Love this analysis. I watched this when it came out and it disturbed me so much that the message went over my head.

Good video. I particularly like your focus on ‘the love that goes unnoticed’. That is something I had overlooked.
I found the movie very powerful and interpreted it more as a ‘stripped away’ version of our current state of affairs than an alternative dystopian society. I feel that much of the same stigmas & pressures exist today, but we hide them in narrative and media. I think we all lie to each other and to ourselves because the alternative is too scary.
Just found your channel, looking forward to watching more.

I feel like the banishing of bisexuality was Def because it left people with the accidental option of finding a best friend instead of a lover and the society they're in can't handle the idea of those being of equal value from a social standpoint so its banned so no one has to deal with realizing friends can fulfill you in almost the same ways as a relationship. Just felt the need to throw it out there as a theory

Also, wondering if you’ll do an essay for “map of tiny perfect things” if not that’s cool too, I’m positive your next video will be just as excellent as your previous five, (not including this one (since it’s still playing).) thank you.

Thank you! I watched other “explained” videos but I still had a lot of questions. But after seeing yours it all made sense to me. Will check out your other videos now - keep up the good work ❤

I think David sacrificed his sight not because he thinks whether they would be compatible or not, but rather they would be easily detected by the city police, if they aren't compatible by physical traits alone.

that's interesting. It would be like in society when ppl judge a couple if one of them is fit and the other isn't. There's an standard on who should ppl date depending on their appeareance.

Someone once told me that they related to Colin Farells character and said his character “described him to a T”. I am slightly confused yet somewhat understanding of what he means but would love another’s thoughts on this.
So what I would like to know is what would you describe Colin Farrells character as? If you don’t mind me asking

Well I would say Colin's character is quite timid but also very blunt (which honestly would be the way Lanthimos writes all of his characters). He keeps to himself and usually does things for his own benefit rather than others' (but again we should consider the circumstances that he and other characters currently live in).
In summary, I agree with you as I'm also a bit confused because most of the characteristics are pretty much the same to me. Like, all characters don't ACT so differently to each other (which is why a lot of people don't like Lanthimos' direction of actors).

I think it might mean they feel trapped by social norms and unable to express themselves how they want

Lanthimos doesn't have the directorial energy to stir this thick allegorical stew. lacking any of the usual action-thriller movie skills, his deadpan style may be the only one available to him.
