One thing I find *amazing* ib these Old World battle reports that have started to show up: The players seem to never stop smiling! 😁 So good to have the game back
Nostalgia at its finest kicking in 😆
Honestly still smiling since the report haha
I'm glad you said this. I have no nostalgia for the old world as I've only been in the hobby for a few years.... But the fact everyone seems to be genuinely having great fun is making me feel like I need to play this 😂
@@deepfriedjonny90 It's part nostalgia, part seeing a game on its 9th iteration. Hard to tell without having played it yet myself, but it does look like a fun game to play with or without nostalgia goggles 😁
Yeah, because they aren't oaying for new armies at today's prices.
I'd be Happy too.
Nice report, and good to see something other than Bretts vs TK!
Couple of things, you weren't counting Close Order bonus for combat res (though most of the time it didn't matter), push back from 2 units is diagonal, but your angle stays the same, and no need to roll for "pursuing" into Fall Back in Good Order.
It's much easier to remember stuff when you are watching than playing!
Magic in the front arc as well!
Yer it’s a totally different experience playing with a camera in your hand as you have to produce entertaining content, talk all the time, think what’s coming next etc While also making sure the shots are good and you interact with your opponent so the viewer feels like they’re getting the same experience! Love doing it though haha
May we take ward save after armor save? or is it only the highest of the 2?
@@sn_dc
@@anderslundtoft2315 you can take both! 🙂
I'm confused about the "...no need to roll for 'pursuing' into Fall Back in Good Order." Why wouldn't you roll for that? I'm aware you don't need to roll for the Give Ground situation. page 156 says that we need to pursue and tells you how to roll the pursuit for Fall Back in Good Order.
Brings tears to my eyes seeing WFB back no matter what time frame
So nice to see isn’t it
Totally agree, it’s childhood nostalgia but reborn! I’m in my element
I happy to see my favorite game again.I'm fifty. And now I'm blowing up the dust from my four FB armies after ten years of calm and looking at shops for some new bottles of paint - the old ones dried alredy)))

MY BOYS
Diehard Beastmen fan here, Ive been looking everywhere for a Battle report in the Old World featuring my favourite goats! Keep up the great content!
Glad you hear buddybeastman
I'm super excited to play Beastmen now. I'm sad they didn't get Marks besides divided but they got enough awesome flavorful rules to make up for it.
Yer I agree and sadly no god-aligned Bestigors anymore but still plenty of flavour as you say 😊
Yeah sad they missed that
My assumption would be in the Arcane Journal that will be an option!
@johnbailey8567 would suspect so. Afterall so.e of those models still exist i guess. We didnt wait so long to get official tzanngors just to never use em lol
@@sn_dc Agreed; my Pestigor used to march alongside Morghur (but not too close) and cause all sorts of mayhem.
First time to the channel, yall were the first group I saw to play my favs the high elves.
Well done lads and I very much enjoy the narrated intro. It was a very nice touch!
Welcome aboard!
Thanks so much! More High Elf reports coming in the future for sure - I have a bigger High Elf force just need to get it finished and off the pile of shame 😅
How exciting to see Beastmen!!! Instead of Bretonnians vs Tomb Kings! Amazing Battle report and I haven't even started it :p
Hope you enjoy it!
It was great
More to come John!
That's the main reason I came here!
god! not only has old worlds returned, but an edition where the meta wasnt 2 MASSIVE units and 1 tiny unit of core
Good times
I know it‘s nice to have armies back on the table and not 1-2 big bricks of units haha
i've no idea what happened to change the meta, but god damn im glad armies are armies again
@@sn_dc
Your battle report pacing, vibes, editing etc are all excellent. It's understandable that you get a few things wrong with a new game, don't beat yourself up; that will come with time. The important stuff is already here.
Thanks boss
Appreciate the kind words! ❤And yer was conscious of making sure the rules were correct, but knowing it’ll be hard not to miss something!
So many years of waiting and it’s finally here, good luck guys
You legend! Luv ya
Hope your enjoy bro!! We’ve got it back!
@@sn_dc It was awesome, although I was crying when you said Phoenix guard still have fear and you forgot!
Old World Hype!
Waiting for Orcs, or possibly Dwarfs, to get their release.
Got both of those lined up for reports! 😊
@@sn_dc - Nice! Looking forward to it!
Great choices
WAAAAAAGH!!!!!!
Nice battle report with painted armies! One thing though, the Phoenix Guards cause Fear themselves, so they would have been immune to the Minotaur Fear, and would not have needed to test to make the charge.
The Phoenix Guard were mascaraed. Not by the Minotaurs, by GW themselves lol.
@@borgCube100
As a High Elf player, they were probably a little much.
At least this way I don’t have to be self policing about playing them.
@@AuthorSurrogate 4+ ward? MAYBE too much - armour saves were crap in 8th edition, and they are still only toughness 3. They were one of the best units, but SOMEONE had to have them.
I agree tho, nerf away. But a 6+ ward against non-magical attacks seems a little too nerfy, given their mediocre offensive capabilities (again, puny Elves lol) and T3 - they just seem too over priced to be used when you have I7, WS9 S6 magical attacking Killing Blow Swordmasters or White-Lions that just melt armour and both are cheaper.
I'm just venting - their fear mixed with random stuff could make them good so we just have to wait and see.
@@borgCube100 come play Wood Elves with light/zero armour
@@gemmell761 Aye but that faction is DESIGNED around that. The HE's have fighty troops, meant to be stuck in and - perhaps - the "greatest martial force" in the world.

