Phenomenal job on the scenery with blending it into the backdrop. I'm looking forward to see how your building turns out, the road, & home depot. - Jason
Very well done. Everything is perfect. The mock up idea is i think a must. A suggestion. With wide open scope with Google Earth and street view, it´s easy to print a building that you like. Even if there is distortions in vertical lines, the print glued to cardboard, a cereal box or whatever, will give you a visual effect if it fits or not and where. It´s far easier and cheaper to travel ideas that can be use as a guide for your modeling before invedting time and money in a similar building kit or any scratchbuilt. So more pleasant than drab plywood or styrofoam sheet. You can even get rough measurements from the sky with Earth. Even if i don´t model Mississipi, i found in a small city, 2 buildings that will fit and are plausible. Happy modeling.
Your modeling is fantastic and your layout coming along nicely. Everything blends together. Thanks for showing the actual product packages you are using. That is helpful.
John, the scenery looks awesome! I like how you have built mock ups for your structures to test the size and composition. The patched grade crossing is really cool. Having a dedicated switcher for the transload facility will give you another job for the ops session and would be very realistic that a facility of that size.-Tom
Thanks Tom! I figured the dedicated switcher is a great excuse for a RCO SW1000 with all of that fancy equipment in the roof lol looking forward to the next visit!
Amazing layout! I love how the backdrop makes the whole scene complete. Really excellent work. Also really cool how much attention you pay to all the details.
Good evening sir. You may have been away for a while but you haven't missed a beat with your modeling skills. It's not easy to see where your backdrop ands and your scenery begins, I'm loving it. Can't wait for your next update. Thanks you. Also thanks for that product information, I've been looking for something like that in N scale.
Thanks Joey! The last layout was mostly structures against the backdrop so it’s taking a lot of trial and error to get the right tones and textures to match. Having fun with it though! Thanks for watching
Outstanding depth illusion …one of the few who have a trans load facility on their layout. Great backdrop…don’t know if you are aware…the transload scene with the church is Pittsburgh North Side. The church is St Nicholas. The building in the foreground is HJ Heinz Warehouse circa late 80’s. Your tracks are in the city along Smallman St. The upper right building is the X-Pittsburgh North Catholic High School. The 1st scene with cliff side homes to the upper right is Parkview, Shaler & O’Hara Township above Etna and Sharpsburg PA. The old industrial building dates back to the turn of the century 1880’s, could be McKeesport USS Sheet & Tube or PLE RR loco shop in McKees Rocks. Your work is incredibly inspirational even in transition. The commentary is informative a well explained. Keep up the great work. Look forward to all of your past and present video’s..
I’m glad to see that you’re able to find some time to post some new videos. I always look forward to seeing your videos. You inspire me to do stuff in my train room like building kits and trying to figure out my layout and try and do a shelf layout. Thanks again for the inspiration and keep up the great work.
Thanks Steve. I really enjoy hearing that. UA-cam videos got me back into the hobby after so many years and I love hearing about others doing the same. Thanks for watching!
John, your layout is coming right along and looking really good and giving me more motivation to get going on my industrial terminal. And as I've been doing research I have found a really auger / conveyor from mini prints that you could use for transloading materials. Instead of leaving a locomomotive where your rail to road transfer area you could use a Trackmobile (if you can find one) Custom Finishing has a non working one that maybe you could use for photos or have it sitting near by the tracks waiting for it's call to service. Or even use a front end loader to move cars around, I've done it and was paid for it when I was a equiipment operator. The local tailcar shop when they started up they used a Gradall! Can't wait to see more inspirational videos coming out from you.
Thanks Bradley! I would love to have a trackmobile work this industry. The BLI model would be perfect although it is only able to move a few cars at a time
fantastic update John, I was just wondering what you were up to and then this one dropped. lol. the layout is looking amazing, I love that crossing and the approach you modeled. looks very convincing and those crossing flasher are probably the best out there. looking forward to your how to on the detection. Martin Welberg stuff has to be the best. Cheers Rob
Great update on the layout. Doing a fantastic job on the scenery as well. I was wondering where you bought your backdrop? I like how it blends in with your layout.
Wow, your rolling stock looks super realistic! Someone needs to figure a way to incorporate audio subwoofers into the model railroad hobby. A low, rumbling engine would sound so good with your beautiful layout.
Thanks! Actually there is a product from Broadway Limited that does this but you need to use their electronics in the locomotives. It adds a very realistic experience. Thanks for watching!
Wow, just wow. The scenery looks so good. If you had zoomed in a bit more at the start scene (when you were talking), and you couldn't see the fascia you would struggle to tell that was a really scene. Are you going to do an ops video anytime soon? I am really interested to see how the layout works. Also thank you for the advise on the industries on your last video, I've been on Google Earth and UA-cam to get information on industries.
Thank you! I plan on starting some ops videos shortly once the scenery is further along. This layout has so much more switching with 4 different jobs covering much more space so it will take a few videos to cover the action. Thanks for watching!
Sweet looking layout, but I was not aware it has become so plug-n-play kind of thing. When my father built his many years ago he made everything, the grass, trees, buildings, track and ballast. The only things he didn't build were the train engines and cars and switches.
I'm working on a proto-freelance industrial switching layout set in the late 70s. Where did you get your Semi Tractors/Trailers? I'll need some, but really looking for IH from the 70s. Also, I'd be interested in seeing how you did your buried in concrete track. Do you have a tutorial video? Thanks.
Thanks! Are you referring to the dry bulk trailers? I believe those are from trucks n stuff. I painted and decaled a few but there are many options. I think you can buy the trailer alone and match it up to an older model truck. I don’t have a video on the track in the concrete but all I did was cover with tinted drywall mud, sanded and cut grooves for the flanges. Best to test out in some extra track. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
They are from Alkem scale models. I’ve tried lots of fence kits but these are just the easiest and most scale looking in my opinion. He has some other neat etched metal products as well. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Jason! I am trying to focus on this area but you know how it goes with starting other stuff lol
Looking great John! Love how your scenery blends into the backdrop - very well done!
Thank you John!
HOLEY SMOKES JOHN your killing it ! Shockingly impressive great work Man.
Thank you Bernard!
Very well done.
Everything is perfect.

