John.......just wanted to tell you that I love the idea you came up with for the hoses you made. I'm going to be building a bituminous transfer for my hot mix asphalt plant and that was the key to wonderful detail!!! Thank you for sharing
Wow....Looks even better with the finished foliage below your display case.Great detail, its a joy to look at and watch running. Bring on more......I look forward to it!
great update.. I especially like at the end of this video you show some step by step progress shots of how the scenery all came together from the products you spoke of earlier. Very nice layout.. Your attention to detail..turned a "here it is layout" into a spectacular show piece. Excellent, excellent job.
Thanks. As I become more comfortable with my techniques I’ll make more and more “how I do” videos. I am still very much learning by trial and error. Glad you enjoyed the update.
I had to teardown my shelf layout for a move and I haven't rebuilt anything because I am not in a permanent home. To keep me busy in the hobby I just make prototype inspired freight cars. They take up a lot of time and are always unique, I feel like it's time well spent for when I have a layout in the future. I don't recommended building structures as they're the most difficult to move and pack.
Yes being in a “none permanent” location sure does limit what we can do. Although it has given me an opportunity to try different techniques to apply on my future permanent layout.
A small suggestion, add a removeable backscene across the cabinet in foam board with a continuation of what you've done behind the parking lot/yard office. It could be just held with blutack just for video or photo ops.
Hi John. I missed seeing your channel throughout 2021. Im glad this popped up again. Are you sure this is a shortline ? It looks a lot bigger on screen. I must go over the following what I have seen: The SW 1500 Yellow & slightly weathered diesel ? This my next project of interests. Is this an ATHEARN ? Please let me know i am an M.O.W. fan. Love the engine. The scenery is outstanding. The TTX parked Box Car ( Ex- R BOX) , The Domino Sugar short Hopper train would love acquire one.Tanker cars are a collectors gem for me as a modeler. The hardware A +. I Immediately recognized your layout with your display of diesels above. Your MACK TRUCK looks great. I am retuning into your channel. Remember a layout is never finished. I really got excited looking at all of I viewed. Will continue to watch. Happy model railroading. 👍✅
Thanks! I will be posting more and more as my new layout comes together. The SW1200 is a new Walthers loco. But the older one is a Proto 2000. Both run very well. Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching. -John
Awesome layout! Great update, in one of your future video could you do a in depth tour of your industries and what cars get spotted at each industry? Really digging that Mack truck! Keep the videos coming! Chad
Thanks Chad. I am have been starting to plan ops and designing a simple switch list system when I can have some simple ops sessions. In the next update I will cover each industry how how this complex connects to the “outside world”.
Fantastic little switching layout. I really hope you keep uploading videos, some switching operations would be cool to see. I'm taking alot of ideas from you so keep em coming!
Hi John, that's a lot of work for a spare bedroom in an apartment. That's a lot of putting holes in the walls which have to be patched up when you move.
Actually not at all. The shelf system I am using uses a top bracket mount and the rails hang from that. 8 holes max and then the 2 brackets for the extension shelf. It is a perfect set up without destroying the wall.
In the first 15 seconds I'm watching the 2 guys at the red truck, are they gonna move? And I'm watching the bushes for movement too. The black in the foreground I thought was a road but turned out to be the side of your shelf table. Very realistic lookin'. You sure had me fooled! Excellent job on the groundcover placement. I'm hoping to achieve the very same thing with sawdust.
Nice weathering jobs. Have you done videos on how you did that?. Asking because I just found you via the folks who did the crossbucks. They do fabulous work.
Thanks! I actually use a little bit of everything. However recently i discovered Peco Winter static grass and am very happy with the "dead" look. I have also been using alot of Martin Welberg products. They seem to sell out quickly in the states but are really nice.
Hi John, enjoy your videos. I have a small switching layout and love what you have done. Check out Mike Confilone - Allagash RR on YoyTube. He models patches of snow just like you.
Thanks for the comment Vincent. Mikes layout is a massive part of my inspiration for my current layout. He does an amazing job of making you feel as if you are actually IN his layout. I often feel as if I should be wearing a winter jacket as I railfan through the computer lol.
Outstanding different road details . The various colors and textures are dead on and achieve a realistic look.
Thank you!
I love that RSSX-905 switch engine! Great layout too!
Thanks! It was my first Loco Build. I am currently building a second one.
John you hit it out of the ball park with that Mack Truck buddy! Keep up the good work. You Shelf layout is Tops.
Thanks for the kind words Kevin! More to come!

Thank you Pete, I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching! John
The opening scene with the sound of birds is excellent.
Wow....Looks even better with the finished foliage below your display case.Great detail, its a joy to look at and watch running. Bring on more......I look forward to it!
Thanks. I have a few more videos coming soon
Looks really good. I like the Mack truck. The siding the switcher was parked on is nice.

Hi John, It looks great for what it is! Just like the rest of your layout and rolling stock! Mike
Nice Work! Your pullin it together nicely.

Thanks! Yes it had crossed my mind. The extension was an after thought and was originally going to be a thin removable section.
Great job with the staging spur area
Love the weathering on the tank cars!
Great job. Very nice layout.
Hey buddy fill in those ties with the cut off at the end of a flex track it fills the gaps between the track great job on this layout. Keep it up
Thanks. Most of them have since been filled

Love the layout, I would only suggest adding "static" ground throws for the realism factor for the turnouts
Thanks for the comment. I am definitely going to attempt those one day.

Thank you! I definitely surprised myself with the way it turned out.
You should take a screenshot of that scene and use it for the background picture instead of the airplane.
Yea I could. That’s my airplane I fly for work.
Nice weathering jobs. Have you done videos on how you did that?. Asking because I just found you via the folks who did the crossbucks. They do fabulous work.
Thanks! I haven't done any weathering videos, mainly because I am still learning and practicing. But I plan on doing one soon.
Great work!
Nice railway layout you got .Hope you like mine.
What grass and weeds did you use? It looks great!
Thanks! I actually use a little bit of everything. However recently i discovered Peco Winter static grass and am very happy with the "dead" look. I have also been using alot of Martin Welberg products. They seem to sell out quickly in the states but are really nice.
Do you live in NJ?
Cause I see NJT up there.
I grew up in Somerset NJ but now live in Florida.
Oh! Cool I live in somerset NJ, real good railfaning spots. Btw this is awesome!