Wonderfull to see High Elves! I really appreciate you guys explaining in good order whats going on. Was really helpfull with the release of 40k 10th edition, and now looking forward to more of these battle reports.
Glad it was helpful!
Commenting for the algorithm, I love seeing this Old World content, I pray this game lasts a good long while.
Enjoy my friend
I hope DC, you have the big names to show in future for the High Elves. Tyrion, Imrik, Teclis, Alarielle, Alith Anar or Eltharion would be super cool to see as I play them a lot in Total War
Ah well on the book they aren’t there! I assume named characters will arrive in the High Elf Arcane Journal 😊
♥️
Due to the timeline I wouldn’t think those characters (bar alith) would be getting rules. Tyrion and Teclis were still children in their father’s villa, Allarielles mother was still everqueen.
@@robnixon8832 We would finally get the Phoenix King. Yep, this is pre Finuvial Plain, so no powerful Tyrion and Teclis and just 120 year old kids, as you write.
@@robnixon8832 They are still good warriors by that point (Tyrion and Teclis). It isn't until the Finnuvial Plain that they get their special gear. They are more "up and coming" than "species saving champions". Eltharion might be older - elves and their ages, same with Imrick. Allariel for sure wouldn't be the Everqueen unless with have a change to lore.
Are you allowed to measure distance before a charge now?
PS LOVE the Battle Report. Love to see Wood Elves next. =)
Hey yes you can! It’s like 8th edition in that way. And wood Elves we hope to have on soon!
Correct!
@@sn_dc I didn't get to play that much 8th edition. Only a few games here and there.
Good Battle, the Beastmen are absolutely exquisite and your High Elves are very nice DC, though i think like me you are hoping we get access to some of the nicer old kits to bolster the ranks of some of your smaller units. I thought you were in real trouble DC (well, you were) but you managed to do pretty well in the end, Dragons/Monstrous Mounts look absolutely devastating, Chaos Lords will be a force to be reckoned with, However big blocks of Resilient Infantry still look pretty dominant.
Thanks for the kind words! ❤ And I totally agree with what you said, fingers crossed we get some of the older kits! My High Elves need a boost! Haha
Glad you enjoyed it Champ
Spearmen and archers would be top of my wish list. No more ham handed elves please!
Where did you guys get these awesome movement trays with base expanders? I checked elementgames but couldn't find them ? Great battle report!
Check el gante elegante
Love to see a dragon do something. My dragon in KoW did nothing most of the time, so it's fun seeing what they could do!
They are very strong
I really do miss my Dark Elves 😢
Yeah such a cool Army!
Get them back Garsty! Very cool army
You can still play them! You don’t even have to buy the army book!
Don’t just play them.
Bet your opponents don’t!
Loving this enthusiasm for the old world, getting me so hyped, brilliant batrep.
I have mentally planned: Rebasing/repainting Empire Army, Rebasing/repainting Chaos Warriors/ new goblin army 3D printed / new vampire army with AOS models.
I also have absolutely 0 hobby time to do it 😂
😂 glad you enjoyed the game! I’m sure that if you plan it well all can be achieved
Honestly, I’m drowning in the amount of time I need to get more armies ready for reports etc I need another me to paint more! 😅
This was a really excellent battle report, love you giving quick simple rules explanations on the fly and not beinf afraid to replay certain moves and explain your mistakes. Brilliant. Also thoroughly enjoyed seeing elves show up with all their best units and get absolutely rocked by the cruel twists of fate and dodgy dice haha
Much appreciated!
Can't wait to launch the Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhh again in the old world.
Waaaaaghhh
I know we have an Orcs & Goblins game coming up! 😊
@@sn_dc Amazing I hope you can get Ghaz back on the channel and also do some 40K orks again
the forced breaking when losing your leadership test in combat against an enemy more than double your unit strength is amazing, such a good rule to decrease the power of chaff. Such a pity they decided to still give the beastmen chariot 3 different attack profiles (gor, ungor and tuskgor) to resolve ... so unneccesary and a waste of time.
I love the new losing combat changes, it creates more flavour than the simple - you lose and get run down!
When you declare charges and responses, you do it for all units and then roll dice. So that you cant change reaction based on charge roll for other units etc.
This is true, if we did it otherwise probably just not thinking while recording etc
This was excellent. One thing to point out is that you declare all charges then opponent can react.
Warbows are higher strenght than Peacebows and Longbows have more range than Widebows. Obviously...
Did not know that! Very cool, thanks 😊
Awesome report guys ! The odds of that 6*6*6*6*6 were almost 1/8000 ^^
Hahah crazy
Practically immortal, centuries trained soldiers failing 90% of their dice rolls. That takes me back...
No matter how immortal, the dice gods decide our fate 😂
Glad to see a batrep without Tomb Kings or Brets, subscribing for more!
Awesome to hear
Thanks! And yer we have a bunch of armies so more to come
for panic, it has to be MORE than 25%.
Also, you move an extra d3 with Swift Stride, not D6.
Not true! Swiftstride increases your max charge range by 3" and you MAY add a d6 to charge/flee.
@@Na_bro_leon may add a D3 from what MWG explained.
@@Stonehorn I've seen the page from other youtubers. It's d6!
@@Na_bro_leoncorrect! It’s 3” increase and D6
Hey buddy, it’s not like this it’s 3” and an extra d6. Hope you enjoyed the game
I'm still suprised the Beastmen made it into supported armies for ToW rather than Skaven or Vampire Counts
Yeah same as we think it’s a weird one
@@SNBattleReportsperhaps it's all about what is in production miniatures wise? They have quiet a bit available for Beastmen.
Excellent battle report. Please make more 😅
More is coming!! I’m a fantasy fanatic so getting all my armies ready for content 😊

