on these.
Respect your input and feedback. LOVE Twilight Zone. I was not relegating it to a specific category (or trying to bury it) but had no other way to describe it. This table is awesome, and very unique with it's wide body, and myriad of (at the time) patents and features. Twilight Zone Skitso mod 2.05 is the current best version of this table, that I know of ( i have to make an update Essentials list), but strong rumors are brewing, that the VPW will be releasing a NEW VERSION of this table, so stay tuned. I was also in the process of making a homemade originals list, but have not had the opportunity to try Evil Dead, and some of the other tables you mentioned. That Godzilla Table is total Garbage. I have no issue trashing it. The STERN Godzilla table in real life is F awesome!!! That VPX Sega hybrid table is junk, and totally offensive to the actual masterpiece that STERN released.
@@gmee123 I'd watch the video anyway, after all there's no guarantee I'll agree in how good the tables are. It's a very personal thing :-) But when you're pissing about on vpforums trying to track down a specific table, the list - which the video maker already has written down - would just be useful, and also encourage me to subscribe and watch other videos. Having to scroll back and forth through videos, only to type a wrong version of a table down, is annoying, particularly when you know the video maker has a written list they could drop into the description with no actual effort. It's the difference between a channel you go back to and one you don't. Who has time to read 4 months of comments ?
lol really? It's the complete opposite and most people would agree. Pinball FX is an arcade game on the xbox/Epic/iOS etc with some cartoony tables. Visual pinball is a simulator. It is way more realistic, especially the physics, and is simply much more accurate. It feels like real pinball.
Cheers for the list.
Just about to build a table, I don't want to wade through hundreds of ROMs, or collect tables just for the sake of collecting. So this type of list is extremely welcome.

Where can I downlaod this tables please?
wow, awesome list indeed! would you happen to know if these are included in the Pinball Emporium table list? I found that awhile ago and haven't dove in too much, but LOVE your list - they look awesome! do you usually play in landscape, or do you play with screen in portrait at all?
Nice list! - Re: Addams Color Vs Black and white. What's the best way to run multiple versions of the same table to compare? Ideally the rom would be duplicated so that the scores etc are different. Is it as easy as duplicating the ROM with a different name and then modifying the script? It seems like that might share scores still. Maybe I'm wrong.
Pretty sure you can just change the rom name and then change the script and then in popper, just add a new table and point it to that modded table.
There so much more tables I can recommend “Indy 500”/“No good golfers”/“Rescue 911” to name some.
I am not a big fan of no good gofers, but Indianapolis_500(4K MOD) 1.2 is a slammin' version of Indy 500 (plays fast), and Rescue 911 is a fun Gottlieb table (v1.0 is the only version I've tested. Table looks decent, Helicopter works, all the bells and whistles).
enjoyed this - subbed
Great thank you
Not a bad list, though I would've included Last Action Hero on the DE list. Such a great pin.
ewww lol jk
Sounds like personal nostalgia talking, the table is so so at best lol
Great video.
@@mikeyfoofoo thanks!
@@mikeyfoofoo do you find you ever have to rename the bin file and zip? Or are they usually the correct filename etc
All digital tables no EM/SS tables ? Many of them are fun and great themselves.
I think it's a personal taste thing. I have about 200 tables loaded up on my machine and about 3 of them are EM.
Where can I find the Bride of Pinbot by bord? I can only find the wrd1972's version.
I'd take the VPW versions of Monster Bash and Batman over the Bigus Mods any day.
I like all of the VPW tables. They are all good, but chose the bigus mods, for the video, because they were more accurate to the real life tables.
@@deateeshortz4385 unfortunately I've never played the real tables but I really like the way the vpw tables play.
Unfortunately, the community around VPX designers is hyper-partisan.
super helpful!!! Thanks for the video.
How do these tables compare to their counterparts on The Arcade Pinball game for PC?
No love for Tales From The Crypt?
The VPW version of this table, is my go to. Definitely a Data East table (pounding music, etc.). Plays very similar to Metallica. Many long targets, most of the action at the top of the playfield. I Like it!
Where can these be acquired?
some tables like whirlwind and monster bash dont play any music at all. Even with volume set to 31 in coin op. Any idea how to fix this?
Wait a second, The Pincredibles Batman 66 table doesn’t make the list?
It is not on the list, but great fun!! and very well done!
wich software you use to play and min pc specs?
I have downloaded several pinball games on VPX but I have loaded some ROM. Please help me!
Is there a site to download VP tables without registration and download limits ?
I would really love to get into VPX, but it’s not beginner friendly. I can only get it to go into edit mode 😕
Super Mario not good??
Nice video update dmd to freezy 1.9
Do you sound like a robot or is this text to voice dictation?
any chance you can give us the links to the tables?
Pretty easy to find if you google the table name and version
probably not, because of copyright issues
Without an actual written list, this video is pointless.
Someone did write a list 4 MONTHS AGO..... make your own by, you know...actually watching the video?
@@gmee123 I'd watch the video anyway, after all there's no guarantee I'll agree in how good the tables are. It's a very personal thing :-)
But when you're pissing about on vpforums trying to track down a specific table, the list - which the video maker already has written down - would just be useful, and also encourage me to subscribe and watch other videos. Having to scroll back and forth through videos, only to type a wrong version of a table down, is annoying, particularly when you know the video maker has a written list they could drop into the description with no actual effort.
It's the difference between a channel you go back to and one you don't.
Who has time to read 4 months of comments ?
Why do you keep randomly pausing your speech mid-sentence and mispronouncing common words?
I believe the voice is computer generated.
The ball movement/physics look like total garbage compared to something like pinball FX.
lol really? It's the complete opposite and most people would agree. Pinball FX is an arcade game on the xbox/Epic/iOS etc with some cartoony tables. Visual pinball is a simulator. It is way more realistic, especially the physics, and is simply much more accurate. It feels like real pinball.
The way you take your time to explain the details is what I love the most about your videos 😍😍❤️ ! Become a YT god > Promo-SM !!
Thank you.