Thanks! That is a great idea! I have been meaning to learn more about photo editing which would make this pretty easy.
Looks fantastic John2618 really looks nice scenery work layout looks great very well done 🚂👍🏻
Thanks for watching Mike 🤙
Your modeling is fantastic and your layout coming along nicely. Everything blends together. Thanks for showing the actual product packages you are using. That is helpful.
Thank you! I love to help others as much as possible to try new things and get modeling! Thanks for watching
Dear John, very interesting how you’ve created the illusion of depth into the different vistas of the backgrounds.
Thank you! A little trial and error with different materials to make it match but was worth it. Thanks for watching

Thank you for watching! I have been excited to get into the scenery. It’s my favorite part of modeling!
This looks fantastic. Thatt opening scene drew me right in. The blending of the scenery colors, the short train, the sound. Very nice!
Thanks! I enjoy the layout at track level. Thanks for watching
Very well done scenery 👍👍
Thank you John!
You are quite the modeler and I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks for producing them.
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback!
Looking good, John! That background to foreground blend you have going on so far is quite convincing!
Thanks Joey! The last layout was mostly structures against the backdrop so it’s taking a lot of trial and error to get the right tones and textures to match. Having fun with it though! Thanks for watching
Looking fantastic!!!!!
I follow in Facebook i love your layout
Progress lol ;)

Looking real nice John. Thanks for the update
Thanks Joe!
awesome foliage. love the crossing! great tips on materials. cool vid John!
Thanks John!
Awesome job on the scenery John!
Thanks Steve!
Great scenery and that large building is going to be awesome once you finish it. Love the way it dwarfs the boxcars.
Thanks Ray. Yes I want to try and portray a large facility, much larger than what’s actually going to be modeled.
I’m glad to see that you’re able to find some time to post some new videos. I always look forward to seeing your videos. Me too! Next update they will be working. Along with the signals!
Great update! Love the background tree work!
Thank you! It is a challenge blending into the backdrop.
Great job on the scenery! I don’t know where the backdrop starts. Blends in perfectly.

Thanks Jerry! I got lucky with that trailer. It’s awesome lol
Great update on the layout. Doing a fantastic job on the scenery as well. I was wondering where you bought your backdrop? I like how it blends in with your layout.
Thanks! They are by Larc Products. He has lots of options and can print in different sizes.

oh man! lots of progress, looks awesome. My layouts been at a standstill.
Thanks Drew! I’ve been plugging away but went through some standstill periods myself. Hope to get some more done over the next few weeks.

Lol thank you!
Great layout. You got some good ideas.
Thank you Ron!

Thanks. There are so many neat products available today for scenery. It still a lot of planning and building to get good results.
Fantastic video 👍
Thank you!
Amazing work!
Thanks Rodger!
Beautiful layout
Thank you!
Nice update! Things are looking good! Where did you find the 20 ft container chassis? I'm looking for two of them.
Thanks! I actually just randomly found it at a hobby shop I was visiting Pennsylvania.
Great job bro.
Thanks!
Try putting a cable puller near the main line
i just scratch built an overhead suction unloader for my Cookie Bakery
Wow dude! Just curious.... Where did you get the back drops from?? They look awesome! Nice blending of the back drops and the scenery!
Thanks! All of the backdrops are from Larc Products

Great layout
Linda maniobra
Looks pretty good
Hermosa máquina
I agree 100% (❗) with The Train Freak.
Thanks!
what was the name of those chain link fences again? Might be better than the way im doing mine now
They are from Alkem scale models. I’ve tried lots of fence kits but these are just the easiest and most scale looking in my opinion. He has some other neat etched metal products as well. Thanks for watching!
Good video
Nice