Rules question (don't have the book yet) about maximizing in close combat: In the first High elf charge (the one that ended up not happening because of fear), first the chariot was moved, then the infantry. Both were then later shoved around to the side so that the maximum number of infantry models were in contact, to the point were the chariot wasn't even maximized anymore.
I have seen similar things done in older editions, but I don't think that was ever actually in the rules. You had to maximize the potential numbers of models *during your charge move*, using your pivot but otherwise move the most direct route. You could also touch a corner and pivot into the enemy. If you ended up having another unit in the way (like the chariot) or just didn't have the charge range or the wrong angle and had some models hanging over the sides unable to fight, that was something you had to live with. Why does that matter? Because a) that way both the order in which you do your charges and your precise unit placement are important and b) when you push around units to where they are not supposed to go, you can push them out of command and other ranges they should be in. EDIT: Don't all models in the front ranks get to fight anyway in Old World? That would make shoving them around superfluous, but still screw with things like command range etc
So my question is: Do the rules in Old World say that you have to use your actual charge move (plus pivot) to try and get as many models into combat as you can, or do they say you just have to touch the enemy unit and then get to push them up? I'd be fine either way, I'm just curious what the "official" rule for that is. And it does make a difference in game.
I think they did it wrong, especially since in the Old World the full front rank gets to attack, if some are not in base to base they get to do max 1 supporting attack, but anyway due to that there’s less need to wrangle the units like that. You move one charging unit at a time, maximize it, then move the next and maximize on what's left.
I don't have the rules, but based on other battle reports and rules reviews I think it works like it used to in 6th at least, I'm not familiar with 8th. I might be wrong, maybe you maximize all the units after moving charges, but I doubt it.
@@Ethnarches That's how I would expect that to work. But who knows, it might have found its way into the rules? Well, not much longer and we can look that up ourselves 😁
@@MrClassicor The Old World battle report on Tabletop Tactics clearly state that the rules say you must get as many models into contact. From what I could gather there's no pile in/consolidation movement like in 40k. If you charge you must get as many models into base contact as possible.
@@Green_Phos Yes, with your charge move, not after the fact, right? As many models as you can move in with your movement range. Pushing them in after would be a kind of pile in move, which doesn't exist; I had not considered that. Thank you 🙂
@@MrClassicor As they played it, yes, part of the charge move.
Excellent report! I am starting High Elves so it was great to see them in action.

Again the same feil: Once the active player has declared all of their charges, the inactive player declares a ‘charge reaction’ for each of the charge targets.

Great job on the battle report, I really like your style of presenting - you managed to get the pacing just right.
And I really like how you filmed the movement, with blocks moving around the camera angle from the side works great to show whats going on.
Guess I need to dig some boxes out of the basement
Awesome to hear
Pretty sure when you fall back or give ground, you move directly backward, not at an angle. When the chariot gave ground (in turn 3?) from the dragon princes, if it had gone straight back instead of at an angle like the beastman player moved it, it would have moved off the edge of the map and been destroyed.
Hey! Which bit of the game was that? And if you give ground you can’t be within 1” of an enemy unit so you have to go at an angle in some cases (like being flanked) but could be wrong though let me know what page number in the book you saw it in and I’ll check! 😊
@@sn_dc 56:00 mark. Page 155 of the new rulebook (looking on another channel's preview), it uses the words "2" directly away from the enemy unit(s)", and "it must move as directly as possible from all of the enemy units engaging it", and "directly away from a single enemy unit". It then indicates how and when you are to move at an angle (if you have enemies on a front and a flank as an example), but that seems to be the only way you're allowed to change any sort of direction on a fall back, give ground or flee.
It means it's real important to be careful with your facing if you're anywhere near a board edge in this new Fantasy since you could be pushed back off the board.
I'm kinda loving the variable severity of losing a combat instead of always break and flee 2d6" since it means there's a bit of a flow back and forth to a fight and a bit more time to maneuver in some reinforcements, but yeah, we're all going to have to remember that losing a couple rounds of combat could still get someone pushed off the board if they're close to the edge. Adds in some calculated risks aspect of "do I angle so I can charge deep into their line from the side, or do I play it safe in case I get charged but I'll have less in my front arc to charge?". :)
Time to pull out my old Bretonnians and Dark Elves
Yessss do it!! What you got?
Awesome! Enjoy the nostalgia
I have about 4000 points if Bretonnians and about 6000 points of Dark Elves, led by mommy dearest and her grumpy son.
@@malekiththeeternityking5433 too bad your dark elves won't receives any support from GW beside the game release free rules ^^
Great report ! Thanks ! I have few questions though. Dragon Princes charge - why horses didnt attack? why no outnumber bonus for DP? Wouldnt it be better not to pursue the chariot with DP after 2nd round of combat, so you can charge in your turn just to get +2 S lance bonus?
I reckon those Bestigors could have snatched the win, dragon be damned.
Yeah for sure
Btw you declare first all your charges and then the enemy declares all their reactions. Not one at a time. Likely doesn't matter in this game but just clarifying for the future, so declare order doesn't matter like in 8th edition.
Yer it’s likely we forgot and just rolled with it as we filmed - it’s a totally different ball game with a camera in your hand 😅

@@sn_dc I have to agree with that DC, magic feels very flat it's just a game of 2D6, no real tactics to it like the older versions, trying to balance risk/reward by adding extra dice made it a gambe and gave the feel that magic was a powerful tool but fickle and more than capable of turning your level 1 caster inside out for his cheek at trying to cast on 4D6

I think with one rank fighting, taking 30 bestigor only 5 wide will be bad in old world.
Interesting point! And yer I think rank sizes will be a thing people will find that sweet spot for
Aren't they also in the marching order if they are deeper than they are wide?
You missed a lot of rules that were pretty important to the high elves. It's a battle report of a system that's not out yet though so that's just fine. Thanks for the video!
What were all the Rules buddy. Seems we missed a lot by the comment. Would be great to know thanks 😊
@@SNBattleReports I've been really looking hard at High Elves so I've been staring at blurry pictures of stat lines since Saturday. You went back corrected most stuff every one of them like the Fear on the Phoenix Guard, but for example the Phoenix Guard are also Veterans so they get to re-roll failed leadership tests as well so they had a reroll for that test if they hadn't even had to make it in the first place.
Elven Reflexes looks like it was forgotten a few times. Minor rule but affected at least one combat I saw.
There's a few others I can think of. Some are the usual just playing with my friend nitpicks about the order of things that no on actually cares about.
Formations have some special rules for combat resolution. Most of the high elf units you had are in Close Order, as are some of the Beastman herds, which while in 'Combat Order' (wider than deep or square formation) they get +1 to combat resolution. Gor herds and Ungor herds are listed as being in Open Order so that'd have been some swing in some of the combats.
Light and Heavy chariots appear to have rules just for being what they are. Heavy Chariots have scything wheels which give them -2 AP on their impact hits which isn't good for Swordmasters at all.
Dragon Princes have Swiftstride which applies to Pursuit rolls. So something that moved 3" away can't really can't fail to be caught. Plus on a pursuit move you do count as charging. Not on a follow up, but on a pursuit you do so those lances would have been good again.
Love a good old fashion battle. Armies look great. Damn though, paint jobs are great but those core Elf spearmen/archers and the bolt thrower are really dodgy miniatures now. I hope GW aren’t stupid enough to re-release them. The Tomb Kings launch box was literally 1998-2002 tat being sold to us… and the 2003 Bretonnians are on thin ice...
Good fun but why go out in battle with your chariots alone 😮
They work much better I belive in support, charging in together with another unit 😊
Early days I guess! Trying stuff out
By the way ! Lion Chariot of Chrace is far better especially with a character riding it. It then get highest toughness so +1 and combined wounds 😮
And being heavy chariots the impact is str 1d6+1 AND those is -2 Ap due to Schyted wheels as well.
Good fun so keep en coming 😊 🎉🎉🎉
Hope you can display the Dark elves!😊
I noticed the Headsmen axe data card - does anyone know where to get them?
Wouldn't the Cygor reduce the scattering of his rock by his ballistic skill? In Turn 1 he threw his rock at the Spearmen and he could see them, thus he should modify the scatter distance by his BS. You don't modify it if you fire indirect and can't see the target.
Great game guys! 👍🏻
Loved seeing your happiness and enthusiasm! 🙂🙂

@@SNBattleReports ❤️❤️🙌🏻
Swordmasters have always been glass cannons, very easy to kill off with certain shooting because their armor is garbage. If you let them choose their engagements though and they get the charge off they wreck face. It's because of this I find, they never see the kind of action they excel at. They always get crushed early game. It's a shame, because they are a real cool unit, they just have very glaring exploitable weaknesses.
I haven't finish to watching the report, but in turn 2, dragon princes' horses haven't attacked to the tuskgor chariot. The chages between las 3 fantasy editions and old word are quiet interesting

Question: Will Pardo only use Loyalist Legions in this game too? 😆
He would for sure try!!
It would be bretonians and only bretonians
I could be wrong ,but i think the bolt thrower shot doesnt stop with a failed penetration in the new rules .

Would be more interesting if HE went full herohammer and see if the game works to play that way or if it's broken like Herohammer. More cavs with lots of heros in it just smashing into the enemy that never is allowed to hit back.

I cant wait for orks and gobbos, squig herders and fanatics :D
Orks coming Monday!
I looove the Beastmen Army !
♥️
Thanks very much! ❤
56:00 Could have restrained so that you could charge on your next turn.
Thanks still getting to grips with all the rules
Yer that’s a great shout, the lances would have helped in that scenario - but honestly I thought they would have put the work in already and finished the chariot! Haha
Where did you get the bases with the lines to show the individual bases? All I have seen is ones that adapt 20mm to 25mm, but don't show where the individual bases start and end.
Check out Customeeple or Elgante

Thanks for sharing this insight into the new version. I can't see anything here to tempt me away from 7th Edition. Nice to be able to buy the figures again though.
My pleasure!
Interesting! What made you land on 7th as your edition?
@@sn_dc Well the step-forward rule ruined cavalry - no shock any more. Also, formed units marching through terrain made skirmishers useless. So 8th was just ahout huge infantry blocks - not my style of game.
Correction: there's only one big blue book and thats the battlefleet gothic rulebook
Beastmen! That takes me back.. 🎉
Yer it was so much fun!
So so cool
I still have nightmares about a regular player who would run the banner of the world dragon in every list.
Haha so good
Old World > AoS ALL DAY EVERY DAY
Fair enough! Beautiful models 💕
Absolutely loving the Old World :D Please keep doing more of these!
More to come!
More will come for sure!! ❤
I love that in the game review, you didnt mention the Dragon basically solo winning the game XD? Dragons seem really strong with their counter, cannons, being gone.
😂
Well! I’d say it was also those unbreakable spearmen unit helped hold the centre and those Bestigors from eating most of my other units (and getting him points) but I agree the Dragon was super strong! I didn’t know how strong though haha 😅
@@sn_dc i mean they helped for sure, but the dragon swinging the lost flank and killing the Cygor was what ended the game. he killed.like 500 points I think? I mean holding the center is nice but it doesn't directly score you points.
Do Phoenix Guard not have Immune to Psychology anymore?
You forgot the horses attack on the dragon prince’s
Yea we did! Was mentioned
First time viewer. Great battle report! There is definitely grace for the minor rule mistakes. Will definitely be watching more old world from you guys. Thanks for the vid.
Welcome aboard!
Great to see Fantasy back on the menu. It’s going to be interesting to see where unit sizes settle down to over time 🤔
Agreed! I think that we’re going to see maybe more than one caster in a lot of lists perhaps? And I don’t think huge bricks of units as the rank bonus are capped! Unless they cause fear then bigger units will help
Another thing I noticed. The Bestigors should not have received the rank bonus during their first few fights. Due to having more depth than width, they were in marching order and not in Close Order. The same happened for the Gors for their first rounds. The Ungors were also set up that way but lost enough models to not be penalized for it in combat.
Yeah we missed a few things on our first game thanks for pointing them out
Charges aren’t you supposed to declare all then roll all?
They did like in V8, one at a Time
Yer it’s probably a mix of forgetting and just rolling with the camera - hard to do at the same time sometimes 😅
Great game. Bro you dont know how to play elves well😂😂😂😂
Beautiful :)
❤️❤️ thanks, oh you mean the report…
Thank you very much
@@sn_dc haha, good one!
GG! Where did you get those movement trays?
